Most horror is hard to take seriously. Ghosts, aliens, giant sharks, reannimated dead, possession, etc;. Even the most gritty torture-porn "realistic" horror usually collapses under the weight of its own contrivences upon thoughtful examination. For horror to work, it requires a certain amoount of suspension of disbelief.
