So TALES OF AN ANCIENT EMPIRE Didn't Premiere At SDCC After All, But It's At Fright Night Film Fest This Weekend!!

Published at:  Jul 29, 2010 12:14:43 PM CDT

Merrick here...

...with a quick follow-up to THIS piece from early July, which included details regarding a TALES OF AN ANCIENT EMPIRE screening that was supposed to happen at Comic-Con.

For a vartiety of reasons (not entirely understood by me) , that screening didn't happen. Instead, the movie will now make its World Premiere this Saturday July 31 at the Fright Night Film Fest (details HERE). The Fest is in Louisville, KY and runs from July 30th to August 1st this year.

if you end up attending the festival and this screening in particular, DROP US A LINE as we'd love to know what you think.

I know it won't be that good...

    by toonol

...but for some reason I still think this movie will be a lot of fun, and I'm looking forward to it. Maybe it's just exciting the thirteen-year-old in me.

    Probably low interest

"WHO GIVES A SHIT, WHO GIVES A FUCK" - Steve Langford
Roger Corman's SHARKTOPUS looks more interesting.

Because They Don't Show Porn At SDCC?

    by stryder

Ok, sorry. I'll be nice. Seriously, though, it still looks like a porno in the latest footage shown on the site. Despite all that, I want to give Albert Pyun support because it's hard enough to make a film when you've got a budget and talent. When all you've got is passion then... Ok, you've got Ed Wood. But the world needs its Ed Woods too. Good luck to you, Mr. Pyun. Keep up the... work.

    Glasses-less 3D?

    by -halfscan-

I take it all the gimmicks (glasses-less 3d & Infrasound enhanced soundtrack) promised for the CC premiere won't be happening at the resheduled showing?

    Trailer looks terrible!

    by bat725

A vampire film set in the S&TS universe? Why? And then they cocktease everyone with a Talon (Lee Horsely) cameo? Do they even show the legendary sword in action? From what I remember as a kid, that sword is the baddest sword in fantasy movie history! Why bother with a sequel if Talon and The Sword are not the main focus? Bad decision. Whoever financed this is a fucking idiot.

Looks awful judging by the trailer...

    by charlie_allnut

At least B movies in past areas were actually filmed on film stock...now they are shot on video and look like bad Jenna Jameson porn. I have to say that the trailer was one of the worst I have ever seen.

    Just saw trailer

    by the bicycle sharer

Fucking atrocious! That may be the worst thing I've ever seen (and I once sat through a Barbra Streisand concert). I feel so fucking bad for Kevin Sorbo that I think I'm gonna cry. Maybe he got to bang the hot chick with the blond hair. Yeah, maybe that's it.

This film will probably lead to a new version of " The sword and the Sorcerer", on dvd.

My film is screening at Fright Night as well...

    by wyattweed

...but Aintitcool isn't talking about it. Maybe you should all come see "Shadowland" instead of "Ancient Empire". I will warn you - Shadowland has no porn...

This isn't going direct to DVD or SyFy?

    by skimn

Because it sure sounds like a likely candidate for both of those choices.

I saw a few scenes from Sword and the Sorcerer

    by cyberskunk

I played AD&D in some of my teenage years and despite being with other teenagers who liked fantasy, the only comment I remember any of them saying about the movie was that it was silly/ridiculous. Not that there's anything wrong with a movie being that way unless it were striving for a different effect.

Pyun is dodgy, corrupt and a scam artist

    by sleazzy

Fuck him. He's such a fucking POS for what he did to the people of Guam w/ his MAX HAVOC: CURSE OF THE DRAGON con-job film.

Comes to the island and talks a bunch of shit, gets the Government to co-sign his producer's bullshit loan, the Government loses 800K and Pyun leaves.

Sure he goes around and says "It wasn't me, it was the producer."

Fuck you Albert Pyun. You deserve the all the non-success you've had and you will continue to have. Your newest piece of shit film will fail just like your others.

It's called karma you fucking asshole

    You know...

    by catlettuce4

I thought the original had a couple of intentionally funny lines/moments that worked well, but most of it was really not very good. Yeah, three-bladed sword... kinda cool in a silly way. But will that sword even be in this "sequel" to help save it? I thought they said no. I'm thinking this one will just be bad with no fond nostalgia to sugar-coat it.

Much as I had high hopes

    by movietool

Trailer looks weak. I'll seek this out and see it, of course, but it clearly appears that Pyun was unable to channel any of the magic from TSatS.
