CAPTAIN AMERICA's USO Set caught on Video!
Hey folks, Harry here with a quick little video from the set of CAPTAIN AMERICA with a pretty "Boss" soundtrack... giggle. I have to say - the production design is looking about as I would hope. I just wish they were shooting with WHITE CHRISTMAS technicolor - I'll never forget that USO scene at the start of that pic. I really am amazed that we're getting a WWII Captain America movie from the director of THE ROCKETEER. That's just... perfect. Here's the video - click the link below to see various stills from the set! Thanks goes out to HeyUGuys.co.UK for dropping us a line. Very cool indeed.
Hi Guys,
They were filming Captain America in the National Park in the county near where I live in so I went along to check it out. I've put photos and the first video footage up here if you're interested.
A lot of the set pieces have now gone but the tents, USO stage and a Sherman tank were still on location.
Check it out here: I mean right here!
Thanks.

theyre all gonna laugh at u!

Also, why does his helmet look like a penis?
-
I hated that show.
-
He would have traded stale jokes with Bob Hope on countless TV specials throughout the 70's and probably dated both Marie Osmond and Crystal Gayle.
-
Why are you teasing my cock.
-
Maybe all of the Mandrell sisters, the dog. In any event, cue the hysterical bitching from the fans.
-
This video just got me so hyped to see this movie. I mean, TENTS!!!! Such a huge fan, can't wait!!!!!!!!!
-
Joe Johnston is perfect for vintage era Captain America. I can't imagine a more ideal choice.
And darn it I really dug Wolf Man. Atmospheric and loaded with iconic, timeless moments. I don't understand the hate. -
That's what their logo looks like it says.
-
This footage makes SCOTT PILGRIM look like THE MOST EPIC BLOCKBUSTER HIT OF ALL TIME. It also looks gay. GAY! THIS CLIP RAPED MY SOUL!!! GODDAMN YOU FOR RUINING CAPTAIN AMERICA!!! GODDAMN YOU TO HELL!!!
-
GAY!!! (In case you were wondering, I'm currently channeling the zeitgeist in all it's glory.)DUH!!! TENTS!!! SOOOO GAAAAYYYYY!!!!

He'd say "THAT'S SOOOOO GAY!" and then immediately suck some dudes cock.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: GO HOME. YOU FORGOT TO CHANGE YOUR PANTIES
by jonchambers

I have decided and will not be dissuaded.
-
They should be spending $200+ plus on their major characters and franchises, and not shifting their casts around to save money. This looks budget. Ed Norton for Hulk
-
under. whelming.
About as interesting as drying paint or a parked garbage truck. -
too bad this set visit is like 30 years old.
-
I almost had a seizure until I stopped and remembered the soundtrack was added by whomever filmed that, not the director. Major sigh of relief. Then again, he's still got time to screw it up. I painfully recall the other twit who thought a rock soundtrack was appropriate for a medieval story (A KNIGHT'S TALE) and shudder.
-
He spent seventeen years serving in a war that only lasted 3 years.Small wonder he lost his marbles in the end...
-
Will this movie include BJ Honeycutt?
-
Or the tv series RUN FOR YOUR LIFE which was about a man who was given a year to live, two on the outside, yet lasted for three years with the guy still alive at the end.

This and Thor, both will bomb, Avengers to break even
by performingmonkey
Nobody wants these movies anymore apart from those who regularly bash the bishop to the comics they've had since they were 8-years-old, and they ain't enough to make all these millions back for the studio. No-one asked for a Captain America movie. No-one asked for a fucking Avengers movie, especially one not featuring Edward Norton as Bruce Banner. Jesus H...
-
All of geekry must unite against this movie as they did against that TWILIGHT for boy - Scott Pilgram. It will not be top notch like The Dark Knight which was a truly cereberal effort. It is made by the man who made WOLFENMAN and that is not a good thing my friends. Really, what the fuck man?IN NOLAN WE TRUST!Respect, brothers.

Song blows, but I do like the irony of Ronald "Satan Incarnate" Reagan using it for his campaign when it's an emphatically left-leaning song about soldiers getting fucked over by right wing conservatives. Haha! Funny! Gotta loathe them Repugs.

your clue from the Expendables.even if its a terrible movie,Avengers will be a hit.and i bet that Avengers, though it will have a better story and better team-members/team-work development than the Expendables,it will eventually suffer from similar problems as Expendables did,the severity of which will mainly depend on the success of the Cap and Thor movies.ie If both movies flop, you can bet your ass that Downey Jr is going to be the main protagonist of the Avengers film, overshadowing the Avengers members and even Cap who is supposed to be the leader of the team.If both movies become a hit, then there will be a mess since all of the three stars will want equal time in the movie, overshadowing ofc in the most degree the rest of the Avenger characters and the rest of the movie's character (the villain characters, the supportive characters etc)if only one of the movies flop then the things depend on which movie flops. If its Thor that flops then the things will be easier for the Marvel studio. It will be cheaper for them to use Thor in the movie and give him less screen time, and if the actor argues, then they can replace him with another. They already did that with Norton and Hulk.IM and Cap will be fine in the movie together, but they will still overshadow the rest of the Avengers team-members.If its Cap that flops, then there is a problem.Cap is the leader of the Avengers team.you cant give him less screen time than Thor because the actor wont have much commercial appeal for the audience.and you cant replace him because,if the Hulk-Norton incident didnt annoy the fans, then you can bet that the replacement of the actor and his overshadowing in the movie will infuriate the fans.it will be tricky for Marvel to pull this out without causing negative reaction to the movie.Expendables might not be a very good movie about a team, its members and their team-work,but it is a good example of what to expect in the Avengers movie if things wont turn out as Marvel is planning them and regardless if the talented mr Whedon is writing/directing it.because movies are not comics.
-
Even though all I've seen is (admittedly) awesome artwork. And the director is perfect. And the casting is great. No, it's still going to SUCK!!!!11 Oh and you're all wrong the greatest comic book movie ever did in fact suck. Mostly because I want to come up with some BS reason and have an opinion that like me, is a unique and beautiful snowflake.
And OMG! TESNTS?! PENIS-SHAPED HELMET THAT IS SIMILAR TO WWII DESIGNS?! GAAAYYYY!
Ok I'm done. -
Look at the detail on that tree. REALISM!!!
-
so Stark - RDJ, already established in the Marvel Universe and popular with fans - is leading the Avengers? I'm not saying that's what I want - I'm just questioning whether they would make such drastic changes to the film, based on the individual outings.
-
They could maybe go back and film a few new scenes, or play with the editing to change the balance of the film, but it will be too late for the actors to fight over top billing on set.
-
Best comic book movie of all time--hands down. Sure, the rigged ships device was botched and unbelievable, but I bought and enjoyed every other plot and character element in the film. Just damned fine filmmaking imo.
-

Totally agree, Fishus. It's EASILY the best comic book movie of all time. I also think it's EASILY one of the (not THE, but one of the) best films of the decade.
-
Jon Hamm for Reed Richards?
-
Seems to me Marvel are counting on all of this faling into place and 'working'. With the filming/release schedule as it currently stands, there doesn't seem to be much room for making good on any failures they might come across.

Agreed. I know it's hip to bash TDK (at least on AICN) these days, but I thought it was one of the most fascinating and well made films of the decade as well. And--yeah--Ledger gave one of the best performances I've seen onscreen... period. And I would've felt that way even had he lived.

January Jones is Emma Frost Zoe Kravitz as Angel (WTF?!?)
by aka_gern_blanston
In X-Men:First Class. First, I thought Alice Eve was Emma Frost, so if JJ is, then who is Eve playing? Second, the daughter of Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet is playing Angel?!? I stopped reading comics back in the early 90's, but I always remember Angel as a man, even when he was Archangel. Did Marvel change his gender like they changed Nick Fury's skin tone or something? How in the hell does a female get cast as Angel? source: comingsoon.net
-
Did Angel become a black woman in the comics? I'm guessing so, since they seem to be filling this movie with characters created in the last ten years after I stopped reading comics.
-
there are two angels. One is warren the other is a girl named Angel who is basically a giant human/bug. she had babies by Beak.
-
Bad casting news day. Ugh. This project is getting worse. Just make Beast into a wisecracking CGI farm animal and be done with it.
-
you want GOOD movie news today? Check out my post on Harry's DVD column about all the amazing films Criterion is putting out in November. I read those and my November just got real expensive.
-
and you'd think it was a crime story. Basically its a city and defenders under seige by an enemy they can't comprehend or deal with w/o compromising their principles. Same with Iron Man, if you didn't know the character, you'd think it was about a real smart guy building an armor suit to get his freedom/revenge on the bad guys who hurt him.
-
January Jones is more Invisible Woman than White Queen.Leave it to FOX and Rothman to continue to fuck up Marvel's best superhero team IMO. Since this movie films in the fall for a June 2011 release, expect shitty costumes and shitty f/x.BUY BACK THE RIGHTS TO THE X-MEN DISNEY!
-
in the 616 costume (WITH WINGS) that he should be wearing in these films. Joe Johnston and Chris Evans are the reason this movie is going to fail. (Haley Atwell has a nice rack though.)Will Marvel Studios make RDJ the leader of the Avengers when the Captain PC movie fails?
-
CREEPY!
-
I had hoped that was disinfo...or something that would get cut. So,the plot is,America creates the ultimate Super-Soldier and then because he's the only one and they cant make another....they assign him to the USO circuit with dancing girls and Bob Hope? NO PART OF THAT MAKES SENSE!!!!!!
-
embarrassment with the source material. Absolutely unnecessary considering there are photos of U.S. troops reading superhero comics in theater during WWII. Many of them were kids, remember. I saw a pic of my uncle in his uniform from the time; he was 17 and still looked like a kid.
-
actually the whole part of the USO makes complete sense. why would america risk there only super soldier when they can get other scientists to backwards engineer the formula from studying him. if he dies then they cant make more. plus, how do you explain him dressing up like a flag and running around a battle field with a shield? the USO idea is the only way.
-
The Ultimate soldier? I real, honest to goodness Superhero who represents everything America stands for and is willing to fight for us during our darkest hour? And...the military(and the firsctor of the movie) decide it makes sense to assign him to the USO? Again....NO PART OF THAT MAKES SENSE!!!!! How about going with the story/origin thats been popular in the comics for the last 60 years? Is 60 years of history not worth anything? Especially when its being traded in for the opportunity to tell a lame joke at the characters expense? How can anyone be in favor of this? That A on his head doesnt stand for asinine either.
-
He was in all those wars.

Period-inappropriate font on the banner over the stage

A banner like that would have been hand-lettered by a signpainter. It wouldn't have been Arial or Helvetica bold condensed. Just nitpicking.

Harry WTF about your Inception review? It seems we have to plant you the idea that Inception is a masterpiece after all.
-
do they fabricate that stuff on demand or is it shipped? Looked like it had it's own moniker stenciled onto it which is a nice touch.
-
but they probably have plenty of them still sitting around from FDR's secret resupply of them prior to the USA's entrance into WWII. And what's the cost incentive of shooting in the UK anyway? Everything's cheaper than Hollywook, sure, but the UK?
-
And look how that turned out.
-
Yeah, 2 movies in, and it's already tired.
-
WOW!!! PICTURES OF MUD, TENTS, A TANK AND...AND....TREES!
Lord Fuck A Duck, after a mind-blower like THAT, I'm so fucking hard for this movie. -
...you've been warned:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFHBtu6Nb40&playnext=1&videos=jE5rl88558U -
Shooting in the U.K is cheaper, but the standards in our good studios are the same as Hollywood.
That's not to brag, because we don't have much of a film industry to be honest. But the big studios are great & the technical guys have all worked on Bond movies, Superman, Indiana Jones, Burton's Batman, the original Star Wars movies etc. All of those were made in the U.K & most of the technicians are still around & working.
So, it's not just cost effective, but the quality shouldn't drop. In theory. -
Well, fuck. With lighting like that, Abigail Breslin would look like an axe murderer.
-
So it's all systems go, no changes and no turning back now.
-
The First Captain America!
-
I used to live out in the boondocks, and there was a dirt road by the woods near my house... it looked EXACTLY like this! They could've filmed it there for cryin' out loud.
-
That song....
-
That wasn't disturbing at all, just sad.
-
Now: "Avengers will suck!". You will be proven wrong... again. Just wait!
-
"Knights Tale" wasn't a typical period piece, so I can't see the reason for any angst over using a rock soundtrack. Using Bowie & Queen took what was REALLY a chick flick and made it an acceptable date flick.
"The Dark Knight" ... *sigh* ... where to begin?
Oh yeah, how about: yer friggin' daft to say Ledger was overrated in this film. Of the three most famous to play that role (Romero, Nicholson, & Ledger), Heath kicked their asses sideways.
My wife is a clinical psychologist and even she was amazed at how he captured the mannerisms, the tics, the speech patterns of a genius sociopath. She's the one who pointed out to me that the only time you saw the REAL Joker was when he growled at the wannabe vigilante in the video.
meh ... wtfever. To each his own, but still, bashing TDK why people are called "fanbois" and constantly portrayed to be real life "Comic Book Guys".
Captain America is probably the riskiest superhero movie than can be made to date.
The studio is banking on global box office; however ... let's face it ... we're not exactly the most popular country these days. To make a movie (AND the subsequent Avengers) where the central superhero is the epitome of America (right down to the Red, White, & Blue costume) is the definition of "risky" financially.
Aside from insisting on casting a pretty boy ... aside from insisting on adjusting the character's history/origins for the sake of translation to film ... what you have is an AMERICAN Super Soldier who, just VISUALLY, screams "America #1" louder than any "America! Fuck Yeah!" could ever scream.
Now don't get me wrong ... I enjoy a superhero movie as next as the next guy who used to collect them religiously; even those cheesy/campy clusterfucks like Reb Brown's version of Cap. But that doesn't mean I don't see the huge risk with this character.
Of course, making a Cap movie is a no-brainer if you even want to dream about making an Avengers movie; but like someone else posted: dividing the screen time is gonna be a bitch.
ps: that video, while I appreciate the attempt, really had little impact ... somewhere between a wet fart and stubbing your little toe -
Wowzers...

flashbacks in the early part of the Brubaker/Epting run.

Sherman tanks? I can get you a Sherman, believe me. There are ways, Dude. You don't wanna know about it, believe me. Hell, I can get you a Sherman by 3 o'clock this afternoon... These fucking amateurs...
Actually...I can't still can't beleive we're getting a WW2 Captain America film. -
That's interesting. I read (or saw in a documentary somewhere, don't really remember) how closely Ledger's performance was to a real sociopath, with his oral fixation (licking his lips), his mumbling and whatnot. If you got the time and mood, do you care to elaborate a little bit more about what your wife as a professional saw and us normal geeks missed? Would be much appreciated... PEACE!
-
joe johnson as a director, and personally I think hes a good choice for CA (given Marvels penny pinching), and besides the Rocketter is the one single good period superhero film (just look at the shadow and the phantom respectively..or the spirit..yikes!). I also thought Hildago, and October sky were both damn good. Fair enough Jumanji, JP 3 were not so good, while I though the wolfman was solid, entertaining, but very flawed. But I guess we have to forgive him for the fact that he came on late with what was an already troubled production. Anyone else think/have faith in johnson as the director for CA?
-
film dude, I know people that would specifically not watch it because it would seem too jingoistic to them, or just because they are very wary of anything American....I am very curious how this film is gonna play internationally...
-
I remember watching it and thinking "I bet this guy'll make a good Captain America film." But then, I'm not full of weird, virginal nerd rage.

Fury and his howlers task is to take out a underground submarine workyard but are trapped by the nazis. Out of nowhere a guy in a red/white/blue costume appears and says he's here to help. How do the howlers react? Some of the comments were:is the circus in town? someone call the looneybin cuz someones running around in longjohns. That was a pretty realistic reaction I thought from our guys. The nazis probally thought the same thing. Course cap kicks butt and the howlers are like: dammnnnn. Later in the issue we find out why Fury put Gabe Wilson (a black guy) on an elite unit when the military was segregated. As Wilson tells us: Fury was just looking for guys who could kill nazis. Color didn't matter. Also in the same issue, cap joins the howlers for chow on the way back from the mission. Mess hall is closed but cooks scrounge up some food for cap but no utensils are available. Cap is next to Gabe and says no problem, ok if I use yours? Gabe is like ok and cap starts using them w/o washing them. Gabe can't believe a white guy is using his fork/spoon. Whites back then wouldn't touch or use anything a black person did unless they had no choice. So Wilson is left wondering just WHO is this guy. This all happened in issue 1 and worth getting. Rest of series was ok. What was interesting was the BP cap teamed with was T'Challas father, the way the wakandans treated the nazis and the threat T'Chaka makes to Strucker at the end was good. So too was cap trying to convince T'Chaka to have Wakanda join the allies and the invaders as well. T'Chaka saying why his country wouldn't get involved in a european war as well as how he knew so much about cap (panel shows black janitor at lab where Steve is being tested). Was a good mini series and worth checking out.
-
Showing how Fury recruited each member ala the above mentioned CA/BP mini where Gabe told us how Fury recruited him. In the classic movie "Dirty Dozen" was excellent how it showed Lee Marvin interviewing each guy for the team where the guy told his side of why he was in the brig with Marvin reading off the official report of the army. It was a nice point/counterpoint sequence. The Dirty Dozen sooo much better than the expendables.
-
the wolfman simply for what it was. Imho it showed johnson's ability to do period genre films. I think the problems with the wolfman were with the script more than anything, which johnson had nothing to do with, and which was too late for him to do anything about as he got onboard after the film had already started production. Imho, the wolfman's strenghs (good sense of time and place, well done action, a mature sensibility) are totally due to Johnson. So I have faith in him with CA where he can oversee the script from the very begining. Of course we would have all loved to have seen Spielberg tackle this puppy, but we know that would never happen, so imho Johnson is a good substitute....
-
If this is a clip from the Cap movie they are making WTF! Where are all the actors?

Flag of our fathers was a good read. However, the art kinda sucked.Hudlin is a force to be reckoned with especially after watching the animated black panther series a few months back.

...those old school sign painters could really churn out some amazing stuff. I've known some of those old dudes and you could name a font and they could pop a couple of chalk guidelines, pencil in the words and brush in almost perfect letterforms from memory.

just because it wasn't in the comics, doesn't it mean it's a bad
by oisin5199
the USO thing makes perfect sense to me, as Cap was generally used as a symbolic rallying cry for morale. Plus we don't know the context - I thought it had to do with him being untested in battle at that point in the movie. Who knows? I make you a bet, after the movie, a USO story will show up in the comics. Because it works.
-
The Rocketeer had a modest budget but Joe spent his cash where it mattered, with a perfect cast and then didn't try to push action where no money existed but kept it modest so that what little was there was solid. He's perfect for a tightwad production, I'm the ultimate Cap fan, so say I.

what a cheap way to mold this cap thing into a movie.
-
oh wait different stupid movie
-
military allow gays now so Cap being the fruit rainbow rider her is wanted to join and fight for his country
-
just not for me. And the coloring didn't help. Last 2 issues seemed rushed which hurt the story I thought. Also cool was Panther using a round shield, throwing it and cap getting an idea about having a shield like that. Plus his offering it to cap was nice touch. And the debriefing of Fury where his superiors asked about type of things cap was willing or unwilling to do in the field was good also.
-
Don't ask, don't tell is still in effect.
-
and Timothy Dalton hamming it up, never got the love for the Rocketeer (the comic book was great, though). The movie is unmitigated schmaltz, and the title character is barely in it.
