Check Out This Blog From The Manchester Shoot Of CAPTAIN AMERICA!! Will Live Video Of Filming Be Captured??

Published at:  Sep 23, 2010 9:44:42 PM CDT

Merrick here...

The fine folks over in Manchester have set-up a nice blog to chronicle the filming of Joe Johnston's CAPTAIN AMERICA movie; Manchester is standing in for 1940s Brooklyn for the shoot.

The blog contains quite a few images, a video walk through of the set, and even has a window indicating a "live stream of filming." The stream is 'Off Air' as of this posting, but it might be fun to keep checking back to see what happens there.

The set walkthrough footage can also be seen via the embed below. While the walkthrough is embedded on the Manchester blog, it originated at hobbsy.com.

Click either of the sample images below to see other pics, the vids mentioned above, and more.

Can't wait to see this on-screen - Johnston's visual style oughta make this look pretty sweet.

... I dunno. Looks awfully jingoistic. Thought Johnston was staying away from the 'America's Awesome!' stuff?

Based on how he made the Rocketeer look,

I have no doubt he will capture the right look and feel for the film.

when are you going to be getting us a picture of the Red Skull though?

Johnston only made one great film and that was The Rocketeer many many moons ago!Since then his movies have been just passable. I will say one thing though, it looks like he's going back to his Rocketeer style in this!

Pictures like that existed at the time. Their being in the film isn't an endorsement. It just helps the film establish itself as authentic.

Look at recent projects like HBO's "The Pacific," which was filled with period set dressing and language (dirty Japs, slopes, etc.). Was authentic to the time, but the work as a whole was thoughtful and poignant.

    by erykthedead

You know dude, if your gonna point to a movies box office as how successful it was at least, you know, have a clue.

Iron Man made 318 domestic 266 foreign

Iron Man 2 made 312 (and could still earn more) domestic and 309 overseas or you know more the the first one.

Pretty good performance for a sequel. Lets face it Dark Knight was kinda of a fluke, Batman Begins only made 205 and 167. No one expected that kind of a movie, not fun mind you, but good so it crossed over. I doubt he can deliver it again. (Though I wasn't thrilled with Inception then I saw it so I'm just gonna shut the hell up about Nolan). Anyway as franchises Nolan's Batman leads the box office by only about 100 million. That's less the one studio executive saying "You know I liked the nipples on the Bat Suit" away.

Dale street to be precise. It's actually not that surprising as the pre-war buildings in that area are very similar to those in parts of NYC. New York scenes for the Alfie remake were also shot there.

    by barron34

But we need to see some official pics, especially of Cap in costume, and the Red Skull.****Has anyone heard any news on Nolan's third Batman film? I feel that he should use the Riddler and Catwoman as villains, and maybe have the Joker do a cameo bit in Arkham. Joaquin Phoenix would be a worthy Joker, I think (see his performance in GLADIATOR. Quite creepy). Heath Ledger's work was great, but that should not preclude other actors playing the Joker. Also, I think Jude Law would make a great Riddler. Look at his role as the sociopathic killer in THE ROAD TO PERDITION. That character could be a template for a sociopathic Riddler obsessed with puzzles, riddles, crime, etc. As far as Catwoman, there are a lot of good actresses out there who could fill the role: Angelina Jolie, Rachel Weisz, etc. Anybody else have any casting ideas?

I'm a huge Nolan fan, but there's not one ounce of sex in any of his movies, and without sex appeal, what would be the angle on Catwoman? Another postmodern deconstruction, maybe? I don't know if I like the idea of that.

I'd love to know where this 'rock pub' is you went to. If you go to some chavvy, pound a pint shithole on the high street that calls itself a rockpub then you have yourself to blame. Manchester is a modern cosmopolitan city, arguably only second to parts of London for what's on offer. To begin with there's fantastic music venues, some of the best sports facilities in the country, great arthouse cinema & galleries, and a thriving art & music culture. I suspect those slagging the place off have either never been and base their opinion on what they see on Coronation St or have visited once from middle class suburbia down south and never scratched the surface beyond the High Street and MacDonalds.
