I am – Hercules!!
Some notes on tonight’s 12th season finale of CBS’ biggest summer show, “Big Brother,” which immediately follows the 21st season premiere of “Survivor”:
* If I’m not mistaken, this is only the second time CBS has utilized a two-hour “Brother” finale. The supersized nature of tonight’s event likely explains why we’ve yet to see footage of blonde, beautiful Britney Hayes’ long-ago entrance into Jury House, where she was presumably confronted by archenemy couple Rachel Reilly and Brendon Villegas.
* I’m curious to see if the jury’s still sore about evictee Matt Hoffman lying about his wife suffering a life-threatening illness (she’s actually perfectly healthy). On “Survivor” Johnny “Fairplay” Dalton lied about his grandmother dying and Russell Hantz lied about being victimized by hurricane Katrina, and nobody seemed to give a shit. (To his credit, Brendon didn’t seem to think it a big deal, even if his unpleasant showmance partner, Rachel, seemed determined to pile on.)
* I’m also keen to find out what’s doing with an early evictee and boutique manager Kristen Bitting. Riveting footage depicted Bitting’s Philadelphia “boyfriend” seething as he watched Bitting engage in marathon grope and make-out sessions with Hayden Moss, the season’s likely victor. She and Hayden were in the house together about a month, but she’s presumably been back in Philly for a month and a half while Hayden’s still cut off from the world.
* Viewers are warned not to embark on drinking games tied to the word “brigade” or Bayonne resident Enzo Palumbo ending sentences with “yo.” I expect Palumbo, who created the Brigade alliance on day two then essentially napped his way to the top, will be out the door fairly early tonight, regardless of who is crowned the final Head of Household.
* I always find myself shocked by this series’ final votes, but here’s how I see it going right now:
Rachel: HAYDEN
Brendon: HAYDEN
Enzo: HAYDEN
Kathy: LANE
Matt: LANE
Ragan: LANE
Britney: LANE
* I predict the biggest winner will be CBS. I dimly recall what when CBS teamed “Survivor” with “Big Brother” on a weekly basis during the summer of 2000, the ratings for both shows were gangbusters. Interestingly, while “Survivor’s” ratings have diminished over the ensuing decade, “Big Brother” has demonstrated steady growth.
Here’s how it did this summer:
