* 9 p.m. Sundays is why they invented the DVR. “Family Guy” was way down from its 5.2 2009 season premiere, but still did well enough to finish second in its timeslot, behind “NBC Sunday Night Football” but ahead of ratings monsters “Desperate Housewives” and “Amazing Race” (to say nothing of new episodes of “Boardwalk Empire,” “Ice Road Truckers,” “Dexter,” “Jonas LA,” “Hoarding” and “Rubicon”). * “The Simpsons” was down from its 4.3 2009 season premiere. The Cleveland Show” was way down from its 4.9 2009 series premiere, finishing 3rd place at 8:30 p.m. * “Desperate Housewives” continues to deflate, scoring lower than its 2009 season premiere and taking third place at 8 p.m. “Brothers & Sisters” was down slightly from its 3.0 2009 season premiere. * “Undercover Boss,” airing later than usual (at least out here on the West Coast), hit a personal low but still easily bested “Brothers & sisters” at 10 p.m. * “The Amazing Race,” with its melon-assualt episode, was on fire, finishing well ahead of its 2009 3.4 autumn premiere and its 2.8 2010 winter premiere. Incredibly, it was still in fourth place at the 9 p.m. hour (but in second place at 8:30). * “Boardwalk Empire” slipped predictably from its huge launch, but still finished as Sunday’s top pay-cable show and second-biggest cable show (after “The Kardashians”). With all the competition at 9 p.m. I imagine a lot of viewers will be catching up via repeats, DVR or On Demand. * “Eastbound and Down,” was up a whopping 150% over its first-season premiere. “Bored To Death” was up 2% from its first-season premiere. Which is less. * If that 0.8 for “Dexter’s” season premiere sounds a little puny, know that it was up 16% from its 2009 premiere and Showtime’s biggest telecast of 2010.

next week and i love boardwalk empire
-
I predict that from now on whenever a show has a spike in the ratings due to commercials featuring a "you don't see that every day" moment that spike will be known as a MELON! I should probably copyright that.
-
i liked fox much better when they were number 4 and tried everything...and stuck with it<p>didnt watch lonestar, but shoot, at least give it till midseason...even if trending down right now<p>next to go? outlaw
-
largest opener in networks history<P>and sunday nite's epi was some twisted shit<p>telling kids their mom is dead wearing mouse ears....sick
-
That episode was merely filler, recapping last season and laying the foundation for the rest of the season. I'm convinced things will pick up.
-
overnites don't matter, true rating # need to include on demand, dvr and i-tunes counts
-
You can have "Melon," but I just copyrighted "FaceMelon."

Herc - no mention of Quick-Draw McFox and Lone Star?
by AKA_Gern_Blanston
No mention of Fox cancelling Lone Star after two eps?
-
i leave a post about lonestar and just a few posts later there are two more, by two different people
-
The kids acting and the first 35 minutes were some of the worst in the shows history. I was finally rid of Julie Benz and thought the show would benefit from new Showrunners but if the first episode was any indication this show is running on fumes. Wise Up Dexter! I don't wana have to give you the "Weeds" treatment but your leaving me with few options
-
I THOUGHT DEXTER WAS GONNA BE LET OUT OF THE CAGE AND GO BUCK NUTS FOLLOWING RITA'S DEATH, BUT HE SEEMS CALMER AND BORING. DEXTER NEEDS TO KILL QUINN THIS SEASON.
-
Take a look at this guys face, it's different somehow. Either he's lost weight or had surgery cause it looks fucked in HD. I can smell his smokey breath thru the fucking TV. Discuss..
-
Two of the best shows on TV hands down.
-
first episode seemed flat. but it had some high points. as someone said earlier, was a filler episode really.
-
I don't understand people who think Dexter would be "let out of his cage". He's an emotionless psycho. There is no cage.<br /><br />This season looks like it's going to be a real game changer. Investigating Rita's death is going to HAVE to lead someone to ask who is Kyle Butler? Does Dexter even really have an alibi for the time of the murder?<br /><br />Oh, and I agree with ndally that Quinn has lost weight or something. He looks very different this season for some reason.
-
He just brutally murdered an innocent asshole in the man's room.
-
I don't watch Dexter, but I thought the Family Guy episode as a murder mystery was pretty tight. I am not saying it was funny, but the end was great.
-
It was silly without being very funny. Still, I suppose it's hard to bring the laughs when you're doing the episode in memory of your dead mother.
-
even though all of us who do could probably fit into a closet.
-
Would someone please explain to me what's so great about Boardwalk Empire? It's not really funny. It's not really dramatic. The "historical" aspects are forced ("Oh, look, it Al Capone! And there's Lucky Luciano!") and add nothing to the story. Oh, and the guy who plays Steve Busceme's driver has zero charisma and/or can't act. (Let the flaming begin.)
-
They were showing on Sunday night. I'm surprised they're not on the listings.
-
Why was it so shocking that Dexter didn't cry? He seemed to be in a state of shock. That actually seems like very appropriate behavior for someone who walked into the house and found their wife dead in a tub or blood. So why was everyone so skeptical? Seems like bad writing to me. Also, the writers need to make up their minds, is Dexter a sociopath or is he a nice guy who just likes to kill people? Because if it's the latter then that is just stupid.
-
Love it!

That 2nd season of Boredcock Empire ain't looking too smart now
by torontoxic
4.5 million people DIDN'T tune in again? <P> Wow. HBO can't fail any harder.
-
Even though the story is kind of contrived, the characters are very good, and isn't that what its all about, the characters?
-
Having him beat that innocent guy to death is the direction this show needs to go. But there was something about Harry's comment, "that's the first human thing you've done so far," that was extremely discouraging to me. That cannot be a throw away event or this show is done. Dex just violated Harry's code and in-head Harry gives him a pat on the back???<br /> <br /> They need to start wrapping this show up and that means having Dexter step outside his code, eventually get found out, live on the run a little while and then end it with a trial or someone killing him. They've spent far too much time trying to humanize a serial killer these last few seasons. Walt from Breaking Bad has become a far more sinister character and it hasn't hurt that show's success.<br /> <br /> The Dexter writers seem afraid to take chances. Rita's death was a nice departure from that, so I still have some hope. But I swear I'm done with this show if it becomes yet another Dexter befriends a sociopath storyline. This show needs an end date and an arc. It could probably use some new characters as Batista and LaGuerta bring the show to a crawl every time they're on screen.
-
a very, very boring episode with few laughs and nothing to say except "we're getting rid of some baggage". And now where are we going to hear Nicole Sullivan mock the chosen people? Yet, YET! The ratings went up in the second half-hour, as millions of voices suddenly tuned in to American Dad and were suddenly silenced... by another boring Family Guy. That's how FG went out too, an overly-long, under-funny season finale.
-
Why does everyone keep saying it's great? Please tell me what it is you actually like about it? Was I wrong to quit after the first two episodes? Because they were really, really bad and I can't imagine what could have changed so much.
-
Yeah, that was probably the worst ep ever. Why did they think it needed to be an hour long?
-
will remain dead. It's a cartoon. Episode ends, reset. Maybe I'm wrong but I think the next time they do the news Diane Simmons will be anchoring it.
-
I like the characters. The character development has been interesting. I want to see what happens to them. The underlying plot is kind of contrived, the childhood friends who are now running some sort of global conspiracy seems kind of stupid, but that's not really what the story is about. It's about trust and paranoia and how the characters respond.
-
But, I'm always watching it on On Demand. I hope those viewings are taken into account as far as a possible renewal for Season Two. And how many episodes are there? 10? 12? The plotlines seem to be merging....
-
I can understand dumping it after the first two episodes, but it has gotten better as the season has progressed, and to reiterate what others have said, it's clearly a character-driven piece, not a plot driven one.<p><p>I also like the way it's shot, which does a good job of setting up the atmosphere of claustrophobia and paranoia, even when they're out in the wide open spaces of NYC.<p><p>AMC made a smart decision to pair it with Mad Men, because they share similarities. Neither one charms at first glance. But that's not to say they're of the same caliber; the flaws are evident, but the promise is there if it is given a chance to develop beyond the first 13.
-
i mean if he finds out dex is the man formerly known as the bay harbour butcher things could get ugly
