WAITING FOR SUPERMAN - Austin - Thurs Nite Ticket Winners!
Hey folks, Harry here... with the winners of the WAITING FOR SUPERMAN passes below. I'm quite excited about this one. I saw the film back in May of this year - and flatly told them we had to have a screening in Austin, and I even proposed anywhere else they wanted. This is a film that must be seen. It isn't liberal or conservative. It isn't Fox News or MSNBC's news.
In an odd way this film is like what a great news program used to be about in this country. This film investigates the problem, what that does to society and regions and then how it can be reversed, how teachers could earn more and not rape the public, and they show why there's still a problem. This is a film to show everyone.
Seriously, think about it. "I'm the guy telling you about this shit!" And what do y'all think of my edumacation? So agreed... a problem. Even a monkey like me can see the difference between this and a Michael Moore documentary. I like Michael, cause I tend to agree with him. But I also know that he's doing fairly one-sided pieces sometimes. This is just the facts, but told in a manner that makes you care about these stories. There's no way you can be unaffected and quite a bit shocked by some of this - but incredibly enthused by what some very motivated people with solutions that they've proven. That's incredibly awesome. Sometimes a project like this can help wake people up a bit and not make you depressed, but hopeful and motivated to be helpful in the ways we as folks can. By vote or volunteering or lending a hand as best we can by simply being there with our own kids. We don't have particularly super powers, but we do have the best of our abilities and even those carry responsibilities.
The Film is Playing at the ALAMO DRAFTHOUSE on South Lamar in Austin, Tx at 7:30pm. I'm asking that folks show up no later than 6:30pm to help ensure a full house. The director, Davis Guggenheim is attending - and with a crowd of educators, parents, future parents and human beings I expect a lively audience filled with comments and questions. If you're not on the list, I've got a feeling we're going to have a good turn out, but this the kind of movie that carries great karma for just making the attempt. If there's room, we'll fill every seat.

...and if he does, it is only because he wants to gouge his eye out!!!
-
the fact is, anything that contains any sort of perceived slight against America, anything that suggests the oft-repeated cannard of "We're number one!" might not be true, is labelled left-wing. And immediately, we get "Why do you hate America?" and "If you don't like it, leave" comments.
The extreme left and right wings are too far apart to be brought to consensus by anything, least of all a movie. -
This is as one-sided and intemperate as any of Michael Moore's screeds. You just bought into it this time.
Several smart and articulate people explained in the last talkback why and how you're being misled here. I recommend you look over it. -
Fuck taxes...if you want your kid to learn, take an interest in it and you do what you need to do. Stop asking me to pay for your kids future.

Are motherfucking crazy, Harry? Teachers are "raping the public?" I think the lap band accidentally cut off the circulation to your brain. Jesus.
-
so you don't support public money going to private catholic and charter schools ala the Republican format? Just wondering.

THERE ARE GOOD TEACHERS, AND THERE ARE BAD TEACHERS

The bad teachers should be publicly raped and that will keep the good ones on their toes.

I HEARD THE CALIFORNIA TEACHER'S UNION WAS OUTRAGED
by bringingsexyback
that they published teacher evaluations and that the taxpayers who write their checks are able to see them. Suckers.

and don't let them come back to school until their parents have taken all the stupid out of them.
-
The schools have an obligation to educate all children to the best of their ability. Chances are the stupid kids have stupid parents so I don't think your solution would work too well.

Somebody has to scrub the toilets.

Wanna bet that 99.9% of the ones attending are gonna be teabagge

Sorry Harry but I rather join the KKK than to be in a room full of birthers and teabaggers that smell like palmitoleic acid. And I find it hilarious that you think Michael Moore is one sided and not this Davis Guggenheim guy. Funny as hell.

(There you go!) Sorry Harry but I rather join the KKK than to be in a room full of birthers and teabaggers that smell like palmitoleic acid. And I find it hilarious that you think Michael Moore is one sided and not this Davis Guggenheim guy. Funny as hell.

This last post clearly confirms my suspicions. The man now knows everything that is wrong with the education system in this country because he saw a movie. Guggenheim provided him with all the facts about this simple topic that he will ever need.
-
I saw this in Cleveland a couple of months ago and actually talked to one of the producers. Its an awesome movie. The kind of movie that can really serve to facilitate change. Its criminal about what the state of education in this country. And every one is to blame. the teachers, the unions the politicians. we could take one day off of the "war" in Iraq and fix the educational system in this country. ONE FREAKING DAY. A billion dollars.
The question that people should be asking is not what is the problem with the educational system in the United States but WHY do we have a problem with education in this country. -
this movie does a great job of NOT being one sided. if anything the audience who are watching this movie were already aware of what ails the educational system. Its people like you who should see it. so you can understand. because people like you dont. Douche

thats the answer...american capitalism requires a permanent underclass. so your answer is actually apropo.

@xphyle Nope - Waiting for Superman is 100% Right Wing Propagand
by teabaggerharry
Sorry dewd, but I'm not buying this Bill Gate's sponsored propaganda bull shit.
Guggenheim has cherry-picked and packaged every hoary scare story from the last twenty-five years: the lazy and incompetent teacher, the reactionary and obstructionist union as represented by "villainess" Randi Weingarten (of whom one commentator notes that the movie "make[s] something of a foaming satanic beast"), the Democratic Party supported by those teacher unions, the lack of incentive rewards for "good" teachers, and not enough charter schools.
Sound familiar? Yep. It's the typical Right Wing propaganda at full force. Like I said before: This fucking film is ONE SIDED.
Just in case you think this propaganda flick is a one-shot deal, brace yourself for another one, due on May 7. It's a film titled, "The Lottery." Yeah, you guessed it -- another "documentary," this one about the charter school lottery process in Harlem, starring Geoffrey Canada, Eva Moskowitz (Harlem Success Academy), Dacia Toll (Achievement First), and Joel Klein. The movie's position? How about this excerpt from a review from the CNBC website:
"The Lottery exposes the backwards politics and nefarious agendas of politicians and special interest groups who stand in the way of improving a failing public school system."
One sided all the way. And like I said before, the ones going to see this crap are old farts that are either teabaggers, birthers or both.
No thanks Harry. I'll keep the change you keep drinking the Kool-Aid. -
So you dont think there is absolutely anything wrong with our school system in the US? So if the teachers, unions, bloated bureocracy and politicians arent to blame then who pray tell is? please enlighten me.
