yeah, I'll be watching that.
Aug. 3, 2010, 3:42 p.m. CST
it's a really odd, cheap little show, but it makes me laugh pretty consistently. the latest episode with him flying to the south for a show is WEIRD. much more like a weird short film than an episode of a TV show...but it's always worth watching.
Aug. 3, 2010, 3:48 p.m. CST
It won't be THAT funny.
Aug. 3, 2010, 4:04 p.m. CST
It's just sad. Crushingly, horrifically sad.
Aug. 3, 2010, 4:12 p.m. CST
YEARS back, they asked the Always Sunny guy to come up with a suspiciously similar pilot, which eventually went to FOX, which eventually went nowhere; I was glad, as them splitting their focus probably isn't the best idea, but I support this entirely. If nothing else, another outlet for Michael Ian Black and Ken Marino. And say what you will about LOUIE, but the segment last week on Heckling was so, so spot on
Aug. 3, 2010, 4:12 p.m. CST
Why hasn't there been any news/reviews on this awesome mini series...or am i just over looking it?
Aug. 3, 2010, 4:16 p.m. CST
But he's still depressing the hell out of me. Kind of like George Carlin when he entered his bitter old age.
Aug. 3, 2010, 4:25 p.m. CST
That "So Old" segment wasn't funny? "Your father is dead" wasn't funny? "PIG! PIIIIIG!" wasn't funny? "Travel Day" wasn't funny? You must not think Ricky Gervais or Larry David are funny either.

Aug. 3, 2010, 4:41 p.m. CST
I tried to like it, I really did. I even liked a few of the ideas. But it was so determined to base every episode on the "Hey, aren't all these people really fat/ugly/stupid/lazy?" schtick that I just got fed up. The great thing about Red Dwarf was the way that for all their enormous flaws, there was something good or likeable about the lot of them. Except maybe Rimmer.

Sorry. He's not. It's painful to watch. I know this comedian attracts a certain cult following, but it's a very specific and acquired taste (much like boiled sheep testicles, I'd imagine, and just as chewy).
Aug. 3, 2010, 5:37 p.m. CST
"Boldly Going Nowhere" pilot which was reworked by Larry Charles and still not picked up?
Aug. 3, 2010, 5:39 p.m. CST
I laugh my fucking balls off every week. The heckler bit last week had me in stitches. On par with Always Sunny in terms of hilarity.
Aug. 3, 2010, 5:45 p.m. CST
I am an enormous Louis CK fan, but the show has been very meh. The parts where it's his stand up are excellent of course, and I could do with a 30 minute show each week of just that and be extremely happy. But the "narrative" aspects...I don't know, just feel off.
Aug. 3, 2010, 6:14 p.m. CST
if you live for re-runs of Full House and The Price is Right. But gay.
Aug. 3, 2010, 7:02 p.m. CST
That's a fair criticism. I think it'll settle into its style eventually. I like that it feels off and a little different than everything else. And I like the way it's shot.
Aug. 3, 2010, 7:11 p.m. CST
If you can't laugh at Louie, you're like incapable of that response all together. It derives comedy from awkwardness in ways not seen since the UK Office.
Aug. 3, 2010, 7:42 p.m. CST
This has been done to death. Oh, I forgot - the people greenlighting these things have the memories of gnats (or were all born after 1980).
Aug. 3, 2010, 7:47 p.m. CST
Until the last season, when they dumped Clemmy and Garcia and brought on two losers. (Yeah, they dumped 3 - Kimble was lame from day 1) Are both Lenon and Garant going to be in the cast? Details!

. . . There have been parts that had me laughing my ass off and some parts that are just dull. I swear everybody either thinks something is pure genius or the worst thing ever made, never anything in between. All hail agnostics!!!

QUARK, GALAXY QUEST, GALAXY BEAT, RED DWARF, etc... Been there, done that and RENO 911! was POLICE ACADEMY without Hightower.
Aug. 3, 2010, 8:45 p.m. CST
Science fiction comedy...pretty limited.
Aug. 3, 2010, 9:39 p.m. CST
I haven't laughed so hard since he fucked that fat chick.
Aug. 3, 2010, 10:08 p.m. CST
I love the show simply because there needs to be more freedom in comedy. I hate formula shows, and Louie is simply observational humor at its best. I absolutely believe that his like is equally as fucked up as this, and tat's really how people treated him at his pre fame standup gigs.

keep the ck coming, bitches. and the cast of the state in a star trek parody? fuck yesssssss. when did fx become a great a channel again?
Aug. 4, 2010, 1:55 a.m. CST
Till it gets great or bellies up.
SciFi comedy?
Skeptical but optimistic. Give it a go. The worste that could happen is that it fails.
Aug. 4, 2010, 4:12 a.m. CST
That show will age like a fucking classic. Delighted it's gotten another season
Aug. 4, 2010, 6:19 a.m. CST
that show really is great.
As for space comedy, what happened to the show by the 'It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia' guys? Wasn't that supposed to be on FX?

That's about the same, if not more than Damages got at 10. Easy renewal there.

When I think space comedy, I'm reminded of the Space episode of Newsradio.

Lennon and Garant getting back on TV so quickly, though. Reno 911 is actually better than you would expect it to be and holds up pretty well to repeat viewings. Just watch any clip of Junior trying to drink coffee or eat sushi while driving the cruiser. Or in the movie where he wakes up from a dream and Dangle tells him, "You know you're driving, right?"
Aug. 4, 2010, 11:31 a.m. CST
FX seems to flourish with comedies that have a comedic vision from the cast themselves. Always Sunny and Louie the prime examples. Of course that can backfire...Testies?? Terriers looks like...I haven't a fuckin clue. The League still hasn't caught on with me, although the cast is game, though Archer did eventually win me over. Wonder what they'll do to plug the hole left by Damages?
Aug. 4, 2010, 11:36 a.m. CST
couple of years. Have to admit, Lt. Dangle will go down (pun maybe not intended) as an iconic TV character. He is a Halloween costume after all...
But a space spoof? Quark tried and failed 40 years ago.
Aug. 4, 2010, 2:01 p.m. CST
I LOVE the show, but defenders have to understand it's not for everybody. Frankly, I think Louie CK is wasting his talent on a weekly sitcom; he should be making indie films. Some of these episodes are heartbreaking more than funny.
Aug. 4, 2010, 6:08 p.m. CST

It's very cathartic to have someone articulate in such a hilarious way all the negativity and hopelessness that I normally have to suppress in order to deal with life. It's great to take 30 minutes to basically just vent vicariously through Louie. That guy deserves some kind of award. I think the format of this show also works better than the sitcom-style of Lucky Louie. Incorporating the stand up really helps. And I absolutely love the opening sequence with "Brother Louie" as the theme song. Awesome. Looking forward to season 2.

better than the stand up bits for the most part. - the bus trip, the girl who was hot for old guys, the play date, the horrible date, the trip to the south - each derived humor from uncomfortable or odd situations.
Aug. 6, 2010, 9:57 a.m. CST
Very funny show. So funny that I wonder why Lennon and Garrant can't write a funny script to save their lives.
Aug. 6, 2010, 11 a.m. CST
someone wrote down this quote: "Comedy is simply a funny way of being serious" - Peter Ustinov
How appropriate...

Granted, Reno 911 didn't know it had run out of gas for 3 seasons, but it's still better than nothing in a rather tepid TV wasteland such as this. And more Louie is more awesome! The episode with his mom was fantastic, the actress really built a nasty character that felt like a person, a self-righteous asshole of a person that would create a person like Louis CK. FX is really taking off lately.
Aug. 23, 2010, 1:34 p.m. CST
Echoing Skywise404's comment. I realize that you can't review everything, but I'm surprised that AICN isn't mentioning this great series. At all. What gives?
