Louis C.K.'s aptly titled concert film HILARIOUS to screen theatrically one night only!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. After nearly dislodging a rib from laughing so hard at this film when it premiered at Sundance I was really hoping it'd usher in a new wave of theatrical comedy concert films. I think it's a real untapped market and a blown opportunity. I love watching movies at home, but watching a comedy concert with an audience makes all the difference in the world. Laughter is infectious. Eddie Murphy, Richard Pryor and Bill Cosby all had fantastic concert films and then it kind of died out, giving us only those redneck comedy tours in the theaters. And they don't count because I'm talking about comedy concerts, which requires the material to actually be funny. So, while my dreams of Louis CK's HILARIOUS reaching 2000 screens weren't realized, they are doing a special one night only theatrical screening September 8th in eight American cities. Those cities are Austin, Boston, Chicago, LA, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Washington DC. EW has the full line-up with ticket info. If you're not in one of those cities, sucks, but at least you can catch it if you have cable. Epix is running the concert film on the 18th. PS I talked to the man himself about this flick way back in January. Check out the interview by clicking here if you missed it first time around! -Quint quint@aintitcool.com Follow Me On Twitter

So, has his TV show been renewed yet?

Austin should not be included with the "major cities"
by andrew coleman
Bull shit that big cities like Columbus Ohio or Pittsburgh don't get these but Austin does. Oh well I love living in LA I get to go to all of these things.
-
He's tops in my book.
-
I've been watching his FX show every week. It's pretty damn good. Louie got tea bagged by Stephen Roote in the last episode. Really.
-
But still...
-
really fast. Gave up on it; a shame really.
-
Louie is the greatest comedian working today.
-
Might go back next day for this.
-
Started off pretty good and could have been fantastic, but unfortunately turned out pretty shitty...
-
Fucking Hilarious! You stupid bastards don't like anything. I hope you all die! "Louie started off pretty good, BUT" -- but what you fucking dumb shit? You mother fuckers (and I say that because I hope you get caught fucking your mother) don't deserve to breathe. Go eat poison.
-
He needs an HBO show or Showtime and go the way Danny McBride went.
-
One of the funniest things going.
-
because your a convicted asshole! Get a life you twisted pervert!

He went the way danny mcbride did and got cancelled
by canvasseamonkey
-
...were both renewed for second seasons. What are you getting at?
-
it's okay. it's funny because Louie is the funniest half Mexican/half Jew atheist-leaning misanthrope of our time but it feels like he's just going through the motions on the program
-
...his sporadically funny cancelled HBO sitcom, not "Louie."
-
You know, Spike Lee's film. Pre-dates and appeared to precipitate the blue collar tour.

Qunit did you actually watch the Blue collar comedy tour. I didn't, and I suspect most of the people who take shots at it haven't either. I don't understand why my Coastal Comrades feel the need to take cheap shots at art they haven't bother to experience.
-
He's one of those comedians who doesn't have to try to be funny, he just is. He has the funny gene.
-
BOTH of his shows were tepid non-starters. Despite the online nerds desperately insisting that this man can tell a joke, I have still yet to see him utter one line o' funny. Sorry, kiddies, but "Louie" has nothing on today's best working comedian: Eddie Izzard.
-
We Austinites can assure you...we love that you're in L.A. too. And not here.
-
I like them both. Why so hostile? That's just like... your opinion, man.
-
Seriously dude.
-
You're one of those "the only REAL humor is british humor." You prob. like monty python too.
-
. . . who is funny? What is funny? We're all waiting.
-
That dude is funny.

One night only? Man is he getting screwed on that deal
by impossibledreamers
Pryor and Murphy's movies ran for a long while and made real money. Hope Louis got paid well up front.
-
...but when it hits it's pee your pants funny.
-
...but I am going to be. If you expect constant hilarity out of 'Louie', you DON'T GET IT. It's not a show built on a laugh a minute. It involves some very heavy themes and the humor comes with the situations. If the situation is too intense for a humorous scene (because it would disctract), then Louie doesn't go there. It feels honest to me in a way that most comedy shows don't. Get with it or get out.
-
I'd liken the humor of Louie to the film Blue Collar.
-
You're one of those cynics who can't appreciate anything that a mass audience appreciates, so you hate on it to be different right? Eddie Izzard is funny, but in the end he's just another brit comedian like ricky gervais or jon oliver. I know namedropping obscure comedians to look cool may be a hot spot in your circle of friends but on here you're just another cynical troll trying to be different.
-
Kill yourself.
-
Like how miserable he and Nick are as aging comedians. Or, hanging out with that bully's father, sharing a smoke.
Yes the funny is pure funny, but the sad can be pretty great too.
-
Eddie Izzard an obscure comedian? What rock in Unfunnyland have you been living under? I have to agree with Gruntybear that Eddie is the best comedian working today.
That said, Louis C.K. is indeed hilarious and I'm enjoying his new show immensely. Too bad I don't live in a big enough city to see this concert movie. Oh well, the internet will provide...
-
The opening of the, I think it was the 2nd episode (where they're playing cards talking about the word "faggot") was jaw-droppingly honest. Onaps is 100% correct... the episode from a couple of weeks ago when he's on a date and gets hassled by that teenager was in turns hysterical, uncomfortable, creepy and hysterical again. I mean, honestly, who the fuck would (spoiler warning, just in case)

follow a kid home to talk to his parents like that? Then wind up sharing a smoke with his old man? that was great stuff.
And whichever talkbacker previously said Louie can't be himself on cable obviously missed the "cunt" episode a few weeks ago.
P.S.- not that anyone cares, but I'm a huge fan of both Louis C.K. AND Eddie Izzard.
-
I'm a fan of Izzard, but right now, at this very moment, Louis CK is the best comic around. The second half of the first season of "Louie" hasn't been as funny as the first half -- they seem to be taking a cue from The Office and relying on awkward situations to fill-in for actual comedy -- but I'm still a big fan. Would love to see him perform live.
-
I love his tragic and self-deprecating sense of humor. It makes you laugh, then it makes you depressed, and then it makes you laugh again. Louie really blurs the boundaries.
-
got nyc tickets just now.
-
Reality is complicated. I love Izzard and CK. There are many, many professional comedians and comics who love both, as well, clearly negating your opinion of CK ("I hate this comic" is an inarguable statement of fact, while "this comic is not funny" is generally demonstrably untrue). But, there are many professional comics who hate either CK or Izzard (though, in my experience, CK is favored by professionals over Izzard). It's crazy, huh? We all like what we like and when we grow up we stop telling other people that they're wrong for liking stuff we don't.
-
I know he pretty much hates middlemen in his business. Ticket sales through Ticketmaster sure make it look like he's renting the theaters himself.
-
"Louie" is an awesome show. I haven't liked some of the wackier and less relatable episodes- like the one with his mother- as much, but overall I love that show. It's so cathartic to know that someone shares my depression and general disgust with everything, and to see this worldview expressed in such a hilarious way. And the use of "Brother Louie" as the theme song is inspired. Also, British stand up comics are all terrible. They can do sketch comedy extremely well but I find their stand-up to be unwatchable. Also, Ron White from the Blue Collar Comedy Tour is not bad, but the others are all awful.
-
Fuck, how am I supposed to buy tickets and make plans for something less than 2 weeks away like that?!? And what the hell, Wednesday, that's not a comedy event night. There should be like a 2 week engagement at a premiere movie house. And it's not like Louis is gonna be in LA live for a while either, not until fucking DECEMBER, and that's a THURSDAY!!!
-
I don't know why they included that bit about kidnappers having sex with kids. That was just too fucked up. If he has managed to make a good joke out of it, it might possibly have been funny, but he went out on this sort of 'lesser of two evils' thing, which just didn't work.
Otherwise, I've found his show great. Depressing at times, and usually very honest.
-
Are you fucking kidding me? Eddie Izzard is about as funny as putting your cock in an Indian's mouth. You're an asshole.
-
The bit with the heckler and his "our lives suck except the 7-8 minutes a night we get on stage" monologue was perfect. Almost had her.
-
That's kind of the point. When it wants to be funny, it hits hard. But when it wants to be real, it hits harder. It's a great show in every level.
-
Theres a reason Louis CK is doing better than eddie, in fact the both of them are friends. Louis is better by far, british comedy has never and will never be better than american comedy. Simply because american comedy is more relatable over the silly words and phrases of brit comedy. It seems everyone else here agrees.
