as long as Joe Q. Public doesn't go "this is a 28 Days Later ripoff" after the first 10 minutes and let's that "waking up in a hospital after the zombie apocalypse starts" slide, we should be good. lot's of non-horror genre folks I know are going to be checking this one out on the strength of the promo stuff being shown.

    by zombot

this and fallout: new vegas are going to make my october for the next year....at least.
...one question- what kind of chaos would rip up the hallways that much (ceilings and wiring)..how would zombies do that? maybe survivors with fire axes swinging madly over head...but that hallway looks like it was ravaged by Cameron's ALIENS. I'm all for leaving some mystery (how did it happen?) but it seems a little extreme. all that shit ripped up (by zombies, survivors, whatever) but his little locked(?) room untouched. no zombs getting in...no survivors using him as bait to escape or anything?

    by weylandyutani

but I wonder if it will work as a multi-season TV series? I can see a mini series, but how do you make a show about slow moving undead exciting for more than a few hours?

    comic had it first

    by zombot

apparently the writing of the comic happened BEFORE 28 days later, but then the movie came out, and they said 'fuck it, we're keeping it'. it's also not the first time a guy waking in a hospital to a devastated or invaded world anyway...been a staple of some sci fi things since 50's sci-fi horror comics, day of the triffids, twilight zone, etc.

Walking Dead came out in 2003

    by badmrwonka

certainly it was being worked on for months, if not more than a year, before that. 28 Days later didn't come out in the US til June 2003. I think it's just a coincidence, if you think of the timeline. it's just that Walking Dead is only coming out now on TV, and 28 Days Later was 7 years ago.

The funny book has been going for seven years and minus about 10 issues it has manage to execute an engrossing storyline for all that time. there is no reason to think they won't be able to use the funnybook as a template for future seasons. Also zombies aren't really the point of the comic strip and for the show I think they aren't slow moving.

    by badmrwonka

I know you're just a drooling troll, so I really oughtn't engage you, but come on man. you can google the box office in like 10 seconds and find out that Machete opened strong. it was a $20 mil budget genre movie, and it made $14 million back just opening weekend. it'll probably close to double it's money overall (probably $35 mil), and make a nice little profit. not to mention it'll make a lot more money than most overseas in spanish speaking countries. I don't mind trolls like you, I find it moderately amusing. but just take the time to look up what you're talking about before you troll for attention, yeah? give it some effort! RPLocke is out there EVERY DAY working his ass off as the king of the trolls. you can't ever expect to be anywhere near that caliber with shoddy work like you exhibited today.
and not for nothing, and this may be WAY out of left field, but just the way you worded your trolling, and the idiotic way of writing "Mexan" instead of "Mexican"...are you a right winger? I may be making a huge leap here, but you strike me as someone that uses the same rhetoric (shove down our throats) about everything that Fox News uses about Obama, and particularly health care.
again, I may be way off, but I just have a feeling that you're a raging right-winger. am I right?

    simple explanation for door grammar

    by zombot

you've all just herded the zombies into that room and chained the door, nobody has found a board yet to slide through the handles, there is a nice gap of about 4 to six inches with zombie fingers and arms sticking out. it's your task to spray the warning, but you don't want to be anywhere near the gap in the doors. you just fought your ass off to get them in there, you don't want to SEE them or risk being GRABBED by them again...so you stand to one side and paint your warning, then dart to the other side and finish. then someone comes with a board and closes the door tighter, leaving idiots on AICN to wonder why you arranged the words that way.

Waking in the hospital is a trope, nothing more.

    by davidwebb

Nobody's ripping anything off, except maybe Day of the Triffids. It's been done in Resident Evil, 28 Days Later, Walking Dead and probably a thousand other properties I'll never read or watch; it's a sound plot device, for leaving your protagonist both unnaffected and unaware of the outside world. Nothing more.

Although the premise of waking up in a hospital bed has obviously been done before, it's a great formula that always gets me.

Besides, AMC and Darabont pretty much get a free pass based on the brilliance of Breaking Bad & Shawshank.

is just stupid. As much as I like The Walking Dead this is ridiculous. You mean to tell me that in a world where zombies rule a comatose dude in a bed wouldn't be easy pickings? Let's see how Kirkman ends his series. Who wants to bet Rick wakes up and the whole thing was a nightmare?
