Is AMC About To Order A 13-Episode Second Season Of Frank Darabont's Zombie Series THE WALKING DEAD??

Published at:  Sep 02, 2010 12:26:18 AM CDT

I am – Hercules!!

Can those concerned that AMC only ordered a six-episode first season of Frank Darabont’s new zombie series “The Walking Dead” breathe easier?

TV Squad says the channel has ordered a 13-episode second season.

AMC itself, however, says this is only a rumor.

The first season launches on Halloween.

    Oooh first! Whoopity doo! Heh

    by nevertalksback

I was also just informed via a friend of mine that all AMC shows are available to download on itunes the day after the premiere. I was worried I wouldn't be able to watch this until DVD as AMC does not stream their shows anywhwere on the internets and I don't have "good" cable. Soooo stoked this will be around at least for 2 seasons. It means they'll really be able to get into some of the crazy shit that happens as the comic progresses. I wonder how much AMC will be willing to show, it really gets FUCKED up as it goes along... Is it Halloween yet?! :p

The suits at AMC must really like what they've seen, so far. I'm really looking forward to this show.

    Problems with Second season...

    by michael_jacksons_ghost

like how in the hell are they going to do the whole prison storyline? There are only so many things that AMC can show! Not spoiling anything for the newbies to the show...but for the talkbackers that have read the books, you know what I mean!

Yes. IIRC SGU and Spartacus both got second seasons before they debuted.

    SGU and Spartacus

    by alientoast

Both examples of why it can fail (SGU) or be a great choice (Spartacus). Looking forward to the Spartacus prequel and more golden one-liners from Batiartus.

I am also concerned about the spoilers you're alluding to. I haven't seen any of AMC's critically acclaimed shows so I don't know about how they handle cursing and violence, etc. I agree, how the hell will they handle the prison, or the stuff at the camp nearby the prison with the Governorl... that shit gets waay FUCKED up! :p Either way I am soooo looking forward to this show! :D

Never understood how the whole Zombocalypse thing could work...

    by harryknowlesnonexistentinceptionreview

...Okay, there's a virus that reanimates the dead. What could possibly be the evolutionary benefit for this? And the dead eat the living. Why? They're dead, why would they need food? The virus is animating the corpses, but they're still corpses, still rotting away. No need for food. That said, I'll still watch anyway.

In other news, Kelsey Grammer wants to bring back Frasier...

    by harryknowlesnonexistentinceptionreview

...or do a sinoff with Frasier and his son. Maybe he should have Frasier open a bar and grill in Queens. "Frasier Crane's Place"... is Martin Balsam still alive? No? Anne Meara's still around to play the cook, though. Guess Grammer needs cash ever since he lost the Geico Gecko gig a few years back. All those hookers get expensive after awhile, I guess.

Walking Dead HAS NOT BEEN GIVEN A SECOND SEASON (yet)

    by greatone3

This story was also posted at io9.com, and they now have updated their article to state that they have been contacted by AMC and told that this is just a rumor, and nothing is official.

Spoiler, I wonder if Michonne will be introduced

    by turingtestee

before they get to the prison. Cant see them sitting on her for two seasons. I want them to rip-off BSG and have her pre-zombie ex appear to her in-head . . . but still attached with a chain.

So 19 Episodes ordered, Sounds more like 1 season

    by saen

Seriously, 6 episodes does not a season make. That barely is a mini-series.

    Zombies in downtown ATL

    by deelzbub

I was working downtown Atlanta today, and was keeping my eyes peeled for zombies.
    Saw a few.
    One wanted a cigarette.
One wanted me to buy a nice watch.
One wanted change to ride the Marta bus.

    It also happened...

    by slappy magoo

...with the short-lived Showtime series "Huff." It got a second season before the first episode debuted. Paget Brewster, who was seriously infringing on Ted McGinely's turf, cheered "I'm no longer a show killer!" But after the second season, that was it.

Don't know if you would consider this to be the same thing, but Steven Spielberg's "Amazing Stories" and the Friends spinoff "Joey" were initially ordered with a second-season commitment right off the bat.

    HKNEIR, re: Zombie virus

    by outsidechance

By that logic there shouldn't be rabies. Like a zombie virus rabies causes death and is transmitted by bites. I think what you're mixing is that evolution in the case of the virus is the growth of the virus, not the carriers. The virus evolves a survival mechanism to reproduce by biting, it induces the carriers to eat the living, which entails biting. Result: more victims and reproduction of the virus species.

Yes, at some point, the virus could run out of hosts. However, that's true with any organism. Under the "k capacity" theory, every species has a desire to reproduce as much as possible until the point where it consumes it's entire environment. Once k capacity is reached, that species dies and new species evolve to take its place.

A zombie virus, for the most part, fits right in with that.

    Question re Rubicon

    by himbo

I have no doubt that it is well-done. The reason I've not tuned in however, is that it looks like a story I've seen a few times before (unlike say Mad Men). Is Rubicon more than 3 days of the Condor ("Is there another CIA within the CIA?) cause that's how the marketing has sold it. It's the same reason I've never gone back to see Bourne 2 or 3 again- they were pretty derivative, if well done.
