Dwayne Johnson Smells What's Cooking On THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND!!

It's been assumed for a while that Brendan Fraser would return for the oft-mentioned JOURNEY OT THE CENTER OF THE EARTH sequel - now called JOURNEY 2: THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND. Seems such assumptions would be incorrect. So says THR. Apparently there were issues surrounding the picture's start date, hence Fraser won't be returning. Dwayne Johnson will now appear as the adult male lead in JOURNEY 2 - playing the boyfriend of Josh Hutcherson's mom (Hutcherson's Sean Anderson is returning from the first film). Johnson is swept away on an adventure with Josh, in a concept said to be loosely based on Jules Verne's THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND . Brad Peyton (CATS & DOGS: THE REVENGE OF KITTY GALORE) will direct JOURNEY 2, which is to be shot in 3D. Moderately budgeted at around $60 million, 2008's progenitor movie grossed nearly $242 million globally.
