Dwayne Johnson Smells What's Cooking On THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND!!

It's been assumed for a while that Brendan Fraser would return for the oft-mentioned JOURNEY OT THE CENTER OF THE EARTH sequel - now called JOURNEY 2: THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND. Seems such assumptions would be incorrect. So says THR.
Apparently there were issues surrounding the picture's start date, hence Fraser won't be returning. Dwayne Johnson will now appear as the adult male lead in JOURNEY 2 - playing the boyfriend of Josh Hutcherson's mom (Hutcherson's Sean Anderson is returning from the first film). Johnson is swept away on an adventure with Josh, in a concept said to be loosely based on Jules Verne's THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND 
.
Brad Peyton (CATS & DOGS: THE REVENGE OF KITTY GALORE) will direct JOURNEY 2, which is to be shot in 3D. Moderately budgeted at around $60 million, 2008's progenitor movie grossed nearly $242 million globally.

The book would not be a thrilling movie. It's sort of like a slow mix of Robinson Crusoe and Lost. Nemo is in about one chapter of the whole book. They're probably going to dump 95% of the book and just do some riff on Cap'n Nemo's secret base.

was a sequel to two other Verne books -- 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA and THE CHILDREN OF CAPTAIN GRANT (the latter often translated as IN SEARCH OF THE CASTAWAYS). It has nothing to do with JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH. All have been filmed previously; one movie version of THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND tried to spice it up with giant insects, or maybe it was giant crustaceans -- I mercifully forget.

Harryhausen's version from 1961. The giant beasts (crab, bees, chicken-thingy, etc.) were Nemo's attempt to solve world hunger. It also contained, IMHO, Bernard Herrmann's best score of his Harryhausen efforts.

Seriously, after the awesome RUNDOWN and the so-so WALKING TALL, he was slumming in kiddie roles for years, he seemed to be coming back to real action with this fall's FASTER, PROTECTION, and even Fast & Furious 5. Now it seems he's going back to the crap.

kinda liked the original but then again i was a kid(saw it in the '60's) but the journey/earth remake was awful if they do that to island they should be unemployed,i can do better than that

made a version a few years back with Patrick Stewart and Kyle MacLaghlin (sp) with awful CGI creatures (giant spiders? geez..)and despite the decent cast was terrible. It didn't contain a hint of the sense of wonder (I loved the old Cinefantastique mag), that Harryhausen's did. I fear this will be the same, except with Dwayne Johnson's patented WTF look on his face.

It really didn't have much going for it and I doubt anyone was really expecting this sequal to arise.
But maybe they'll use tagline: experience a sequal to the adventure, which did okay at the BO, but didn't arise any bigger excitement. Now starring the Rock. -

Fraser - had great comedic movies (Encino Man, Airheads, Blast from the Past) then went action (Mummy franchise) and went to shit with kiddie movies. He almost redeemed himself with Crash, but sunk deeper.
The Rock started with Scorpion King, The Rundown, Walking Tall, and is sinking fast. He came up for air with The Other Guys, and Protection, but sadly he's being dragged back down with this.
I fear that when Fraser and Johnson crossed paths in the Mummy Returns, they discovered the TRUE Mummy's curse. -
Welcome to the Jungle was a considered title (among others), but it was released as The Rundown. Did it come out as WTTJ in some other country??

The reason Arnold was able to create a role for himself - same as Stallone - is because they worked with small movies at the beginnig of their career - building themselves with people, most of them non-jewish, like Cameron. Speilberg had nothing to do with their careers and he could have - but same as those in charge today,they would rather cast out of their temple than give chances to people the audience wants to see

was the worst movie I have ever seen in a theatre (beating out "Joe vs. The Volcano" a close 2nd). The animation was so bad they used thought bubbles for the animals speech instead of animating their mouths. From the credits it looks like a bunch of bored Arab sheiks just wanted to make a movie, threw some money at Hollywood (who was very happy to take it, thank you very much) and got ripped off in the process.
A TOTAL **shame** on everyone involved with this piece of crap.
And Brendan (who I do really like) must be having a mid-life crisis because he has let his body go to hell, is taking this crapper roles and obviously doesn't seem to care. -
Something has happened here on this talkback that rarely happens...everyone is in agreement, and on two points: 1) that this movie idea is awful and you should stay away from it; 2) What happened man? Seriously, what happened? You were supposed to be the new action king. No-one would challenge you. You would have been the action guy that our kids would be talking about when they hit 40...the stuff of legends...but something has happened. Something terrible. You are accepting awful jobs. It can't be the money because you would earn more doing the action stuff. So its either you have a terrible agent...or you have shit for brains and are making one bad decision after the other...or you are listening to your wife who feels that you should be in something that the kids would enjoy...or someone has a video of you doing some sick shit, and you're being blackmailed. Whatever it is, repent. Revolt. Stand up and grab hold of those Samoan balls and say - I AM AN ACTION HERO AND FUCK ANYONE WHO EVER MAKES ME WEAR A TUTU WHILST CALLING ME A FAIRY!!! You were supposed to be the people's champ. Now...be that champ. This is your last chance. Otherwise someone like John Cena will take your title...and that would be horrendous. We live in family friendly usa where movies are made for everyone - not just guys, and yes it sucks. i don't think Dwayne has a choice. And I was lamenting the Rock not doing better films. He has been doing films that even Eddie Murphy and Adam Sandler won't take. He really should be doing more action films or at least comedies like Be Cool (but better). He was great in Be Cool and one of the few things worth watching.

Fraser isn't getting his salary demands for this movie (whether you think he's worth it or not, he and his agent apparently do), that's why he isn't doing it, this news was out weeks/months ago...
