A Fantastic Fest / AICN Special Super Spectacular Screening of SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD with secrets aplenty!
Hey folks, Harry here - I'm getting ready to head down to the Alamo Drafthouse-Ritz to check out CINEMAPOCALYPSE - but before I do that... Well, I had to post up the details on one of the hands down most exciting screenings that I've ever been a part of. First off - I'm just fucking dying to see SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD. Everyone I know that has seen it, has fallen head over heels for it. But this next Thursday night at 7:30pm an event will kick off that won't end till - well... it ends. And I hate... HATE that I can't quite give you all the details, but I will say, if you get in, you might want to make FRIDAY a "sick day" because... again... I just can't say quite yet. All will be revealed at the actual screening. Edgar Wright will be there... but so will select cast... (I know who they are, I'm just not allowed to share, but going through a box of Tissues crying could be a reasonable reaction to not being there) I'm just saying. There will be post film activities. And they will be the shit of Legend. Every facet of this screening is going to be amazing - and ya know how much it is gonna cost you to get in? NOT A SINGLE PENNY! That's Wright, (sorry) no $300 VIP badges - this is the sort of event that Tim League and I love to be able to put together for ya and I know we haven't been doing a ton of events this Summer, but frankly... when we do these things, the events grow out of our passion for the films - and I do feel we've done that this summer (though it is a shame we didn't have an INCEPTION event). How do you get in? I'll tell ya. I have only 115 seats to fill. 85 of you FANTASTIC FESTers can attempt to get seats through FANTASTIC FEST, but AICN is responsible for the majority of seats at this point - so let's get to it. You need to send an email to HK at AintitCool.Com with the following exact Subject Line: Please 1UP Me!!! then - include your FULL NAME and that of your (singular) Guest - along with a photo of you striking your best POWER STANCE with your Guitar. Don't have a Guitar? Air Guitars are allowed, but more so - funny GUITAR SUBSTITUTES like a broom, pink flamingo, mop, strap-on, whatever you want. But I need to see an intensity of passion upon your face, YOU ARE ROCKING OUT! This is it, you do want to ROCK out in what could very well be the coolest event we've had in Austin this year? Right? Ok - emote, I need to see that fire you have inside. By all means have fun with these photos and if you're geeky enough to go Photoshop on us - that's cool too, but not required. There are no points for sending this off QUICKLY. I will announce the winners on AICN this Monday. Then FRIDAY - you can post your photo up on your blog and tell the world what a fucking awesome Thursday night you spent in the loving arms of SCOTT PILGRIM VS THE WORLD. SO - hop to it. Deadline for the pictures is this MONDAY at Noon. It Has Begun!!

I hope my god awful picture actually pulls weight and gets me in for this! So excited!

I'm all alone and have no one to take a picture of me posed with a guitar. I am, however, a decent artist. Could I draw a picture and send it in, perhaps in the style of Bryan Lee O'Malley? Please respond Harry-- I just moved to Austin and this would be awesome!!!

A fucking review of inception!!
you know the one you'd promised you give after the comic con.
I think before you are allowed to pimp new films you need to clean out your backlog. Kickass, the film you and your site has whorishly slobbered over has come and gone from theaters. You can make it up now by cutting and pasting a user review from amazon or CHUD in your DVD column. Just do something!!!
stop acting like a ADD riddled tweeny bopper and follow through on your statements and stop pimping new films. Cause if your word is to ever stand for something, you need to actually review the films you gush all over for the better part of the year.
shame motherfucker shame!!

I can't wait for this movie to come out. Sure, I wanna see it and all, but I really just want this fucking kid to shut the fuck up about it.

Man... I'm worn out by this motherfucking movie and it's not even out yet. This must be how the Avatar haters felt last year. I feel I'm a proper movie geek. I've liked some of Edgar Wright's stuff in the past. And yet, there is NOTHING about this movie that looks good to me. I don't know why. I guess it's just me. It looks to me like the most irritating headache of a movie since Alice In Wonderland. And yet... Everybody. Loves. This. Fucking. Movie. I guess something's wrong with me. I'm sure I'll eventually see it on Netflix. And if it actually does turn out to be a giant bowl of chocolate covered pussy juice... I'll just have to retract all previous negative comments. But man... this thing looks idiotic. Every time I hear the phrase "seven evil exes" my nose crinkles up like I just smelled a fart. I just want it to be over with.

So I'm going to go see Expendables instead. I'm totally fine with that. Have no urge to see a movie about Toronto hipster vegans, thank you very much.

It just looks a complete "meh" to me, I'm sure it's bloody brilliant and amazing and whatnot but I can't get anyone to go see it as they all feel the same
as for the first poster about how these events should be more nationwide... Fuck off half this site probably hails from outside amerika and besides it's Harrys hometown so why the fuck should he do it anywhere else other than his beloved Alamo?
I want to see Edgar give us a bloody scifi flick not another comic book geek movie

to ruin it or put off the real fans of wright off are futile. The movie really doesn't need your help. Your spamming of every story with your shit is becoming a very tired act. You seem to think the majority here hate it. You are so deluded, man. Give it a rest.
Aug. 7, 2010, 5:08 a.m. CST
Haha oh I see i'm not the only one who wants to bash his fucking head in with a Bob-omb guitar then?

inception. I saw it yesterday and there are scenes in the film that boggle the mind. you simply cannot write them down on paper. the story is so complex, that a review of the movie is utterly impossible, but its easy if you want slobber over the really mind-bending effects and they are really mind-bending. i could do a review of the film but i dont want to give anything away.

"SCOTTPILGRIMFAN 'Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World' is the future of movies." That may well be true and I don't mean it in a good way. "Are you cool enough for 'Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World'?" No, thank god. What could have been a mildly entertaining diversion, pleasant enough while watching but forgotten as soon as one exited the theater, has turned into an Avatar-size hype monster, as appetizing as a broccoli & spam casserole shoved in your face.

Cause lord knows that after all this hype I'm not seeing reviews here
Aug. 7, 2010, 9:40 a.m. CST
...Sly Stallone. He's using reverse psychology by obnoxiously promoting his competitor's movie, he actually turns them away from it because it makes people aware of the foul stench of hype coming from that film.
Aug. 7, 2010, 10:01 a.m. CST
the actor who plays the boyfriend just doesn't have any appeal to me. He just can't act. I could care less that he takes on the world. Looks pretty boring.
Aug. 7, 2010, 11:20 a.m. CST
so how come none of her 'evil exes', as wikipedia refers to them, are BLACK? one looks like a massive nerd, theres 2 chinks/japs one looks like a girl - is that supposed to be some cool 'i dated a girl once to experiment' shit? what a load of bollocks!
in this day and age a girl like winstead would probably be exclusively for black men, footballers and soldiers - that's how it is in my town anyway. and guess what - i'm not any of those things. they should make a film about me instead.

You know how with INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS the trailer made it look that it was just about Brad and the Basterds - but when I saw it it was SO MUCH MORE than that - there was Melanie Laurent, Michael Fassbender, Christoph Waltz, Diane Kruger, Daniel Bruhl - all these characters that hadn't even been hinted at in the trailer, meaning that (for me) watching the movie was a much richer experience than I had been led to believe. Remember that? OK, well I hope the same pattern is true with Scott Pilgrim, because this whole 'evil exes' shit, and all that badly executed romantic stuff is pretty dull now I've seen it on heavy rotation since May. [BTW, why do so many Hollywood films have horribly ugly guys scoring with beautiful girls? Could it be because Hollywood is full of horrible ugly guys who have used their money/power to get beautiful girls? Romance as portrayed by Hollywood is a lie.]

i'll watch it eventually - i watch everything, more or less, eventually. but i'm saving my theater $ for PIRAHNA 3D

Everyone complains about all the hype, yet I have yet to find myself in a situation where I'm inundated by hype of any kind for anything. And if you count talkback.. well.. what the hell do you expect? Stop reading it if it forces you to the gynecologist for a pill upgrade or it makes your breasts tender. Are you seeing ads here? Get a real browser. Stop watching so much TV. Listen to something other than your geezer rock radio stations. You hate hype so much, get the hell away from the hype MACHINES you appear to love to hate.I know sometimes it's unavoidable. And yes it gets annoying. But some people come across as getting a certain satisfaction from complaining about it. Or a sense they they'll get some kind of peer admiration or respect for disliking the right set of things. I'm not saying shut up, I'm one of the biggest blabbermouths around, I'm just saying.. put it into some perspective and context for once. You may be part of the problem.

Just got back from a screening and you know what? I didn't like it. Visually it is cool as hell, but I just didn't think it was funny. The aesthetics of it rubbed me the wrong way. It's like it validates an entire way of living, geek chic if you will. Maybe I'm a fuckhead for "not getting it" but I truly though if anyone would be susceptible to this it would be me.

Went in with a dislike of the tone of the comic from the start. Now i've not seen the movie, so not sure what my take will be on it. Coming from someone who is neutral at this point, all I read was someone trying to fight against something they didn't want to like, but begrudgingly has to admit they did really.

Saw this last Thursday at a sneak. Really disappointed. Repetitious, ugly looking; just no fun. How do you make Winstead unattractive? Watch this movie. Great soundtrack though
Aug. 9, 2010, 8:35 a.m. CST
So are you saying that you would have prefered a review from someone who liked the comics? Personally, I don't trust reviews of comic/game/book adaptations that come from people that are already in love with the source material. Nothing skews perspective like love, even if it's love for a comic book.
