The Gipper to grace the big screen once again! A Ronald Reagan biopic in the works!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Ronald Reagan was my first image of a president. As a child of the '80s The Gipper was always PRESIDENT for me until I reached an age where I understood what the office of the President was and began to grasp the different presidents, Lincoln and JFK being the ones that caught my young attention the most.
Hell, my very religious right-wing grandparents bought me a set of novelty 24k Gold Ronald Reagan coins. I wonder if I still have those... they might be worth something... Time to dive into the boxes in the garage!
Anyway, politics aside Reagan's rise is a fascinating story. This movie is being produced by Mark Joseph and Ralph Winter (the X-Mens, both Fantastic Fours, etc) with Jonas McCord (Malice) writing the script according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The story will begin with the 1981 assassination attempt and we'll see Reagan's story in flashbacks and flash-forwards, including his troubled upbringing in a house divided by faith-clashes and alcoholism.
You may remember a mini-series starring Josh Brolin a few years back about The Gipper, but the producers insist that this movie will be far more level-headed and just wants to tell the man's story.
The flick will be called REAGAN and has an estimated budget of $30 million. The script is being written using two best-selling biographies as its basis: "The Crusader" and "God and Ronald Reagan" both by Paul Kengor.

First of all moron, Gorbachev didn't end the cold war. Reagen outspent the Soviets on defense during the 80's, forcing the Soviets to keep up and thus weakening their economy. Reagan had the balls to walk out of Reykjavik Summit. Remember "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down these walls?
This doesn't mean Gorbachev had nothing to do with it. For a Soviet leader he was relatively enlightened. Sure, Perestroika and Glasnost were designed to save the Soviet Union and not collapse it,but I doubt Breshnev would have tried those things.
Here is why Reagan was a great leader in ways most of the libs can't understand. Reagan spoke of the USA as a "shining city on the hill" while the foul democratic president gets on his knees for an apology tour around the world.
Reagan spoke often of the simple goodness of America as a symbol of hope in the world while the left wingers speak of America as a force for evil.

How does that equate or even make the remotest sense? By all respects regarding conventional warfare, the Russians were gentlemen compared to Islamic extremists. Sure, they made threats and built an arsenal -- even a biological/chemical warfare program against a treaty -- but they never went out for provocation and intentionally attacked Americans outside of conflict. In retrospect, it comes out that the Russian people and leaders were just as shit-scared of nuclear war as the American people and leaders. Islamic extremists kill indiscriminately to eradicate our way of life and they do not agree to disagree on ideologies. We more or less kissed and made up with the Russians after a lot of hot air blowing, agreeing to disagree on our cultural differences. The liberals of this country would like to do the same with radical Islam, but it's not at all realistic. Maybe it will take another couple of 9/11 scale incidents for people to realise that we are at war with a hateful ideology, and it's one that is essential to be fought to the death.

If the United States were really founded as a CONSERVATIVE nation, we would have been too conservative to get rid of a king, too conservative to set up a nation without a state religion. Early America was certainly left of center. All you have to do is look at the uniform that George Washington and early US army officers wore, which based its blue and buff colors off the Whigs (liberal party) of English Parliament (the Whigs opposed the Tories, who were the conservatives... even in Canada today they refer to their Conservative MPs as "Tories"... which brings up the irony that Canada was founded as a conservative country while the US was a liberal one, and in the last few hundred years the two have switched, and the US is far more conservative nowadays).
Second, the fact that you aren't able to distinguish between socialism and Tsarist policy is absolutely hilarious, and tells how much you know about this. That's why American's are so giving. Also, notice how the biggest givers to charities in this country are from conservatives. Millionaire hypocrites like Algore and Joe Biden give next to nothing to charities and expect the rest of us to pay higher taxes. The point is, we have the richest poor people in the world. If I have to pay for your Health Care, I better not come to your house and see you with hundreds of dollars in video games, a computer, internet connections, an iPhone, multiple cars, expensive cell phone contracts, etc, etc, etc. Also, if you are taking government assistance, STOP having kids! Plus, out of all the numbers they keep throwing around about the uninsured, if you take away illegal immigrants, 20-somethings that don't want to buy it, those between jobs or went a month or two without insurance, and rich people who pay cash, it's only a little over 8 million uninsured, out of a country of almost 300 million. They could expand Medicaid. They didn't have to revamp the entire system. They can't even pretend like it will make HC less expensive anymore. They're telling Democrats on the campaign trail NOT to talk about HC and NOT to admit that HC costs will STILL go up under Obamacare...

Libertarianism might touch all sorts of sex buttons on you for its promise of money, but in the end, all it will lead to is pooled money and feudalism, be it modern Japanese corporate style or whatnot. But that makes sense for someone like you to believe that because you're a supporter of a White Russian whose basic conclusive thoughts to the Revolution was that "those poor and ignorant and underpriveleged people should have accepted their poverty and ignorance...but they didn't, and that makes them evil." What has Ronald Reagan and his Randian approach to economics done to us in the last 30 years? By cutting from school programs and social services, he's increased ignorance and desperation. How has America fared since she adopted Randianism? She's become more and more like pre-revolutionary Russia. The rich are richer, the poor are poorer and stupider, and the middle class is squeezed. By foregoing moderate policies (and yes, in the global scheme of things, it is the democrats who are moderate and the republicans who are the wingnuts) in favor of Randian ones, America is becoming pre-Revolutionary Russia. Commies are socialists, but they are on the extreme fringe of the movement... Europeans understand this, and hopefully you do too. I support socialist policy in Norway and moderate policy here (since true-blue socialism would never work here), but communism is beyond my limit. I don't want a Soviet styled system, and democrats don't either. But Randianism economic policy is setting up the conditions for America to become the same kind of country Russia was before their civil war. America in two hundred years will be Russian, Part 2. After 8 years of Reagan, we had won the Cold War and brought our country back from the brink of irrelevance...You're out of your mind if you think the hate for Obama is anywhere near the hate liberals had for Reagan. You only have to go back to W. to see a President get more hate than Obama. Conservatives don't personally hate Obama. We disapprove of his policies and his worldview. Liberals, on the other hand, personally hated Bush, Cheney, Rove, Rice, etc, and attacked them personally MUCH more viciously than anything you're seeing now. The vast majority of opposition to Obama is NOT personal at all, it all has to do with his policies.

Perhaps you'll see a small percentage in the message boards that personally attack Obama, but NOTHING like you'll see at the top liberal sites. I go on them all the time. The Huffington Post and especially the dailykos are vicious almost all the time.

I've only attended some single courses a small midwestern college. Never had a teacher talk about the glories of socialism. Instead of getting all this great competition, medium sized companies swallowed small companies and bigger companies then swallowed those medium companies til only the largest corporations remained. Giving a massive tax break with the money. I would rather have tax dollars go back to the people who earn the money anyway. Cut the defense budget by 400 Billion and give a 200 Billion dollar tax break to everyone in the country. Use the rest for schools and infastructure. The military would have to make due with 600 Billion, I think we could remain safe for that price.

Look at the different reactions between the two top people of each movement. Obama has been constantly attacked based on his policies. The vast majority of the criticisms he gets are based on his forced takeover of health care and his out of control spending. Meanwhile, look at the attacks from the Left on Palin. Almost ALL of it is personal. They ignore what she says (unless it's a typo like "refudiate") and viciously attack her and her family. The Left seems to have a primal hate for her and have elevated her to be the current boogieman they choose to clobber the Right with. Before her, it was Bush/Cheney, then Gingrich, then Reagan. Specific policy is hardly ever mentioned and instead you choose to dehumanize her, call her stupid, attack her family, etc. Obama isn't NEARLY attacked as much as Palin or Bush and you know it. It's not even close.
