Another Glimpse At Ian McShane's Boat In PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES!!

Published at:  Sep 07, 2010 10:46:21 AM CDT

Merrick here...

A month or two ago we ran some pictures of a new ship that'll be appearing in PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES (pictures HERE).

At that point, we had no context for what the vessel was or who it belonged to - all we knew was it looked mean and was sitting in a shipyard being readied for filming.

We know know a little more - and have a clearer image of the boat's unpleasant bowsprit (please forgive me if this term is wrong - I'm open to correction in the Talkbacks below).

This is EMBIGGENABLE!

The ship in question - it's called Queen Anne's Revenge and belongs to Ian McShane's Blackbeard character, who we got our first look at last week (HERE).

PIRATES 4 opens next May with a screenplay by returning scripters Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio (shaped from Tim Powers' novel ON STRANGER TIDES, availabe HERE) and helmed by Rob Marshall.

    From the marmaduke review:

    by ultratron

After some research I found out that Great Dane life expectancy is less than ten years due to the way they're built and how they've been bred. This is the movie's greatest asset, hopefully Marmaduke doesn't live to see a sequel

We can't exactly quote Simpsons episodes from much later than '96, since '97 was the last year the show was funny, but why does it matter what year the reference is from, anyway? It's not like it's topical or anything. It's just a humorous fake word.

Yes, it's a Simpsons reference. Is there a statute of limitations on the age of a reference? That's a shame; most of my favorite shows and movies are older than that.

    by tv's frank

Well, actually I think MiggyBloo's "weakest link" reference was supposed to be ironic there, which is kind of clever except that it was taken from Family Guy. But I still don't see any problem with quoting a 14 year old Simpsons episode. This isn't rocket science, it's brain surgery.

    new simpsons

    by bright_boy

Is not still going strong. They just rehash old story ideas. It's overly referential to the point where it feels like one of those lame "epic movie" type parody movies. In an attempt to keep the show fresh they've fundamentally changed the characters (homer not just dumb, he's psychotic; moe is suicidal; barney doesn't drink etc). The new eps have funny moments, but usually get lame when the story starts rolling.
