Poodleface gives us an early description of a teaser trailer for MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 2

Alrighty folks, Harry here... dressed in a TIGGER costume writing from his bed... to you... We have video capture footage of Me (Harry) charging out of the night and killing the camera dressed as Tigger. It is coming soon, but till that glorious day arrives... You will have to live with Poodleface's description on a teaser trailer for MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 2!

Harry,

You know the drill: long time visitor, first time writer to your site. They
were recently doing tests for the teaser trailer for Mission Impossible 2
(or MI:2, the obligatory acronymn), so I thought I'd drop you a line about
it.

The trailer begins with a long shot of some cliffs in some exotic locale (I
presume Australia). The camera does one of those impossibly long and quick
zooms until it settles on a man climbing one of the cliff faces, hanging
precariously. He suddenly falls, and then the camera zooms in on his face as
he reaches out and saves himself at the very last second. It is (of course)
Tom Cruise, and with the hair he's sporting, you might have mistaken him for
Wolverine. Very scary.

He hears a ringing sound, so he pulls out the source of it, a pair of
sunglasses, which he puts on. Inside the glasses from Cruise's POV you see a
lot of "computer verification of identity" effects. After this happens a
voice comes in saying "Greetings Mr. Hunt, your mission if you choose to
accept it..." It is unmistakably Anthony Hopkins.

After all this comes some actual shots of footage of the movie, which
unfortunately were buried in one of those quick cut montages that lasted all
of ten seconds. I caught a glimpse of Ving Rhames, but that was about it. It
looked like the montage was made up of a grand total of three scenes from
the movie.

The only shots that I could really decern were Tom Cruise doing some crazy
kick flip which froze as it connected, and a long shot of Tom Cruise riding
a motorcycle. There was one shot that had some slow-motion John Woo
direction in it, but I can't remember what it was of, but I can tell you Tom
Cruise was in it. As you can probably guess, the trailer took a real "Tom
Cruise is the star of this movie" slant to it. After all this, Cruise takes
off the glasses as Hopkins says "This message will self destruct in XX
seconds..." and tosses them towards the screen, where they explode in
computer generated flame. The words "A JOHN WOO FILM" appear, and then they
are replaced with "MI:2".

Hopefully there is still a lot of tweaking to be done to this trailer,
because I wasn't really impressed with it. The team aspect of "Mission
Impossible" is barely touched on in the trailer, it's just shots and shots
of Tom Cruise. I told the person doing the testing that I was going to see
it because "Hey, it's a John Woo film", but the trailer alone didn't make me
want to see the movie. A good teaser trailer makes me want to see the movie
right then and there, and this one didn't do that for me. Hopefully
Paramount will still be doing some tweaking.
