Tommy Chong meets The Blues Brothers in today’s Behind the Scenes Pic!

Published at:  Jul 31, 2010 3:15:42 PM CDT

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes pic!

When I posted a mention in the Batman: The TV Show that I had a picture of Tommy Chong meeting with the Blue Brothers I thought that could generate some interest, but there are two constants in my BTS emails… I probably get a dozen a day, sometimes as much two dozen all with pictures attached, and there has not been a day that has gone by where I’m not sent either the photo of Carrie Fisher sunbathing with her body double in her Slave Leia outfit or a request for me to post the Tommy Chong meeting Jake and Elwood Blues photo.

The story goes that John Landis, John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd wandered over to the set of Cheech & Chong’s Next Movie during a break from shooting. Both productions were on the Universal Backlot and this pic was snapped.

You’ll see why it took me so long… great photo, but it’s small. You can still see it and appreciate it, but I like having a picture at least as wide as this column’s text and preferably one bigger as I know a great deal of you grab these photos for cell phone and computer backgrounds.

Here it is:

If you have a pic you think should be included email me. I’m looking for the iconic, the rare, the just plain cool behind the scenes shots to feature here.

Thanks to Matthew for sending the pic and the background!

Tomorrow’s Behind the Scenes Pic will make ya’ read. Sorry about that. See ya’ then!

Little bit underwhelmed by this. Belushi Akroyd and um.. Chong (who's prob a wrung in fame below that guy from the Kevin Smith movies).. standing there. With their hands in their pockets.
But wait... surely there's a 'cool' anecdote that goes with this photo.. well allow Quint to explain how the story goes..
"The story goes that John Landis, John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd wandered over to the set of Cheech & Chong’s Next Movie during a break from shooting."

    by mjgtexas

Belushi would star in Ghostbusters, igniting a five year run of Spies Like Us, Down And Out In Beverly Hills, Good Morning Vietnam, Scrooged, and Ghostbusters II....Murray would have done Splash...Hanks would return to TV for a 5 to 7 year run on Night Court...Harry Anderson would take Gallagher's spot of moderately amusing Showtime specials...Gallagher would miss his big break and od in a Beverly Hills Hotel room....would have been cool.

Just saw Animal House for the first time (and I'm in my thirties). I understand what you mean when you say it was overrated. But you have to put into perspective the affect it had on comedy - all comedy, but specifically the screwball Academic institution comedy, all the way from Fast Times at Ridgemount High, to Police Academy, to Revenge of the Nerds, to American Pie. Much in the same way that the original Psycho isn't all that scary, in the context of film history, it's terrifying. With animal house, its hilarious, when put in the context of its era, and what it did to broad comedy. But like I said, in 2010, I have to agree, I found the comedy had a been-there-done-that feeling. You just gotta realize that they were the first to go "there", and the first to do "that".

    by jasonzumwalt

Don't just sit back and watch it in the context of "Hey, TV, make me laugh!" Watch in the context of MUSIC. If you like music you will love this movie. If you are a fan of Rhythm and Blues you will like this movie. If you understand that these two men, Belushi and Akroyd are the ONLY reason younger generations know the names James Brown, John Lee Hooker, Aretha Franklin and Ray fucking Charles(ok, Ray was the only one who still had a career at that point, but still) you will not only love this Movie you will respect it.

I love movies, and have done for over 35 years; all kinds of cinema and genres. There are movies that I absolutely LOVE to death, and there are movies that I just can't find any connection with, or that are so bloody awful that I end up hating them. Personally, the Blues Brothers falls squarely into that category. John Landis needed his head seen to when he was making this shit. Saying that, its an iconic movie for millions. I just failed to buy into it.

[Elwood Blues has just passed on a red light, and a police car rolls up behind them. The words are said in the same rhythm as a blues song ("Soothe Me") on the car stereo]
    Elwood: Shit.
    Jake: What?
    Elwood: Rollers...
    Jake: No.
    Elwood: Yeah.
    Jake: Shit.

that The Blues Brothers is overrated obvioulsy doesn't appreciate music or giant (GIANT!)police chases! I love trying to re-enact the car chase at the end on GTAIV.
