NBC Grounds
HEROES Movie!!

I am – Hercules!! After NBC canceled “Heroes” in May, series mastermind Tim Kring immediately set about pitching some sort of continuation -- but an Entertainment Weekly source says the network has rejected Kring’s proposed “Heroes” TV-movie. NBC also apparently did not elect to pursue “III,” a new Kring pilot script about an invasion of America during a third world war. Kring is keeping busy creating interactive content for Nokia, the world’s largest manufacturer of mobile telephones, according to a June EW story. NBC has a new superhero series created by Thomas Wheeler titled "The Cape" set to debut at midseason. Find all of EW’s story on the matter here.

    Class Example

    by puto tenax

On how a popular series can tank. Too bad NBC couldn't keep Bryan Fuller and Joef Loeb in the mix. Methinks too many writers spoiled the soup. And Kring should have had the nerve to tell the peacock I'm killing these characters off and they'll stay dead.

    by veritasses

He's a talent-less, clueless, ungrateful idiot. I'm amazed at how he managed to completely F-up that show in every way imaginable. Only someone of Kring's caliber could've created a disaster of that magnitude. It's the biggest series F-up in the history of all media.

  • Sept. 10, 2010, 9:31 a.m. CST

    by Mullah Omar

They should have pulled Kring off that show after his lame ending to Season 1. If there were justice in Hollywood, Kring would never work in TV again for failing to successfully execute a concept that should have been a winner in even slightly competent hands.

    The show died . . .

    by SkidMarkedUndies

with the Season 1 finale . . . the season boiled to a fever pitch only to putter out with the whole showdown.

They constantly showed a certain sequence of events in Peter's flashes of the future than did not jive with what we saw. And it didn't change because of Hiro fiddling with the time line or because they saved the cheerleader.

It changed because they had no loyalty to what they showed already. And what about the Irish chick in Season 2?

That poor girl's life was DESTROYED because of Peter and he never gave her a second thought!!! Cold bastard he is.

It's disturbing. Like change-your-seat disturbing, if you ever had the misfortune to sit next to him.

He has a great future ahead of him in journalism, or talk radio.
by eg4190

I don't know how Kring managed to do it but throughout all four seasons, even though everything about the show was awful (in terms of acting, special effects, storytelling, characterization, whatever)... the impression was there that if you just stuck with it, something cool was about to happen. Kring never actually made anything cool happen, which is why the show deserved its death. I applaud NBC's refusal to allow Kring to save face, because we all know he was never going to somehow redeem the property.

Anyone seen the british show Misfits?

    by Captain RawBeard

Misfits is excellent, a show about a group of teenagers doing community service who after a freak storm get special powers. Very well written, a good choice of powers, cant wait for Season 2. As for Heroes it had so much potential, they should reboot it... put it on HBO, make it darker, have a couple more Heroes who's powers are only active when on Drugs like that Artist Dude. Get Rid of all Time Travelling Story Lines unless you have planned them out properly. Plus get rid of the whole everyone is slightly related/connected through their parents, losing powers/memory cheapo bullshit.

My Idea For The Inevitable Lost Sequel

    by Crow3711

If they want to go high concept and cool on it, go meta. Have it start with someone like us, watching the series finale like 5 years later, for the 20th time, still crying. Lost Peter on the wall. Biggest fan there is. Wishes it was real. Then one night, Hurley or smokey or someone else comes, and says "you have work to do". The island is real, always has been, Darlton went there nce and left or something, add some humor where they go things wrong etc. Have the kid go to the island. Have new adventures etc. Kinda cliche I guess, but it works so well with how obsessed lost fans are. It would give us a fantastical, funny reason to watch and is a decent conceit for how to go back to the island without shitting on the real series. It's better than just, more stories on the island with a new group of castaways thr would be watered down stupid garbage. Just my two cents

But really it died at the end of season 1. I wanted a superhero battle royale....and they had a spitball fight. I is poisoning my collection.

I guess it finally dawned on them that this guy is a talentless hack who created his show by shamelessly ripping off old X-Men comics.

  • Sept. 10, 2010, 10:40 a.m. CST

    by jazz_mavericks

Heroes sucked royally from the first season finale. No one cares about a follow up to it. What people do care about, though, especially following the shit bucket that was Salvation, is a follow up to season 2 of Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles. The season two finale there had some AMAZING potential for season three, but typical Fox, fuck up a good thing.

ya know, I don't need closure with this one

    by oisin5199

I think Claire's display of her superpowers at the end of the last season was a decent way to end the show. A good callback to the first episode and her videotape. If they hadn't of shown that 'next chapter' thing, it would have been fine and no one would have asked for closure.

  • Sept. 10, 2010, 11:27 a.m. CST

Yeesh, can't give the show a 2-hour pity fuck?

    by Tall_Boy66

In some dead air time? I guarantee it'll turn in at least mildly better ratings than before. But, oddly, I really don't feel there's anything that is uber-unresolved. That "cliffhanger" of Claire revealing her powers to the world is actually better if it's nicely ambiguous. Would like to see Sylar on the telly one more time proper, but that's ok.

  • Sept. 10, 2010, 11:53 a.m. CST

    Kind of want a TV-movie

    by andrew coleman

Some of you obviously hate Heroes for it's lack of action. Most of the complaints seem to be that they didn't have enough action in it. What are you fucking twelve? No Heroes problems was they would set up story lines and then never explain them and move on. Many have brought that up... The irish girl for example. The fact that many of the flash forwards showed us things that never seemed to come true or were even focused on. Simply they out did themselves and lost where they were going. Season three towards the end had me going because the simplified everything and I think that made it better. Season 4 was getting back on track. Frankly I think they deserved one more season to let it die. NBC though is going through a patch of "If it's not a cop show or legal show it's canceled" so oh well I guess.

    What annoyed me...

    by Celicynd

What annoyed me the most, other than the fact that the seasons after 1 got progressively worse, was that they had this big opportunity to tie it into comics and such, to give it a secondary market. I was reading all the comics online they posted and actually purchased the first compilation because it actually added some decent backstory to the characters...
UNTIL Kring and company decided to say "Fuck all" to the stuff they were doing in the comics and actually did stuff to contradict it. I understand we have continuity errors, but fuck, they practically disregarded everything in the comics they were doing.

  • Sept. 10, 2010, 12:02 p.m. CST

    Oh well

    by Volstaff

It's still kind of maddening to think of the show's first season and the buzz around it, right up until they fumbled the ball with the season ender. I mean, people at the building where I worked were so into the show they planned their nights around it.Every morning after a new episode the main topic of conversation was "did you watch Heroes last night?". Then after that last episode, everybody was like "what did you think of that crappy showdown with Sylar?" Amazing how you can go from that kind of devotion to jumping the shark in one episode.

  • Sept. 10, 2010, 12:13 p.m. CST

wht pissed me off the most

    by Volstaff

About the show was nothing ever got resolved. After season 1 I figured it was a given that Sylar and Nathan were dead. When that didn't happen, dramatically it ruined everything about season 1 for me.So Nathan sacrificing himself at the end meant nothing, and I knew from then on it was going to be a comic book tv show in the worst way. Nobody will ever die, nothing will ever get truly resolved, it was just going to be one soap opera or power of the month gimick after another. I gave up on the show part way into season 3. Like someone else said, after season 1 they kept trying to make you believe that something "good" was just about to happen, but nothing ever did.

  • Sept. 10, 2010, 12:17 p.m. CST

    by ckone

Completely agree with you. I thought after season one, we would get maybe a little aftermath from the season finale, and then move on to fresh new characters throughout the run of the show, not some lame half assed exposition filled plot dropping crud. Too bad. I mean, Pete left his new girlfriend in the dastardly bad future...forever. And never looked back. Ugh.

May the blood of Heroes be offered to the execs at Fox, so that T:TSCC may be reborn from it's sacrifice! T:TSCC was an EXCELLENT show with a damn fine mythology (plus respect of the original Terminator mythology...T1+2). The crummy movie no doubt ruined everything. I couldn't agree more. it was not a perfect series, but did have respect for the subject matter. It even considered the cancer issue from T3. Brian Austin Green redeeming himself from his 90210 days. Best scene of the show is when he takes John to the park for his birthday and reveals to him he know that John Connor is actually John Reese and he watches his father and his uncle as children play ball in the park. One of the coolest moments of any recent TV show.

I agree the season 1 ender killed it

    by RETURN_of_FETT

That was pretty anti-climactic, but only because it had been built up all season long as this inevitable clash that barely happened.

A lot of people tuned in to season 2 to give it another chance. I personally thought the first couple of episodes of season 2 were pretty good. That latina was super hawt and her power was interesting. But then it started to suck. Redoing The Fly with Suresh almost word for fucking word? That is some LAZY-assed shit! And then the whole idea of turning all the bad guys into good guys and good guys into bad guys....It was a bold experiment that shot Kring in the fuckin' dick. Heroes was sliding away FAST!

Then the writer's strike neutered the season 2 finale and it was even more anti-climactic. And what the fuck is it with characters from the future having slicked back hair anyway?

They got Loeb's ass in there and totally fucking redeemed the show for season 3 doing a Civil War riff that was pretty awesome. Season 3 was almost as good as season 1 by the end.

Season 4 was not as good as season 3 and never had the impact of season 1. Nathan's death almost got there, but then they fucked that halfway through too.

Knepper was cool and Dawn Olivieri was babe-alicous, but if you're going to have a lesbo's a hint...have it with a HOT CHICK and have it pay off with some steamy lezzy kissing at least!

Heroes had plenty of ups and downs. It never really recovered from the lame season 1 ender and the particularly crappy season 2. when they got their legs back for season 3 they kind of pissed it away for season 4. It was clear they were going for a Brotherhood of Evil thing, but it never amounted to much in the end.

I would still like to see a eroes TV movie written by Loeb that could tie everything up in a nice bow with an actual big mutant war with cities crumbling in it's wake. Tell me NBC couldn't sell the shit out of that!

He sustains heavy injuries and radiation poisoning.
Sylar is indeed dead, the nuclear explosion completely disintegrating his body.
But his mind was not destroyed.
Sylars mind is now inside the body of Nathan.
Now fast forward 5 years.

The bomb did not go off at a completely safe altitude btw. A lot of radiation fallout befell NYC, as well as some significant structural damage... but it would have been devastatingly worse if it had gone off on the ground.
Nathan spends time in a coma, where the Sylar personality is able to psychically "kill" what remained of Nathan.
After awaking he is voted into office, eventually becoming the president of the USA.
Shortly after the events of NYC the US government outlaws people with powers.
The heroes from season 1 are either dead or living a life of hiding from the government.
Matt uses his powers in secret to quickly rise through the ranks of the police, eventually becoming a high ranking Homeland Security Agent.
Nikki is a stripper in Vegas and in a relationship with Peter. Her son Micah died in NYC.
Peter runs a bar in Vegas, has a large scar on his face. He has purposely depowered himself... although he still retains his original power that allows him to leech anybody elses power at will.
When Hiro came back from Japan he found his friend Ando to be dead from the events in NYC. He takes on the "Future Hiro" persona around this time, becoming a sword wielding crusader against NYC criminals. He has lost his ability to time travel.
Claire is "retired" to living a normal life.

Soon after the explosion the government begane rounding up the more obvious and dangerous evolved humans.
Matt is directly involved with this program, but he allows the non dangerous and non bad intentioned to escape into the custody of Noah Bennett and his partner Hana Gitelman.

They can then go on from there. With Bryan Fuller as the showrunner, and Tim Kring nowhere to be found.

but I walked out less than halfway through. They couldn't understand why it wasn't a series of multicolored strobe lights emanating offscreen. I haven't seen a single Hensel twin documentary film since. Those bastards.

Surely it can't be too late to bring this series back, after the flop of the movie. The show had more heart and more feeling than any other programme that has been put out by these shitty networks... and I agree... that scene with Reece and John at the park was so heartfelt it put all other shows to shame...

When Parkman kept trying to nerve himself up to ice that Russian hooker. This guy is a committed cop, constantly worried about the ethics of his mind reading and raising an orphaned girl out of compassion, and he takes time out from his whole fucking personality to wack some poor immigrant bimbo in some weird revenge fantasy? He breaks into her house and terrorises her with a gun, then in the very next episode he's raising his baby son? May Tim Kring be on fire for ten thousand years.

    I love this talkback

    by Rupee88

I enjoyed the first few episodes of Season 1 but then things started to go horribly wrong and it took most of you way too long to see it. But glad that eventually you realized that the emperor was butt naked and Heroes was shit. Kring is a millionaire and will do fine but at least his reputation is deservedly tarnished.

The Peter vs Sylar battles that never happened were the battles that happened routinely on Smallville. The Doomsday fight was shit but Clark vs Led/Zod and.Clark vs Bizarro were better than any display of.super.powers in Heroes. If.season one.of Heroes had ended with a battle of epic.proportions most of the fans would have been back. Tim Kring said he.didn't read comics. I'm barely overcoming the apathy to post a comment on this. What closure would people expect to get? It ended at as good a place as any, and frankly when it was announced it was cancelled I had the feeling of relief, like a long-suffering person had finally been taken off life support. And I thought it was the best show in Season 1.

    A frustrating show to watch

    by Dreamfasting

Three suggestions: (1) build a supervillain from its core hubris, a superhero from its core diamond (2) clearly plan out your "game balance" with the powers so that you avoid having to fight to justify why things *can't* be done (3) audiences are with you on this fantasy because you're offering a path to a better world ... don't wander *off* the path in search of conflict.

I am a Heroes fan, and would've liked a movie. I said YAY at first and then AWWWW when I saw this version of 'grounded' meant "no movie". However, NBC may be scraping for a Heroes movie after it's fall shows take a it's still possible. It's fair to guess that the haters will hate it. And I will enjoy it.

Depressing to discuss how quickly this show sunk

    by Prof. Pop-Cult

I don't know why I've read this entire TB, but it's depressing to think about how quickly HEROES crashed and burned. (I was one of its early defenders on AICN in its first season, as my posts then clearly show.)

Yet consider this: even if Kring got the greenlight to do a TV movie, I doubt he'd wrap things up tidily. I expect him to jerk with us (and NBC) by putting in some cliffhanger.

  • Sept. 11, 2010, 8:22 p.m. CST

re:Depressing to discuss how quickly the show sunk.

    by HollywoodHellraiser

Indeed it sink fast. I just didn't get the fans reaction to saying it was better than Lost!
Heroes was trying to hard to be more than a "cape" show. It wanted recognotion and emmys, but first it needed decent dialouges and likeable characters.
Hiro was a fan fave who eventually became fucking annoying and once that happened Heroes was done!
I hope any network will think twice before putting Krige in charge of any tv show ever again!

  • Sept. 11, 2010, 8:47 p.m. CST

The only interesting idea I've heard...

    by grendel824

... was where the next story had Sylar become that world's greatest hero of Superman proportions because of all his power, and have all the other characters struggling with trusting him or letting the monstrous things he'd done in the past leak out. And yeah, T:TSCC was great.

  • Sept. 11, 2010, 9:19 p.m. CST

Grendel824, if that was next, than I'm glad Heroes was cancelled

    by HollywoodHellraiser

Seriously, thats lame! And I agree T:TSCC went from ok to pretty good! Not great, but certainly worth keeping on any schedule!
Again it makes you wonder why Syfy never tries to pickup these shows? Not like it wouldn't garner the ratings that Syfy usually gets and more!

HollywoodHellraiser: Syfy doesn't pick them up due to $$$

  • Sept. 11, 2010, 10:51 p.m. CST

Well, this is more or less what I expected

    by rabidfnark

to find in this talkback: lots of Heroes hate. And, I really think that's as it should be. I tried to give the show a chance, I really did. It had a good cast, and some good acting, but the writing, the inability to commit to anything, and the "We'll never be canceled, the geeks love us." attitude (that last one might just be MY opinion) drove it straight into the fucking ground. We deserve better. Will we get it? Probably not. Such is life.

Prof. Pop-Cult - Saw that "Hayden" pic - It wan't her

    by TheKiller7

The pic where a woman is seen from the back nude is actually another actress. Besides, Hayden has a gymnast's body and the lady in the photo has a different body type. So let's keep dreaming about seeing her completely naked.

  • Sept. 11, 2010, 11:11 p.m. CST

    Never saw 4400.

    by rabidfnark

Once I realized it was there it seemed to far along for me to get any of it. How would you rate it against stuff by Whedon or Abrams (Provided, of course, that you don't violently hate their work... if you do, then just use a scale from 1 to 10). Maybe I'll Netflix it.

The nude picture of Hayden (?) in question

    by Prof. Pop-Cult

  • Sept. 12, 2010, 4:43 a.m. CST

That nude woman is Marisa Miller not Hayden Panettiere

    by TheKiller7

Marisa Miller did a pictorial for Deborah Anderson’s new coffee table book Room 23. That nude picture is part of a series of pictures taken of Miller inside of a bathroom. So no bustin' a nut to "Hayden P." for you... not until she flashes her boobs in Scream 4.

    by VonThunderballs

Heroes was the last show I watched on NBC. It was a pretty awesome show, even with the crap-tastic season 2. And now, NBC has screwed more people out of a fun show. The only reason I might even tune in is for the local news. And only because my friends are the photog's and anchors for that particular station...those poor bastards.

Can we have a Sylar Morphing Movie?

    by SilentGunman

The prologue is Sylar accidentally bumping into Adam Sandler on the street and absorbing his DNA, causing Sylar to morph into Sandler's Buffoon character at inappropriate moments. "It feels good to be a hero, Peter." (MORPH) "I had diarrhea last month. I had to shit all fuckin day!" (MORPH) "Sorry about that. I'm having trouble controlling my shapeshifting power" (MORPH) "I bet you got really hairy balls!"
