Deadline Hollywood reports that “GoodFellas” screenwriter Nicholas Pileggi is pitching a TV show based on the Pileggi book adapted into Martin Scorsese’s 1990 mob classic.
Whether it’s headed for broadcast (like “Line of Fire”), basic cable (like “Sons of Anarchy”) or pay cable (like “The Sopranos”) is still up in the air. There’s not even a studio attached yet, let alone a channel.
Pileggi's 1986 book was titled "Wiseguy," but the movie got a title change to avoid confusion with Stephen Cannell's CBS 1987-1990 TV series (to say nothing of Brian DePalma's 1986 Joe Piscopo comedy "Wise Guys").
The Scorsese-directed pilot for “Boardwalk Empire” was the highest-rated HBO premiere in more than six years.
