    Great show

Anybody who's a fan of detective drama and/or Helen Mirren would do themselves a huge favor by checking this series out.

    DioxholsterReturns- yes it was pre-CSI

    by mgthedj

It was a great series, or in US terms a series of TV movies. More of a thowback is series run to Columbo and McCloud, as Prime Suspect did about four 90-minute episodes a year. The first one had a very young Ralph Fiennes as the boyfriend of the victim. Tons of now well-known British actors did those shows.Hollywood tried to do an official version for years, first with Helen, then recast with someone younger. They finally found a way for it to work, via a clone. They incorporated more comedic elements, and it's "The Closer" on TNT.However "Prime Suspect" is a hard-nosed, no comedy, bleak show, and of course Helen is fantastic.------later-----m

    The first one is genius

    by paulloch

The other ones are very good. She is so unlikable and hard-edged in the first one, you're convinced she might be railroading an innocent man. The later ones soften her up a bit. Still the most realistic portrayal of Police Station politics along with the Wire
