AICN Screening of CATFISH this Tuesday August 31st at Alamo South @ 7:30pm

Published at:  Sep 03, 2010 12:43:31 AM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here with one of the most mysterious films that came out of Sundance. I've been told the less you know going in, the better - and all I know is Catfish is good eating. That - and crazy folks use their arms to fish for Catfish and call it noodling. I call that sick. I mean, using one's own arm for bait is just a bad idea, I feel. I'm just saying that even this trailer that I'm embedding - I haven't seen.

And we're having as guests, Nev Schulman, Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost for a Q&A after the film.

So how do you get in? I will be overbooking this slightly to get as full a house as possible, so this is first come, first served. Send an email to HK at AintItCool.Com with the following, exact, subject line:

I WILL NEVER USE MY OWN ARM FOR BAIT TO CATCH A CATFISH!!!

Now - that's the EXACT subject line. All caps like that, with the 3 exclamation point. If it isn't exact, it won't end up in the right folder - and we want it to be the right folder, right? Right.

Include your name and the names of your guest, up to two additional guests.

Check back here Sunday to see if you're on the list. And stay tune for the other two special screenings this coming week.

Harry

Fantastic, absorbing film that is easily one of the best films I've seen in 2010. Big question, is it REAL?

Did some reading up on this after seing the trailer and the film

    by stormwatcher

After a screening one audience member expressed his feelings that it was more mokumentary and the film makers who (SPOILER) are actually also actors, basically acted like dickheads trying to make fun of the guy but actually coming across as total A-holes..don't take my word..google catfish movie reviews...the word on the street is unless these guys are totally stupid...they knew what they were doing..they were baiting a deranged, sad woman and knew what they were going to find...why else ambush her in the middle of the night? This is just another fake documentary made on the cheap and sold to some 'not as hip or smart as they think' movie executives as a BUZZ BUZZ movie that will make little money..be exposed for the fraud it is and quickly be forgotten... in case you are wondering its not a horror twist like the trailer makes it seem. Just mean guys taking advantage of a lonely woman.

    You know it's fake right?

    by derrida77

And it's got Brett Ratner attached to it. Why on earth would you want to see it?

I saw the film tonight (same place as MattoxMarch), and there isn't anything mean or hurtful about how the guys go about things. It's definitely worth your time. Well, that is if you ever take a moment to stop spouting nonsense.

    Stormwatcher Part 2

    by plumtree

Agree with Cerpin. Instead of jumping to conclusions about the movie - see it - and then decide what it is. Go to Harry's screening next week with the three filmmakers and ask them directly. If there wasn't truth in it - it seems unlikely they'd expose themselves so publicly before the film comes out.

I'm actually friends with the filmmakers and haven't seen it yet. All my friends have seen it and love it. Can't wait to see it. I think it will be the sleeper hit of the fall.

The whole fucking thing, bunch of build up to ABSOLUTELY FUCKING NOTHING! Don't fall for these assholes and their absolute waste of time, piece of shit movie. Once the word gets out on it, expect these douchebags to have a hard fucking time finding another job.

Did you have something to do with the production? If so, I can see you going out of your way to defend this bullshit shitfest, but other than that, you're completely full of shit.

Spot on, man. There's nothing 'real' about this manufactured piece of crap. How they managed to get anyone to fall for this bullshit is completely beyond me.

    The premise...

    by confusedpanda

is certainly interesting, yet I agree that it seems to be a sham even if the boys consciously choose to ignore the many, many ways they could have discovered on day one that this person on the internet wasn't as she seemed. For example, I will admit to searching persons' names on Google in less significant situations. Technology has become part of people's social lives these days, and a film that seems to be built from this fact seems oddly ignorant of technology.

It's not Hitchcockian or a thriller or scary. Buyer beware.
