This uncovered vintage AVENGERS trailer from the Fifties defies the time-space continuum with relish!!!
Hey folks, Harry here and if you follow me on Twitter, you probably saw me tweet this trailer late last night as I was working on my DVD Column - but this is one of those things that just makes me love fandom, geeks and the world that many of us sit back and geek out about. Now this is a truly absurd editing exercise that makes no sense, but as Bruce Lee said, "Don't Think, FEEEEEEEEL!" and if you listen to the master - all will be right in this world of ours. Because this 1950's What If there was an AVENGERS movie before there was a comic.... is probably not too far off. NOW - there's a couple of challenges that this footage can provide for the healthy film geek... first - can you name all the Marvel Characters that are alleged to be shown in this nearly 3 minute trailer? Secondly - How much of this source footage can you actually name? Hell, I have the original one-sheet for the footage they used for CAPTAIN AMERICA starring the rough & tumble Dick Purcell, the original Captain America... But go on - let's see how good you folks are.
Joss - now, let's see you make a better trailer! :)

I should read more carefully before watching. My head almost asploded in confusion.

I guess everyone is still ranting about pedophiles in the DVD column still.

A game to be played..how boring.

That was flippin' hysterical.

"Waaah, waaah, waaah" Sorry, couldn't resist. What were we talking about? Avengers? It's a challenge and I hope they can pull it off.

"this will probably be beter than the real avengers."<br><br>amirite? amirite? i mean, who even watches SNL anymore? and fuck you, harry, you sell out! whooo! covering all the bases!

I'd watch that

Marvel started in the 30s, but they wouldn't have the clout to put out a motion picture.

I'd just love to see that costume in real-life. Just remove the space after the word "info" and the space in the middle of the word "woman" and it should work

It won't cure world hunger but you've kept us waiting for long enough. We expect nothing but an eloquent, insightful, well researched and considered opinion.
-
Loved every moment of it. As for the characters, I remember seeing: Thor, Cap, Iron Man, Hawkeye, Giant-man, Wasp, Black Widow (obviously), while unnamed were: The Watcher, Prof. X, Daredevil (maybe Cyclops?), Nick Fury, Peter Parker (in glasses with the spider diagram behind him), Maybe Reed Richards with the pipe on the 4th floor, which might make the guy in the trenchcoat and hat the Thing, Dr. Strange, The Hulk, Rick Jones as the kid on the radio?, and a skrull (Super-skrull?)
-
Are you a super-intelligent earthworm or something? Does it take a long time to type out your utterly inane, useless, and vapid comments on EVERYthing?
-
instead of all the bad comic book movies they've made to date. We would all be spared tons of sadomasochistic torture.
-
Considering the Talosians and Emma Peel didn't grace television'til the 60's I have trouble calling this trailer "from the 50's". I imagine there was just a shortage of stock footage containing a really hot broad in a catsuit and a throbbing templed, androgynous alien. Still it looks better than half the garbage coming outta H-Wood nowadays anyway!
-
It's such a stupendously obvious statement, and the comparison is even an insult to Rigg, but I still felt it had to be made.<p>Though now I'm wondering if the Avengers film, which I'm looking forward to, will be one-tenth as fun as an old Avengers episode. Let's hope so.
-
and watched em last year. Now i wanna see em again. On an unrelated note, i'm thinking of picking up X-Men the animated series. Are they any good? Thoughts?

Sorry if I don't freak out over fake Youtube videos like you do.

I'm surprised they didn't use The Incredible Shrinking Man for Ant Man. Or did they?

by Chewtoy
One of the things I've always loved about the Vision's costume is that he's an android whose body was built in the 1930's, and his costume really looks like a throwback to the science fiction of that era, as if he raided Ming's closet.

Yul Brenner is the One True Silver Age Live Action Professor X. He's even sitting in a wheelchair.

clips from War of the Worlds and Thunderball as if they're in the same movie...

IN SUPERSCOPE!!

I giggled.
-
I see Rocket Jock and Lone Star "Im a super copper on my super chopper". Will we see the Caped Madman
-
This fake trailer will be better than the shitfest that's going commence in 2012. Also, I still think Whedon won't make it through to the end.
-
In the beginning you see a guy with large head and hes got a cape on ... Youn guy with thick glasses but if you notice theres a photo of a spider in the background!! Both of these happen early on before you see professor x

That is one of the coolest things i have ever seen. Ever. I read this site every day, check for new stories every coupla hours and have done for probably about 6 years now but have never posted despite the hours of joy i get from reading talk-backs - i love it. But my horror at the lack of complete awe towards the trailer has prompted me to open an an account and comment. This trailer is one of the coolest things i have ever ever seen and i cannot believe that a fan has put this together. I am amazed at the creativity that gone into this - this is a TRUE fanboy who made this and most of you posters on here are talking about Lost and Harry's reception review and just normal comments I CANNOT UNDERSTAND IT THIS TRAILER IS TRULY FUCKING FUCKING AMAZING CRAZY INSANE and it makes me love the world. It's like when i first found BatMan Dead-End and the Japanese x-men animated intro on youtube. Utterly incredible thanks for posting this Harry
-
I haven't even watched the video yet, jackass. I'm at work. It just bugs me that you come on here just to say the most obvious fucking things. Things that are so goddamn obvious that it makes my eyes bleed when I read your posts. <P> NOBODY LIKES YOU HERE. GO AWAY.
-
Do you log in to AICN to live out your dream of being the most ignorant, uninformed contrarian bitch on the planet? I see people mocking you nearly on a daily basis. Why do you keep coming back when it is painfully obvious that NO ONE gives a shit about anything you've ever posted? <P> Except me, I guess...
-
I cannot wait to get home and check it out.
-
FAKE. This is a compilation of clips from other movies. The dude with the eye patch is Emilio Largo (no. 2) from Thunderball. Not sure where any of the other clips are from, but that one stuck out at me.
-
I like Whedon, but AVENGERS has very little to do with his aesthetic (other than it being a team-based movie; he's good at writing ensemble stuff). He's especially good at whiny, self-obsessed, adolescent angst and snark. None of which has any bearing on AVENGERS, but woulda been perfect for X-MEN. <br><br>I also have a strong suspicion that he's gonna flake out and totally blow this. Then they'll hire some hack (I believe Alan Smithee is available) to rush and stitch it together. In other words, think something along the lines Jonah Hex. Sad. Hopefully I'm wrong.
-
Until I saw the Thunderball villain talking with Lee Marvin's voice from the Dirty Dozen. It's still cool tho and very well put together.
-
Holy crap, you must be, like, a master detective or somethin'. Are you Batman? Hi, Batman! <br><br>Duh.
-
LOLOCAUST at the number of people who proudly announce "ITS FAKE!". No shit, it's fake. Also, TedKordLives is a fantastic screenname. Kudos to THAT guy.
-
Thanks for beating me to the punch, and making me look bad. By the way, this video doesn't look real to me - what do YOU think??
-
Just maybe... I'm not sure what it is that tipped me off. Must be my innate detective's sense and the years I spent studying with the League of Shadows high in the mountains of Tibet. <br><br>Either that or the fact that IT'S SO FUCKING OBVIOUS that anyone who felt the need to call attention to it's fake brilliance is officially, and irretrievably R-E-T-A-R-D-E-D and should be banned just on principal.<br><br>Btw, whoever put this mash-up together deserves a blow job from Diane Rigg in her prime.
-
That was a really cool video. Agreed that Diana Rigg in the Avengers TV show was one of the sexiest women on the planet. I have to say they had a really ugly playing Captain America in those old serials!
-
The Avengers wasn't even a comic until the early 60s. There wouldn't be a black and white trailer for a movie for a comic that hadn't even be released yet.
-
Was that taken from something or fan made?
-
Don't get your panties in a bunch I wasn't proudly pronouncing its fake. Im dissing myself for believing it was real. I really did think it was legit. Relax
-
Why do you want to be this way? Please answer my above question, as I'm very curious as to the enjoyment you get by pretending to be the dumbest person at AICN.
-
The only comics character in the universe more irritating and lame than Deadpool.
-
We aren't making fun of you. You said, "I almost thought this was real" and then complimented the work. Ain't nothing wrong with that. We're making fun of the people being overly satisfied with themselves for uncovering a "mystery" that's literally smacking them in the head with obviousness. Scan the posts above and you'll see what I mean.
-
God that was awesome...
-
I had already subscribed to "whoiseyevan" because of his great premake trailers of "Raiders," "Ghostbusters," "Gump," & "Empire," then he comes up with THIS! Emma Peel... the "Wasp Woman..." the Stan Lee cameo... vintage MST3K... I've never seen so much nostalgia packed into a mere 3 minutes. The guy clearly loves cinema, and I'm a fan of his forever.
-
cant wait to show this to my kids!
-
sound too.
-
Pretty fun mashup of old clips.
-
I recognized these different film sources: -Earth Versus the Flying Saucers -The Avengers (TV series) -three episodes of The Outer Limits TV show -Radar Men from the Moon (Commando Cody as Iron Man - clever!) -Flash Gordon -The Thing (original 1950s version) -Fritz Lang's Die Nibelungen (awesome idea for the Thor stuff!) -Thunderball -Captain Scarlet -The Amazing Colossal Man And even a bit of Star Trek from The Cage episode. The way everything was treated to match the old film look was really well done.
-
I do not often rewatch trailers on AICN but when I do, it's Premakes:the avengers. Stay thirsty my friend..
-
to the dirty dozen and the avengers and make it work?! What a guy!!
-
Actually, I felt Marvel made the best out of a bad situation. I always had the feeling that, once they realized he was here to stay, they put him to good use as an unstoppable psychopath and tool of Norman Osborn. And now he's dead, so no worries. Sentry really grew on me, big time.
-
Remeber the avengers episode where she infiltrated that SM group? She was in center of group on a platform wearing a shoulderless corset, spiked collar, high boots, her hair was puffed up with a snake coiled around her bare shoulder? And I think she had an apple in one hand. Whoa!! You know Diana Rigg as Emma Peel and the word bare go together so nicely don't they?
-
Let's travel back to the 60's and get her, arguably the sexiest woman of that decade, and allow her to continue to be the only avenger a man ever needs...Emma Peel me a grape!
-
In a good way!
-
And she got hotter once tv went colorized.
-
On your knee's and surrender!! They would.
-
am i the only one that admits to watching this show?
-
From the first notes of the FIREBALL XL-5 opening to all the 30s, 40s and 50s characters (oh, some 60s bits, too, such as the flying carrier from CAPT. SCARLET ...) my biggies (no pun intended) such as the Amazing Colossal Man, King of the Rocketmen, Emma Peel, etc.
-
Captain America is from the Cap serials of the 40s, Iron Man is from Human Rocket or Rocket Man movies, Thor, I don't know, Black Widow is Emma Peel, Watcher is from Star Trek, I believe. That Nick Fury actor, is it from Danger Diabolik or Bond, perhaps? Hulkmay be from a Hammer Frankenstein. The rest i'm drawing a blank. Although it's Yul as Xavier.
-
And Whedon... same question to you too, dude!
-
A lot of work went into that, and it wasn't wasted. Hats off to all involved. Roll on convincing digital actors so Diana Rigg in her prime can take the Widow role for her own! Oh, and RPLock, if you happen to feel like falling into a petrol-filled ditch any time soon, I'll happily donate a lit match to the cause. Douche.
-
...as Wonder Man would be good casting. And it is very gratifying to see all the Diana Rigg love in this thread. If you've memorized all of her Avengers episodes go out and find The Hospital and Theatre of Blood. A good time will be had.
-
What it would be like to love in a day and age where every movie didn't have to have a Token Black character. Make Nick Fury Asian, Arab, native American, or fuckin Mexican for God Sakes......just stop with token black characters!!!! It's awkward and dishonest to all races. If ya wanna have a black character in the Avengers use War Machine, Black Panther, or Luke Cage. Stop turning White Characters into black ones!
-
God damn Emma still gives me a chubby!!!
-
You get a free BJ from Miss Rigg in her prime for thinking of the idea of getting a BJ from Miss Rigg in her prime.
-
Is that a bad thing?
-
Best Bond girl ever as Tracey in On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Almost made me forget it was George Lazenby as Bond!
-
I'm a badddd boy
-
If she had been in a Connery Bond, nobody forget her. Unfortunate luck of being in the Lazenby one.
-
...I've liked every single thing you've posted today.
-
You too get a free BJ from Diana Rigg in her prime.
-
A BJ from Diana Rigg in her prime.

and that was counting the Skrull.

Emma Peel: Licensed to give Bjs

In between movie series, why not produce short webisode adventures of movies like Star Trek, or James Bond, or Batman. That would be awesome.
-
Would allow them to do stories and ideas perfect for short story format. Plus it keeps fans satisfied til the next movie.
-
If someone like Bale wouldn't do it, focus on another character in the universe like a Gotham Cop, or an ensign on the Enterprise?
-
or set up next film or as an epilogue to a film. Plus it all can be done a small budget I think.
-
might want to direct a bigger film. Or an established director unable to schedule time needed for a full movie but for a webisode can.
-
If they had shown this at comic con and people saw Diana Rigg in that suit, the avengers panel would have been reeeal interesting. You know people would be asking: wouldn't it be great if you could do computer images of Diana Rigg as BW? Scarlett, do you feel you're a better Black Widow than the Diana Rigg clip everyone is talking about? If so, why? Scarlett gives her answer and you hear people coughing **bullshit**. Course before Q&A they'd announce no questions about Diana Rigg being the perfect Black Widow.
-
over a 13 yr old girl. Sorry, but they're still buzzing about Polanski on the other thread, so I thought I'd throw in a Roman Polanski post.
-
Hell of an imagination, felt like a live action issue of Tales Of Suspense. I'm still wondering which character Yul Brenner was playing. At first glance, I figured he was Professor X but his eyebrows were so arched, he might have been Namor.
-
Man in B&W, he looked the part didn't he? If they could have done a 60s x-men show based on the original team in B&W with decent effects that would have been awesome.
-
Diana Rigg as Tracey replaces Bond. Think of the possiblilities: Diana Rigg with Jill St John, Jane Seymour, Maude Adams, Britt Ekland, Barbara Bach and Lois Chiles. Don't tell me you wouldn't wanna see some of that action. Plus in Diamonds are Forever, Bond battled Bambi and Thumper, they were lesbians. To quote George Costanza: trio.

RPLocke has cemented his status as dumbest talkbacker
by Guy Who Got A Headache And Accidentally Saves The World
A hundred times over by now. Why does he even keep posting here? Anyway these fanmade trailers always go on too long. How about some brevity. It's like they didn't want to make the effort to make a whole movie, just film the "fun" scenes and make us sit through all of them with no context or meaning.
-
AKA Rocketman. The guy invents a jetpack so he can fly and the best he can do for weapons is a .38 revolver??
-
Wow, the guy with the longest SN is the biggest asshole, who would have thought?
-
..even an eppie of Lost In Space in there. I like it.

I am officially shattered for the day. *sniff*

Well done, I'd watch this Avengers film any day.

I believe that was John Vernon. He also did Namor for the Grantray Lawrence Submariner show. Great talent (Animal House, Outlaw Josey Wales). RIP.
-
Here's to hoping that the 2012 AVENGERS flick is far better than this "trailer", as (cough) ...cool as it is.
-
hope Whedon shows as much love for the Avengers as he did for Buffy.
-
Lawdy, Lawdy! You sho' in some trouble now! Heh come dee 'vengers! (lots of unnecessary tap dancing)
-
If the new Avengers movie is half-way as cool as that trailer is I will be in fanboy heaven! Great job.
-
If so is he supposed to be Professor X? What's he doing stepping into an Avengers movie?
-
I personally think they should have used the Kanamits from the TZ episode "To Serve Man" instead of the Keeper from "The Cage", because they look exactly like Uatu - see for yourself http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/7/74/Toserveman.jpg
-
was the best example of the cliff-hanger showing you an impossible to escape from death... that car definitely exploded with Rocketman inside - no way he could ever survive! Next episode, brand new footage inserted showing him escape just in time. No fair! Anyway me and friends used to liven up our pottery classes by making replica Rocketmen and whizzing them at the ceiling and walls so they'd get stuck while the teacher had his back to us.
-
Since most of the clips were pre-60's. Marvel is more 60's jet age than 40's or 50's.
-
That's the only one that really stood out to me other than Emma Peel.

In the TV show Married With Children, the episode called 'Kelly Breaks Out' Al and Jefferson are watching TV and see an ad for Avengers videos. Al orders the tape and is disappointed when it arrives because it features Linda Thorsen and not Emma Peel. He also asks the operator when ordering the tapes if they have an episode where she "kicks really, really high
-
The Avengers episode was "A Touch of Brimstone", "the SM group" was the Hellfire Club, and it didn't air here in the States at the time because that dominatrix outfit of hers was considered way over the line for the mid-60s by the network's BSP group. Remember this was when Barbara Eden's Jeannie costume had to hide her navel. The episode *did* inspire Chris Claremont to bring the Hellfire Club into the X-Men; Jean Grey's Black Queen is a blatant dupe, and Emma Frost's just flips the colors. Speaking as a Man of a Certain Age, I can say Diana Rigg certainly jumpstarted puberty for a whole generation of now-middle-aged males, and is another reason That Movie Not to be Discussed was so awful. The NY Times review at the time summed it up perfectly: "Sorry Uma, You're No Emma".
