GALACTICA Mastermind Ronald D. Moore Developing POTTER-ish Drama For NBC!!
I am – Hercules!!
Deadline Hollywood reports “Star Trek: The Next Generation”/“Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” strongman Ronald D. Moore, who went on to serve as showrunner for “Carnivale,” “Battlestar Galactica” and “Caprica,” is now at work on a new pilot for NBC.
Excerpt:
The project from Sony TV where the Battlestar Galactica developer inked a two-year overall deal in May, is described as an adult Harry Potter set in a world ruled not by science but by magic. I hear the drama got pilot and series penalties totaling close to $2 million.
Exciting! After “Justified,” Moore’s 2009 Fox TV-movie “Virtuality” was the best pilot I saw last year.

and metropolis holy shit
-
When this fails, maybe he can move on to vampires.
-
...what these penalties are please.
-
You have to pay me big bucks, whether the series goes forward or not.
-
a series about Harry Potter as an adult?
-
but I'll see anything Ronald Moore pumps out. Virtuality had so much potential too. Get Bear McCreary to score this! And for the love of God please get some good ratings, and a set start and end date. Maybe 5 seasons?
-
J.K. Rowling is a litigious bitch
-
because of Neil Gaiman's Books of Magic.
-
All you have to do is look at the covers for Books of Magic to see what Herc is talking about.

If you liked Virtuality you should check out The Deep.
by dailysportspages
Its on the BBC.
-
Which bombed.
And hasn't The DEEP been universally criticised by EVERYONE as being...well...shit? -
That show doesn't seem to have a bright future....time for him to move on perhaps.
-
I mean full on, "it will damage your brain" retarded.
Anything Ron Moore does will have my interest, should be good. -
"they're angels" gets a metaphorical internet slap to the face.
-
Anyhow, you know whats good about the ending of The Deep?
God didnt do it. -
EVERYTHING ELSE. Seriously, the twist with the asian guy at the UN outpost made NO SENSE AT ALL, Clem coming back to life after his pod thing CRACKED (!) in the previous ep made NO SENSE, the radiated guy's final speech was pathetic, the fact the sea LIT UP when they fired the radar was dumb, that no one ever referred to the ecological consequences of a underwater nuclear explosion was stupid, the scene with the wisecracking ghost of the dead crew member was retarded, and the final scene on the beach was pretentious bollocks. Other than that though, oh yeah The Deep was well worth a watch
-
So Harry's a fundamentalist Christian?
-
The first season...will be the last season...and half way through, they will have a break...for 3 months...because they are stupid like that.
-
enough of a universe to explore beyond hogwarts. prequel or sequel would be awesome. nerd rant over.
-
and a plan.
-
Should you be interested in Gaimain's take on the matter:
http://www.januarymagazine.com/profiles/gaiman.html -
In the words of M. Night Shamalama, what a twist!
-
And by properly, I mean not on the SighFy channel.
-
Isn't that what Battlestar turned into. Will it have a Wizard??(shhhh, you know he doesn't like to be called that). Maybe they can have a character that dies and come back to life and then vanish in to thin air like air like a magic frakin Zombie
-
I thought was referring to Dennis. If I never hear the name Harry Potter again, it'll be a million years too soon. Despite what Gaiman says, she probably did copy him. She has 1000th of his talent/imagination. It never ceases to amaze and annoy me how successful her pap has become. Good PR is the only possible explanation surely? The stories and characters are unoriginal and uninteresting.
-
"fool me, can't get fooled again!"
There's no chance of me watching anything that Ron Moore puts out unless it's after it's run has ended and I watch it on DVD. And that's only if it has great word of mouth.
The HORRID ending of BSG is still an open wound. -
A friend and I had ideas for a show set at a college that used to be a magic school. Silly us, we thought once Harry Potter came out, ours would look too derivative.
-
GODDIDIT
-
Because GOD FUCKING DID IT.
-
It's about a kid who goes to a magical college and discovers that the magical lands he loved reading about as a kid are real. And he also has sex, does drugs, and swears a lot. It's a great book that would adapt fairly well, as long as it's cast VERY CAREFULLY.
-
Clive Barker's "Imajica" or "The great and secret Show."
-
go away ronnie
-
was a fun film in this genre. wish it would go to dvd....
-
...Magic is a gift from Jesus. I will NEVER watch another Ron Moore series. Never!
-
Let's not pretend Gaiman has ever had an original thought in his life. I like Gaiman well enough, but Harry Potter is not a rip-off of The Books of Magic. That's one of the dumbest things I've ever seen Herc say. Sorry, Herc.
-
Is that series canceled?
-
Did he ever have anything really to do with Caprica? I gave that show chance after chance after chance... there was no inspiration, nothing interesting, and went nowhere. I can scarcely believe that this same person did the first 2 seasons of BSG
-
and let him keep his original accent this time *coughJamieBambercough*
These are the demands & sayings of buffywrestling. -
Imajica I mean...The homoerotic weirdness in the first chapters, and then the dimensional portal that takes us to tolkien's "middle earth", left me wondering what the hell kind of story this thing was. I kept reading as long as I could and eventually had to give the book back to my girlfriend at the time.
-
Is that becoming your signature post or something now? "Watched that again recently. The first hour is still really good. But I had forgotten how much it descends into a big-budget A-Team episode by the end..." Cause you just said the same thing about Wrath of Kahn, in the pic of the day thread. WTF -
... would everybody please quit praising Moore and Rowling. There is almost nothing original in Rowling's little series. She just regurgitated concepts and characters from countless other stories and fairy tales.
-
The CHOPPAH has now used that 3 times today, odd since he's usually kinda original, even if I don't always agree with him, lazy day I guess...
-
It sounds very much like the Dresden Files, except the TV show failed, mostly because it failed to adopt the charisma, humor, and complexity behind the main character. The TV version of Harry Dresden was about as compelling as watching an economist describe the virtues of free market capitalism to a communist audience.
-
Cause that shit is hella funny, son!
-
is Skywalker_Lockes doing his impression for a chest wound.
-
When id the Harry Potter adult parody coming? It must be due soon!
-
...was the description I saw elsewhere.
-
Though Gaiman has said that both he and Rowling were ripping off T.H. White (Once and Future King) and thought there was no merit to the claim that she nicked his idea, look at the facts. She was writing the first HP novel around the time the first comic came out. The hero is 1) a British kid, 2)dark hair with round glasses, 3) has questions about his parentage and it's clear the man who's raising him is not his biological father, 3) is destined to be a 'chosen one' of sorts, 4) and has a magical pet owl. That's kind of where the similarity ends, but it's a lot of similarities. Though Tim Hunter would have kicked Harry Potter's ass for being such a whiny bitch. Or would have snarked him to death.
-
speaking of Gaiman, there's a report going around that someone's developing a Sandman series, looking to get Kripke from Supernatural to be showrunner!http://tinyurl.com/268gvj4

Sorry fuck-faces but it is true.

'They're Angels. God did it. Let's doom ourselves, our children, and our entire culture to a slow, pointless death'.
http://tinyurl.com/ksq7kc -
it could be fucking epic! The problem is no one seems to be able to pull it off. I will be waiting....
-
Still crying over the fact Angel got canceled?
-
and besides, it doesn't like that name
-
Randall Garrett's Lord Darcy is most likely the best inspiration for this.
(Yes, its more Victorian than Modern, but the idea is much closer than Books of Magic or HP.)
