Mr Jingles takes a toke at LIGHT IT UP!

Published at:  Nov 03, 1999 1:56:40 AM CST

Alright folks... here is a movie that we haven't heard too much about... but I'm inclined to take a look at any and all Forest Whitaker films. So check out what ol Mr Jingles has to say... after all... he's been around for quite some time and will be for a long time to come... or so I've heard tell. Here he is...

Harry:

I was torn between an evening at the roller rink last night and having a date with "Miss
Unachievable" last night. Just a friend who I've been trying to hook up with for a while, but
it seems like whenever she's invited me out, its always been with a group of friends. Last
night, though, she wanted to go see an advance screeing of "Light It Up" because it stars Usher
Raymond, who she said she once dated in fifth grade.
Anyway, I was less interested in her history than being a part of her future, so I dissed the
rink and went to the movies.
I expected, and hoped for the movie to be dull and boring so I could put some moves on the
girl, but unfortuantely, it wasn't. Those piss poor TV ads don’t do it justice.

The movie is
about some high school kids who end up revolting after a favorite teacher is fired, and end up
accidentally shooting a cop, and take him hostage. The ads I’ve seen make it look like the kids
are a bunch of militants, but the film really sets the whole thing up in a believable way that
really has you empathize and root for the heroes.

The camera work is really cool, kinda like NYPD Blue, documentary style, and a few bad ass
songs, even if 'NSync is at the end. Most distracting was one of the stars, Rosario Dawson, who
looked a little like my date. Whenever the movie would slow down enough for me begin tracing my
date’s bare arm with my fingertips - part of my M.O. - there'd be some stressin' twist on
screen. Not a lotta gunfire, though, which kept it more realistic than becoming some bad "Die
Hard" knock off. As much as I was fearing it might become, there was never a a hokey eulogy or
expositional message. More “187” than “Dangerous Minds”, but superior to both. Really a great
film.

Anyway, my date really liked it too, and was pretty flattered when I told her she looked a
little like Rosario...only prettier. It was a little bit of a lie, but she didn't notice. The
result? A nice long kiss before she dropped me off at home.

Call me MrJingles.

ARE ALL THE WHITE TALBACKERS RACIST PIECES OF TRASH?!?

    by citizen bane

That's the question I pose to the vast majority of Caucasian posters out there... if I wanna hear some of the most backwards, venomous, ignorant, and confused statements(that have the nerve to hide behind an intellectual facade) all I have to do is come to any tidbit Harry puts up that has to do with Blacks-- I mean anything... I guess the collective overmind you guys share tell you to dislike anything Spike Lee, John Singleton, the Hughes Bros., and actually any other African-American related directors(or subjects) attempt to release to the moviegoing public-- forget whether the product's good or not...DUMB(emphasis on the DUMB)WHITE TALKBACKER IN MOVIE THEATRE:"Man, this movie seems like it might be good--uh-oh-- too many Black people in it-- I don't want to be attacked by them or confused by the ebonics of those pesky Negroes..." Now is this really exaggeration or is this how a lot of you posters feel? I read so many posts that reveled in stupid, racist remarks-- but are any of you man(or woman) enough to back them up in public?

    Probably not...
