The Ward was ok. The Butcher, The Chef & The Swordsman was hands down the best thing at MM in an otherwise less than stellar year

No idea when this is coming to my town (Nashville, TNn thanks) but being a HUGE Carpenter fan (I even liked Ghosts of Mars, but cannot abide the abortion Village of the Damned) I can't wait to see it.

I much prefer films like Assault on Precinct 13, Escape From New York, They Live, and Big Trouble in Little China over Halloween, In the Mouth of Madness, Christine, and Prince of Darkness. The one obvious exception is The Thing, which I think is his second best, after Precinct 13. I know he's regarded as "the master of horror" but to me he's that master of the anti-hero; Snake Plissken, Jack Crow, Nada, Napoleon Wilson, Jack Burton, etc.

Colour me interested. I really didn't like THE ROAD. The book is amazing. Lost in translation, I guess. I am generally up for a post-apocalyptic, with vamps in. But it sounds a bit like THE PASSAGE, which I am about to read.

In a world where people believe in magical pleasant places in the skies and bad places underground where people spend eternities on, the msot plausible thing is that if an apocalypse came, one of the thing that would still give hope to people would be the notion of a safe haven somewhere, anywhere. People have believed the reality of elusive or non-existent things for lesser important/dramatic reasons (must resist making joke about Brewery Trek).
The French lost 1.400.000 soldiers during the Great War, during which they won the decisive (because tremendously long, crazy bloody and demoralising) Battle of Verdun, yes, they lost 500.000 more men than the Brits, just to put it into perspective. Now, is there anyone in this forum, ignorant and prejudiced enough, to suggest that most of those brave soldiers were shot in the back?! Hope not, for your sake.

BLACK SWAN had all the buzz, but when the director of TIFF predicted that KING'S SPEECH would win I guess they listened. Booo.
