DOCTOR WHO's 6th Season Will Actually Be Seasons 6 And 7!!
Merrick here...
At the MediaGuardian Edinburgh TV Festival 2010, DOCTOR WHO overlord Steven Moffat discussed the upcoming wave of DOCTOR WHO episodes. Most of us assumed they would follow the show's previously established 13 episode "series" structure (making the forthcoming episodes Series 6 - i.e. "Season 6"). This, however, turns out to be incorrect. The forthcoming 13 episodes will actually comprise Series 6 and 7.
Seems each of these seasons will each be roughly half the length of DW's traditional 13 episode run, and bridged by what's being touted as a whopper of a cliffhanger.
The entirety of this video discussion with Moffatt can be found HERE, but I've transcribed his pertinent comments below...
"DOCTOR WHO will come back for seven episode at Easter, builds to an earth shattering climax at Episode 7, there will be a huge cliffhanger...a cliffhanger we could never do normally at the end of a series of DOCTOR WHO...because it would be too long until it came back...an enormous< honestly game changing cliffhanger for The Doctor and May and Rory - it'll change everything for them. In order to give you time to recover, we'll let you go off...have your Summer Holidays...and come back in the Autumn for what will be another six episodes. For what will be, in fact, Series 7 I suppose. The wrong expression would be to say we're splitting it...we're making, actually, two separate series."
The show's fifth (and most recent season) will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray in early November here in the States and is already up for pre-order HERE
. Seasons 1-4 of the show, covering Doctors Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant, should be findable through the same link - but are also streaming through Netflix.
I personally know many people who are resisting taking a look at this show (i.e. the 2005 shows on up), having pre-judged that it's no different than its often awkward and frequently under produced "classic" progenitor. That's an understandable misgiving, and one I used to share. But several friends...whose opinions I trust...pretty much pressured me into taking a look at the new series. I found Eccleston's episodes promising but felt they never truly achieved what they were striving for. The Tennant episodes, however, are often wildly immiganitive, dramatically affecting, conceptually bold, comedically brilliant, and sometimes amazingly executed (a sequence in which the Doctor's TARDIS chases a car down a busy freeway - I broad daylight- dodging and swaying between cars - is a damn fine by any series' standards).
If you're one of these doubters and haven't done so yet, take a look at this and give it a while to settle in. You may be surprised by what you find - even at its weakest, it's one of the...if not the...most solid genre shows on TV right now. And, given its emphasis on bold characterization and its smart tweaking of absurd conceits into sometimes potent drama, it's likely to hold that mantle for a quite while.

Moffat is the creative force behind both shows at the moment, so since Sherlock did so well the bbc are breaking up Dr Who to give him time to work on Sherlock's second series.
-
don't care what he says, they are splitting it.
-
Season 7 my arse
-
Booyah
-
hope it works out, will be nice to have doctor who on throughout the year, and sounds like Moffat has got something big planned. Calling it two seasons feels a bit OTT though, almost as ridiculous as them claiming that when Caprica comes back it will be the second part of season one.
-
Love that girl. I expect her or Rory to legit die in of those seasons. I think it helps out with Matt Smith's contract since the rumor is he is getting 5 seasons, so I think another two years for him and he is out. B
-
That confused me for a minute there.
Also, I don't want to begrudge anybody getting into Who for any reason, but...the Tardis in a high-speed freeway chase? That's what sold you on DOCTOR WHO? Oof. -
Clearly doesn't watch the show....
-
I'm all for it. Both series are FANTASTIC. HELL YES.
-
was from the Christmas episode "The Runaway Bride", which introduced us to Donna Noble, who later become the Doctor's traveling companion. The newer series, especially with Tennant, have had moments of high comedy, which is what the freeway chase was, but it really worked. The absurdity of that blue spinning box with the Doctor steering with a rope attached to his feet while trying to rescue Noble - it was awesome.
I suggest catching up with the Matt Smith eps once they air (or come to disc). Amy Pond is a great companion, along with Rory, and the zaniness of the the first few minutes of the last episode had me on the floor. -
I'm guessing in 2012 and 2013 it won't air around easter/spring at all and instead all 13 episodes will air from sept/oct onwards with the Christmas Day episode acting as the finale. The BBC just don't get the ratings they want from the show in the spring slot. They're only splitting it in 2011 because they don't have a show to replace it yet in the spring slot. They will either move Merlin there in 2012 or the new big pirates series in development will debut then. This is nothing to do with budget OR Sherlock. Moffat will still have exactly the same workload split or no split seeing as the season will be shot over 9 months as normal.
-
Just finished the second mini-movie last night, cannot wait to see the third. Even in its weak moments, still better than most of what is on US TV right now.
-
It's obvious that it's being done so they can charge a full season price for half a season when the dvds are released. And it's already too expensive by far. Over $50 for 13 episodes? It's the only tv series that I pirate rather than purchase.
-
showed how to do this. It has also conditioned me to accept it.
"My name is Michael Weston, and I used to be a Timelord." -
Why does BBC only produce 13 eps a year? Is it just "the way things are done" on the beeb? Seems like in the US we get several more eps per season than 13, like 18-24?
-
If the brits have an equivalent... Either way, BBC is not gonna win any fans with this one, and as an intelligent person im shocked moffat would make such a spineless showrunner and industry apologist ... Congrats BBC, you are now officially no better than SyFy, USA, or any of the other shitty cable chsnnels that run this con job... Err, i mean this "split season schedule"
-
Dr. Who won't be back at Christmas or are they just doing an Christmas Special?
The Christmas Specials were some of my favorites. -

You are in for a real treat at the end of episode 3. A real wow moment, followed by a pause, then an even wower moment. (Yes, I said wower. So shoot me)
-
It's interesting to look at how a series feels with only a handful of episodes a year. US shows produce twice as many hours per year, but no matter how good the premise of a series is, I find that creatively they always seem blur into a mush midway through the year. The new Who has had extremes of good and bad quality all over the map, but the standout episodes really get a chance to shine. Absence makes the heart grow fonder and new episodes really feel like *events* - they can swing for the fences on every pitch.
-
freeways or highways. I would like to put my hand up and say I think this is a good idea. The biggest problem with the most recent series (5) was that the episodes in the middle seemed to just be hanging around- waiting for the build up to the excellent finale. Vampires of Venice? Hungry Earth/Cold Blood? Moffat had a clear series arc which was actually very cool, and he dealt with the crack in time very early really, especially with The Time of Angels/Flesh & Stone (and at the end of Cold Blood). But this meant that we all knew it was leading up to something... and it was just a question of watching Amy and the Doctor ponse about for a few episodes until The Big Bang got things going again. Hopefully this time, because of the 'two finale' approach, there won't be a wasted episode and we'll all be strapped to our seats for each story instead of every alternate one!
-
over here. Thats why we don't call them seasons, because they barely last 2 months. The 13 episode thing is only reserved for Who and a few other things, I guess to make them easier to sell to the international market. The main reason we do less episodes over here though is that we just don't have the money to make 20 eps a year unless its got the word 'Holby' in the title.
-
especially with t'internet etc, keeping end of season secrets etc is a real bind, plus stretching an arc out over 13 weeks can be a bit much. So, two shorter series makes sense, autumn ratings are always higher in the UK, plus WHO plays better when it's dark outside. All for it.

SERIES FIVE WAS A FUCKING DISASTER!!!FACT!!!
by creationisttechnophobicmaniacs
I was stoked that Moffatt was taking over as he was the shows best writer and pissed that he hired Matt Smith. Ironically, Smith ended up being te best thing about series five while Moffatt shit the fucking bed with that horrible series. Not ONE single good episode let alone any great ones. Karen Gillan was fucking useless and that annoying CUNT that played Rorey dragged everything down anytime he showed his fucking face. I'll stick to re-watching series 1-4 of NuWho because that was some fucking fantastic television.
-
Old Dr. Who fan here. But I love the new series. Tennant won me over. I'm not so sure about Smith..but I like Amy and Rory. The break up of the series seems weird...and does that mean BBC America won't get this until the summertime, or later? That won't make me too happy.
Really the break up of the series like that seems a bit...Ood, don't you think? -
last season was the best season of Who I can ever remember seeing. Highlights of the season were The Eleventh Hour, Vincent, The Lodger, Amys Choice, The Pandorica Opens, and I personally loved the Silurian two parter. Even the Weeping Angels two parter had some lovely moments in it.
I can't wait for the Christmas special. -
Wow dude, don't feel like you have to hold anything back!
-
She ADORED Tennant, and is pretty keen on Smith.
She EVEN watches OLD Doctors with me, any from 1-8 suit her Ok. I thought she'd end up hating me AND Doctor Who forever with that name, but she is the biggest fan of the "new series" out there. -
BBC doesn't even show commercials. Except for hyping their own shows. Everybody who owns a television is legally obliged to pay the BBC ÂŁ145.50 a year, unless they're watching in black and white, which is ÂŁ49. Mysteriously, BBC drama is shit and nothing like as strong as HBO. Instead, they spend the money on overpriced comedians to host chat shows and singing competitions that the tabloids can gossip about, and wall to wall lifestyle programs during the day time, which seem to exist as a government propaganda tool to make everybody think the Breakfast news readers are like mum and dad and everybody has to work 9-5 to pay for gardening tools and DIY and get on the property ladder and go to antique auction houses with their grandparents. The BBC hasn't produced a passable sitcom for roughly twenty years. Or so it seems.

Matt still missing something, but still be tter then most Doctor
by shutupfanboy
Tennant is going to be my Doctor probably forever, so I am biased. Yet, Matt got some great scripts to work with and for his credit held his own. Yet, I still think he needs a scene or something to make him. Tennant had the first episode where he gets his cut off, out right kills the big bad and crumbles the current PM's administration in a span of ten minutes. Matt needs a scene like that, he came close in the first episode of telling off the aliens with the Doctor montage, but he needs a scene where you think "Shit, I wouldn't fuck with him." Most if not all the Doctors have that scene, he hasn't had it. Hopefully they did this season. As for big bad, I expect the Dreamlord to be the evil future Doctor.
-
Have not given the new show a watch yet, is it worthwhile
-
I did acknowledge in my first sentence that they might not have them for bbc... And ratings play a role in every shows fate and scheduling,, not just the ones with ads...
-
which threaten you the government is going to come and fuck you up if you don't pay your ÂŁ145.50 to the BBC. Those go out on ITV and Channel 4. Try to imagine a McCarthyite style of an impending lynching, with extra paranoia. Meanwhile, on the Beeb, mummy and daddy are cracking jokes with the weather man and cuddly celebrities, wearing colourful sweaters and smiling on a comfy looking sofa.
-
It's sort of a play of the week, every night, with cardboard cutout stereotypes. Everybody is either cheerful and dirt poor, or a gangster, who gets their comeupance when somebody burns down the pub. Again. It doesn't have any need to reflect real life, because the expectation is that kids will watch it and then behave like that in real life anyway. As a result, nobody minds that their kids are pregnant and on drugs and mugging old ladies with a cheeky cockney accent, even though they're upper middle class.
-
Maybe? He can say he's already done three seasons by the end of next year.
-
I don't want shocking cliffhangers. The best episodes were the ones that didn't change much, that were just light fun.
Rossacks - We can see Eastenders. Usually on PBS stations. I wouldn't go so far as to say we "get" it. :) -
I haven't watched the new Sherlock series either. I doubt it's much good when the clip I saw gets the key line wrong, saying the "game is on". The game is afoot meant the criminal was on the run, like a hunter after game, the game was "afoot" running away. It's not meant to be game like a game you play, but that's how the series stupidly uses it. But I liked Moffat's coupling and new Who so might give it a shot.
-
Jesus! We're back here looooong before I thought we would be! I greet this news with nothing short of excitement! Loved season 5, and think that Matt Smith is very good and can only get better! Creationist- entitled to your opinion you most certainly are, but I'm afraid most here don't share your views. Moff did us proud, with the exception of the Victory of the Daleks Mark Gatiss penned episode. Gatiss has done much better writing Sherlock, which I advocate anyone who hasn't seen it to check out! He should stick to that and playing Mycroft. As for the two new seasons, rthe only thing that has the potential to piss me off no end is the DVD releases, and the no doubt hefty price tag attached to each "season"- which with half th episodes will cost approx the same as the full 13 editions! As for the cliffhanger- any ideas? I am still gunning for Valeyard vs Doctor, with the potential death of Amy Pond.......
-
No spoilers intnded, but if you watch Sherlock you will get the gist of the character, and the "game is on..." will make alot more sense. Give it half an hour or so to develop, and then just enjoy!
-
How are you doing, buddy????? Hope you are very well!!!!
-
Just read this on another site and thought I would share it with you regarding the Christmas specialThe Daily Star has reported that the villain for the christmas special has been confirmed by the BBC to be a CGI "Flying Shark". [38] This looks more positive now filming pictures have emerged from filming showing a door with a bite mark in [39] and a model sculpture of what appears to be a CGI Shark's head [40]. Erm, exactly how this will fit into the Dickens themed Christmas Carol episode mooted with Michael Gambon remains to be seen! Oh, and what about the Yeti?
-
I kind of like the idea of splitting the series.... waiting months and MONTHS for new episodes of The Doctor can suck harder than a hooker in a mining camp on payday! So I guess I'm in the 'For It' camp! I loved Matt as the Doctor! Really enjoyed most of last season! And PLEASE check out Sherlock! I dug the hell out of it, too! I'm still recoevring from a craaaaazy weekend at Fan Expo in Toronto where I got to meet Adam West, Felicia Day and a bunch of other cool celebs and comic artists and personalities... but I DID pick up my very own Eleventh Doctor's SONIC SCREWDRIVER. Was an amazing weekend - if not a little poorly managed crowd-wise. Did any of my other Canadian friends go?
-
The Doctor will be fine as long as he doesn't jump it! (insert drum rimshot here)
-
although I know a steadfast bunch have been keeping some of the series 5 ones going. Kinda related... was just about to turn Coronation Street off when it came on (as I always rush to do) when I saw the name of the director of this weeks episode..... Graeme Harper Doing Coronation Street? From CGI laden dalek invasions of Earth to... Coronation Street?? Whats that all about??
-
And I say that in my best Marvin the Paranoid Android voice.
-
As one of the aforementioned 'steadfast bunch' it's GREAT to have a new 'Docback' - as we've dubbed it. Christmas can't come fast enough!
-
They don't have a pretense of "season X and season Y" but this is how they do it, and when the break isn't too long, it works well. Burn Notice, The Closer, Royal Pains, White Collar, they pull this off pretty well; Venture Bros, Metalocalypse, these shows suffer horribly for it because Adult Swim makes the breaks too long and the shortened half-seasons don't build enough momentum to carry nearly a year of anticipation. So, if they stick to their guns here and keep the break short, I can accept it.
-
Probably not. I remember when TNG did that shit, I was around 12 and it was the hardest summer of my fucking life waiting for the answers. I don't know if Doctor Who can pull that off only because nothing ever feels that dire "or even permanent" with the good Doctor. I did want to find out how "The Pandorica Opens" pretty badly, but then the end result was satisfying only because I didn't have to wait another 3 months for it and ruminate over it only to have the Doctor magically free himself 10 seconds into the goddamned episode.

The toblerone is a'chillin in the fridge, baby!!!!! How are you doing????? Good to be back here Doctorin the house....(poor pun!)
-
All's good mate. Nice to see the faithful coming out ALREADY in anticipation for a Saturday night in with a toblerone and the good Doctor. I wonder if any of you guys have seen this trailer for the Christmas special... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qWT0PE9Yr3g Shhhh, don't tell anyone, but it's fan made!
-
You remembered the Toblerone!? Oh, god, am I embarrassed! *LOL*
-
It's a VERY good show, you should definitely check it out. And they didn't mess up the line. The whole point is to have a sort of "modernization" of the world of Sherlock Holmes, but honestly it plays pretty close to the Conan Doyle novels. The acting is phenomenal, too!
(Apologies in advance to shibley for my z's!) -
But why call them separate series?
By the way, someone had mentioned $50 for 13 episodes, but that's not entirely accurate, as I believe it also includes all of the Confidentials, as well (which are a lot of fun). -
Hopefully not for a long while yet, because Matt Smith is superb as the Eleventh Doctor, but Cumberbatch would be stellar in the role whenever Smith chooses to leave.

Where's Spud McSpud???????????????? It ain't a Doctor Who Talkback without him. No offense, Seph_J, sam jacksons wig, ThrowMeTheIdol, V'Shael, and the the rest of you all.
-
"although I know a steadfast bunch have been keeping some of the series 5 ones going."We are celebrity! ;) See you on the other side Frozen!
-
show, one thing I liked in the first episode was the way the 出租车司机 (google translate if you don't want it spoiled!) was important, as it was in Doyle's Study in Scarlet, only in a different way. Nicely done. And frozen01, I can't watch DW now without a toblerone! Isn't that weird!
-
I see where we rate with you ;)
-
I don't suppose I mind it being split up, just as long as the high standards remain and we don't get less than 13 episodes altogether. Heavens know what Moff has in store for that cliffhanger, but I bet he won't let us all down! By the way, may I say how nice it is to see such friendly talkbackers and luckily for me, it's on a Doctor Who thread! Keep it up ladies and gents.
-
He said he would like to do roughly 3 seasons.
-
ive never been called steadfast before......thanx :)
Frozen has a similar issue with Jammy Dodgers! Great pics btw Pogue!!!!!! AND you met Frozen!!!!!Jealous! ;)
-
Aug 30, 2010 3:53:04 PM CDT
As for the split series, season, whatever it is.................
by axcel1
I think it's good and bad, but, a Doctor Who series (season) is usually 13 episodes and a Christmas episode, making it 14 a year, so, will we get 7 episodes in the spring and 7 in the fall? I hope we don't lose the Christmas episode next year.
-
Weird? Hell, no, that's brilliant! *LOL*
I was particularly tickled by the inclusion of the "pips" in the third ep. Screw it, the whole thing is just awesome :) I think I could even say *looks around to see if anyone is listening* I might actually be anticipating new episodes of Sherlock more than Doctor Who! -
Cumberbatch would make a fine Doctor, although some might feel his Holmes is a little too Doctor-esque already. He certainly has a 'human but a bit alien looking' quality that Matt Smith also shares, so I'd definitely like to see him get the role some day.
-
Well hello!!!!! How was a summer putting up with that tosser Michael Bay blowing up half of Chicago???? Seph, good to know everythings alright! One question- when can we expect HornOrSilk??????? WE MUST KNOW!!!!

I meant the above post as a joke, sorry, I should have added "LOL" on the post.
-
That's treason, that is! Send her to the discombobulator!
-
I hear you have a fondness for jammy dodgers. We'll save details about that for the dark evenings next autumn. And don't let me ever catch you blaspheme like that again! Sherlock Holmes over the Doctor indeed... I just don't know!
-
It seems whenever I speak of you *poof* you appear! ;)
Re Jammie Dodgers: Yes, yes, yes... except that particular obsession is all day every day, not just during episodes of Doctor Who ;) But leave me and my Jammie Dodgers alone. I frickin' love those things! It's nice that I've finally found a local (ish) distributor... I might actually begin sharing them with people and spread the insanity ;)
And Dave met me? Woah, how drunk was I? ;) -
DO NOT BLASPHEME!
DO NOT BLASPHEME! -
BBC ARE DENYING ALL SMITH LEAVING RUMOURS, and the talk is tht he will stick around until 2013 and the 50th anniversary. ASfter that it's anyones guess. shibleybc!!! YAY! Another faithful returns to the fold! Good to hear from you!

Where's our Fearless Leader????? frozen01 and shibleybc know who I mean.
-
What gives?????? Spud? Awwwww, fudge....
-
I'm sure I'll change my mind once we get the first new episode of Doctor Who ;)
Cumberbatch is doing Holmes perfectly. I've only read about half of the novels, but the characterization seems spot on to me. Perhaps the Doctor has just been too Holmes-esque? ;) -
No Martin Freeman love????? Come on- forgive him for "Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" people!!!!!
-
Sometimes living in the suburbs has its upside! :)
I tend to take the El around the city so I have not seen any of the filming nor been inconvenienced by it in my travels, but damn am I sick of hearing about it! -
Leni Riefenstal collection. Boy, we give him a hard time.
-
...or so the word goes. That blows out the voice in the Tardis as Davros, which would have been rather "unspecial" anyway......
-
Not as hard as we could give him! ;)
-
I did say the acting is phenomenal, and I don't just mean Cumberbatch! Watson's exasperation over Holmes' antics is especially wonderful :)
-
Not as much as I am sick of hearing about it on this fucking site!!!! Just wish the bastad blew himself up during the process. How is life in the cubicle??????
-
Sherlock, does anyone else find themselves expecting Mycroft to, for no reason at all claim how YOUNG he looks and suddenly transform into a hideous beast?
-
Oh the third episode cliff hanger!!!!! I actually screamed "You fucking bastards!!!" at the TV because of that! And only three episodes???? What gives??????? MORE PLEASE!!!!!
-
*LOL* Nice :)
My moods change with the wind... I'm sure in a few weeks you'll bump into me here and I'll be all "Screw Sherlock! Gimme more Doctor!" *LOL* -
OH GOD please don't remind me of that episode!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I still expect to find the corpse of that old bird from Coronation Street in the back of his car....."Now what the fuck is SHE still doing here??????"
-
Well considering it's the supposed jewel in the BBC's crown they don't seem
to know what to do with it. -
...Sherlock Holmes, isn't he? My missus is busy reading the original Sherlock books on her iPhone at the minute, so I might check them out after I finish 'The Writer's Tale' by Russell T Davies.
-
Well, I don't actually read any articles on here except the ones about Doctor Who and Sherlock ;) (Just kidding!) Life in the cubicle is... well, cleaner, I guess. I got bored. Oh, I've got an Ironside Dalek poster up now, and a little TARDIS air freshener! :)
Yeah, the cliffhanger, ooooooooh. I think I just said "What?!" for about 20 minutes! *LOL* -
...fuck me, it's still magic!
-
As much as I disliked the Hollywood version of Hitchhikers, which quite frankly was never going to be anywhere near as good as the original BBC radio/tv versions, I don't think we can blame the lovely Mr Freeman for it's crapness, can we? He's pretty great in anything he does, and I was cock-a-hoop when I heard he was doing Sherlock with Moff. Great piece of casting!
-
I have a bathroom rug made out of Matt Smiths hair!!!!! BEAT THAT, MMMWWWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
-
those seamed stockings and short skirt she wore in the first episode. I jerked myself into a state of dehydration watching that one.
-
Oops, I missed you :)
I knew you were joking, hun! Oh, you east coasters, I swear... ;) -
Nice to hear from you!!! No, Freeman wasn't the worst of the bunch- Alan Rickman was piss poor, John Malkovich was dire and Sam Rockwell just stank( unusual for him!!!). Don't get me started on Mos Def as I will be here all evening.......
-
About the Rathbone boxset, it's fucking ace, isn't it? I just watched The Hound Of The Baskervilles the other night, and enjoyed the hell out of it (as Harry would say).
-
Shaun of the Dead. Classic.
-
I want MattDoc to materialise in Leadworth and whisk Mrs Angelo back to wartorn London, introduce her to Dr Constantine and then leave them both in 1990's suburban England where Dr Constantine is forced to get a job as a security guard. I think the consequences would be hilarious.
-
I agree with you 100% on that. What the hell were they thinking? And Rockwell usually does much better movies than that. I should watch 'Moon' to cleanse my mind (plus it has the brilliance of Matt Berry too!)
-
Best role? The Office..... hated the programme, but loved his part! Watched the entire boxset over 2 days- just ace! I can remember watching them as a kid and they haven't lost any of their magic! On a completely unrelated note, saw A Serbian Film uncut, and for the first time ever threw up thanks to a movie. Fucking disgusting shit- AVOID at all costs!
-
Can't wait to see it.
-
MattDoc turns up just as Michael Bays mum and dad are about to conceive him and puts a complete stop to it before destroying all prints of Transformers 2. Just pure bliss.....
-
A... bathMatt, perhaps? ;)
-
declares him king of everything.
-
Imminently so I understand. Well worth a purchase.
-
YES. Except this needs to happen in real life, not just a DW script.
-
how about.... a nice new tempur MATTress?!
-
And a codpiece made out of David Tennants converse......
-
I actually bought it a couple of weeks back and am looking forward to getting started as soon as the weather turns crappy.... but I was reading the notes inside and it looks like Moriarty is played by about 27 different people... is that annoying, or does it add to his... chameleonismishness?
-
.... I am plotting tht bastard Bays doom as I type. It involves Kelly Brooks bra, a copy of Balamory on DVD and an industrial sized vat of rat semen.....
-
Best Doctor Who one-liner ever!!
-
There are many recurring actors in the boxset/movies, each of them playing multiple parts. It doesn't detract much but if you watch them as I did one after the other it kind of gets confusing, not annoying. Great entertainment value though!
-
And those skimpy seasons will both package as DVD season sets, at still only about $50-60 each.
-
Wouldn't you like to know? God, I still have that tune in my head from watching it with my two nieces back in England. ARGH!
-
moors and came out with that Balamory gem, boy did I laugh.

"Got" all the rathbone movies the other night and they are bloody great!!!!!!!Watched them as a youth on BBC2 when they used to air in the UK at 6pm, used to rush home from my paper round for them, brilliant!
-
Long time no see!
-
What do you mean by *poof*? ;)
-
Only 9 more minutes and I am FREEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
-
I mean eat some jelly ;)
-
I used to watch them on the same slot on BBC2 as well! I'm a child of the 70's/80's so they came around at the perfect time for me to sit and watch.
-
How is it going??? trust you are all fine and dandy! I remember watching Rathbone on a Saturday morning also on BBC2 when they used to run their Matinee movies!!! Those were the days- no fucking mortgage!!!
-
beware big Bay 'splosions!
-
...i'll say that Matt Smith is probably my favorite Doctor I've ever seen. Through the Eccleston and Tennant stuff, I popped in and caught an episode every here and there. I gave Matt Smith the same shake, and I'll be damned if I didn't end up watching the entire season. Really fantastic stuff.
Really loved the ending of the Van Gogh episode, and all the rapid fire time jumping the Doctor did in the finale. Excellent uses of the time travel conceits. -

Didn't like "The Americanization Of The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy". Hey, Hollywood can't hit it out of the park every time. I saw it, I don't like or dislike it, it was just there.
-
Great to see so many friends back in action! Where IS our fearless leader?!? I miss him already!!! And shibley! Alas, I didn't actually MEET the lovely Renee - I just tagged her in the Steampunk pics so she could find and admire them. Much like I tagged you in the Doctor Pic. LordPorkington ... I picked up 'The Writer's Tale' on the weekend and am about 70 pages in. It's quite brilliant, actually. Every WHO fan should give it a gander. And I scored it for only $10 at Fan Expo in Toronto! Jammie Dodgers are delicious. You all should watch Sherlock!
-
doesn't refer to HornOrSilk otherwise I'd be worried.
-
LOL Damn you sir i was about to offer a duel! :)
Sam, Bet you used to watch Flash Gorden Serials and Champion the wonderhorse too! ;)
-
Why that's none other than the most awesome gotlik! HornOrSilk shall be gently yet firmly not paid a whole lot of attention to. But in a polite way... which is the way of our esteemed 'Dockbackers'
-
Pulled a shit shift tomorrow and need to catch some serious sleep! Take care all! Axcel- oh it stank my friend! Sorry, but it just frigging stank! Thank god they ddn't make the mooted sequel.....I would rather watch Serbian Film again and I can't see that happening any time soon!!!!!
-
I meant 'Docbackers'... I just type too quickly sometimes!
-
catch ya later
-
Like the Doc, if we get everyone to think his name at the same time........Could he reappear?I remember you Gotlik and you are late for my .........Bedtime! ;)
-
Sleep tight! (It's only just after 6pm where I am so it seems weird to say that!)
-
Not THAT old- how very dare you, sir!!!! ;) But I can confess to watching them both on re-runs along with the Lone Ranger! Now I have to get to bed, I have a warm duvet and a cold woman waiting for me!
-
Already, shibley? I suppose it IS after 11pm there.
-
Warm duvet and cold woman... bwahahahahaha.... I warm my inflate-a-date with a hairdryer before we play.
-
I made that last part up.
-
night all
-
Not quite! Wouldnt miss this "reunion"! :) This is cool!
-
... to all my Europals! Seph... shibley et al. We will try and keep the interweb alive from across the water in the colonies. Sweet dreams one and all. Boing.
-
It's frigging 11.15pm here and I have been up since 4am and have to get back up at 4.30am tomorrow to drive 210 miles for a conference which finishes at 12pm, and then a drive back to finish up surgery until 6.30pm. Pisser......now for sleep!!!!
-
:) :) :) :)
-
i had no idea the dr who people were involved. had i known i wouldnt have bothered.
-
Sorry! :)
-
were you driving from/too
-
Oh.
Nice to see you all!! I'm all over this idea - splitting WHO means more WHO throughout the year, which means no more horrendously long wait from June to the following April for more serialised WHO! hoping they keep the WHO Christmas specials as Christmassy as they have been - it's the highlight of my Christmas viewing (well, was until THE END OF TIME Pt 1)!!
Hoping they make WHO even better with this idea. But none of this Season 6 and 7 bollocks... just call it what it is: Season 6 parts 1 and 2.
Hope you enjoy the Christmas special, axcel1 - I already know you will!!! -
What "Bank Holiday" did you have? Our next (US) "Bank Holiday" is Labor Day.
-
Good to see you again, my friend! Sammy's Wig... wasnt dissin' ya for headin' to bed! LOL... that DOES sound like a horrendously long day! I'd be off for my kip as well! shibley.... I've been watching 'The Hand of Fear'... getting my Tom Baker fix in! I have one episode left to go and then it's 'The Deadly Assassin'!
-
Day off for everyone to enjoy the sun and head to the beach! Bet you regret July 4th now!
-
I just started the last chapter of 'The Writer's Tale' last night and I also really enjoyed it. Davies was quite frank about his homosexuality, but he was also amusing with it too. I loved the fact that all of the top secret Matt Smith stuff that was mentioned near the end of the book is public knowledge now! We actually know what Matt's first words were!
-
...I had the same problem I had with INCEPTION - a thoroughly enjoyable piece of entertainment, but people are talking about it like it's the Second Coming of Popular Entertainment or something - and it ain't. Some critic from The Times nailed what SHERLOCK was in my opinion - he called it "a thick person's idea of what a smart show would be". SHERLOCK really wasn't all THAT intelligent, and ever since his writing in this season of WHO and SHERLOCK, I'm waiting for Moffat to write an episode of either series where the hero isn't an insufferably smug twat who treats everyone around him that he considers to be less intelligent (which in both cases is EVERYONE) with unveiled contempt. Smart-arse twats with no discernible vulnerabilities wear very thin very quickly - and if the Moff doesn't get some real jeopardy into these series very quickly, I'm gonna get really bored with them both. Matt Smith is fucking AWESOME, but every Moffat episode he's in has him just talking his way out of everything, explaining that he's smarter than everybody else but not actually DOING anything that smart, and having no weaknesses at all - hell, in the season finale, did anyone doubt that the Doctor would escape, or that the Great Big Threatening Reset Button would be pushed?? No. No, we didn't. And THAT is Moffat's biggest problem as a writer. He's fucking ridiculously predictable. BLINK is looking more and more like an anomaly every day.
SHERLOCK is very slick, very well shot, but the stories are too simplistic, very basic, and not remotely as intelligent as it thinks it is. And Martin Freeman is our very own Michael Cera - he's only capable of palying himself in every role he plays. His Watson is "Martin Freeman frowning and being snappy a lot". Massively over-rated.
It's okay viewing - but guys, don't expect the re-invention of TV drama. I enjoyed YOUNG SHERLOCK HOLMES AND THE PYRAMID OF FEAR a lot more when I caught it last week on TV... That's my stance on SHERLOCK. Slick, but not game-changingly awesome. Like LUTHER - another massively over-rated recent BBC series... -
And one of the few companionless episodes of the entire run of the show. Great episode indeed. Have you seen it before Pogue?
-
was actually, incredibly simple... with so much bollocks about bodies falling off trains and other stupid stuff like that, that it seemed impossibly complicated! enjoyable show though. Would certainly watch more. And don't get me started on Inception... I've suffered enough abuse for being one of the many to demand an explanation from Harry as to why his review was so lacklustre. I'm just really grateful that films like Inception get made.
-
Enjoy "assassin" its a winner and caused quite a stir on broadcast!Even Tom Baker stopped during a car journey to knock at a strangers door to watch the ep that i will not mention till youve watched it! :)
-
Not that I ever really thought of it as any kind of second coming but as a casual viewer I very much enjoyed it. It's head and shoulders above most North American TV - I watch very little tv to be honest... not current stuff, anyway. But it was quite entertaining. I still have to watch the third episode and am looking forward to the big cliff hanger... so NO SPOILERS, Chums!

by axcel1
Thank GOD, you're back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And, yes, yes, I already know I will. I hope the Yeti return in it. And, yes, you are right, call what it is, series (season) 6 part 1 and part 2. And, while I hate the split seasons on the cable shows here in the US, for some reason, I'm starting to like the Doctor Who series split.
-
NO! This will be my first viewing so no spoilers on that either, please and thanks! I'm especcially looking forward to watching it based on the opinions of friends and all of you, of course. 'The Mask of Madragora' I just watched two weeks ago and really dug it for it's lovely setting and costumes. The Beeb can certainly do costume and period pieces very well, can't they!?
-
As much as I LOVED the show "smart" and "complicated" were not words that came to mind. I like them for what they are... well-acted, funny, interesting, dramatic odes to Conan Doyle.
-
turns out... Watson is behind it all. I'm kidding, he he he. Or am I? ha nah, I'm kidding...... ?
-
If Matt Smith knocked on my door and was all "Mind if I pop in to share a Jammy Dodger and watch some telly with you?'
I'd shit myself. -
I'm with axcel1... I, too, think the split series is not a terrible idea. Less of a wait between - this wait til Christmas is killing me.
-
I'm off to get my stew on the table. I'm famished.
-
Oh, that was YOU! sorry, I was checking FB on iPhone and I a) couldn't figure out which event it was and b) didn't know who was tagging all those photos! The iPhone FB app kinda sucks...
By the way, I only got notifications when someone commented on a "tagged" photo... so I think I probably missed some :\ -
Nice to see you too, dude!!
Porkington is right - THE WRITER'S TALE is a great read, particularly for how well it puts you into the perspective of the Rusty as he wrote WHO. While I love some of what he did (his Daleks were the best design in decades, while Moffat's fucking iDaleks couldn't have looked worse), the preachy aspects of his writing did grate - and this book damn near explains ALL of his reasons for this. He even admits to wanting to make characters gay for no reason other than to have gay characters be in every episode - which many of us viewed as a writing fault (placing his box-ticking PC desire for representation above the needs of the narrative), but which he makes no explanations or apologies for.
BUT...
I actually really admire RTD for having the balls to unapologetically explain why he wrote the way he did. Do I agree with it? Hell no - I think he hindered himself every possible way he could with this PC agenda way of writing, but he does admit to it, and he has his reasons for it, even if he is too blinded to admit where it weakens his plots, and is absolutely blinkered to the idea that his Deus Ex Machina endings are in any way bad writing (when you only have to watch LAST OF THE TIME LORDS twice to see how badly wrong an RTD finale can truly go). But hell, I REALLY miss his attention to detail re the Companion's families (Amy's mum has the same smugly-superior intelligent turn of phrase that Moffat gives ALL his characters - "Your father made breakfast, so feel free to toos it out the window if it's an atrocity" is just as precious and over-written as "sad is happy for deep people" or "Hello, I'm the Doctor. Basically - Run". HORRIBLY self-indulgent bollocks, Moff), and one clear advantage RTD's writing has over the Moff's is that emotional resonance with characters who AREN'T the Doctor, which were clearly the highlight's of RTD's run. Rose's family were a sheer delight for me, and Mickey is infinitely preferable to that blithering Richard Curtis Hugh Grant-movie reject character Rory.
So - THE WRITER'S TALE actually made me respect the Rusty more than I did. Who'd a-thunk it?? A thumping good read all round... -

Go back and look at the whole album on your home comp now that you have returned from toiling at work... There's a bunch of steampunk stuff I tagged for you... some lovely costumes. the whole photo album is pretty fun, actually.

...But it's nice to be back, Who-backers. Hope to be back in the morrow, or at least later on this week. Keep the WHO flag flying!!
-
I think it's utter candor is what I'm enjoying most about it so far...
-
Lovely to meet you all again! :)
-
It's fun seeing how things were altered and changed in the writing and rewriting... from characters to plot etc. As a real fan it's a great read so far just for those fun wee bits.

Night shibs

That's just one series/season with a long break in the middle. Stargate does it all the time.

The UK has beaches and, and, can see the Sun!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wow, just, wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's pretty much what I'm taking away from The Writer's Tale too. I certainly view his time on the show differently after reading it, and whilst I still can't forgive him for farting aliens, I now appreciate the amount of hard work he put into bringing the show back and keeping it on the air. I hope Benjamino (Russell's nickname for the co-author) is currently having a similar email correspondence with The Moff for the latest series. It would be a great continuation of the story!
-
I was hoping you would stay on longer so I could use you as an excuse not to mow my lawn again ;)

Does it mean we are all looking forward to the new BBC/STARZ coproduction of series (season) 4 of Torchwood now?
-
A second Writer's Tale with Moff would be brilliant! And axcel... I thought 'Children of Earth' was bloody brilliant... fun... horrific... and affecting. I'm looking forward to seeing where Torchwood goes. Granted it's had extreme highs... and some pretty awful lows. I predict a bright future for it. Sometimes change is good!
-
I hate when series split the season in half just to extend the run further into the year. The Venture Bros. did that I'm too impatient to wait more than a week between episodes.
-
if you live in the south like me, or the south west there are plenty of beaches and July/August can be pretty sunny and lovely. with regards to the bank holiday.. it isn't a birthday or anything like that... I think (and I could be wrong) that it's simply one of three or four days a year that the banks were allowed to close. hows that for exciting.
-
The Brits go to bed and suddenly this place is a ghost town.
-
Pogue__Mahone, a fair opinion of "Torchwood", feel the same way, not perfect, but, I like the show and the characters.
Seph_J, thanks for the info, interesting, we don't have "Bank Holiday" in the US, just regular holidays. (Not trying to be funny.) -

I'm American...and ANY Doctor Who is better than MOST American fare any day of the week...
That being said...Eccleston was brilliant....the arc perfect...and Rose was better with Eccleston than with Tennant...the chemistry just wasn't there with Tennant.... -
Granted, I'm now living in Connecticut and it's only just gone 8pm, but that's a minor detail. And regarding beaches, I grew up in the North East of England, South Shields to be exact (birthplace of Ridley Scott, but he doesn't talk about it), near Newcastle, and I was at the beach nearly every week! Sure, it was bloody freezing most of the time, but Geordies are a hardy bunch, so I absolutely loved it...
-
It's when HornOrSilk looks in the mirror! (Insert rimshot here)
-
I just had my first Dr. Pepper in months. I forgot how much I loved it. Well... not totally unrelated. It was about a 'Dr.'....
-
in Orwell's '1984'... any facial expression that could give you away to the all powerful state, who use telescreens to watch people
-
Is also an awesome song by Blur... now I'm off to read for half an hour some more of my 'Writer's Tale' before Billy comes over to play some Tiger Woods on the PS3...
-
Eccleston was great. but, I LOVED LOVED LOVED the David Tennant
Doctor !!! & Matt Smith is hysterical ! =) if you haven't given new WHO a chance, do yourself a favor. it's a blast ! -
...he tends to regenerate a lot in a much shorter period of time than 900 years. Can we please find an actor who's willing to put in the time and doesn't just bail after a while?
-
I'm in London & it's 1.15AM So I stayed up later than all of you locals.I can handle the split I suppose,it is a shame to be indoors while the Sun is out even if it is Doctor Who time.I Want the Autumn Episodes to be scarier than the Spring/Summer ones, that would work, scare the kids, they will thank us for it one day :> :> :>
-
I heartily concur. I have introduced MANY of my circle of friends to NuWho and they LOVE it and are now digging deeper into Who mythology and watching older episodes from before the reboot. It's a rich universe with almost unlimited potential. Which makes me wonder... is anyone else okay if for a few seasons/series we don't see ANY old monsters or villains. No Daleks. No Cybermen or Silurians... OR is maybe a one story a season visit from an old foe a welcome occurance? And if so... new old villains - maybe the Ice Warriors? (YES PLEASE! - or just a solid Dalek story? What does everyone else think? I'm kinda leaning towards all new aliens and monsters and villains and stuff. As I said... a rich universe with a myriad of possibilities...
-
12 episodes is like half a season in the first place... that over two years? At this rate season 12 will be like half an episode every four years. But with HELLA cliffhangers! And WHERES CAPRICA
-
running the risk of a Slitheen, or an Absorbaloff...
I'd personally like to see the bubble-wrapped Wirrin back on the show, along with the incredibly well designed Candy Man. I'm joking, of course. Seriously, bring back Gough as the Toy Maker.. I know I've said it before.. but they should do it already before he dies. -
Excellent suggestion.... I'd like to see Smith match wits with a being of such power... like Picard going head to head with Q... but slightly madder... but a recast or Gough as the Celestial Toymaker... he is supposed to be immortal, after all... or that aging could play into the story, I suppose.
-
A Halloween episode of Doctor Who?!? Yum!
-
The Doctor Versu Freddy & Jason & Michael Myers... and his companion? Ash. But back in the time of Camelot. I'd call it 'The Medeival Dead'... anyone? Anyone?
-
during the 80s in the series-that-never-was, but as it was the series-that-never-was... the story never, errr was. They did Trial of a Timelord instead.
-
I like that title. Forget the rest... just a Halloween story set in Arthurian times... with maybe Morgan LaFey really being an alien or in possession of some alien artifact... and Excalibur is alien in origin, too...
-
"THERE WILL BE NO FIGHTING HERE TODAY!!!!!"
-
The Doctor travels to the island from LOST and mediates Jacob and the MiB's squabble by explaining that everyone has an equal right to self determination. The MiB is turned human again and is allowed to leave the island. No one else is pulled into their stupid petty feud.
I too was reminded of Doctor Who by the actor playing Sherlock. The show itself is essentially just the Sherlock Holmes mythos jammed into a procedural. It's like a British version of a non-medical much-less-philosophical House. I'm convinced the Watson limp in episode one was a nod to House. -
Of course. Silly Me.
-

Pogue__Mahone...................................................
by axcel1
No one, no one at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL
-
Sounds like a midseason break with a cliffhanger, like most SyFy shows.
-
would be great. They could then follow up every episode of NuWho with an episode of One Foot In The Grave. A marketing triumph!
-
are only signed for HALF of the next series? Matt and Karen have NOT been signed for the full series. I would like to see one of three things happen... the second half the series is Paul McGann, or a previous Doctor, or Matt Smith. In that order. :)
-
Not so sure those character would work very well in the Whoniverse ;) But I could see an Evil Dead/Doctor Who fanfic crossover goof-fest.
-
A regeneration MID SEASON WOULD be a game changer! I never even thought about that! Or the cliffhanger could be that they swap personalities like in 'Freaky friday'... or there's some sort of cosmic rift and the TARDIS bridge is suddenly staffed by McGann, Eccleston, Tennant and Smith. "What? WHAT!?" Tennant exclaims... and Smith rolls his eyes and under his breath mutters "Geronimo."
-
Aug 30, 2010 7:53:03 PM CDT
Wait, wait, how did we skim over this...........................
by axcel1
No Daleks in series (season) 6? Really? And everyone is ok with that?
-
Eccleston declares "Fantastic!!".... McGann just pats himself to make sure he's all intact... looks directly at the camera and says, "It's about TIME!" Slyly winks... then TO BE CONTINUED.... Dammit, Moffat! Let me write this thing!
-
very ok with it give them a break, bring them back when they have purpose and menace. And when they aren't designed so badly.
-
Pogue, thats so bad it's actually good! I can see it now.
-
I'm VERY okay with no Daleks for a while! Leave them off for a year ago and when they return - with a grand, threatening reason? Kids heads will explode! Let them percolate... hint at their return but over a few years. bring them back with a BANG!
-
Like Seph said, very okay with it. I'm a little sick of the Daleks to be honest.
-
Looks like you and I are on the EXACT same page tonight!
-
Michael Moorcock has written a Doctor Who novel which apparently features an incarnation of Jerry Cornelius.
-
I meant a year or so. Or more.
-
not bad considering its 2am which unfortunately means, I really am out. Keep this Docback going yeh? night all.
-
I didn't know who that was so I wiki'd... this is the first line! "Jerry Cornelius is a fictional secret agent and adventurer created by science fiction / fantasy author Michael Moorcock. Cornelius is a hipster of ambiguous and occasionally polymorphous sexuality." Sounds an awful lot like Capt. Jack Harkness to the uninitiated, like me!
-
And welcome aboard Or League Of Extraordinary Docbackers.... we love expanding our ranks!
-
We could call it a temporary reverse regeneration. Oh, the Dalek thing, we don't need them, I like this idea, wish it would happen.
-
We'll be here until Christmas or the next DW talkback they give us :)
-
Or we'll regenerate in an old one!
-

I'm beating a dead horse here with wanting the old Cybermen to return.

Just as long as they don't do the whole obnoxiously loud stomping thing. That was a bit silly.
-
Aug 30, 2010 8:35:29 PM CDT
Frozen Renee, the whole obnoxiously loud stomping thing,........
by axcel1
I liked it. It was their way of saying, here we come, walking down the street, getting funniest looks from, everyone we meet, hey, hey, we're the Cybermen, you can't say we're, well, you get the idea.
-
I'm not one of those grammar police types, Merrick, but that's just such an amazingly crafted piece of misspelling, that I'm frankly in envy of your drinks cabinet.
-
It used to give me headaches :o\
-
I've only managed to see 3 episodes (I'm abroad, so don't know how many there are) & it's been brilliant so far, but Moriarty was a massive let down for me!
Who decided that Sherlock's nemesis should be a little Irish fella with camp mannerisms? He's like Graham Norton. -
Aug 30, 2010 9:58:26 PM CDT
Ok, Frozen Renee................................................
by axcel1
I Hope there will be no more stomping, the old Cybermen never stomped. Good night, sleep tight.
-
There are only three episodes. There will be more next year.
I don't think we've really seen enough of Moriarty to get a grip on his characteristics quite yet. I think they're going for flippant mad genius, though. Like a cleverer and saner 80's Joker. And is the accent Irish? We were trying to figure that out the other day.
Where are you from, by the way? -
Still too early for me.
Speaking of which, where the hell is gotilk? Is he at the old TB, I wonder? -
No fearless leader.
-
I THINK he was Irish. Sounded sort of half American/English at first (he even said "can't" the English way once, then said it the other way a minute later), but I've got Irish family & some of his words sounded a bit similar to how they talk. Sort of slightly posh Irish.
-
Oh, good. So I don't hafta feel bad for not being able to figure it out :) I'll have to watch it again to catch what you're talking about.
My goodness, Japan! How exciting! -
They wouldn't if they saw me sitting at the pc in my boxer shorts, with the AC on, sweating in the summer heat.
On a side note, I'm gutted there are only 3 episodes so far. I watched all 3 in one day. Between that & waiting for DW, plus BSG gone & Syfy messing around with Caprica, there's nothing to watch. That Dioxholster guy can talk about Stargate all he wants, but I'd rather be waterboarded than watch an hour of Robert Carlyle standing around talking while his wonky gnashers slowly decay. -
Where are you? I hope all is well in sunny Californeye-yay!
-
WTF. I never saw BSG seasons 1-3 live, but I couldn't imagine doing so. It would kill to go from Adama getting shot to season 2 opener. Or the season 2 closer to Season 3 opener. This will kill me! But if it allows for more Sherlock as well then I'm all for it.
-
I kinda liked the Cyberman's unified stomp. It gave this feeling of an unrelenting, UNIFIED, singular mind barreling on and unstoppable.... in my head were images of German soldiers marching through France and Poland. I don't know what brought the WWII imagery into my head when I saw something so futuristic... it just had that vibe. Relentless. And unstoppable. Until they were stopped.
-
we'll find out what she means to the Doctor then. And we'll have to wait for all summer for a reaction.
-
like the fuck fest cliffhanger in S5's 2part pos finale.
-
Moffat had called it 'a game changer'... so it has to be something HUGE! I hope it has nothing to do with River or the Daleks or anything we've seen before... I want to be gobsmacked! I want to lean forward in my seat and go 'HOLY SHIT!'... I haven't done that in a LONG TIME! And I think Moffat has it in him to do that.
-
actually neither Doyle's original tales were that intelligent as mystery goes.In most cases they were too predictable from their start, and Holmes always seemed to me as someone like Monk (who apparently based on him and his mystery stories are also very simplsitic): Insanely observant and with an enormous array of knowledge, but his deductive skill was overrating: everyone could have solved his cases using common logic if he had all the facts before him, they were not that difficult.
Thats why i personally prefer Agatha's Poirot: He has to face more difficult cases with greater mystery, which contain a lot of trivial details seemingly unrelated between them, but at the end Poirot manages to masterly combine them into a bigger picture which perfectly explains the mystery and reveals the identity of the guilty one.
Poirot > Holmes for me,although i like Holmes more as a character rather than as a detective. (the guy is a junkie because of his boredom ffs) -
Sounds like a budget fallout due to a bad economy.
-
So great to get a Who Talkback WAY before anyone expected it.
-
calling for you!
-
Aug 31, 2010 3:32:01 AM CDT
Game changer - Imagine if they did like a "reverse" regeneration
by v'shael
and put Paul McGann back in the Tardis for a few episodes? The audience wouldn't know if it was permanent or not and it might be a handy way to get around the upcoming regeneration limit.
-
It's great to see all the usual suspects here. And as for the split I'm all for it. It will mean less of a wait between seasons and xmas specials. I'm expecting the mid-season cliffhanger to be momentous. And if season 6 and a half is shown September/October time then we may get a Halloween episode. So it's all good. And, lest we forget, we'll probably have Torchwood on in the summer to tide us over in-between.
-
first split season while suddenly Tennant or Eccleston appears in his Tardis and the episode ends exactly there.now that would have been a nice cliffhanger.
-
but i think the game changer has more to do with River's identity.who knows.maybe she is the Dr's 12th reincarnation? Dr regenerating into a woman, well that changes the established rules a lot and gives the chance to the series to explore new interesting takes on the Dr character.
-
My money is on a River Cliffhanger too!
-
Just a brief computer hiccup at just the wrong time. So I guess this is the new place? :)
-
if they actually signed Mz Kingston that far in advance just to pull a huge surprise for everyone in her future casting as The Doctor. The first female Doctor? The first Doctor to have ever done a nude scene? The first time anyone was cast this far in advance to serve a story?
-
Aug 31, 2010 6:43:58 AM CDT
Well, everyone is guessing what the "story arc" will be........
by axcel1
Some say early, temporary reverse regeneration, some say River Song storyline, I hope both will happen, but, I don't want River to be the next Doctor. Hey, she could be a Time Lord, who else could pilot a TARDIS like she can?
-
Aug 31, 2010 6:47:00 AM CDT
Oh, and, hey, MR Latefortheparty gotilk.........................
by axcel1
Everyone is gone and then you get here!! LOL
-
if River is a Time Lord, she's used the fob watch on herself. That would explain her death in Season 4.
-
Aug 31, 2010 6:59:15 AM CDT
I am wishing, praying that we do get............................
by axcel1
MCGann, Eccleston, or Tennant or all of the above!!!!! (No, they will save that for the 50th anniversary.)
-
her consciousness is still in the library.
-
Again... 'game changer' is the term used by Moffat. A game changer for The Doctor, Amy AND Rory. So while a multiple Doctor cliffhanger would be AWESOME it's nothing we haven't seen before! I know we've been told that we'll find out about who River is this next season but I hope we get something more than that. I genuinely do NOT want her to be a future incarnation of the Doctor... or anything at all that we've guessed. I think Moff has the chops to surprise us all. How about this? We know that the TARDIS is alive... has some sort of rudimentary consciousness... has been called 'old girl' by The Doctor.... River was 'taught' to 'fly' by the Doctor? River seems to have a VERY close relationship with the Doctor? How's this for a game changer for our intrepid travellers in time and space?! They lose that ability because they LOSE THE TARDIS!!! Because SOMEHOW the TARDIS is given a human form... THE TARDIS IS RIVER SONG!!! THAT'S why she knows so much about her 'sweetie'... no marriage or anything like that... she's just been his longest travelling companion EVER! Chew on that, kids. You heard it hear first! I think Moff has the mad skills and the sheer gonads to do something THAT insane.
-
It also has a familiar shape and hue... maybe lending credence to my mad theory?
-
Glad to see you back. We all missed you like the deserts miss the rain.
-
sounds so crazy it might work
-
you really have to get over the fact that they're gone, and outside of a possible 50th anniversary episode, Tennant is not coming back. (Eccleston never will, in my opinion.)Matt Smith on the other hand... I wish he'd stay on for more years than Tom Baker ever did. The kid is brilliant.
-
For those who were playing/downloading/viewing the Doctor Who games, the third one "TARDIS" is now online, and the walkthroughs are on Youtube so you can sort of see it as an episode.A couple of points : Despite what was claimed by the BBC and some of the Doctor Who crew, the games are not "canon". Either Amy doesn't know what a cyberman is in The Pandorica Opens, or she doesn't know what a cyberman is in The Blood of the Cybermen. She can't claim that same ignorance twice.Second, this game is much shorter than the other two, with less puzzles and less environments. All in all, a bit disappointing really.
-
Aug 31, 2010 9:06:07 AM CDT
V'Shael, I think you're right...................................
by axcel1
I don't we'll see either one of them until the 50th anniversary episode. (As for Eccleston never coming back, as the saying goes, where there's life, there's hope.)
-
BUT... McGann , last I heard, was essentially just still "waiting for a call". So... GET TO IT! Find a way to work him in. He was brilliant in spite of the goofiness (The master) of the movie.
-
missed you and everyone as well. I was only gone for about 12 hours though. It felt like days!!
-
I guess this is the new place for now, eh?
-
Not the same without her.
-
I need to read through all of this now. So great to see everyone back.
-
There were only three things I didn't like about the movie.1) The Master on Skaro set up made NO sense at all. 2) The half-human Doctor made NO sense either.3) Eric Roberts was a terrible casting choice.I am pretty much okay with everything else, even the Eye Of Harmony being in the TARDIS. (I can mentally rewrite that line or two when watching the scene). Paul McGann was a brilliant choice though. Great actor, great costume, wonderful energy.
-
That is a spot-on interpretation of Conan Doyle's books. I always enjoyed the characters and such, but the stories weren't particularly clever or convoluted. Have you noticed, though, that this seems to be the point? Many interpretations have gone out of their way to point out that the answer would be completely obvious to anyone in possession of the facts (I can't remember if Conan Doyle's writings did as well, though). It seems to take the mystery out of mystery, if you will, to show that even the most bizarre things tend to have relatively simple, normal causes once you can see them.
-
*waves* Hi! :)
Sorry, I've been crashing early. Still recovering from the Ball on Thursday! I will never stay up until 6am, wake up at 8am, and then go antiquing again ;) -
I have a geeky fondness for the TV movie, but honestly if it hadn't been for McGann, I probably would've hated it. Eric Roberts was horrible, nearly everything they did with the Master was godawful, the first half of the story was cliched and overdone (gangs in Chinatown, really?), and I didn't particularly like the Companion (gee, another blonde feisty sidekick, like every other movie or TV show made in the 90s!) But McGann was stunning, and I really, REALLY hope he gets to come back at some point. I'm telling ya, Time War nu-Who prequel!!!!!!!!!
-
Yes, but now that you've given us this TARDIS theory, Moff can't use it ;)
-
Rosasaks I don't quite understand your comments on the output of the BBC. I admit there has been some shit (Robin Hood, Merlin esp) but when the beeb does drama right it really does it right. Life on Mars, Ashes to Ashes, Who, Sherlock, Torchwood, Being Human to name but a few are all fucking brilliant and easily match what has been coming out of the States recently. I admit that producers over here have been massively influenced by the likes of HBO et al but at least they've looked at what works at gone with it. Also the sport output of the BBC is far superior (in terms of quality rather than quantity) to anything on the commercial channels- ITV's World Cup coverage this year was embarrassing in comparison. I will agree however that the BBC has not made a decent sitcom for fuck knows how long, but the hit rate cannot be any worse than that of US tv- Two and a half men anyone?
-
Aw, I liked Robin Hood :)
As an American, I'd say that the BBC has put out a lot of very, very good shows, and its ratio of good-to-bad has been far higher than any one station in the US... on par with the premiums (HBO, Showtime, etc.) I would gladly pay the license fee if I could to get it straight from the tap, if you will... BBC America is annoying as all hell. -
Aug 31, 2010 10:38:40 AM CDT
Ok, so, we all agree............................................
by axcel1
Paul McGann MUST come back!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hey, it would be great if Matt Smith was in series 6 and McGann was in series 7 aka series 6 part 2
-
Ha- thanks for the support but Robin Hood was crap once they got past the exposition bit and tried to run on their own two feet(any episode after the pilot. Your complaint about BBC America is probably justified as (correct me if I'm wrong) they buy a lot of their output from our commercial stations, ie it's not all BBC stuff. Hence for every Being Human there's a Primeval (utter shite).
-
My biggest complaint with BBC America is that they try to shoehorn commercials into shows that weren't filmed to have commercials. It's very jarring. (I don't know about the Beeb vs. commercial content... I've only watched BBC shows on BBC America.)
I liked the whole first series of Robin Hood. 2nd isn't really that good, and I haven't bothered with the 3rd yet.
Perhaps I'm a bit more forgiving ;) I liked Primeval at first because it's kind of campy and fun, but it got old quickly. I think it's the first BBC show I haven't really wanted to finish. But it was fun while it lasted.
And I haven't seen Being Human yet. It's on my Netflix queue... along with everyone else's apparently. It's taking FOREVER to get those discs! :( -
I go to bed and LO! Spud at Gotilk surface on the bloody TB!!!! Good day to all of you souls lucky enough to be alive!!! Frozen, as us Brits are forced to spend an innordinate amount to the BBC to keep them from advertising during programmes, we are lucky enough to have our programmes uninterrupted, which makes fuck all difference now with that brilliance of brilliance SKY HD plus...... or TIVO to our lovelies across the pond! Just fast forward those pesky annoying ads for tampons, yoghurt (voiced by badly over dubbed bratty children), cars sold by Uma Thurman and No Win No Fee accident lawyers.
-
Not long in, wife at a works dinner function tonight and just forced a reheated piece of salmon down my throat. Kids crashed out in their rooms ( a major plus point!) and NO FRIGGING WINE IN THE HOUSE AT ALL!!! Should I depress myself further by watching the Salems Lot mini series????? Pogue, good theory on River being the Tardis, but I just can't see it happening. Saying that, it would be a great plot device! I would never look at that blue box the same way ever again!
-
still no HornOrSilk though Is that good or bad???????? ;)
-
River being the Tardis raises all sorts of questions: lesbianistic, paedophilic, beastialistic - as all things that walked through those doors can lay claim to being inside her......
-
You may be lying in the gutter but you're looking at the stars....
-
Aug 31, 2010 1:34:27 PM CDT
sam jacksons wig, just to let you know, in the US...............
by axcel1
Cars are NOT sold by Uma Thurman, for some reason, big time movie stars will only do commercials outside the US. And, I'm still hoping for the return of Paul McGann.
-
Id love to see him back as well!
-
I tried shooting for the stars once but just managed to get it in my wifes hair.....
-
Bwahahahahahahahaha!
-
Most idiotic ad I have seen in a long time? A woman sitting on a throne surrounded by blokes, all ethereal and stuff with pearls around her neck and another woman talking to her (it looked as if they were under the sea or something)- what was the ad for? Sanitary towels. W T F????????? As for Mc Gann, out of all of the previous Doctors I would say that he is the most likely to return, but what would be the point? Personally Smith needs to get BOTH of the next 2 seasons under his belt both to cement his status and to make the role his own. Anything else would fuck up his credibility, and I believe he is and will keep doing a great job!!!
-
I just love watching HornOrSilk defend himself. "River being the Tardis raises all sorts of questions: lesbianistic, paedophilic, beastialistic - as all things that walked through those doors can lay claim to being inside her......" - I don't even know HOW you would describe Logopolis' TARDIS within a TARDIS within a TARDIS....
-
I don't even know HOW you would describe Logopolis' TARDIS within a TARDIS within a TARDIS.... Its simple- she likes to pleasure herself.....;)
-
simple.
and simultaneously brilliant! -
Its a Doctor Who thread !!!
Not sure what to make of this split season thingy...have to wait and see.
Would like more of Sherlock although personally the third show felt like a lot of filler for me and I wasn't enamoured at all by Moriarty---So Graham Norton!!!...However if they can make episodes of the class of the first Sherlock Holmes episode..I'm in.
For those missing the Doctor , this is one of the best videos I've seen on Youtube:
http://tiny.cc/1sj4s -
I DO NOT APPROVE OF THIS NEWS.
-
If I thought they were filming it all in one go.
Slight worry that , if they break after 7 episodes of filming, you lose a bit of momentum as people start to feel their way back into the roles.
If its all filmed in one go and then split up, that doesn't feel to bad...except for the wait...THE INTERMINABLE WAIT !!!! -
Aug 31, 2010 3:35:49 PM CDT
sam jacksons wig, just my opinion, but..........................
by axcel1
I think Mr Matt Smith has already cemented his status and made the role of the Doctor his own in the first season. I think Paul McGann would not affect him in anyway on the show.
-
This is going to get me a load of grief but....
I really enjoyed David Tenants stint as the Doctor but when I see some of his gurning in repeats on Bravo plus 1 Gold Extra or whatever, I cringe.
You don't realise until you look back just how good Matt Smiths Doctor is. -
Tennant made me love Doctor Who again.
-
Aug 31, 2010 4:02:20 PM CDT
2LeggedFreak, no grief..........................................
by axcel1
You have the right to your opinion. I personally enjoyed David Tenant's time as the Doctor and still do. I have all of his years as the Doctor on DVD and plan on rewatching some of my favorites. I won't mention which ones are my favorites because I'm sure I WILL "get me a load of grief", so, let's not open up that can of worms.
-
It's not really that hard! Let me say it for you... the best episodes of NuWho are as follows: 'Empty Child/Doctor Dances', 'Blink', 'Tooth & Claw', 'School Reunion', 'Family of Blood/Human Nature', 'Utopia', 'Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead', 'Midnight', 'The Stolen Earth', 'End of Time 2', 'Eleventh Hour', Amy's Choice, 'Pandorica Opens/Big Bang'
-
That they can't see the brilliance of Matt Smith but I have gone through many regenerations and I am used to dealing with post regeneration blues. Matt really is fantastic. The best since Troughton. Maybe.
-
Aug 31, 2010 4:43:04 PM CDT
Seph_J, I have to admit.........................................
by axcel1
Your list is ALMOST the same as mine. But, I would add a couple more, if only because of favorite villians and the talent of David Tennant. And, to think, we almost had an american weekly does of Tennant, but, NBC did not pick up his pilot, "Rex Is Not Your Lawyer". But, of course, Jerry O'Connell did another lawyer series and did get pick up as a series.
-
Aug 31, 2010 4:44:39 PM CDT
Oh, I should mention that.......................................
by axcel1
O'Connell was his co-star in that pilot.

V'Shael, don't get the wrong idea..............................
by axcel1
I DO see the brilliance of Matt Smith. As I said in an earlier Talkback, he had me at "Geronimoooooooooooo"!!
-
- Said the cow version of The Doctor (Doctor Moo?)
-
I'm with you, hun. The Tennant episodes just aren't as good as I once thought they were! Then again, I always preferred Eccleston.
-
Involves the Doctor landing on Gauda Prime and takes on "seven" new companions who are locked out of there spaceships silo?
-
Love your theory about River being the tardis! Could eplain Aelias aunt story as she is the house that young amy lives in ...and we are back suggesting the house is a Tardis!!!!!
-
No, you are back suggesting the house is a TARDIS :oP
-
I Will not give up! :)
-
I'd expect nothing less! And now, time to clean the kitty litter, collect the hubby, and drive into the city to join up with my fellow Steampunks and check out this newfangled invention called the "talkie". *ahem* I mean, I'm going to see Scott Pilgrim. Later you all!
-
I've been mulling it over all day... I'm gonna stand by it! River Song IS the TARDIS! Now we just have to wait until the middle of next year until I am vindicated.
-
The house DID have a bright blue door!!!

...but at least he'll be ginger. I'm thinking either Rupert Grint or Tony Curran. Then we'll meet Thirteenth way WAY too soon (probably wearing all black). I fear this will be Moffat's gamechanger - the Doctor's eventual mortality as runs out of regenerations.
-
If he was contracted for 3 years will this mean he is gone after next year? there is always ulterior motives for things at the BBC, I wonder what this one is all about?
-
Hello everyone. I missed you. But my day was crazy and now I have the playlist thing to finish.

no cheat

Goodnight, all.
-
And Boing for me as well *crash*
-
No more "Geronimo!" The Doctor needs no catchphrase. At least it hasn't been used to death like F'ing Alonzee!, but it's still damn annoying. Also, declare a moratorium on the Daleks and Cybermen for a few years. I agree there should be a mix of new aliens and some of the underused ones from the old show (like the brilliant use of the Macra). Ice Warriors, Zygons, Draconians, Osirans, the Mara, the Guardians, Rutans; lots of potential great storylines with all of those and many more.
-
....Smith IS excellent, but there are alot of others out there who refuse to let, say, Tennant go. I agree that McGann didn't relate to the masses as much as Tennant did (hey, he didn't have time OR opportunity), but it is still the same in MHO. I want to see just ONE Doctor at once thank you (we have already had 5 incarnations share screen time and it wasn't particularly good)and Smith just needs that BIT more time after the early jitters of his first season. Bringing back any Doctor may harm his chances of really making the role his own. 2LEGGED!!!!!!!!!!! YAY!!!! Good to hear from you matey!!!! Hope you are extremely well!!! Froen, Scott Pilgrim just sucked all kinds of ass for me, but that's just beause I am of a "certain" age..... har har har har
-
I agree on the aliens point, 100%. No Daleks and Cybermen this year!
-
Great to see you. Glad you liked it. I still need to run and see it before it falls out of the good screens in my area and moves to the malls.
-
so here I am in the middle of the night posting to DocBack. Just like the old days. (i.e. last week)
-
wish me luck. Maybe some Craig Ferguson will help me sleep. Nah.. that just cracks me up. Oh well... I hope the rest of you can sleep well.

I kinda agree with you somehwhat. Although i didnt hate the last season it wasn't any better overall than any of the RTD series. There wasnt any outstanding episodes (though the eleventh hour came close) It was good..but thats all good, not amazing. Smith is good but he still looks way too young for the role. Id love to see some more "heart" come back to the show..something about it is a little too cold now.
-
it being "cold". I don't agree,I found it almost too heartwarming at times.. I guess..(maybe the wrong choice of words?) but having heard that same word used multiple times, there has to be SOMETHING to it. As much as he's been criticized, RTD did inject a bit of a heart of gold into nu-Who.
-
Keep it alive, keep talking Who.
-
they also CENSOR! Stupid, stupid stupid. It's cable ferfucksake. WHY??? Seems to be a trend. I was watching Universal HD yesterday for a bit and they bleeped out the F word. Huh?? It makes NO sense. In a few cases, on these networks(MGM, Universal, etc), they are the only place you can see certain titles in true HD. And they show censored versions. I don't need to be protected from words. And kids shouldn't be watching the network in the middle of the night anyway. Who and what are they protecting? Bahh!! Screw BBC America. At least here where I am, Sherlock is coming to PBS, an over the AIR network with balls.
-
I'm rooting for it. I'm a member, so I'll be sure to let them know in writing I want more of that please! And old Who again. (I've bugged them in writing about that already.. yes.. I'm a Nerrrrrrrrrd)
-
I saw on the Digital Spy website that the cliffhanger next season would be Amy's death - for good this time - as Karen Gillan will be leaving the show. Don't know the providence of this rumour though. And I can't believe no one has named the Angel two-parter as one of their favourite season 5 episodes - I thought it was one of the best ever in Who and had more ideas in it than most movies these days.
-
Is the gang all here????? Who is still missing from a righteous Docback???? As for censoring shows on cable- fuck that mate! Dreadful! Here we have things that need a pin code added to unlock the programme if it is shown before the watershed and is unsuitable (even PG movies before a certain time need unlocked, I shit you not.)That way we get 15 and 18 certificated material throughout the day unedited and uncensored as we make it the bill payers responsibility what he or his kids watch. I'm all for that! I and my wife have the pass code and our kids don't. Simple! It's even locked on the multi room service so the little darlings can't frig about with that. Sounds like our American friends are taking it up the arse alittle. But censorship in the US is mental anyway, or so I have heard.
-
Just a quick pop in before work to say hello to everyone!!!
-
...but it was leaked by the Sun newspaper, a rag notorious for having about one syllable of news in its 50 pages of replacement emergency toilet paper. There HAS been alot of Gillan hatred, especially on these threads by some NOTORIOUS posters, but damn! The girl isn't bad (and agree she was excellent in the Angel 2 parter last season), outdoes Billy Piper in every way possible and is VERY pleasing on the eye. And another question, after the recent Piper, Agyman, Tate and (presumably now departing) Gillan...just WHEN will Who fans get a companion they really like??? If this does indeed end up happening it is a travesty. I for one am pig sick of all of the chopping and fucking changing. Stability is what is called for!
-
Morning! Everyone is me, Ferret at Gotilk for the moment! Enjoy your day at the grn and I will enjoy my next 4 days off!!!!! MWWHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
-
Sodding fucking laptop keypad! Mutter...mumble...."workman.." gripe..."tools et.c..."
-
Also, Matt Smith hasn't received the first batch of scripts yet. Which probably means they haven't even written the cliff-hanger. Does it seem terribly likely (considering how spoilers were so hard to come by last year) that it would have leaked already? To the Sun?No. It's just more Karen hatred by people who never got over Rose leaving. They can go back to watching soaps...
-
for the Final Doctor. Having an old Doctor to end with would be sort of like completing the cycle.
-
Like I said I can't speak for the providence of the rumour, especially as the Sun is involved.
For the record I love Amy and truly hope her and her tiny mini-skirt stay in the show for a long time! -
Hello dearest!!! How are you????
-
I have followed all of season 5. I finally saw Pandorica opens on a site called dailymotion. Very good stuff. but i and emeraldbro both agree that that Amy pond's character has been appallingly written and there is only one man responsible for that and that is Steven Moffat. The eleventh hour was a great opening. and it slapped a silly great big grin on my face. Both Karen and Matt smith are young actors and They will have very bright futures a head of them. The bbc is denying and refuting all rumors that they are looking for a new dr already. and have stated that Matt smith will be the dr untill 2013. He said on jonathon Ross that he signed on for a year and half and had an option for two more if things went well. the future of the bbc of is up in the air. the recession means everyone has to cut back including the bbc. I love dr who has much as the next person. this show like most things is not beyond criticism.
-
Can you remember a little while ago when the Sun got i's hands on a script for Potter 7? They had to publish the image because they KNEW without it everyone would think they were the full of shit dreck they normally are! I get more news from watching Spongebob Squarepants....
-
erm.... we always criticise Who on these threads. It's not just one huge love machine my friend. I can recall (and have been a part of for my SHAME) some absolute barn burners.....
-

I like Amy AND Rory.............................................
by axcel1
I hope neither one kicks the bucket.
-
Just keep Rory away from any major sorces of heat and he should make it.....
-
Yes, censorship is absolutely nuts here. And we still have a pretty significantly sized group of people who think it's not enough!
You guys do have it quite lucky. Take Torchwood. Something like that would never make it here, except on a premium channel. -
CONTESTANT 36!!!! Check out the new Futurama episode where they have a fancy dress competition at ComicCon! A fat guy trundles up on a mobility scooter dressed as Spiderman and shoots whipped cream from his wrists into his own mouth!!! It's KNOWLES!!!!!!
-
Hello! Good morning! How are you my dear??? I knew bible belt America was bad but since I have NEVER been to the states I cannot comment first hand. Apparently US goes nuts over sexual scenes, which would have had most liberal Americans foaming at the mouth if they had been with me in Barcelona where they were showing hard core porn on their TV channel! (I shit you not my Spanish friends!) American Psycho- wasn't the violence that was snipped in good ol Uncle Sams neighbourhood, but the scene of Bateman bonking the two hookers.... crazy!!!! Murder is a natural act but sex isnt???
-
than any previous Companion.
I've been catching up a few friends on nuWho, and so have somewhat recently re-watched a good chunk of Rose's era, some of Martha's, and most of Donna's. Each had their faults. Rose was a lovestruck dumbass, Martha was a whiny victim, and Donna (though I love her) was rough around the edges to say the least. Amy is a blank slate. She's an interesting person who's spent her entire life in a town where nothing has ever happened. I guess she doesn't bother me that much because I know quite a few people who are like that... not to mention, it's a nice relief from the soap opera drama that was Rose and Martha (and to a degree, Donna) -
Good afternoon/evening! I'm tired, but good. Late night last night. How are you?
That's the weird thing. Violence is okay, as long as there isn't too much blood or gore. Explosions, peachy keen. But sex and language are two things that we, collectively, do not seem to tolerate well at all. It is worse in the Bible Belt, yes, but not exclusive to that area. They're just the most regressive (generally speaking). You heard about the Janet Jackson Super Bowl snafu, yes? Or how one of our politicians tried to cover a statue of Justice (I believe) because her breast was exposed? We have this strange fear of the human body here. -
I sometimes read a bunch of reviews for dr who episodes after it airs. the praise can be unanimous. sometimes after a while watching the tennant era, I found the show became tiresome. I still watched it cause I like dr who and have been the watching the show since early childhood. there is a photo of me and emeraldbro watching dr who and we are sitting in front of the telly. I know the show got battered from rtd-haters. My complaint about the show was different. Tennants actions became routine. the show would start. a villain would turn up. dr would be backed into a corner and pull a plan out of his ass and save the day. RTD was teaser and that only works if you have the balls to back that up. his two part stories were disappointing that way. anyhow we are now in the moffat era. his supporters waged a loud and aggressive campaign to get rtd out of the boss chair. and Moffats first effort was great i admit. but as season 5 went on. and the more I watched. I thought there is something not right here. this concern was not evident these talkback posts and the dr who love fest went on. emeraldbro and I both agree that the moff has something for idiosyncratic characters. the danger is that by riding two bikes moffat may fall off one them. I am hoping it is not dr. and moff if your reading this, all I ask is that you at least give karen gillian better scripts to work with. please, pretty please?
-
of the sinking ship. I hope not....
-
some of the episodes this season were very goo, but some were painful to watch. The lodger and the Old People with Snakes in their Mouths were particularly painful and I almost turned them off several times. The Penultimate Ep with the Doctor's enemies uniting to trap him in the Pandoricum was great but the resolution in the finale was hugely disappointing. First of all, since when can the Doctor travel through time without the Tardis other than when he had the time ring? Next what was up with the Love Saves the Day ending? Sinking feeling indeed.
-
but not the way her character is written.
-
when it comes to censorship. Agreed that our views have relaxed a helluva lot since the Mary Whitehouse days of the 80's when she managed to whip the blue rinse brigade into a frenzy over sex and violence, and then during the same era we get The Singing Detective and Black eyes on TV, both of which showed naked arses grinding into women... bUt true case in point is Cronenburgs Crash- slaughtered in the media and banned by local councils for glorifying sex and abnormal sex acts, mostly by people who had NEVER even seen the thing ( I personally got more aroused watching fucking Wonder Woman!), and now we are about to release A Serbian Film onto cinema, granted with 3 minutes gone, but that stuff is only the bits that concerned kids (which NEVER should have been in there in the first place, but that's a conversation for a completely different time.)The bit where he is forced to rape a woman tied to a bed and then.... well, I won't go there... but that remains in UNCUT.... I don't think that anyone will ever get it right, do you?
-
I loved the way rtd relaunched dr who but I began to tire of the circular nature of the action in dr who episode. I still watched. and will continue to watch the show.
-
Grovel, minions! ;)
-
still early days for Moff and the Gillan/Smith partnership. The crack in time and Doctor travelling threads throughout 5 were stupendous great television, but we had that to think about and the dynamics of a new group of people. Somethings were bound to slip occasionally along the way. Vincent and the Doctor was so good it hurt- Gillan was given ENORMOUS amounts to do in that and carried herself admirally. Rorys death scene next to the crib and her anger at the doctor? Beautifully downplayed with no OTT trheatrics, just sheer grief, sadness and then determination. The girl is doing alright.
-
Well, movies are a completely different field. There, it seems, anything pretty much goes. Just the absolutely most wretched is "banned", but mostly because no one in their right mind would want to see it and your film would tank. (Then again, when Watchmen came out, all we heard about for weeks was Manhattan's penis. Guh.)
Personally, I'd settle for just a little less puritanism over the human form. That's a good start. -
Unless it's my form and then I agree that it should be covered up completely at ALL times!!!
-
Vincent and the Doctor was indeed great and so was Gillan in it, although I thought it a bit cruel of her to cocktease him the way she did knowing that she couldn't have a relationship with him as well as the nature of his mental illness.
-
in ireland that it was banned from irish cinemas for life. the ban still stands. chris tookey called for all sony products to be banned in the light of David Cronenbergs crash. that film was also banned in ireland. ridley scotts hannible was given a 15 cert. I found that movie's ending to be utterly unwatchable. we all know that that film was a complete mess.
-
*shrugs* It can't be much worse than some of the clothes people wear. Oof. I'd rather look at manboobs and bloated tummies (not sayin' you have 'em) than another 80s fashion "statement". At least manboobs are somewhat natural. (apologies to shibs... I know, I'm making fun of the 80s again ;) )
-
Sometimes, teasing is fun... for both the teaser and the teasee. ;)
-
Not when your a suicidal manic depressive it's not. At least he didn't cut his ear off for her, although that would have been badass, if a bit cliched.
-
I've heard nothing but good things about it.
-
Not so sure about that. He seemed to be enjoying himself ;)
-
No- I stay in shape, don't smoke and only drink when there is a Y IN THE DAY...I thought that this fucking day was all but written off, but wife has come in from work bearing wine and nibbles. That should ease my pain somewhat. The sexual dynamic between Van Gogh and Amy worked because you knew he would never really have her- it was all foreplay and no payoff. And throughout the episode his depression lessened to a great extent when she was near him.
-
Good to hear from you as well.
On the multiple Doctors thing I have to throw in The Three Doctors in defence of the concept.
Troughton and Pertwee were excellent in that--the only thing that wasn't right is that they played it as if Hartnell was the older, wiser party when it fact it should have been Pertwee...still great fun though and an example of what can be done.
I'm in the love Amy crowd but I do agree that at times the writing hasn't served her well.
And HornOrSilk, if you are around, I mean love Amy in a purely platonic way and bodily fluids aren't involved. -
PLATONIC???? NO FLUIDS???? OH you lie sir!!! I have been monitoring your mail my good fellow and I can say without a shadow of a doubt that semen does NOT travel well in envelopes!! Besides it smudges the writing on the front so it's no wonder it ended up at HornOrSilks place!!! It is great to hear from you, and has placed a large grin on my face! Or is that just the wine I am guzzling by the vat load?
-
Postman here Mr HornorSilk, I think its another package of essence of prawn cracker...you get a lot of that don't you ?.
-
All its done is out my deep mistrust of what they use to flavour prawn crackers
-
she has to stop striking model poses when she's not sure what she's not given any specific direction.Of course, the problem here is partly that of the directors, but still.Matt Smith is much better than I expected -- I never thought that a 21 y.o.could make the Doctor's role work, but he's done it.

Auton-Rory does not exist in this Dojo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Or this universe, for that matter!!!!!
-
why did moffat make her smarter than the dr. matt smith is very good.
-
I have a box of matches with Rorys name all over them! BUUUUURN WITH MEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!
-
All you'll end up doing is giving Rory a hot foot, he be human, now, man!!!!!
-
Just, sometimes, she knows more than the Doctor. She has lived on Earth all her life, and he hasn't. It would be like if you came to Chicago. Just because I can direct you to all the major landmarks here doesn't mean I'm smarter than you! (But I'll pretend it does anyway!) ;)
-
Excuse me, Mr HornOrSilk, but this is your Chinese takeaway order here..... for some reason the prawn crackers taste like envelopes.....I have no idea why that would be.......OH! I see you're watching Dr Who! Karen Gillan. She's nice isn't she? Erm, sir...... you can put the knife away now... I only said she was nice.....what's that sign Mr HornOrSilk- all Dr Companions are whores who deserve to die...NOOO!!!! TEGAN!!!! What's he done with youuuuu....
-
Fez's are cooooooooooooooool. I have it on very good authority. And Rory has more plastic than Ken... now where's that blow torch? ;);););)
-
I know Chicago like the back of my hand! Michael Bay blew that up as well......
-
Michael Bay blew up your hand? Um, did you owe him money or something?
-
No- I tried to stab him with HornOrSilks knife..... it's all 2 leggeds fault....
-
I would be very surprised if they actually did a multiple-doctor crossover episode, mainly because people have been asking for that since the Eccleston days and it hasn't happened yet. Personally I'd love to see one, but it seems like the powers have deliberately steered away from that for a while now (in favor of umpteen Dalek & Cyberman episodes, which are getting to be very tiresome)
-
then you'll be glad to know neither make an appearance in the next two seasons....
-
I dunno anyone younger than that getting excited over that franchise.

Thanks for the bad news, Dr Killjoy McKilljoy...................
by axcel1
aka sam jacksons wig!!!!!! Dalek,ok, I guess the BBC got their money's worth with them, the alternate universe Cybermen, while I liked their little appearance in "The Pandorica Opens", I don't want to see them ever again, I want "our" Cybermen, you know, the ones from Mondas/Telos. Ok, maybe you're not Dr Killjoy McKilljoy, Sammy. And, yes, Fez's are cooooooooooooooool. Oh, and, I hope your hand heals after getting blown off by Mr Bay.
-
Do you know anyone under 40?
For the record, I'm 28. Of my friends who are Whovians, not a single one is over 32. -
especially the murdoch press. normally i would have very little sympathy for william hague. but it is nobody business what happens in his private life. I have a small modicum very very very very very small modicum sympathy for him despite the fact he is a right wing bigot.

Top Five Possible Mid-series (season)Finales:
1) The return of River Song (As the Doctor, a Time Lord or, the Tardis.
2) The TARDIS is lost.
3) The TARDIS becomes human.
4) All three of them die.
5) The Doctor goes thur a temporary regeneration.
Those sound like "event" cliffhangers to me. -

Bad news, Frozen Renee,.........................................
by axcel1
I'm a little over 40, I was just a kid when I watched my first Doctor Who in 1980, "The Invasion of Time", the first time I saw Tom Baker as the Doctor.
-
Nobody here but us chickens! :(
-
I am 38 and love Who! :)
-
My mates kids ALL love Who and none of them is over 40 ;)
-
wasn't bad at all, the two doctors was better and the three doctors was even better still! That leaves The Four Doctors and The Six (and above) Doctors i suppose! :)
-
Is a well acted, well written part! Have any of you people seen Mel in action?Oh and i would pay good money for Karen to pop round to my place in her Police outfit! ;)

Simon, I agree with you 100%....................................

But, you didn't say if you liked "Dimensions In Time", the Children In Need Special in 1993 that had all 7 Doctors in it.
-
Since we're baring our souls I JUST turned 40 a few weeks ago and got the most AMAZING TARDIS cake from my friends... like Cake Boss quality shit! I have friends that range in age from 16 to my age who all love WHO and my 12 year old nephew has become hooked - stewing that he has to wait until Christmas Day to see a new episode! WHO transcends the age barrier as well as the barriers between time and space and other dimensions.

by axcel1
Didn't our new God of Who write the short Children In Need story, "Time Crash", which had Doctor #5 (Peter Davison) met Doctor #10 (David Tennant)? If he's willing to do that, it's makes the return of Doctor #8 (Paul McGann) seem possible. Yes, no, maybe?
-
T'internet went down, been watching Smith and jones season 3 ep 1 :)and yes, i thought Time Crash was brilliantly done as well!

Why is that bad news?
-
And I just another friend hooked on WHO! After the first two episodes of the last season he can't wait to see more.
-
I thought 'Time Crash' kicked all sorts of ass! Gave me goose bumps... Tennant's "but you were MY Doctor' made me get all misty!
-
"...builds to an earth shattering climax at Episode 7, there will be a huge cliffhanger ... a cliffhanger we could never do normally at the end of a series of DOCTOR WHO ... because it would be too long until it came back ... an enormous honestly game changing cliffhanger..."
Bigger than rebooting the universe?
Do we always need something bigger?

Yeah... but at the same time the aforementioned God of Who also wrote 'The Curse of Fatal Death' and had Rowan Atkinson regenerate into Richard E. Grant, Hugh Grant, Jim Broadbent and, err Joanna Lumley's wonderbra. So beware. And if you think Moffat wouldn't dream of cribbing from that little spoof... Hugh Grant's regenerations speech of 'I've put a lot of work into it' was given to Matt Smith when he squared off against the Atraxi. -

I see you're cheating on us with other talkbacks ;)
-
I don't know whether to thank you or not for pointing me in the directio of Dimensions in Time, which I'd never seen.
Shockingly bad effort even for Children in Need :- Jon Pertwee still shone though and Davison and Baker were pretty good too.
-
terrible. The Eastenders cast were actually acting worse than they do in Eastenders! The only redeeming feature was seeing Fifi sitting on the market stall.

until the reboot.
David Tennat fullfilled the promise, and Matt Smith ramps up the suspense.
I am thoroughly hooked -
Which also means that YOU have visited the talkbacks I have been on....hmmm, double standard from my main Chicago friend??? God, I NEED to visit the States- if only to say i've been there. My wife has been to Detroit, San Francisco, New York, Miami and Mississippi...lucky whore. We both spent 3 weeks in Canada for our Honeymoon- beautful country and I would live there tomorrow.
-
You forgot Eccleson who was fucking dynamite in the role! He paved the way for Tennant and Smith with his classic take on the Doctor. I can re-watch him a million times he is THAT good!
-
Enjoy the wedding- I have always found them an excuse to get pissed as a fart, which, for a couple of medical Doctors is not a very healthy way to spend ones time- still, most of my colleagues drink like a fish. One even dresses up like a woman on weekends, I shit you not!!! Today I have been offered a new job- a massive pay increase but I will have to change my life radically. I am at this stage not prepared to. My wife is the career person in the family and I am quite happy working part time helping out my colleagues and looking after my children. My wife is MUCH smarter and career minded than I am. Why the FUCK should I change????
-
I had a couple of ideas for Dr. Who episodes.
In the simplest one (this might have been done before), The Doctor meets H.G. Wells in Victorian London and provides the inspiration for The Time Machine book. The Daleks or some other evil species are the inspiration for the "Morlocks."
In the other, the Time Lords dispatch the Doctor to stop a renegade who is interfering with historical tragedies and creating a paradox that could destroy the universe, such as preventing 9-11, the Kennedy assassination, the Titanic sinking, etc. The Doctor faces a moral dilemma because the renegade is actually a good guy compared to the Time Lords, but the Doctor may have to destroy this person - River Song? -
Ah, you're too smart for me ;)
Yes, you do need to visit the States. Detroit and Mississippi... not exactly the greatest (though I think your wife has been more places here than I have, and I've lived in four states!) May I recommend Chicago? ;) You know, when it's NOT being blown up by Michael Bay?
If it makes you feel any better, I haven't been anywhere outside of the US yet. Not even Canada. :( But that's mostly because I'm saving my money for something a little better...
Your cross-dressing friend wouldn't happen to be named Andrew, would he? :) -
Your HG Wells idea was used for a comic book story. It was pretty good... even involved Torchwood. Perhaps they'll use it in the show at some point... I would definitely be up for that.
The other sounds vaguely familiar... might be similar to a classic Who story. -

I found a cat this morning in the middle of the road. Well, kitten. Tiny kitten. About 7 inches long without the tail. Crazy feral!! All hisses and spitting and scratching and biting. About 10 minutes ago she flipped and now is purring and cuddly and wants to play. A no-kill shelter is taking her in the morning, as I am allergic to cats. As much as I love them, I cannot be around them for very long. They said a kitten her size will be adopted within days. I'm going to suggest them name her Romana ( Romanadvoratrelundar ).

Hope your weekend was good! Personally I cringe when I go to weddings- so many people you a) don't know, b)don't really want to know, c)that make arses of themselves and d)dress in the most ridiculously poor apparrel known to mankind. Uncle Fred always gets on the dance floor pissed, and someone always falls over. Not to mention all of the faux crying for something that has a 90% probability to end in divorce a few years down the line..... God, I'm a miserable bastard this morning. The last wedding I went to I made the horrible mistake of calling the champagne "piss water" to the guy who supplied it. How was I to know?? He didn't have a t-shirt that said "I supplied and catered for this event..." What the FUCK was he doing there anyway???? He obviously had the good sense to not eat any of his own food. I also have an uncanny knack of making my wife laugh in social situations, especially when it's quiet. There was this young girl there with absolutely massive out of control hair, and I said to my wife that they needed to move her away from the electrical supply. That did it......people kept looking at us shaking, trying not to laugh...
-
This very good friend of mine (and still is, thank god!) was very unlucky with women. Whenever he got into a serious relationship the woman always cheated on him- this happened about 4 times! Anyway, he met this (latest) lady and one night introduced me to her. I then proceeded to say to her "Can you just tell Matt who else you're going to sleep with and when so it's not a suprise this time..." Silence..... For what seemed like a VERY long time.
-
...we need the posts! Took the kids to Alton Towers for a few days and was staying in the Splash Landings hotel for 4 nights. The swimming pool there is just magic- so much so that a parent decided to undress their (what looked to be)8 year old kid in the public area (who fucking does something like that nowerdays???) Being a parent I was deeply upset and embarrassed, and was JUST about to walk over and say something when the kid squatted by the seating area and took a HUGE steaming shit on the floor. I have never about faced quicker in my life! They were ejected from the pool, hotel and park for that little incident I was later told.
-
On the tube going into central London one morning I was approached by a middle aged lady who I presumed was going to ask me the time. (WHY???) Before she even had a chance to do anything I said "It's 11.20, love." Her face just changed to horror instantly. "I OWN a fucking watch!" she screamed at me. Everyone was now looking. "Why are you talking to me???" she continued. "Why? Who the fuck do you think you fucking are you know it all bastard!!!?" I have never spoken to anyone on the tube since. (apart from people I am with..)
-
When I was a kid myself and my brother and parents went out for a drive to the countryside. My Dad NEVER asked for directions because he was Mr GPS man. Needless to say, the daft bastard got us lost when hwe was looking for this "quaint little pub" to have lunch in. The pub was called "The Cock Inn..." oh dear..... He pulled over at a service station and told the attendant that he was looking for "The Cock..." To this day he has never lived that down.
-
To what, my dear, are you saving your pennies for? Sounds like it could be something Life Changing!!! Come to the UK! There's not much here at all!!!" Not much of a flyer, my wife and kids refer to me as Mr T when I have to fly. Worst flight? To the Gambia, when we were being chased (and eventually caught) by a huge fucking storm. Even the flight attendants lost colour on that one. Longest flight? Japan. I was sooooooo stressed that I needed knock out pills.
-
Love it when one of us just rants and raves and there is no one there!
-
were the perpetrators of the aptly named 'Splash Landings' incident Chinese, by any chance?
-
that is something that the Chinese are known to do. Stop virtually anywhere and either lay a poop themselves, or convince their child that they need to do it right now - rather than walk 15 steps to the toilet.
-
No, my friend, they were plain old caucasian, but VERY pikey like. They were on a day trip which didn't last long after the kiddie did his "Richard the Third" act.
-
And just so people don't think I'm lying:
http://www.rantsaboutchina.page.tl/Even-dirtier-_-Chinese-toilet-habits.htm
[Excerpt] "They will literally stoop and pee or defecate on the street, despite there being a public toilet 10 metres away. The vast majority of Chinese children have never worn a diaper. Instead, they have a big slit that, when they stoop down, opens and allows them to pass whatever." -
Really need your opinion on the Korg MicroKorg........?????
-
Just had one and it tasted lovely!Full now though, could do with another snooze! :)
-
A definate Boing moment if ever there was one! Take care of yourselves- wont be on much this week as I have alot of work to do. Best wishes to all!
-
Well, of course we're coming to the UK, hun!
We'll probably be all touristy and go to London (I do owe someone there a proper kiss on the cheek, and there's a band I'd like to see). Though apparently I'm to stop at some point roundabout Manchester (yes?), because sommmebody knows where the good pubs are there ;)
We are talking at least a few years in the future though. Damn mortgage. -
...going to the hotel on a coach when a native dude walked into the middle of the road (the coach had to stop and witness this)hitched up his skirts and shat in front of us. Going to the local village with our local guide (useful things to have)and seeing how they lived- a hut with one room, 10 people and a bucket, which when full was thrown into the gutter, which was full of maggots. Visiting a fish market (oh god the smell...)where tradesmen used to piss next to their product. Good times!!!!!

Had an awesome birthday yesterday... went to Ren Faire, was bought several drinks, got an antique phone and some beautiful custom-made Steampunky earrings (I have a friend who does that as a side-business, and he made them especially to go with my costume). My husband made me a TARDIS cake, which was nowhere near as nice as Pogue's but, it was still very sweet of him :) Pictures are on FB.
Anyways, gotta get ready for the last day of Faire. See you all on the other side! -
Discriminated against us "Johnny Foreigner" types and excluded us from having a great day off :(

Bad because I met a lot of new people who were really cool, some of which I won't see again for months, but good because now I will have time to do other things, like chat here :) Did you guys see the picture of the Eleventh Doctor I got? Not the best but still cool... he should've stolen the fez from the Mud Pit guy :) -

"The Sarah Jane Adventures", the Doctor makes a guest apearance in the 2 parter, "Death of the Doctor", along with Jo Grant.

Can't think of Halloween yet! I've got at least 4 events between now and then, and then a couple days after Halloween is TeslaCon. I need to finish up my timey-wimey device before then! AH TOO MUCH TO DO!!!! *explodes*
-
I feel the same way.... so much to do and not enough time to do it. If only I had a TARDIS!
-
Not sure if I mentioned this before, but I gave up on SJA. I'll probably watch the one you're talking about, but there's too much good TV (and books) out there. Just got the first disc of Being Human, so on we move...

Yeah, I thought after Faire ended I'd have some freetime. Until I saw my calendar... *faint*

Boing....time for bed...........................................
by axcel1
Oooooooooooooooooooooooo, I beat you to it, Simon!!! Really am tired, hard day at the office. See you, and, everyone tomorrow.
-
keep fucking that chicken!
-
Going to bed so early! ;)
-
top sirloin, 1 hr kosher salted (w/garlic and parsley sprinkled)then rinsed off, grilled 55 sec each side then into the broiler for 4 min each side. Perfection. Tender, tasty. Ruth's Chris steakhouse, I just made you look like Sizzler.
-
in the broiler.
-
before cooking. I read you should never cook a cold steak. And then let it rest for 5 before eating it. I am not kidding.. tasted like a 100 dollar steak.
-
I'm a some-bits now! And yes, the chicken is in the corner smoking a cig at the moment. Smiling with its little eyes closed.
-
Tomorrow perhaps! I'm feeling a lot better now.
-
now fry it up and eat that bitch
-
Just checking in before the third day of shit shifts begins (VERY short staffed at the moment)and I find myself getting home at 1.30 tomorrow morning. Lots of coffee is the key!!!Hope everyone is very well and will catch up with you all soon!
-
Hmmm....you Americans are all the same...always overdressing for the wrong situation.... Seriously, I wish to god above that Halloween was half as big in the UK than it is in the States. The most wse get is "Most Haunted Live" on Living.... Which is shit and Ghost hunter gay... Now off to work. Mercifully I only have to work until 10pm tonight- just had a call that they have cover or it would have been until 1.30am tomorrow!!!!!
-
That show is worse than Ghost Hunter gay... it's just 45 minutes of women screaming. But at least the locations are beautiful and have actual history. Best we get is someone's attic or a 50-year-old pub *sigh*
And I overdress for every situation, hun ;) But no Halloween? Okay, now I can never live in the UK. -
No matter what I do, I am going to throw together a Doctor costume. Not sure which yet. No access to huge scarfs so that's right out. Hmmmm.. maybe I still have a fez hanging around from that last TMBG show I went to.
-
may your day be better than good, much much better than average.
-
I met them back in 1992 when I was supposed to be conducting an interview for a radioshow I hosted.... arrogant douchebags. I cut the interview short. For such, quirky, `fun`guys they certainly had an elitist, looking down their nose at student journalists attitude. The same student journalists that helped elevate them to the fame they`ve achieved. Cunts.
-
I'm pondering a mad scientist costume this year. Not sure how I'm going to top that Queen of Hearts one I did last year, that was yummy :)

thread alive, when you guys don't even discuss Dr. Who in here anymore? You just post crap to keep it in the top ten.
-
Nothing of any significance going on in here. I could totally understand it if there was constant Who discussions goin on, but there is not. SO what's the stream of logic here?Oh did I cross a line by asking that? Oh I better run and hide
-
Is the only one talking and for that I applaud you sam!
-
Because you've caught us at a bad time. Most of us are pretty busy right now, but we do normally jump on and discuss Doctor Who-related stuff in the news, or other BBC shows. It's just been a bit difficult to do that lately because I usually post news stuff while at work, but work has actually been busy lately and I haven't had time, gotilk has his own stuff he has to take care of, axcel is anti-social (;]), shibley is hiding in ASDA trying to find "jelly" in between assigning me homework, and everyone else has kind of faded away (except sammy, who is doing everything he can to keep us well entertained! *mwau!*)
If you have something you'd like to throw in, please feel more than free to do so. If not, and as you mentioned you feel that there is "nothing of any significance going on in here", well, then leave us to our thing, and enjoy one or more of the other many fine talkbacks here on Ain't It Cool News. -
Hey, matey! What's up? Hope that you are EXTREMELY well! As an addition to what the UBER HOT Frozen has typed (she will swim from Chicago and kill me for that comment)I would just like to add that there are alot of AICN friends on this TB, most of whom have spent alot of time on other Doctor Who TB's shooting the shit. It's a great way to catch up with them!!!
-
You've got a while to enjoy your life. Getting through the locks in the Great Lakes is a bitch and will probably hold me up for months before I even reach the Atlantic ;)
-
The TV movie is slotted to be released on DVD in the UK on October 4th, in the "Revisitions Box Set 1" (? I think they mean "Revisitations") along with Talons of Weng-Chiang (which holds a special place in my heart) and Caves of Androzani.
No word on when that comes to NA, though; just sometime in 2010/2011 according to the Wiki. *le sigh* -

Afternoon all...................................................
by axcel1
Just home for lunch. Sorry I wasn't on last night, dead tired from work again, I lost my helper at work, so, that means more work for me each day. I hope I get some help at work soon. Anyone know when "The Sarah Jane Adventures" start? Yes, I know it's a step down from "Doctor Who", but, I like the show. See everyone later.
-
While I loved his episode (and character) on Sherlock, the three episodes of Doctor Who he has written are The Unquiet Dead, The Idiot's Lantern, and Victory of the Daleks. He also played the title character in the Lazarus Experiment (which, along with Idiot's Lantern, is my least favorite episode of DW to date). So yeah, track record ain't that good.
-
"There may be an episode involving a giant Dollhouse (which sounds very Gaiman-esque, but let’s not jump to conclusions)"
*squee* -
That's okay, neither can I ;)

SWIM, BABY, SWIM!!!! Had a dream about David Tennant last night (during my 2 hours of sleep!) where he was dressed as Peter Vincent (his version of it) but was taking over from Russell Brand in the Arthur remake. Fucking weird...As for Scots/English doing American accents- painfully piss poor was Bob Hoskins (Roger Rabbit)....Tennant couldn't be worse than that!
-
That's the second time Roger Rabbit has been brought up today. I smell a conspiracy. Either that or the world is telling me that it's been far too long since I've seen it.
If I had a dream about David Tennant, I would never sleep again. They should replace the Daleks with David Tennant's lower lip, that's how scary it is. -
did you notice i got you a few more posts from those assholes who just had to wander over? ill bet they return and hep ya keep this baby afloat. youre welcome

That should cover the topical discussion stuff! ;)

Hope you are all well!

Frozen Renee,...................................................
by axcel1
I just saw that clip of David Tennant's pilot, "Rex Is Not Your Lawyer", and, I still would have liked to have seen it on a weekly basis. I agree with one of the comments on that site, maybe it was the voice coach, the reason I say that is because I watched a youtube video of Tennant narrating it, (I don't remember what it was, sorry.) and he kept flipping between his normal voice and an american accent, I thought he was great. I'm still a David Tennant fan.

We loved how you acted badly in such a BIG way, on purpose in that. Amazing work. How did you manage that?(silence, followed by crickets)Universe collapses.End scene.

Ok, so let's review.............................................
by axcel1
gotilk, you hate Eric Roberts because of how badly (in your opinion.) he played the Master in the 1996 tv movie, so much that you also want hime to pay for that with his life, but, then realised that was a bit much. Thank god, if he did,we wouldn't have him in "The Expendables" playing a great villian, in my opinion, of course. You hate "Heroes" and glad there won't be a tv movie, mini-series, whatever, to tie up loose ends. But, going by just the preair pilot of "No Ordinary Family", you say it "is entertaining enough.", which I agree with. I mean, we have the Thing/Hulk, the Flash, Brainic 5, and Professor X, sounds like a good team. Oh, and, going by the pilot, there are other superpowered people out there, if the Nightcrawwer-like villian is any indication.

Prepped filet mignon and when it was done, it tasted gamey. Bad meat. Very expensive bad meat. I'll be getting a refund for that. Nonsense. Hope you are all doing well.

Is for homos virgins and Republicans.Ie my kind of people.

Bad day at work today. Needed shepherds pie and Guinness. Got that and two TVs on the Fox Soccer Channel. And Godiva chocolate. Good times :)
I have converted another to the way of the Whovian, btw. In three days, he's got all the way to Tooth and Claw. I'm so proud of my little Whovian-in-training! :) -
Hope your day tomorrow is better. Good luck with the training! I'd call it "grooming" but that has creepy connotations these days.
-
they probably hate Who. Too many women not in kitchens. But "homos" and virgins? I've never actually met a virgin homosexual. At least not that I know of. I think I'll order that next time I'm at a bar just to see the look on the bartender's face. "Yes, I'd like a virgin homosexual please." Good times.

Awesome.

this is post-Palin Republicanism. Not being in a kitchen is fine as long as you're spouting bat-shit insanity, shooting at animals from helicopters and wearing crappy clothes that only women holding office wear. Something something politics something.

Mr CHOPPAH, just wondering......................................

Is this your version of "Tough Love"?
-
Next? LOL
-
I still don't recall if you guys had a reaction to the Benedict Cumberbatch video in which he proclaims what appears to be a deep desire to be the Doctor at some point.
-
I actually do. Maybe the best.
-
That "relevant" word. Really strong. lol
-
The S word.
-
Didn't get to see it, unfortunately. No vid at work :\

Good morning, good afternoon to all.............................

I have not seen that Benedict Cumberbatch video either. It would be interesting to see him as the Doctor AND Sherlock. I think, judging from seeing him in the 3 Sherlock movies, he could be a great Doctor. Keeping in mind, I hope Matt Smith sticks around for a long time as the Doctor.
-
I think it would be a little weird for him to be both.
-
2 concurrent iconic characters at once. Might be a little weird.

While I catch up on other BBC goodies like Life on Mars and Being Human.... the latter of which is surprisingly good, by the way. The premise sounds incredibly stupid (a werewolf, a vampire, and a ghost walk into a bar, harhar) but it's actually really good.

gotilk, enjoy series one........................................
by axcel1
As a true Who fan, I'm sure you will enjoy watching it and overlook (Is that one word?) the bad FX in it.
-
But it IS! I was shocked. Never fails to entertain. Without all the flashy cinematography and effects other similar show have. Just great writing, great characters and some truly funny moments as well. AND some really, really dark stuff.
-
especially the really old ones. It's almost hypnotic. I stop noticing the cheap stuff almost immediately and and just.. that's the best word for it.. transported.

Have a great weekend DocBackers and lurkers alike. Looks like my night off fell through and I'll have to wait another week. But that's not so bad. Normally I have to wait 6 months for a single night off. Lately, I've had one night off every 8 weeks or so. Nice. But by waiting a week I'll get 2 nights off. Hooray! I must prepare in advance. I'll have fun with it and post what I'm watching here.

Normally I have to wait 6 months for a single night off. Lately, I've had one night off every 8 weeks or so. Nice. But by waiting a week I'll get 2 nights off. Hooray! I must prepare in advance. I'll have fun with it and post what I'm watching here.

Hey, everyone...................................................
by axcel1
Good morning to all. Two positive reviews of "Being Human", maybe I'll start watching it. "The Sarah Jane Adventures" starts up in a couple of weeks, that should tide me over until the Doctor Who Xmas Special. Yes, I know, some people don't like it, but, I do.
-
Hey. SJA isn't so bad. Definitely for kids more than Who is, but entertaining and well directed/written, considering.
-
9 days on at work with some of the worst shifts known to mankind! Said that I wouldn't be around much as I have spent every spare moment in the land of nod. One more evening to go and I can have a day off, before another 4 days looms. That's what happens when you agree to "cover shifts"
-

Oh, one thing...................................................
by axcel1
I took a week off from work and I'll be out of town for a few days, going to see my sister and brother-in-law. So, if I'm not on for next couple of days, you know why. Everyone have a great weekend.
-
Keep your head up, man. It can be tough to have no days off. I wish someone nice like you would "cover shifts" for me. It's getting crazy being flaked on for like 4 weeks straight. Soon I'll have to "TAKE" a night off. Because no-one is giving it to me. I hate doing a job that no-one else is trained to do. If you get sick, you hust have to go in anyway. Bad bad bad. Stay strong man.
-
We'll miss ya.
-
Wish me luck. (nah.. they're nice)
-
Oh, you guys are gonna be sooooo jealous :)
There is a store three doors down from my grocery store called Alien Entertainment. I had been in there years ago, but it was all action figures and busts and stuff like that. Then they closed, went out of business. Short after, suddenly, they were back. Looked like they never closed, it was the weirdest thing. Anyways, little birdie told me they had Doctor Who stuff, so I went to check it out. Little birdie failed to tell me that a quarter of the store was Doctor Who stuff! I get there and there's an entire wall of Doctor Who books, a double-sided rack of figures, TARDISes, sonic screwdrivers, Daleks, two racks of Big Finish Audios, t-shirts, collector plates, posters, and the Doctor Who Magazine... TWO DAYS after it came out in the UK (for those unaware, it usually takes 2-4 weeks for DWM to make its way to this area)! They had stuff I'd never even heard of... like an 11th Doctor sonic screwdriver that projects images.
I'm pretty sure I died and went to heaven :) -

So, we have Sarah Jane starting soon, as Axcel points out with, the highlight being the return of Katy Manning in the role of Jo Grant, and the words Death of the Doctor as the title!!!!!! Not much news surfacing about series 6/7 apart from the split season/series news! - Not sure what this means unless it is some contractual bollocks and the beeb escaping contractual obligations in a very devious manner! Alledgely! Oh and the last thing is, Who is Brill! and i am envious of Frozen and her local store discovery! :)Wasnt going to have technical difficulties with this post but i spent so long i thought i would! Ps Where is the Choppah????????

That sounds SO cool. But remember, I have a store that has English imported foods and CANDY. You still win though. lol. Especially am interested in the projecting Sonic.

I'm alive and well! Sorry for my absence... been working a ton and then spending a lot of my time at my folks' house. My poor Dad is declining rapidly and they have him on oxygen 24/7 now. His two sisters from Ireland have arrived and his brother arrives on Tuesday. It's been a pretty sad time in this boy's life. Other than that I'm surviving and keeping my chin up as best as I can. I just got the first few seasons of the Sarah Jane stuff... maybe I'll lose myself in that for a few hours this weekend. Missed yo all! Glad you're all well!!!!
-
Those velvet crunch bars or whatever they are, are a dream. Honeycomb with chocolate on it. Heavenly. Literally melts in your mouth.
-
My thoughts are with you. Do keep your chin up.
-
How goes it?
-
ahem.. I mean "Me and Orson Welles". Pretty darned good, really. Didn't realize it was a Linklater film. Impressive job he did with it. Great cast. Great story. I'm fascinated with that period in Welles' life. Recommended.
-
You get so busy for so long and life throws a day alone at you, with time to do whatever you want, and all you can do is sit around watching movies? Frustrating. But alright, I guess. I just have so many things I'd normally want to do if I'd had this time planned. "Greenburg" was ok. Not as good as I'd expected. But it LOOKED good. Another good cast. But it felt a bit flat to me and left me wondering why they bothered.
-
I read. On Coppola not liking 3d: "I propose that we show our solidarity for the anti-3D movement by walking around all day with one eye closed. Suck it third dimension!" -montyBest comment on 3d ever.
-
Just finished it. Damn good show! Has anyone seen the American version, out of curiosity?
-
Sorry to hear about all that. Hang in there!
-
I had one of those days today. Had the whole day free, and was going to catch up on some chores and hang out with a friend, but then, for the VERY FIRST time in my entire life... I wake up with a hangover. Slept a good portion of the day, and then finished Life on Mars. I dunno, maybe a day doing nothing was exactly what I needed? Feels like a waste!

Hey, I'm back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
by axcel1
Ok, 1.) Simon, since I don't live in the UK, I can't download any of the Doctor Who games and b.) Frozen Renee, I wish I had store near me that was one quarter Doctor Who stuff. And, don't forget, "Caprica" returns in 2 weeks. Ok, the previews look interesting, if the first half of the season is on DVD, I will play catch up and watch it.

"The Sarah Jane Adventures" starts Oct. 11, which means we get the Doctor sooner than the Xmas Special. I hope Matt Smith makes a full appearance on it like David Tennant did and not just make a cameo appearance.

and a little weird. Damn I miss my Toblerone.

You can if you have a PC. It's not free, but it's pretty cheap. http://tinyurl.com/246zj67
"BBC Worldwide are currently offering a PC-only version and are considering a Mac version for future release."
Looking forward to Caprica and Supernatural. House and Castle have been disappointing so far. -
Mac users, write to the BBC and tell them to release the Adventure games in NA for Mac!
http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/dw/theadventuregames
Go here, then click to download a game. If you are outside of the UK, instead of beginning the download, it will automatically bring up a screen with links to buy the game, and below that will be an email address. Write them and tell them we want the Adventure games for Mac! -
The latest episode of one of my favorite Doctor Who audio dramas is out... and it features clockwork and steam-powered robots! Steampunk and Doctor Who? Yes, yes, YES!
BrokenSea audio dramas can be downloaded from iTunes for free, and if you haven't already checked them out, shame on you ;) -

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction for the games, I'm downloading them now. I have the first 4 episodes of Caprica, I'll be watching them very soon. The birth of the Cylons would be interesting to see.

Tell me what you think of the games... and Caprica. I hope you enjoy!

Where is our Fearless Leader? Simon, as Co-Leader, you may have to take over as our new Leader of the Who pack. Our Leader has not commented here since Sunday.

Just finished watching the unrated extended DVD of "Caprica". Don't take this as an insult to the show, but, it was both interesting and boring at the same time. Maybe it gets better. I liked how they showed the origin of "There is a plan." and "So say we all." I'll be watching the rest over this weekend.
-
Are you suggesting a coup d'etat?

Lets just hope Gman is ok! :)

All joking aside, Simon.........................................
by axcel1
if you or Renee have any other way to get in touch with him, can either one of you check on him? Like I said before, I hope he's ok.
-
I sent him a message on FB. No response, but I don't think he checks it that often.
-
No offense taken. The pacing is slow. I think the story, the world, and visuals are very good, and worth the slow pacing. You get used to that very quickly.
-
Hihi! Sorry I missed you.
Oh, I'm supposed to ask you to remind me what you all call jello shots again :) Believe it or not, these sorts of things do come up in conversation! I have weird friends :) -
I was watching "A Study in Pink" during lunch today. <3!
