The Batmobile On The Set Of The ARTHUR Remake...
Merrick here...
We'd previously learned that a Batmobile would be making an appearance in the forthcoming ARTHUR remake. My understanding of the set-up for this is that Russell Brand's wealthy title character gets bored and decides to buy a Batmobile as a man toy (or something to that effect) - we'll see if that's how the gag actually plays out on screen.
Keeks, an AICN reader, chanced across the picture's filming while walking his dog - spotting the Schumacher-era Batmobile sitting on the strret, waiting for filming. Keeks sucks. When I take my dog for a walk? We get strafed by a Stealth Skunk. When he takes his dog out? He sees a fucking Batmobile. Granted, it's evidently from Schumacher's BATMAN FOREVER - which automatically makes it not necessarily the coolest Batmobile Keeks might've stumbled across, but it's a Batmobile nonetheless and I'm a tad jealous.
Here's Keeks' introductory missive, followed by some snapshots he was kind enough to grab for us & send in. We really do appreciate your efforts, Keeks. Thanks a ton.
I live in Queens, right near the Kaufman Astoria studio, where the "Arthur" remake has been shooting recently. I haven't seen anything really interesting until this morning. Imagine my surprise when I went to walk my dog and found myself staring at the Batmobile! I believe it's the one from BATMAN FOREVER. Anyway I was able to snap a couple pics from my balcony.

Daily Mail has posted some other pics of the Batmobile in action - looks like they may be from the same location? - you can find them HERE.

When I said fuck you Merrick I was joking because I didn't look at the author of the article and thought it would be funny to blast Merrick. Turns out he did right it. No wonder 1/3 pics is the same. LOLFAIL!1

...for sale on Ebay a couple of years back. Was fully working an everything, but alas the price tag was beyond me. Would have been neat to park one at work, get out and say "what? it's just my car."
-
to the Tumbler makes you realise how stupid that design really was
-
Schumaker's are gaudy and neon, like the movies. This one looked especially ridiculous in the movies, I remember seeing all the parts jiggling about in the movie like it was a kit car sloppily pasted together.
-
You know, when it's not lit up under the whole... "ribs" motif thing, that Batmobile doesn't look half-bad. Certainly better than the Tumbler; not entirely sure why people think that's cool.
-
Did I have a dream in which I saw a souped up purple Porsche meant to look like the old retro Batmobile with the face on the front? Or was that real... maybe even in a cartoon? How the hell did that image get into my head... INCEPTION?
-
Please tell me this is the car that he just tools around town in.
-
I was first twice in row last night... and I managed to not spooge all over the place. Why? Because 'who cares?' that's why.

and they deleted my FIRST comments. i discovered later why and now ive adapted and will strike again. soon.

Doesn't count.

Gosh. The second most ridiculous batmobile ever made captured on location....again. Why is this news? It was revealed weeks ago when someone else saw it sitting, on location, during earlier filming of the same flick. Shortly afterwords we got pics of Russell Brand in Arthur's Batman costume (also from the previous 'Bat film' era). Sorry, I'm interested in seeing this film, I just don't care about yet another story of someone stumbling upon something we've already found out about...at least not this particular something. Those films, specifically Shumacher's, were beyond stupidity. Burton's were tolerable. In fact, I actually liked those two back then when they were the closest thing to the real (comic book) Batman that had been made. In hindsight, not so much. Burton's world is neat looking, but ultimately looks like a set...it looks like a self contained world where if you stepped outside the city limits, you'd stumble into infinite nothingness. Nolan's world seems like the real world.

Always bring a smile to my face. Thanks, guys. Although bravo to Carolinamaestro for just stepping up and claiming it, none of that tentative question mark bullshit.
And that ain't the Batmobile. That is remnants of Schumacher's wet, day-glo dream of Batman. Eww. -

It's the gay, Schumacher Batmobile!
by harryknowlesnonexistentinceptionreview
It's 'Macher-Bad! (Any oldtimers remember that classic old AICN term?)
-
Was hoping for a 1989 Batmobile, but no, it's the horrific Schumacher film Batmobile. Even the Tumbler is better than that.
-
Yeah, FUCK YOU, Schumacher. Your designs and your movies were complete and utter SHIT. Burton and Nolan owned their Bat films. Schumacher was a motherfucking disgrace. "I'm so fucking edgy! I put nips on the costume." Fucking stupid ass cockhole.
-
I've seen pics of the batmobile in the ser of Arthur like 2 months ago, maybe more. WTF Merrick?!

WOOO HOOO! That, and a token will get you on the subway... Eh? Too young to remember subway tokens? Never mind. You go boy!

Best. Batmobile. Evah.
-
in the movie remake no one cares about. How fitting.
-
you buy a fucking DELOREAN. That's one of my goals in life. To own a DeLorean adjusted to look like Doc's. And then drive around and jump out yelling "Great Scott!"
-
Since Arthur is just a child in a grown up body. Only a child would pick the Batmobile from the God awful Batman and Robin.
-
Though a bit overdone, it worked for the more comic-bookish world of that film. I would like to see Nolan give us a Bat-car that's sleeker and sportier in the next installment.
-
This awful batmobile was designed to light up inside all its ribs and and even inside the wheel hubs, that was its shitty gimmick. I hope using this overblown, ridiculous, stupid batmobile is intentional as a joke because it's terrible and deserves no screentime that isn't mocking it.
-
That would have been ultra-cool. I would love to have seen that on the big screen. I won't bother now.
-
Of course this is nowhere near as awesome as that fucking tank from the Nolan films. And its association with Schumacher is bound to send a shiver up your spine. But admit it... if someone gave you the keys to this thing and said, "It's yours. Oh, and it's not just a movie prop... it drives, too. You can drive it to the comic shop, if you'd like."... You'd all piss yourself and you know it. It'd make your whole fucking year.
-
It just cheapens Batman when they have dumb set pieces make cameos in stupid movies! So someone can go, "Oh look it's the Batmobile! That's so funny!" That's not humor! If you can't write humor then get a writer that can! A shortcut to humor is not acceptable just because the audience doesn't know the difference! It's not even the real Batman, it's the, "Gee Batman, how we gonna stop Riddler this time!" Batman!
-
Tumbler places a close second, although (just like the Batpod) it would be impossible to corner at high speed in that thing with those fatass tires.
Burton's Batmobile just looked retarded with that giant jet airscoop on the front. So...what? Batman's sitting right next to a scorching hot jet engine? Hope he has some really excellent A/C... -
Oh and, that's not even a real car. Why would the hubcaps be aligned perfectly? Think about it.
-
... that this is a legitimate part of the Batman mythos. Batman stories --whether in comic books, TV, and film-- have always see-sawed in quality. Silver-age Batman stories sucked. In fact, most agree that the book really didn't start to take itself seriously until the late seventies... and really took off in the eighties. As for TV, only the DC Animation is worth a damn. And as for the movies? We've got the Nolan films. Yeah, many of you like the Burton films, and that's fine. But many of us (like me) think they suck ass. The truth is, when you've got an iconic character that has been around for so many decades... you're bound to get some shitty material. You can't just say, "That's not Batman," or ,"That's not the Batmobile," because it's something you don't like. That IS the fucking Batmobile. You have to take the bad with the good.... Otherwise, don't even waste your time.
-
... to that Schumacher piece of shit, I'd take a Molotov cocktail and burn that bitch to the ground.
-
No, you wouldn't.
-
iconic, though my favorite Batmobile is the one built by Alex Ross and his brother, a replica of the 40's BM:http://tinyurl.com/3733jknThis is funny, a smartcar Photoshopped to look like a BM:http://tinyurl.com/39uplmwIt reminds me of the smartcar Starbug they made for the recent RD mini.
-
Give me Nolan or Burton's and I'd have pee flowing freely. Schumacher's? Fuck that.
-
I will never believe that anyone would burn that car because it was in a movie they didn't like. I can imagine not spending any money on it... but there's no fucking way that anyone would be ashamed to drive that up and down the street a few times. Fuck... I could give a nerd the actual Indiana Jones hat used in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and they'd piss themselves. Who fucking cares if it came from a shitty movie? It's Indiana's hat. Obi-Wan's lightsabre from Phantom Menace... the shark from Jaws 4... Robocop's gun from Robocop 3... we'd all piss ourselves if we were given them, despite the shitty movies they're associated with.
-
Indy's hat and Robocop's gun are going to look the same even if they were in different movies. This Batmobile was ONLY in the lame Batfilms. It's got a stigma attached to it.
-
I would agree, except I think what you describe about Burton's city seeming self-contained, as if nothing exists beyond it, is a strength and adds to the mood of the films, while the current Gotham (Chicago) feels too much like it is the real word (i.e. boring as a superhero city)
-
Your examples such as Indy's hat (KotCS) and Obi Wan's lightsaber (TPM)? Yes, any geek would piss themselves to have them despite the movie not being so hot. The reason why is that the design of the lightsaber and the hat were not part of the problems with either movie. Both look awesome. No geek complained about Indy's hat or Obi Wan's lightsaber in either movie. The movie's had issues for other reasons. The props still looked fucking awesome.Schumacher's abomination on the other hand is exactly representative of major issues with his movies. Terrible design that craps all over what came before it, very little practicality, and just complete shit in general. I don't even remember Jaws 4 or Robocop 3, so I won't comment on those.
-
Good points all around. But for me... seeing this Batmobile out of the context of the rest of the poorly designed shit from Schumacher's sets seems kinda cool. The reason is simple. If I had never seen any of the Batman movies, or even heard of Batman... then I'd look at that car and say, "Fuck me, that's awesome!"
-
Do you mind if I park here?

wow as if both arthur and Batman Forever werent gay enough

...that aintitcoolnews had to ruin this cool and very funny part of the movie. Why did we have to know this in advance?!

Think about Arthur! He's drunk off his A$$!

a strap-on dildo in the driver's seat.
-
at the EMP in Seattle. Most of them were made for a time before high def TV. Most look fragile and cheap.
-
Was it in one of the Hush books where Batman says to Robin "We'll take the car." and Robin says "Which one?" - across a whole page spread of the Batcave, stretching back miles and miles with every single version of the Batmobile ever, from the 60's show onwards including all movie versions? Great panel.
-
I really wish they'd gone with Gervais instead of Brand.
-
It's the shitty "Forever" one. Had me worried there for a second.
-
If I saw him and the real batmobile on the same screen in a movie. He would have to die. PERIOD.
-
LOL... you nerds are priceless.
