CAPTAIN AMERICA's USO Set caught on Video!

Published at:  Aug 17, 2010 5:29:25 PM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here with a quick little video from the set of CAPTAIN AMERICA with a pretty "Boss" soundtrack... giggle. I have to say - the production design is looking about as I would hope. I just wish they were shooting with WHITE CHRISTMAS technicolor - I'll never forget that USO scene at the start of that pic. I really am amazed that we're getting a WWII Captain America movie from the director of THE ROCKETEER. That's just... perfect. Here's the video - click the link below to see various stills from the set! Thanks goes out to HeyUGuys.co.UK for dropping us a line. Very cool indeed.

Hi Guys,

They were filming Captain America in the National Park in the county near where I live in so I went along to check it out. I've put photos and the first video footage up here if you're interested.

A lot of the set pieces have now gone but the tents, USO stage and a Sherman tank were still on location.

Check it out here: I mean right here!

Thanks.

Dave

I almost had a seizure until I stopped and remembered the soundtrack was added by whomever filmed that, not the director. Major sigh of relief. Then again, he's still got time to screw it up. Avengers wont bomb.you should have already gotten

    by killik

your clue from the Expendables.even if its a terrible movie,Avengers will be a hit.and i bet that Avengers, though it will have a better story and better team-members/team-work development than the Expendables,it will eventually suffer from similar problems as Expendables did,the severity of which will mainly depend on the success of the Cap and Thor movies.ie If both movies flop, you can bet your ass that Downey Jr is going to be the main protagonist of the Avengers film, overshadowing the Avengers members and even Cap who is supposed to be the leader of the team.If both movies become a hit, then there will be a mess since all of the three stars will want equal time in the movie, overshadowing ofc in the most degree the rest of the Avenger characters and the rest of the movie's character (the villain characters, the supportive characters etc)if only one of the movies flop then the things depend on which movie flops. If its Thor that flops then the things will be easier for the Marvel studio. It will be cheaper for them to use Thor in the movie and give him less screen time, and if the actor argues, then they can replace him with another. They already did that with Norton and Hulk.IM and Cap will be fine in the movie together, but they will still overshadow the rest of the Avengers team-members.If its Cap that flops, then there is a problem.Cap is the leader of the Avengers team.you cant give him less screen time than Thor because the actor wont have much commercial appeal for the audience.and you cant replace him because,if the Hulk-Norton incident didnt annoy the fans, then you can bet that the replacement of the actor and his overshadowing in the movie will infuriate the fans.it will be tricky for Marvel to pull this out without causing negative reaction to the movie.Expendables might not be a very good movie about a team, its members and their team-work,but it is a good example of what to expect in the Avengers movie if things wont turn out as Marvel is planning them and regardless if the talented mr Whedon is writing/directing it.because movies are not comics.

January Jones is Emma Frost Zoe Kravitz as Angel (WTF?!?)

    by aka_gern_blanston

In X-Men:First Class. First, I thought Alice Eve was Emma Frost, so if JJ is, then who is Eve playing? Second, the daughter of Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet is playing Angel?!? I stopped reading comics back in the early 90's, but I always remember Angel as a man, even when he was Archangel. Did Marvel change his gender like they changed Nick Fury's skin tone or something? How in the hell does a female get cast as Angel? source: comingsoon.net

And...the military(and the firsctor of the movie) decide it makes sense to assign him to the USO? Again....NO PART OF THAT MAKES SENSE!!!!! How about going with the story/origin thats been popular in the comics for the last 60 years? Is 60 years of history not worth anything? Especially when its being traded in for the opportunity to tell a lame joke at the characters expense? How can anyone be in favor of this? That A on his head doesnt stand for asinine either.

Shooting in the U.K is cheaper, but the standards in our good studios are the same as Hollywood.

That's not to brag, because we don't have much of a film industry to be honest. But the big studios are great & the technical guys have all worked on Bond movies, Superman, Indiana Jones, Burton's Batman, the original Star Wars movies etc. All of those were made in the U.K & most of the technicians are still around & working.

So, it's not just cost effective, but the quality shouldn't drop. In theory.

Knights (Medieval & Dark) & Cap

    by hongkongcavalier

"Knights Tale" wasn't a typical period piece, so I can't see the reason for any angst over using a rock soundtrack. Using Bowie & Queen took what was REALLY a chick flick and made it an acceptable date flick.
"The Dark Knight" ... *sigh* ... where to begin?
Oh yeah, how about: yer friggin' daft to say Ledger was overrated in this film. Of the three most famous to play that role (Romero, Nicholson, & Ledger), Heath kicked their asses sideways.
My wife is a clinical psychologist and even she was amazed at how he captured the mannerisms, the tics, the speech patterns of a genius sociopath. She's the one who pointed out to me that the only time you saw the REAL Joker was when he growled at the wannabe vigilante in the video.
meh ... wtfever. To each his own, but still, bashing TDK why people are called "fanbois" and constantly portrayed to be real life "Comic Book Guys".
Captain America is probably the riskiest superhero movie than can be made to date.
The studio is banking on global box office; however ... let's face it ... we're not exactly the most popular country these days. To make a movie (AND the subsequent Avengers) where the central superhero is the epitome of America (right down to the Red, White, & Blue costume) is the definition of "risky" financially.
Aside from insisting on casting a pretty boy ... aside from insisting on adjusting the character's history/origins for the sake of translation to film ... what you have is an AMERICAN Super Soldier who, just VISUALLY, screams "America #1" louder than any "America! Fuck Yeah!" could ever scream.
Now don't get me wrong ... I enjoy a superhero movie as next as the next guy who used to collect them religiously; even those cheesy/campy clusterfucks like Reb Brown's version of Cap. But that doesn't mean I don't see the huge risk with this character.
Of course, making a Cap movie is a no-brainer if you even want to dream about making an Avengers movie; but like someone else posted: dividing the screen time is gonna be a bitch.
ps: that video, while I appreciate the attempt, really had little impact ... somewhere between a wet fart and stubbing your little toe

That's interesting. I read (or saw in a documentary somewhere, don't really remember) how closely Ledger's performance was to a real sociopath, with his oral fixation (licking his lips), his mumbling and whatnot. If you got the time and mood, do you care to elaborate a little bit more about what your wife as a professional saw and us normal geeks missed? Would be much appreciated... PEACE!

    by southafricanguy

joe johnson as a director, and personally I think hes a good choice for CA (given Marvels penny pinching), and besides the Rocketter is the one single good period superhero film (just look at the shadow and the phantom respectively..or the spirit..yikes!). I also thought Hildago, and October sky were both damn good. Fair enough Jumanji, JP 3 were not so good, while I though the wolfman was solid, entertaining, but very flawed. But I guess we have to forgive him for the fact that he came on late with what was an already troubled production. Anyone else think/have faith in johnson as the director for CA?

Capt America/Black Panther WW2 mini series

    by leo54304

Fury and his howlers task is to take out a underground submarine workyard but are trapped by the nazis. Out of nowhere a guy in a red/white/blue costume appears and says he's here to help. How do the howlers react? Some of the comments were:is the circus in town? someone call the looneybin cuz someones running around in longjohns. That was a pretty realistic reaction I thought from our guys. The nazis probally thought the same thing. Course cap kicks butt and the howlers are like: dammnnnn. Later in the issue we find out why Fury put Gabe Wilson (a black guy) on an elite unit when the military was segregated. As Wilson tells us: Fury was just looking for guys who could kill nazis. Color didn't matter. Also in the same issue, cap joins the howlers for chow on the way back from the mission. Mess hall is closed but cooks scrounge up some food for cap but no utensils are available. Cap is next to Gabe and says no problem, ok if I use yours? Gabe is like ok and cap starts using them w/o washing them. Gabe can't believe a white guy is using his fork/spoon. Whites back then wouldn't touch or use anything a black person did unless they had no choice. So Wilson is left wondering just WHO is this guy. This all happened in issue 1 and worth getting. Rest of series was ok. What was interesting was the BP cap teamed with was T'Challas father, the way the wakandans treated the nazis and the threat T'Chaka makes to Strucker at the end was good. So too was cap trying to convince T'Chaka to have Wakanda join the allies and the invaders as well. T'Chaka saying why his country wouldn't get involved in a european war as well as how he knew so much about cap (panel shows black janitor at lab where Steve is being tested). Was a good mini series and worth checking out.

    by leo54304

Showing how Fury recruited each member ala the above mentioned CA/BP mini where Gabe told us how Fury recruited him. In the classic movie "Dirty Dozen" was excellent how it showed Lee Marvin interviewing each guy for the team where the guy told his side of why he was in the brig with Marvin reading off the official report of the army. It was a nice point/counterpoint sequence. The Dirty Dozen sooo much better than the expendables.

Rev...lol, same here dude. I was able to enjoy

    by southafricanguy

the wolfman simply for what it was. Imho it showed johnson's ability to do period genre films. I think the problems with the wolfman were with the script more than anything, which johnson had nothing to do with, and which was too late for him to do anything about as he got onboard after the film had already started production. Imho, the wolfman's strenghs (good sense of time and place, well done action, a mature sensibility) are totally due to Johnson. So I have faith in him with CA where he can oversee the script from the very begining. Of course we would have all loved to have seen Spielberg tackle this puppy, but we know that would never happen, so imho Johnson is a good substitute....

Plus we don't know the context - I thought it had to do with him being untested in battle at that point in the movie. Who knows? I make you a bet, after the movie, a USO story will show up in the comics. Because it works.

    by malificus

The Rocketeer had a modest budget but Joe spent his cash where it mattered, with a perfect cast and then didn't try to push action where no money existed but kept it modest so that what little was there was solid. He's perfect for a tightwad production, I'm the ultimate Cap fan, so say I.

    by leo54304

just not for me. And the coloring didn't help. Last 2 issues seemed rushed which hurt the story I thought. Also cool was Panther using a round shield, throwing it and cap getting an idea about having a shield like that. Plus his offering it to cap was nice touch. And the debriefing of Fury where his superiors asked about type of things cap was willing or unwilling to do in the field was good also.
