Behold THOR's 5 Minute 50-Something Second Comic-Con Reel!! Footage!! Effects!! Helmet!! Destroyer!! More!!
Merrick here...
I'm insanely tired and may have more thoughts on this in the morning, but I wanted to get this posted as quickly as possible for your esteemed consideration.
The video originates at comicbookmovie.com - with appreciation to Robogeek for the heads-up!

and this is awesome
-
Really, what would you have done differently when making a Thor film?
-
FAILS at life.
-
We're doing you a fucking favor talking 'bout this clip right now. You're welcome.
-
but where was Volstagg?
-
This looks pretty weird to me, but I don't read comics. I just can't see this appealing to the general public.
-
leave all that cross universe shit out of the movies.
-
Cracked the Hugest Smile seeing the warriors 3! and Sif!
-
Volstagg would be the massive guy with the long red beard, clearly visible in several shots.
-
this may actually work
-
But the shield shit was a distraction that went over their heads and was a complete fucking distraction. No one appreciates this stuff except comic geeks.

This looks like my balls after a long walk on a hot summer day..
by the_floating_skull_of_robert_loggia
Saggy and wrinkled and sweaty and, seeing as how I'm married, ultimately pointless.
-
Never a big THOR fan - read it a bit when I was 15 or so. But the mythology was always nice, and the tone looks spot-on and appropriate for the story. Dude LOOKS like Thor should look. Portman is smoking hot. Asgard looks sweet. The Destroyer has great threatening look. I am cautiously optimistic this will do more than not suck.
-
What the hell happened to Kenneth fuckin' Brannagh?!? lol That looks TEEEEERRRRRRIBLE. What the fuck happened? I was actually moderately excited about seeing what they would do to bring Thor to life on screen... but THIS is the best they could come up with? Jesus christ on a stick. EVERYTHING is off about this. From the shitty, generic action trailer "rock" music, to the overdone looking up into the sky on your knees and yelling shot... to the wooden acting by BIG BLONDE GUY and Natalie (whom i think is cute as a freakin' button, but she's giving off a star wars prequel vibe here...), to the fucking awful costumes... to the bland/uninspired CGI... the laughable dialogue, the drab cinematography... the silly, staged fight coreography. FUCK, there ain't one thing about this trailer that gets me excited... not ONE damn thing lol. And did Anthony hopkins fucking GROWL? Like a lion?? lol What the fuck was that all about?
-
Pure awesomeness !!!
-

How the fuck is anyone satisfied by this? lol
by that_girl_from_the_lowes_commercials_gar
You all must be intense Thor comic fans or something... who are simply blinded by their own nostalgia. 'Cause this looks fuckin' B.A.D. It seriously reminds me of The Chronicles of Riddick. Same look, same tone, same budget/costumes/set design... and that is DEFINITELY not a good thing... lol
-
I haven't been too happy with the images we've been treated to over the past couple of weeks, but I must say, the footage is impressive. I can now see what they are trying to do. I am hopeful.
-
It just doesn't look like it's much fun. Everything Asgard side looks elaborately designed but lifeless, and everything Earth side looks like rejected Iron Man locales, explosions, SHIELD, and un-godlike fisticuffs.
At least Kat Dennings and Portman are easy on the eyes. -
...like cutscenes from a generic video game, camera always in motion and camera angles we have all seen countless times. The acting also looks suspect, but with Branagh at the helm you have to expect a lot of pathos.
-
Me likey. And if it all comes together....Marvel Movieverse! Never before attempted. History kiddies. You're living it.
-
.......The exterior shots of Asgard look appropriately done.
Trailer music sucked though. Why can't they ever get anything iconic for these things.
The Jury is still a little bit out on Thor himself, since this trailer doesn't show him doing any actual Super-powered Superhero stuff - aside from just swinging Mjolnir around a lot.
I wonder if they give him the ability to fly in this one. Older versions of the comics had him grounded, but in more recent versions he can fly.
Oh and Devastator also looks pretty good even though a little too Stark-technology-esque.
Interested in seeing how Branagh handles this one. -
Now, I'm not a comics guy but I was really psyched to see this but the description of this video that was all over the Internet kind of ruined the video for me. But still the description was badass. Still, when I saw this video, it was less awesome than described but then again, the golden rule is that trailers lie. I still have hopes for this movie but I'm more cautious about it. Either way, I'm going to see it but now I understand why some fans are even questioning how the fuck it would logically connect to the world of Iron Man and Hulk cinematically.

My god... how far standards have dropped.
by that_girl_from_the_lowes_commercials_gar
Seriously guys? THIS is passable at the first crack at THOR?? Wow. Did they really have to go with the cliched plot line about some godlike entity being banished to earth... where he meets up with 2 goofy ass female characters as an excuse to show off his ripped abs and his 6-pack? FUCK ME. I was expecting something more grounded. More mythical or something... This just seems entirely self-aware and corny. Good lord... Here's hoping Captain America doesn't look this bad. C'mon Marvel...

could have made this look this cool. Gotta give him props for this. I didn't want to see this, now it's up near the top of my list of movies to see.
-
Asgard with Rainbow bridge (check), Odin, Thor and Loki in appropriate attire (check), Thor kicked down to Earth to learn humility (check),Jane Foster to be the damsel in distress (check) Destroyer so Thor can have a huge climatic battle and save the day (check).

Love it.

Shit, i'm glad i never got into the THOR comics...
by that_girl_from_the_lowes_commercials_gar
I probably would have commited suicide after seeing that shitty trailer. Seriously though, to anyone that actually read the comics... this cannot be faithful to the source material, right? And i don't mean "oh look, it's that random, obscure guy from the comic, nice!" type shit. I'm talking like TONE, FEEL, LOOK, etc... I was expected something COMPLETELY different lol
-
WTF?!
-
for linking a guy to the footage (for advocating piracy), and yet Ain't It Cool throws it up on the main page. Makes sense.
-
Jul 29, 2010 1:19:13 AM CDT
i'm about to watch this shit again...
by that_girl_from_the_lowes_commercials_gar
just to see if i somehow missed anything amazing the first time around... as the majority of people on this TB seem to be impressed by it. Very curious...
-
Look forward to it now. I am sure this clip will be gone soon though. No way they want that much out this soon. Sold me for a first month of release theatre visit.
-
Calm down calm down,
What were you expecting that would be completley different?. You must have been expecting something that looked nothing like the comics then. Yes a little too much Shield in the trailer, but I think they got the 'look' spot on. Destroyer looks like he walked straight out of a comic btw -
This looks amazing, people are bitching because they have grown sick of posting "where are all the black people" troll comments on the imdb boars for inception.....this is going to be amazing
-
Honestly, this looks like X-Men 3 meets Clash of the Titans (Remake) meets Chronicles of Riddick. It's trying SOOOO hard to be "cool" and "hip" but it just fails miserably...lol This really may be the worst trailer of the year so far, just behind the new Resident Evil movie. That may be, in fact, the worst trailer i have ever seen... no hyperbole.
-
That's all I need, a fun movie. I can't believe the fuckheads on this thread. All we need is a FUN MOVIE! Thanks Kenneth, it look like you will deliver.
-
That looked fantastic. I'm personally quite excited for this.
-
Admit it youd like the new Resident Evil if Paul Anderson wasnt directing it..its ok even though AICN is an Anderson hating site im sure they wont kick you off if you declared some love for the guys films lol
-
It just seems to cruel to have five minute preview this early and have to wait ten months. Can we have it for Xmas please? We'll be good. Please?
-
They treat every word of Devin's like it's the gospel. Who died and made him God? Now they throw a hissy fit if you link to another website. You have to hide the URL inside a post because the small group of editors are too slow to post "new" news like everyone else. The only guy worth reading wrote the recaps/analysis for Lost and is doing a series on Twin Peaks.
-
My Thor doesn't have facial hair. Otherwise, this looks as good as a THOR movie is ever going to look.
-

Worse trailers than RE Afterlife would be original Star Wars and
by stormwatcher
Superfly trailer is pretty aweful too. Trailer for Yoggie Bear was pretty bad and that just came out. Trailer for Kangaroo Jack was pretty terrible. Lots of movies with worse trailers than this at least. This sizzle reel certainly means it won't detract from Iron Man.
-
lol You simply have AWFUL taste. No question. Saying this looks "awesome" leads me to believe that you are either 12 years old, or you have some learning disability or something. Judging film just ain't your thing buddy ;-) But back to the trailer... the performances just look so dead. So lifeless... and every fucking shot is so generic. So uninspired.... This is actually starting to make me angry lol. I'm starting to feel like i did after watching Predators... uh-oh.
-
This movie looks incredible. I dont know what the hell some of you people are talking about.
-
..yeah..i know the girl you're talkin' about("..its really green..")..she does have that Wednesday Addams forehead goin' on..i imagine her fuckin' that Lowes guy while her husbands at work (in exchange for repairs)..yeah i know..im sick in the head..
-
So let me get this straight. Norse Gods. Right. But, Heimdal is black and Hogun is asian. Yeah that makes sense to me.
-
its fine...they will get it...it ties it together and i doubt they are going to ruin the movie...calm the fuck down
-
Each to their own buddy your entitles to your oppinion im entitles to mine..I just like throwing a dose of sarcasm in with mine...take my comments with a pinch of salt, Oh and calling metwelve is fresh seeing as you use language that can only be described as pre-school I mean resorting to bad language what are we ten.
-
That_Girl I like how you think if someone disagrees with you they have awful taste. Oh wait, I don't. Fucking idiot. Everyone has different perspectives. Vive la difference! Personally I think this looks fun.
-
I gotta go with Yogi Bear. In the interest of staying neutral I pledge to see neither one.
-
So let me get this straight, if I like this trailer (which I do) I'm either 12 years old, retarded, or have awful taste (none of those describe me).
Hmm, I didn't know someone couldnt have a differing opinion than yours without being retarded.
But whatever, you even said yourself you don't know anything about Thor. I'm sorry this isn't what you were 'expecting', but get over it. As someone who knows and loves the character, this is great. And your accusations that this movie 'tries to be hip' just befuddles me. I dont know where you got that from, now I just feel like you're saying anything insulting that comes to mind -
It's even WORSE the 2nd time! lol This is fucking unbelievable. That black guy looks ridiculous, as does that emo/goth looking fruit with the slicked-back black hair... my god. And that CGI at the end? WTF?!? That looked worse than GORT from the day the earth stood still remake. Someone please list a specific thing about this that looks good. I didn't even plan on posting in this talkback, but this was so phenomonally bad that i just had to vent...
-
Looks like Kenneth Branagh is about the pull of the impossible, making a Thor movie that's remotely believable.
-
Ok I can list one thing the casting of THOR and his look are spot on...THIS IS MY OPPINION
-
Jul 29, 2010 1:37:54 AM CDT
I have to really question...
by that_girl_from_the_lowes_commercials_gar
the taste of ANYBODY that finds this trailer impressive. Even "passable", let alone "Awesome!"... This is like "Ghost Rider" bad. "Jonah Hex" bad. Seriously, you guys mock Michael Bay (who deserves a lot of crap, admitedly...), but you praise... THIS?!? LMAO awwwww sweet irony
-
As a comic book geek, I am super pleased.
-
Woo Loki sucks in this piece of shit. Anyone thinking this film's going to be worth admission needs their head examined. By the way, I had it on mute.
-
Of course, besides Downey Jr as Stark Iron Man was severely boring and overrated. I have a feeling that Thor is going to be near The Hulk movies. Probably less successful because Thor is even less popular. Amongst anyone I know anyways.
-
I am not 12,
I do not like the RE movies,
I am not an avid THOR reader,
but I think
THIS LOOKS AWESOME -
someone who is criticizing a trailer to a movie they admittedly know NOTHING ABOUT. Idiot.
-
The only reason they post is so they can get their rocks off by bating fanboys....on the plus side im really impressed with how Marvel are handeling their properties lately..now if only DC could get their act together and make a decent batman movie...kidding
-
kickin ass and takin names. I'm not a DC reader in the slightest but I love their characters and hope superman gets a decent movie soon.
-
Agreed but they are fun guilty pleasures..loved the comic book panel editing style in Ang Lee's version
-
You fuckin' imbecile. lol Of course people have different opinions. But you fail to consider WHY people have differing opinions. I'll give you a hint. There is a real, TANGIBLE explanation for it. And a lot of it has to do with... INTELLIGENCE! As a general rule, more intelligent people have better taste in art, such as film/music/books, etc... Oops! My bad. I should have put a ***SPOILER*** warning on that one, as many people seem to be woefully ignorant about how "taste" and "opinions" are crafted...
-
Nothing wrong with Superman Returns I liked it hope they bring back Routh for Man Of Steel.
-
Sure, you could watch the new Resident Evil: Afterlife trailer and say "WOW, that looks fucking WICKED!". And yes, that would be your "opinon". But let it be known that you are, in fact, a FUCKING IDIOT. And you will be mocked and ridiculed for your awful, awful taste in film... :-)
-
BUT, posting them on a site where feedback is allowed means that people will weigh in. I don't mind the trailer but I have a feeling this movie will be amongst the other mediocre superhero movies. I don't read comics though, so maybe I'm automatically not amused like some (then again, I'm not likely to hate it ruining something I like). Also, trailers should be criticized because they are "the sell" to the public about a movie that nobody knows about. I'd say I'm more interested in Thor having seen that trailer but like I said, I have this feeling of mediocrity.
-
...you have better taste than Kenneth Branagh? Is that what you're telling me?
You're not doin anything to prove your point dipshit. Just how exactly does us liking this footage and you NOT liking it put you above us? -
I remember K.B stating that once Thor used his powers, you will know he is a GOD. It's great to see that S.H.I.E.L.D is getting an expanded role. A wonderful addition that grounds these movies in reality.
-
All I am saying is I have my guilty pleasures...I guess I must not be intelligent then because as a general rule as well as finding this exciting and loving Paul Anderson movies I am a fan of Renessaince Art, the music of phillip Glass the writings of Charles Dickens and I consider one of my favorite films to be To Kill A Mocking Bird..hmmm I must be a thicko with no taste you are right as usual
-
And I grabbed a copy before anyone can take it down.
-
What ever that thing at the end was that should have been in IM2. It already looks better then IM2. Asgard looks fucking Awesome.

by ganymede3010
I can understand someone stating their displeasure. However, making multiple posts and insulting others for not sharing the same subjective views as you is beyond juvenile.
-
People are gonna hate on everything that takes a risk. I doubt this will be the biggest hit of the Marvel Movieverse but I can't wait and I'll be there opening day.
-
"a trailer that they know nothing about". What the fuck man, is that a real argument? I know all i need to know. I know, that for 2 and a half minutes, i was literally LAUGHING OUT LOUD at the sheer AWFULNESS that i was witnessing. We can't make a judgement based on 3 minutes of footage? And said footage should be the BEST STUFF FROM THE FILM (looking at you Watchmen...lol)??? What a completely idiotic statement! Fuck it, it's not even worth debating with someone as retarded as yourself. And before you all call out "TROLL! TROLL! TROLL ALERT!!!", i don't make it a habit of doing this. I haven't posted a single time about a shitty trailer. Seriously, this is the first time i've done so. I even posted in the talkback for Sucker Punch, and i didn't even completely rag on that one! I actually tried to give Zack Snyder the benefit of the doubt. At least he has some semblance of "vision" in his bizarre-ass looking flick lol. But this trailer... this is just... indefensible.
-
better than i thought it was gonna LOOK, but we'll see story wise.
-
Favreau is another M. Knight in the making. I still can't remove the sordid images of that deplorable Bar scene out of my mind.
-
Dude, seriously? You can fuck right off lol. "Hate everything that takes a risk"??? WTF?!? That's the whole fucking problem with this shitty looking film. There is absolutely NO RISK. How the fuck can't you see this?? It's so utterly and completely generic/derivative/uninspired it's not even funny. That is precisely WHY i'm "hating" on it. NO FUCKING RISK. Pure garbage.
-

I've never read a Thor comic.
by ooooooooooooooouuuuuuuuuutttttlllllaaaaa
I've also never known that much about the Avengers. I think this looks pretty good. But yeah, the SHIELD stuff needs to be kept to a minimum. I'm curious most to see how they handle the whole "gods" thing in the real world. "Thor" always seemed kind of goofy to me because of that whole thing.
-
but it better be better if i'm going to watch it more than once.
-
Still the greatest Comic book movie is Superman 1978
-
aped the style of Bram Stoker's Dracula for Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. Would've liked to see more idiosyncratic directing, but they must be trying to keep the various movies that dovetail in The Avengers not too disparate.
-
The lady who is the man who is the GARGANTUAN_FOREHEAD has controversial opinions on the internet, and he won't stop until lots of people have read them. Hey-elp!
If only Abonimible Snowcone was here to save us. -
through a genre pic.
-
Note how I said a trailer to a MOVIE they know nothing about.
You clearly dont know anything about the movie or the character or what makes the Thor comics great.
I didnt say anything about you not knowing anything about the trailer. You're right, that'd be a retarded thing to do. Almost as retarded as not understanding something that was typed out on the screen in front of you, and then misquoting it.
Almost as retarded as trying to justify why you AREN'T a troll.
Almost as retarded as telling us we have awful taste if we like this movie
Almost as retarded as the name "That_Girl_From_The_Lowes_Commercials_GARGANTUAN_FOREHEAD".
That REALLY does scream great taste, by the way. -
"What I don’t think is beneficial if I may digress, is undo criticism of writers, actors, directors, who have performed to the best of their ability and garner an inordinate amount of hateful feelings or vindictive statements that serve no purpose other than to provide a platform for the hater. I’ve always felt that criticism is invaluable as long as the critic, after he has stated his case on why he dislikes a film, an actor or a director then gives constructive criticism on how he feels a performance or film can be made better. "
-
You can't be serious. I mean, do i just have THAT good of an imagination? Does that make my standards simply too high?? I wouldn't think so. I do have a pretty fantastic imagination, but it's not like i expect the impossible... Sorry, but i just expect way more than this. But hey, if you're impressed by the likes of Fantastic Four, Ghost Rider, Wolverine, Blade Trinity, and this Thor trailer... than, i guess i just pity you really lol And i kind of envy your "blissfull ignorance" ;-)
-
seriously enough with the lol and smiley faces, jesus christ
-
Are we allowed to bate haters after all they bate us its only fair why should they have all the fun lol
-
Are we allowed to bate haters after all they bate us its only fair why should they have all the fun lol
-
They're quick to be the rebellious cool kids and trash something, yet show me something creative they've ever done.
-
That's fucking amazing right there. Hate all you want but Marvel is pushing the boundaries of what film can be. This looks not only epic but seems to flow flawlessly with the world Iron Man created. If people by into this and Captain America, then The Avengers could be the most anticipated film ever.
-

-
The look was more Ultimates than I expected. Great trailer!
-
And Blade 2. I didn't even know he was a comic book character until I saw those movies. Too bad Blade is getting locked up for a little while. He might deserve it for Blade 3.
-
Stupid derping Apple Mobile Devices...
-
Muust be That Girls retard vibe rubbing off on me..must have struck a note with he/she/it she cant be bothered to respond to my comments
-
I agree. I usually take the 'high road' when dealing with morons on the internet, but every now and then its just to fun haha
-
Good flick. I wish someone would use that style to make a serious superhero movie. With the editing, framing, and special effects (like the powers, or the "Bam!" "Pow" appearing on the screen. Would be interesting.
-
reading this talkback is just insane! I'm seriously baffled here. I'm not even really angry anymore... just kinda shocked. I mean, usually, these talkbacks are notorious for stupid people just going off on hate-filled rants and talking shit about things that don't deserve it. But this on the other hand, is something that actually SHOULD be getting vile, hate-filled venomous attacks. However, it's, for the most part, getting praise...??? which is just incomprehensible to me lol. This is foreign territory for me here. I'm gonna have to get to the bottom of this...
-
they only project the negativity that others projject onto them you have to feel some sympathy but not alot
-
with that last brief scene of this terrible looking cgi gay robot they just lost half of a audience - everybody except 30 year old virgins
-
who cares? discussion doesn't mean going on hate-filled tirades.
-
"He was a fan of Renessaince Art, the music of phillip Glass the writings of Charles Dickens and he considered one of his favorite films to be To Kill A Mocking Bird. Also liked going on web forums stating the above." ;)
-
Did you say this movie looks... "Fun"? Really? FUN??? When i think "FUN", i think of... Star wars, Raiders of the lost ark, Back to the future, Jurassic park, hell Crank even... but THIS? FUN??? I guess if you consider The Chronicles of Riddick fun... or Wolverine FUN. Jeebus help me..
-
GET IT RIGHT thats 32 year old non virgin lol
-
Someone upload that chiz to YouTube.
-
and way to continue babbling on about why you're sooo confused as to why everyone likes this trailer. Maybe cause its good and we know what we're talking about? I dunno, just a guess.
-
Ok, you got me. Yogi Bear looks PHENOMENALLY retarded. Absolutely. So, ok. Thor is the 3rd worst trailer of the year. And speaking of GOOD trailers... has anyone seen the "Monsters" teaser that was finally released? Now THAT looks like a fucking classy film. Talk about "Risk-taking"... Geesh, c'mon guys!
-
What? a guy cant eat olives and fetta cheese with a glass of red while still enjoying a big mac and coke...Im only on here because I enjoy discussing movies with people at the moment i am also on imdb discussing Clive Barkers films

"talkbacks are notorious for stupid people just going off on hat
by ooooooooooooooouuuuuuuuuutttttlllllaaaaa
The sad thing is, someone will come to this talkback assuming it's half positive and half negative. Then they'll take a closer look and just see one person throwing a temper tantrum on the negative side. They'll finally leave before noticing that while it's mostly positive feedback, there is actually more than one person with a negative response.
-
Wow, the strength of your argument really sings there in the personal attacks, buddy. You've spat out several deranged paragraphs assaulting talkbackers and all it shows is that you take "let's pretend" way too seriously. I sincerely hope you find something more important in your life than Thor. Pathetic.
-
you made my week.
-
my curiosity is piqued
-
For a "Thor" film, this does look suspiciously pedestrian and not epic. I hate the idea of THor walking around in a t-shirt and jeans. Just stupid, stupid. But it looks about in line with "Iron Man 2" and "Incredible Hulk" in terms of quality. Overall 'meh' movies that were hits, or relative hits, with the general public.
-
"Nothing less than mind-blowing." No fucking way. I don't believe this guy. You can't be serious my friend... "MIND BLOWING"?!? That term would be used for something like... gee, i don't know, the first "Inception" Teaser... to some extent, the Tron: Legacy teaser i guess... But THOR?!? I'm sure you probably reacted the same way when you saw the trailer for 2012 lol
-
exactly lol... that bitch is just SO FREAKY to me... i had to change my screen name just to honor her... insanely large cranium ;-)

Of course, I drank a whole box (3 liters) of red wine last Friday... I was only making a joke of how Girl_head-boy used that to show how much better than everyone else he is. And I wasn't even that serious, did you see the little smiley smile winky face? GREAT TRAILER!
-
but this looks flipping ace!
-
Do I even have to see the movie next year? I feel like I saw it. That trailer showed everything.
-
I'll torrent this
-
sorry mind torn between two boars at the moment while trying to figure out what the hell im going to eat
-
I never said "anyone who disagrees with me is a fucking idiot!". Fuck, you defensive, tasteless, apolgistic ass-clowns are so fucking predictable. I wouldn't even WANT everyone to have the exact same opinions as i do. HOWEVER, i would love it if people all just had generally decent taste...some objectivity...some fucking STANDARDS, you know? You don't have to like everything i like. But there has to be some common thread... Like there are just certain films that cannot be defended or respected on any level, i.e. Predators, Wolverine, Catwoman, Ecks vs. Sever, Big Mommas House, etc... The look of THIS film, from THIS trailer absolutely gives off a vibe that is as bad as those previously mentioned movies. So again, stop it with the fucking logical fallacies, and generalizations about me, 'cause you are dead. fucking. WRONG. In conclusion, i still hate you if you think this movie looks good. That is all :-)
-
If you never read the comics, you wouldn't know the tone of the comics and really shouldn't be the one passing judgement here. The story of a god cast down to live the life of a mortal was and always has been the story of Thor. You don't like it, fine, but the character has been around for 40 years. Clearly there is something that appeals to people, if not you, and given the response of most of the fans here, it seems that the trailer (and hopefully the film) have captured it. Now stop being a troll and go talk about something you actually enjoy.

by ooooooooooooooouuuuuuuuuutttttlllllaaaaa
that-lady-man. So, you're saying you don't like the trailer? I'm confused. Please, elaborate.
-
It looks ok not great, just ok.
-
Someone who ISN'T crazy besides me! lol I agree with you that anyone that finds this remotely satisfying should have their heads examined. PRONTO!
-
and that's not a bad thing. I wasn't expecting much from a Thor movie with the costume and everything. Yea the outfits all look a little "power rangerish" but the whole concept is kinda from the same neighborhood. Ideally I would have preferred a look that was more ancient authentic Nordic looking or more like the Ultimates version. But they probably didn't have the budget for it. At least it appears to respect the source material and there's something to be said for that these days.
-
when I click on the link I am bombarded by pop windows with ads. WTF!
-
CGI looks okay... why Thor has an Aussie accent I don't fucking know... and the dialogue is shit. Will it make money? Probably. Michael Bay does it.
-
Actually, the Trailer didn't show Thor using any of his powers. However it did show ALOT.
-
Will be the new Re-invention in a few years time and thats not a bad thing

Yeah, agreed, but wow. I feel like I saw a lot. Did anyone notice at the end where the guy is picking up the hammer was at the same location the hammer was in Iron Man 2?

"...you have better taste than Kenneth Branagh? Is that what you're telling me? You're not doin anything to prove your point dipshit. Just how exactly does us liking this footage and you NOT liking it put you above us?" Actually, DIPSHIT, i DID post SPECIFIC fucking things about this trailer that looked AWFUL. On the other hand... YOU, did NOT. You just said it looked "TEH AWEESOMEZ!!1!!". Who's the fucking idiot now? Try actually formulating a RETORT next time, listing specific examples to make some sort of counter-argument. Jesus, it's like explaining calculus to a 3rd grader...

live or die, I'm gonna be there to watch it because it's friggin' THOR. I've been wanting to see a Thor movie since "Adventures of Baby Sitting" teased my imagination...I'm sure this will suffice.

obviously SHIELD built some cover around it between IM 2 and Thor

Looks sweet. I agree with someone who said it seemed kind of 'lifeless' in parts, but the vid quality ain't that great and they got a full year to go before it's released, could be a lot of effects shit not yet in it. Still, fucking Thor! Awesome.
-
1) I like how Kenneth Brangah has given Asgard a sci-fi meets old world vibe.
2) I enjoyed how the trailer mentioned Tony Stark and showed Agent Coulson this for those who enjoyed IM 1 & 2 is a selling point and will get fans of those films excited.
3) Obviously they are showing alot of the big scenes here in the trailer and I feel they are only showing the tips of those iceberg/scenes leaves me feeling excited as to what more there could be.
and 4...its not the end of the world its just a trailer that we fanboys are excited about just another movie we all move on to the next one -
I'm in geek heaven. Haters, suck my balls!

Why can't they just carve out the dirt underneath and then carry it to the Heli-carrier for study? Does the legend state that only the worthy can dig beneath Mjoljinirijnir or what?

DRPOO... thank you for responding somewhat coherently ;-)
by that_girl_from_the_lowes_commercials_gar
you said: "All I am saying is I have my guilty pleasures...I guess I must not be intelligent then because as a general rule as well as finding this exciting and loving Paul Anderson movies I am a fan of Renessaince Art, the music of phillip Glass the writings of Charles Dickens and I consider one of my favorite films to be To Kill A Mocking Bird..hmmm I must be a thicko with no taste you are right as usual". I'm glad to hear that you read Charles Dickens. Also glad to hear you enjoy listening to Philip Glass, as he is one of my favorites as well :-) HOWEVER... i still have concluded, that you do, in fact, have poor taste in film. That really isn't a question at this point (especially after admitting you love Paul Anderson films)... but that's not to say that you're a complete mongloid or anything like that. You just don't have good taste in film. I can deal with that. I don't have good taste in "fashion", whatever that means lol... but i don't go onto fashion-based internet forums and argue about clothes and shit, attempting to say that my opinion on fashion is somehow on the same level as a person well-versed in the subject. I'm not a fuckin' hypocrite lol. So fine, you don't have good taste in film. Just don't try to argue your position, saying your opinion is as "valid" as someone like me ;-) (not saying you were "arguing" it, but you know what i mean lol)
-
Anyone going to a Marvel movie expecting to see something Avant Garde or super-sophisticated is the damn moron. Lower your expectations, take the stick out your ass, and learn to have fun...if you need an "intelligence" fix go watch Ingmar Bergman or Hitchcock and let the fanboys have their freaking day! Stuck up sons-of-bitches; I hope someone knocks over your coffin at your funeral...that means you That_Girl...fuckin' yutz.

but that kicked ass. I hope the movie is half as good as this preview. Huh huh!
-
I'm not big fan of Thor, but that interested me enough to see the movie. I hope Sam Jackson has a cameo.
-
why the fuck does Thor have an aussie accent? When he says, "Oh no this is Earth isn't it?" or some shit like that... I was waiting him to just go full blown aussie slang/colloquolisms... his accent was so thick. "Oh, no this Earth isn't it, mate? Crikey! I may seem like I have a few Kangaroos loose in the top paddock... but, I'm actually an alien with cool fuckin' powahs!"
-
Allow me to teach you a lesson in life. Elections are simply official opinions. I thought Al Gore should have beaten Bush 43 back in 2000. That was my opinion and even though I stick by it, it was to no avail. This time, you may be voting for bad trailer, but the majority - which includes me this time - seems to be voting for good. Opinions are like assholes, everyone does have one. It's simply that he (or she) who continually mouths off and calls others ignorant or stupid because of their opinion ends up looking like the largest asshole, so in this case ... well, you claim to be a smart one, so I'll let you figure it out.
-
nice name by the way... *sarcasm* (for all the slow people out there) Sorry about the abundance of :-)'s and lol's. I truly am. It's just that most people on the internet are fucking STUPID, and sometimes you have to add those things in to your posts or people will miss the intended "tone" of your words. So it's used mainly to compensate for people's stupidity. But i'll try to post without them. Just for you...

I refer to my original statement everyone has different taste and different oppinions one mans gold is another mans shit and vice versa as well as loving PWSA films I have
a love for all films and can appreciate the good and the bad i dont discriminate when it comes to film and I am and always have been well versed in film...so if you want to discuss this trailer and its bad taste points then lets go for it but i can guarantee you chica you try to challenge my love, taste and knowledge of films then I will leave you in the dust anytime -
FAIL again! Wow, fag, you're batting 1.000 today! I didn't mean i didn't know anything about the fucking TRAILER. I MEANT, that i don't need to know anything about THOR to realize how shitty the trailer is. Got it, fuckhead? That's like saying to someone, after watching the Resident Evil Afterlife trailer: "dude, you cant comment on it. You don't know anything about Resident Evil, so how could you form any kind of valid opinion about what you just saw on screen." Please tell me that you see just how fucking RETARDED that is. Absolute Anti-logic right there my friend... but keep up the good work!
-
In the kingdom of subjectivity (or as you say, "taste") every viewpoint is a prince. Knowledge may grant an advantage but NO ONE's opinion is infallible when it comes to art...at least be intellectually honest enough to admit that. Even a child can see the beauty in the Mona Lisa...and it doesn't make the child less than because it also likes play-doh figurines...just less learned...and it doesn't make the aged's grasp of art superior (save in knowledge) just...old.

Can you imagine the type of individual who has absolutely nothing going on in there life….nothing… that they have to actually throw a conniption fit it the hope that it will cause someone to notice them? Seriously. So devoid of any type of human contact that they actually need to go to a entertainment website and feel they have to arouse the wrath and ire of people by insulting them just to get some sort of attention. Oh and what awesome insults they are . All original in there content and meaning. I’m sure many a people have burst into tears with their intelligence being called into question about a comic book movie. A comic book movie Then this person, noticing that the long eluded attention has been garnered, always comes back and response to those who naturally comment negatively, “ I am so much smarter than you. I am a member of Mensa. I know everything about everything. I have everything going for me. The hottest partner. The greatest job. All bow to my awesomeness“ All of course are not true, but said person will of course argue adamantly to there validity. Then that person can go to sleep with the belief that they have suddenly become a actual force in life. That people will be talking about them all through the day. That they have suddenly become famous for ruling an online talkback that is read by .0000000000000001 percent on the worlds population. Ah…. No Nobody cares. Nobody ever has and nobody ever will. For no fault of your own you were born a loser. You can’t help it. Just happens to a lot of people. And your one of them. Nobody knows who you are and nobody cares and you can continue on and on and you will still be what you are. Nothing And nobody cares.

"and way to continue babbling on about why you're sooo confused as to why everyone likes this trailer. Maybe cause its good and we know what we're talking about? I dunno, just a guess." Maybe cause its good and we know what we're talking about? Um....no? Nobody has said anything about SPECIFICALLY why they think it looks cool. I gave REASONS. You HAVE NOT. You are losing this debate here my friend. I know you're just mad at me for calling you out on your terrible taste in film, so i can understand the animosity towards me. I really do... but i feel that this needed to be said. I may be acting like an asshole (just a bit), but it does NOT take away from the fact, that i am correct. That simple. In other words, i would much rather be a "cocky asshole with good taste", than an "easy-going, pleasant, tasteless ignoramus".

It's funny because the thing I was most worried about, - thors costume actually looks good, especially the billowy cape. I agree the music is too iron man and needs it's own voice, something classical. One question I have is why banish Thor and then send down his hammer too? Is that what happened in the comics?

I liked the costume too! In motion, it works. The only thing I'm iffy about is the CGI city but I doubt the work is totally done on that. I doubt that's the music they'll be using, though. I feel like I've heard one of those songs elsewhere.I know in the Ultimates version Loki manipulated reality into making it seem like Thor was responsible for some crime that Loki had committed.
-
and sadly I still think all the armour looks terrible (especially Sif's for some reason) but I guess I'm going to have to get over. I actually think all the Earth clips look fun and the Destroyer tease is great.
-
No more troll feeding. What are your thoughts about Thor's place in the Marvel Movieverse?
-
A film adaptation of a superhero comic book. It's not the cure for cancer. It's not Shakespeare (but Branagh is well suited to give it a Shakespearian vibe whereas other directors couldn't). I don't get these motherfuckers that post a hundred times on here looking for fights. Old lady didn't put out tonight and you're coming here to vent your frustrations by pissing on a few frames of film for a movie that won't be finished for almost another year? GIVE ME A FUCKING BREAK.
-
Fuck you, and your defense of the weak. I don't need any fucking validation here. lol I've probably posted here less than 100 times (been reading this site on ocassion for the better part of 10 years). But yeah, keep throwing out ignorant claims and predictable generalizations like: I live in my parent's basement, i have no friends, i am a virgin, i have no life, no goals... and all that bullshit. You don't fucking know me. I don't really give a shit whether you believe me or not, but i am NONE of those things. I'm also not FAT. Forgot to list that one above... So yeah bud, just keep on thinkin' that shit. I could turn the tables on you actually. That you respond like that, and you go to bed thinking "Gee, i really showed that worthless pile of shit...*giggle* i'm fucking AWESOME!" I can assume you're gonna do JUST THAT. I, however, am going to go to sleep tonight, without giving a shit either way, about what is said on here. I got better stuff to think about. So you are gravely mistaken, if you think this is some attention-seeking, approval-desiring outburst. But i'm sure you don't believe a word of this, which is exactly what i would expect, so i'm probably just wasting my time. And if you actually read the talkback, the apologists are doing the "flaming/hating" more than i was. The worst thing i did was state that people defending this had poor taste. Not my fuckin' problem if people get bent out of shape about it. But they aren't fucking innocent. "Anyone hating on this can suck my balls!" That was actually said by a defender. But they're off the hook, and I'M the bad guy... yeah, that's fair lol... fucking morons.
-
I see the Movie as the background mythology to the forthcoming avengers movie, CAP AM will set up the basic ideas of the avengers while IM has set up the tech side.....Thor wont be as game changing as Spider-man or X-men but it will be another Iron Man a little known character that the public will get behind
-
I've never been a huge fan of Marvel's god characters, always found them to be bit silly. But this actually interests me more than any other Marvel title,
-
You fell into the trap.
I've always felt that a person who is capable of defending their point with concise eloquence makes a much better point than those those who resort to the old "F#@& Y*#" retort.
Then again, Lowes Girl resorted to the preemptive pejorative first, so I suppose you were allowed one retaliatory strike.
The trailer looks good. My only major complaint would be the Aussie accent, but they still have time to fix that.
Destroyer looks like it walked right off the pages of the comic book. -

Take out the overhead screaming in the rain shot - all rocked
by tall_boy66
I kind of hope the movie is structured like the trailer is - random homeless jacked up dude pops up on Earth, smacks around some SHEILD punks, and nobody knows who he is and THEN you flashback to Asgard and all that crazy shit. Even though we all know who and what he is walking in the pretense of a mystery. But I quite liked it. Lose the AARRRGGGHHHHH overhead to the heavens shot, though. Please. Thanks.
-
Its still in the early stages of Post Production...yes its an old apologetic excuse but its true their is still 75 percent left to be added to the film and once it is finished then the results will speak for themselves

38 seconds in. I betcha dollars to donuts that was just tossed into the trailer to slap together some non-finalized sound effects. Really funny sounding, though. It's like the Whilhem Scream of action scenes.

That_Girl_From_The_Lowes_Commerc ials_GARGANTUAN_FOREHEAD pointed out the connection and I have to agree that all the Asgard clips do feel disturbingly like CoR. It's all very lifeless and probably nothing at all like a Viking court would have appeared. I guess I was hoping it would be more Riders of Rohan and less Masters of the Universe (the movie). Despite this I'm still on the fence because I really WANT this film to work. Oh and also the "magic and science are the same" bullshit is exactly the lame cop out I was expecting for this to gel with the feel of other marvel movies. It's such a wimp out notion. It's insulting that they even feel they need to explain it. How about "the reason you don't have or can even understand magic is because you fundamentally believe in science." maybe? People would get that surely. People get Harry Potter for fucks sake. Some people have magic, miracles and monsters and some people don't. We can handle it - you just don't need to explain the arse out of it. It smacks of film making by committee, paranoia about the quality of the core idea of the film and is also boring as hell. /endrant
-
I love how people are attacking me here (blatant personal attacks, ignorant generalizations, etc...), but they have not ONCE defended the horrible trailer. Not ONCE, did any of you retort what i actually said. Nice going. I'll take that as a clear sign of "victory" for me ;-) But if anyone wants to actually DISCUSS THE FILM/TRAILER, fine... i would be more than happy to ablige. Again, if my words seem a little harsh, then fine... You can call me an asshole all you want. I can live with that. But hey, at least i'm intelligent, passionate, creative, objective, and i maintain high standards for film/music, etc... i think it's really just having to put up with constant stupidity/selfishness/poor taste, etc. for so long that it's caused me to become a tad bitter/irritable lol But i fucking stand by my convictions, and i can say unequivocally, that this film looks awful. And if you don't agree, than your standards and tastes are simply lower than mine. Hate to be so blunt about it, but that's the truth. And finally, to all you idiots that believe in this magical, fairy-tale idea of "all opinons are equal", i leave you with one thought: "Britney Spears is a more polished, mature, talented, knowledgeable musician than John Lennon. Mrs. Spears' music is genius, and is far superior to The Beatles... in my humble opinion of course." So that's an honest-to-god, valid, respectable opinion? Hhhhmmm... by your "logic", yes, it is :-) Have a good night y'all.
-
I'm holding out for the "Green Lantern." Martin Campbell (Edge of Darkness and Casino Royale)...Ryan Reynolds (won't be flying around with an Aussie accent)...Peter Sarsgaard...Mark Strong... oh the writers Mike Green (Kings and Heroes)...Marc Guggenheim (Flashforward, Eli Stone, Law and Order)...
The ingredients are there... I hope they mix. -
Thank you for actually commenting on my observations without resorting to name-calling and weak generalizations! Seriously, that was refreshing lol

Because, in the end, an opinion means a crock of shit to anyone else. It only matters to the person who holds it. That's why it's called an opinion and not fact.
-
For this. Big time.
-
My opinion counts 40 percent more but only until I pass out because I am DRUNK.
-
I GUARANTEE you all, that if i went about this a little... "nicer", you guys wouldn't have jumped all over me. You wouldn't have anything to really argue in fact. It was my slightly "venomous" tone, that got your panties in a bunch. So you used that as an opportunity to attack me personally. Pretty weak guys, but i understand... I'll try to "lighten up" a bit. I'll probably get my point across better if i do so more maturely. But i really was just so appalled at the quality (or lackthereof), and seeing people actually DEFENDING it, really just caused me to fly off the handle lol
-
It wasn't that great. Stop splooging all over your PCs.
-
Havnt you gone to bed yet?
eeing people actually DEFENDING it, really just caused me to fly off the handle lol
just because we defended without giving a reason why you flew off the handle...sorry but that is illogical and smacks of chucking the toys out of the pram -

And let me clarify something real quick...
by that_girl_from_the_lowes_commercials_gar
for the simpletons that are calling me a "troll". Actually, a TROLL would really be defined as someone who VERBALLY ASSAULTS people (which i didn't actually do, if you read my fucking posts), they generally SPAM (which i'm obviously not doing), and the main attribute of troll behavior, is saying shit without backing it up. And there's no possible way you can say that about me. Call me an "asshole" all you want, but i back my shit up. I state my case, no questions about that... I may do it kinda rough sometimes, but i know what the fuck i'm talking about lol. Read any previous posts by me, in other talkbacks as well. I probably examine, critique, analyze, debate, deconstruct more than anyone else here. So calling me a simple "troll" like that michael bay fuckwad, or Scarlett's breat milk, or The Choppah, RPlocke, etc... any of those clowns, is really pretty ignorant, and insulting to me. So grow some fucking nads, and try to argue my POINTS, without attacking me personally. Deal?
-
Reasons *I* liked the trailer: 1) Showed Asgard as a true combination of Norse Mythology and Sci-Fi (not "SyFy") aesthetics. Does this mean the movie will be a "film"? Probably not. 2) The Trailer also showed a respect for the source material, something sorely lacking the last few years in "comic movies". The basic story beats are the same as the framework Stan Lee and Jack Kirby laid out all those decades ago in Journey into Mystery (that's where Thor first showed up, FYI) 3) Kat Dennings has big tits. This makes me happy. 4) I like continuity. Shield is being used in these Marvel movies as the continuous element between all the movies from Marvel studios so far. This allows the story to flow between movies, up to and including the Avengers, where all of this story will culminate. 5) Did I mention Kat Dennings has great tits? Seriously though, I doubt this movie will suffer from the issues X-3 or X-men Origins: Wolverine had. Those movies had no respect for source material, poor production values, and horrible casting and special effects. Being so unfamiliar with the Thor comics obviously puts you at a disadvantage for enjoying this movie, and I think your enjoyment of this movie will suffer because you aren't a fan of Thor i the first place. Thor is a very niche character and story. Most people who like him seem to be metalheads/idiots, people who simply like big muscley superhero stories, or people who enjoy the mythology Thor was birthed from, and enjoy folllowing Marvel's take on that mythology. I understand why you didn't like what you saw, and I can understand your position. I'm not too sure that your position grants you the ability or right to name call, or troll the talkbacks like a douche. If you don't like it, fine. Just know I'll be there, enjoying the visual culmination of almost 50 years of COMIC BOOK STORYTELLING, and I'm not going to bitch because the shit happening on the screen looks.....comic-booky. No, kindly fuck off and go make smiley-faces on FB where you belong.
-
LMAO fucking awesome ;-) But yeah, if you just wanna believe that i'm an attention whore... be my guest lol
-
Your mistake was acting like your opinion was somehow above anyone else's. All you're doing is tearing something down and daring someone to do something about it. Yeah, you're passionate, but don't you think you should direct that passion in a more positive direction? Seriously. What do I like about the trailer? It was epic in scale (the Asgard scenes at least), The costumes are great, very Kirbyish, they got really great talent and it seems like it has lots of action. Did anyone see the book Thor was reading? It had a map of the Twelve Realms in it! I think the plot is great. Arrogant God is cast down to Earth to learn humility in order to become the leader he is meant to be! It has shades of Hercules, The Iliad and even a little bit of the Lion King mixed in. Plus, Marvel is in charge of this so you know they will be sticking close to the heart of the character. And for the ones complaining about the t-shirt and jeans, what did you think of Superman 2?
-
I think this was the only Comic-Con Hall H trailer that got an extra play due to audience demand.
I'm not counting the time they re-ran the Trailer Park reel while they took care of that stabby thing. Or Sucker Punch, that was replayed just because no one could figure out what they just saw. -
Even if GORT looks kinda shitty.

I liked this footage. get to see some of the tone of the movie, some of the asgardian exteriors, and I have a rough idea of what the filmmakers are reaching for. No big action scenes, but i'd rather see those in the theater. Looks like a movie i would go see.

1. Totally disagree. In fact, i would say that it looks EXACTLY like a SYFY original production. Shit, take a snapshot of one of the scenes and put it side-by-side of a random shot from Xena... and BAM, same shit! 2. I respect your opinion here. I am not qualified to say anything about the source material, as i didn't read Thor. However, that doesn't make my claims any less valid in regards to all of the other aspects of film-making. But i'm glad it apparently pays respect to some of the source material. 3. Nice. I love me some Kat Dennings! Nice rack, but hardly an objective defense of this silly looking film. 4. Again, see point 2. This doesn't really determine if it's a good "film", despite how "continuity-friendly" it appears to be... 5. Tittays! Again, she is pretty fuckin' hot, as is the beautiful ms. portman. But again, not a solid reason to defend the trailer. So anyway, thanks for at least making a somewhat, honest attempt at engaing debate. Congrats! Drpoo... "nice" enough for you? Still think i'm a troll? Uh huh...
-
Huzzah!!!!!
-
However, they had very good ideas, when it came to the high-flying aerial battles, but because of the then limits of special effects, those scenes weren't as smooth, and...as visually stunning as they should have been. However, that sequence serves as a wonderful template for others to now follow--those, who have access to the newer film technologies in special effects. I think of Superman 2's aerial combat sequence as a fully executed live-action storyboard...for other filmmakers to study, and re-design, and improve upon...that work, with better execution. I would like to see such a scene, executed with the power, and punch as the "Deathstar Trench Attack" scene in Star Wars. Imagine something like that, with humans in place of ships--and in the skyline of a city? It would be visually stunning.
-
And thanks to you man, for a reasonable response. See Passive aggressive trolls (people like drpoo), THAT is how to formulate a "retort"... Yipppe! Ok, first off... the costumes. I really can't understand how you can say they look good. Honestly, man... they're cheap rubber lol. Looks to X-Men'esque. Biggest problem i had with that flick... And the plot? I say cliched, you say it sounds great. Maybe i've just seen more films than you have? Shit, i don't know lol... i'm trying to come up with reasons for the blatant difference in "opinion" here...

unless you're licking something, i thought "taste" was necessarily subjective and abstract. "good taste" smacks of marketing jargon appealing to elitist attitudes, intelligence notwithstanding.
-
I never had a problem with your opinions. I only took issue with your sudden denouncement of everyone's intelligence who differed from your opinions. The irony of your mis-spelling of a word of 4th to 5th grade difficulty wasn't lost on me after calling everyone imbeciles and idiots. Made me laugh. Seriously tho, you might want to go back and watch the beginning establishing shot of Asgard again. If you were familiar with Asgard from Norse mythology OR the comics you'd be amazed. The way they incorporated Bifrost, the rainbow bridge without making it look like something out of a Rainbow Brite cartoons was genius. Now, will the "movie" be considered anything Oscar worthy? I seriously doubt it, but on the sole merit of being a good comic-to-movie adaptation, I think we have a movie here on par with, or better than The Incredible Hulk, which I felt was solid, if flawed. I think Thor will be solid, if a bit flawed. I can live with that.
-
...I'm so tired....
-
The reason I mentioned Superman 2...is, Thor needs a stunning big action sequence like that (again, the aerial battle in Superman 2) and perhaps they have it, but they haven't shown us the money shot(s) yet? That sequence in Superman 2, is just about the only thing that they almost got right in that whole entire movie. What Thor has going for it, over Superman 2, however, is proper tone. Judging by the trailer, the tone of the acting in Thor, as well as the direction, and the dialogue, feel right.

aaahhhh the cliche spelling police tactic...
by that_girl_from_the_lowes_commercials_gar
nice bootskin. Although spelling one word incorrectly out of probably well over a thousand here, isn't really too bad is it? And you do know, that calling out a spelling mistake is, debating terms, a logical fallacy, right? As if the spelling mistake voids any argument i could possibly have. You know that's stupid right? Do i need to go back and skim your previous posts for grammatical and spelling errors, boss? Back to the trailer...
-
..if you're calling others out on their "obvious" stupidity. Just making a point, no need to get your gigantic head all twisted up about it. :-)
-
I forgot to address the first sentence in your post above... Yes, i did admit that i may have come off a little harsh. But again, that doesn't take away from WHAT I WAS SAYING. I said i could've handled been a little more mature about it... but that's really besides the point. But i will try to tone it down, and channel that passion towards something more positive. Point taken.

Well this times the world is full of Douches, almost everyone has become a fucking xpert movie critic, that says that only fucking artsy films are cool, well FUCK YOU. Come on this looks soo EPIC, Devastator looks amazing, Antony Hopkins is amazing, every fucking bit is AMAZING!!!
-
Where are you hiding.
-
Frankly, if you hated this trailer, I can't believe you are "into" Thor in the first place. There is an inherent over the top hokiness to the whole idea of incorporating Thor into the Marvel Universe to begin with - but that is part of the fun. If you don't care for that, fine - but if you DO, if you are at all into the Thor character, backstory, "world", then explain to me what complaints you can possibly have with what we saw - what complaints that couldnt also be leveled at the THOR comic book stories?
-
I'm reading my last couple of posts, and i really should hit the sack. "I said i could've handled been a little more mature about it". I'm tired man, gimme a break lol. And technically, spelling isn't necessarily a sign of intelligence. There are plenty of people who can't spell worth a damn, that are actually pretty fuckin' brilliant. But that's kind of besides the point... And yes, it is in fact, a logical fallacy. But back to the topic on hand...
-
Like I said, very Jack Kirby. As a non-fan, maybe I know more than YOU do about the subject. And as for seeing more movies than me? Doubtful. As for the cliched plot elements, maybe, but reference something YOU like that's wholly original and I'll point out how utterly wrong you are.If you knew anything, A.) you would know that there ARE no reasons for the difference of opinion, we just have differing ones and B.) You should read the name of the person you're referencing so you can spell it correctly.

by that_girl_from_the_lowes_commercials_gar
the fact that you weren't disagreeing with my "opinion". You came after ME. And again, i do accept some fault here for my tone in the beginning... there was some slight "douchery" from my end, as well as some of the "defenders" who came and attacked me. But i do stand firm in my convictions about "opinion" not being as subjective as some people would like to believe. And i'm not the only one that realizes this. If you really want to debate it, i would be more than happy. It comes down to the fact that an "opinion" is formed due to several factors or variables, such as: intelligence, experience, objectivity, rational thought, etc... and there is no arguing it, really. For some reason, people have the misguided perception that EVERYTHING is subjective, and EVERYONE's opinions are as valid as anybody elses... which is complete BULLSHIT lol. From personal experience, this attitude is held by the people with said poor taste... We can really get in to this discussion, but it might be better to do it at another time ;-)
-
can claim erudition, sophistication, impeccable taste, and high standards, and still be a damn troll.

In the comics, Thor can take on Celestials and go toe to toe with the savage Hulk. Here we see him brawling with S.H.I.E.L.D. agents. *sigh*

This is Vikings right? What is with the black guy and Asian man randomly inserted in something Norway/Swedish aka White Country?
Also, why does this look like a film from the 90's quality wise?
Also, this source sucks. It always has. Besides, the hate is that sometimes you don't want an exact translation of the comic, especially if the source is fucking ridiculous. They should have did a Burton/Nolan and tried to IMPROVE the source that has not been updated sine the 60's. -
You're a pretentious, condescending douchebag who's not as intelligent or worldly as he thinks. You're right about one thing though; opinions are not always equal. Subjectively, yours means nothing to me. Have a good night/morning, sir.

im thinking that the black actor is playing skurge the executioner...but its not up on imdb, so i could be wrong
-
Of course that's coming from someone who really really liked "Kick-Ass". So maybe my opinion doesn't mean shit to you. Either way - I am STOKED for this one. Looks way better that I thought it would.
-
To me, questioning this is the mark of a small minded person. In any given story, the race of a character should only matter if it's a defining element of the character. For example, should Beyonce play Anne Frank? Probably not. No more than Zac Efron playing Kunta Kinte in a Roots remake.
The "Black guy" as it was so ignorantly put, is Heimdall, guardian of the Bridge to Asgard. He is being played by Idris Elba from The Wire, who happens to be one of the best actors out there right now. I don't know anything about the asian actor, but he's playing Hogun, one of the Warriors Three and an ally to Thor who always had Asian characteristics in the comics. If the race of the actor is going to take you out of the experience of the movie, don't go. You have other problems to deal with. -
Was expecting much better. Oh well. I guess I should still go back and ready Walt Simonsons's run if I want to get excited about Thor again.
-
"you would know that there ARE no reasons for the difference of opinion, we just have differing ones" LMAO really? You truly believe this? Man... you got some waking up to do. I'm really going to take it upon myself to "enlighten" some folks here about REALITY. Quick exmple before i go: Person A votes Bush. Person B votes Gore. (and i'm not into fucking politics, so i'm not trying to stir some bullshit political debate... it's just an exmple, so don't take it personally) You say Person A and Person B have equal, valid opinions, just inherently, correct? Well this is why i disagree... Person A says "I voted for Bush, 'cause i like his accent. He's from Texas, just like me! In my opinion, Bush would be an excellent president." That's it. That's the extent of his rationale... Now, Person B: "I voted for Gore. After performing extensive research on the 2 candidates, and watching each and every one of their debates/speeches that they have given... After carefully considering their philosphies, backgrounds, education, and observing the way they speak and act... after gaining as much knowledge about the 2 candates, and assessing the pros and cons of each one... i have come to a decision that Gore would be better suited as President of the United States". So, are you going to tell me that Person A and Person B have EQUALLY VALID OPINIONS or POSITIONS on this issue? Absolutely fucking not. Peron A did ZERO research, went with gut reaction or bias, and didn't carefully examine or investigate anything about the 2 candidates, thus making a decision based almost entirely on ignorance. On the other hand, person B did all of that. No bias used... no decision based on ignorance, or anything of that sort. Researched, analyzed, used objectivity, etc... And again the point isn't that Person B chose Gore, and is therefore correct. It is how they ARRIVE at the conclusion that makes their "opinion" more valid. The more thought that you put into it... The more PERSONAL BIAS you take out of it... the more clear and objective you can be. This also relates to film (or music/art, etc.) I respect opinions that are based on something REAL. Not simple "This looks gay." Or "that looks AWESOME!". Neither of those opinons are valid. It's how you back it up. It's examining WHY you came to that conclusion. This isn't simple "i like coke better than pepsi." Of course that's just a simple opinion. There is nothing deeper to it! It's simply based on chemical reactions, taste buds, all that meaningless, arbitrary stuff. It needs no defense. However, certain things, such as ART (all forms of it) CAN be debated. Opinions can be formulated based on intelligence, experience, and objectivity... And obviously, certain things are just beyond defense or debate. No rational reason behind liking or disliking something. And that's where i come in. I never have a simplistic response to something. I can always DEFEND what i like or dislike. I use quantitative things, real tangible things to judge or measure, such as: Acting, cinematography, Production Design, visual effects, writing, dialogue, editing, pacing, etc... I don't add personal bias or empty/vague reactions. I don't let how i was feeling at the time i watched a film influence my opinion of it. I judge it for WHAT IT IS. As an ART FORM. That's all i ask. And if you can't back it up, then you clearly don't have any real defense for it, thus rendering your "opinion" invalid, get it? You're like Person A in the example above. Shit, maybe i'm just to fucking logical and objective/analytical for this world... but i really wish everybody would kind of train their minds towards that philosophy. If we did, we wouldn't accept shit like THOR ;-)
-
Smart filmmakers can, and do, cast roles in films...that have a domestic, as well as international face, in terms of box office--and in reaching as wide demographic, as possible. You do that, and your box office goes up greatly, as all people like to see characters that look like them...in film (we all need heroes). When you ignore them, others that don't look like you, well, they, in return, often don't spend their money with you, and if they do spend money with you, it is only a bare minimum of it, rather than a great (enthusiastic) sum--and that ultimately negatively affects, the bottomline. Inception will do over 200 million in North America, and double that number worldwide, however, I would argue, if they had cast minorities in some of the central roles, their box office numbers would be double what they are now, or even bigger. Racism can cost you. The only color that matters, when it comes to good business...should always be green, as in the color of money.
-
wow...didnt recognize himgood casting

Final thought... for real this time ;-)
by that_girl_from_the_lowes_commercials_gar
I'm out now. But i just wanted to "prove a point". I ain't a fuckin' cowardly "hit and run" troll. I have a tangible defense for my thoughts/feelings/attitudes, so don't even try to accuse me of that. Call me an asshole for being to "judgemental" or whatever, but you cannot knock my taste, or my knowledge, or my passion and love for film. If everyone on this damn website shared these same qualities as i do, we would all be MUCH better off... Peace out everybody.
-
merely discussing an interesting casting choice. I confess, I was confusing "norwegian" with "asgardian". I don't watch much tv, but idris elba's name rings a bell. hogun is played by Tadanobu Isano, who was in Mongol a few years back. does great work in Japan, surprised to see him in this.
-
Nothing exciting.
-
Exquisite taste and superior intelligence are mutually exclusive. I know plenty of smart people with really fuckin' shitty taste in movies/books/music...by my standards. Opinions are subjective as hell, and because of the mutually exclusive state of the previously mentioned, always fuckin' will be. Sure there are standards in all forms of entertainment, that others should strive to live up to. At the end of the day, you can love Kurosawa, Kubrick & Capra, but it's still okay to dig a Bay flick if you like it. Opinions don't validate shit.
You have expected us to take it at face value that you're intelligent. You have an opinion and that's all I've seen demonstrated so far. What're your credintials? Film student? Film maker? Film critic? What kind of different approach would you have taken for this movie and why? Maybe you could educate all of us morons from your extensive knowledge.
Look, I thought the trailer was entertaining, period. I don't need my opinion validated, you're not gonna change it anyway. I've been called out before for having shitty taste in movies, it doesn't effect me at all. But, before you enter a talkback guns-a-blazin', spewing your vitriol at anyone with an opposing opinion of yours, use your brain and excersice a little self restraint. Intelligent adults debate and share ideas without name calling. -
Sadly You are correct. I was mostly responding to Sidepocket, though. You bring up an interesting point about the political, marketing aspects of casting. I wish more filmmakers concerned themselves with non-white audiences more, if for no other reason than a little more financial gain.
That_Girl, I just kind of skimmed over that longwinded post of yours, but I can tell you missed the point. Therefore, this'll be my last acknowledgement of anything you say. Go improve your social skills and maybe I'll talk to you again. If not, meh. -

So the gods live in a big house in a big CG city, but once Thor crash lands on Earth, judging by this, it all looks pretty small beer from there on. Are we going to see a story worthy of the gods, or just the usual de rigueur explosions, the usual Alphabet agency bad guys, and Thor tearing through a piece of plastic sheeting? With so many gods to choose from, will we see something that feels even somewhat biblical in scope, or will it just be a fight that happens in one place and that doesn't mean anything to the rest of the planet? Hell, even 2012 felt big most of the time, and that sure wasn't Ben Hur. If the gods are going to rumble, it's reasonable to expect a pretty big rumble, much bigger than Clash fo the Titans, for example. And if we get plenty of CG, let's hope it looks like something real, in real light.
-
Yup. Figures... nothing to retort :-) That's ok. I hope you did read, and let it all sink in... It's an important distinction to make. It goes further than simply discussing film. It's about philosophy, life in general. But if you just simply want to categorize me as "another damn troll with nothing to say..." so be it. But i will take this non-response of yours, as i sign that you cannot retort anything i just said... Nice chattin' ;-)
-
Was the best part in my opinion and it looked very similar to the introduction of the Mark 1 scene in Iron Man. I'm guessing that was intentional.
-
Gotta say, this ROCKED but Mjölnir looked like a plastic toy when Thor was holding it up or swinging it around. It should have looked MUCH heavier and rock solid. Wouldn't have hurt to have them add some weight to it for the few scenes he holds it up. But I disagree with the general haters. This looks pretty fucking terrific. Especially the last minute and ALL Hopkins' scenes.
-
I can appreciate what you are trying to say in your last 2 posts, but I disagree with some of your points, at least in principle. applying absolutisms like always and never to opinions doesn't work, and not everything can be valued using empirical measurement. sometimes, even with art, you just have to go with your gut. Also, you seem to suggest that the person who is better able to articulate the reasoning behind their opinion/decision/"taste" has a higher value applied to that opinion. I can see where the better explained position is easier to engage in meaningful discussion, i don't think that the other opinion bears less merit.

I woke up to walk my dog, couldn't get back to sleep, and here you are STILL bitching up a storm about something you really don't care about in the first place. Thank you VERY MUCH for actually LISTENING to what i was trying to say there lol. I absolutely appreciate your response. You are someone i could definitely engage in a debate with... It sounds like we may have slightly different philosophies on this subject but it would be worth discussing it in greater detail. I like this point you bring up. You put it very concisely: "Also, you seem to suggest that the person who is better able to articulate the reasoning behind their opinion/decision/"taste" has a higher value applied to that opinion." That's exactly what i believe. It MUST have more merit, inherently, from a certain perspective... but you do make some valid points. It's definitely worth pondering...

back on topic now. I honestly cannot believe that Branagh's name is attached to this. It would be comparable to watching the Underworld: Rise of the Lycans trailer and seeing, at the end of the trailer: "Directed by Francis Ford Coppola"... What the fuck?

-
I'm a 40 year-old artist and author, educated in London, doing what I love for a living - (and that's writing novels and creating art, not flipping burgers!)
But I must admit I'm a thick fuck. I love these superhero movies. The louder and more colourful the better. This Thor trailer - exciting, looks like a lot of fun. Fantastic 4 - brill. Iron Man - brill. POTC - all of em brill. (While not a comic book movie, I know). But you know what? I'm glad I'm so obviously stupid that I get off on these movies. Because I lived through the 1970s with the SFX-light Hulk, Wonder Woman, Batman, Spider-Man, Street Hawk, Automan and countless other hero shows that weren't great, and finally we're seeing big budget hero movies done the rway we all hoped they'd be done. SO a visit to the cinema for me is total fucking bliss. I do however, shed a tear for those perennial haters who aren't impressed with anything. Your cinema time and money is totally wasted if all it does is piss you off. I'm happy to be 'wrong' in your eyes. Now shut up and pass me the popcorn, Avengers is about to start. -

Jesus, this looks AWFUL! Too bad Zack Snyder didn't do this one. THAT would actually be a slightly less idiotic statement than the one you made.

don't even get me fucking started on Predators... lol
-
Aologistic is not a word in the english language. Please don't murder my language and I will continue to refer to aluminium as aluminum when stateside. Ta very much. Also, while I'm here, Fag is a rather grubby way of insulting people. It's derogatory to homosexuals and makes you sound silly.
-
would have made the whole thing in slow motion, with little framerate jumps scattered here and there, and almost no dialogue.

Nobody bring up the Star Wars Prequels, LOST (Season 6 or the Finale, more specifically), or Predators. If you do, we're gonna be in for a looooooooong night ;-)

when you're on the "aluminum" side of the Atlantic. UK-side, a fag is a cigarette. A faggot? Yeah, that might be a homosexual. Or it might just be a bundle of sticks for burning in the fire.Tom Staid : "Now, where I'm from, you can't SAY faggot, let alone burn a bag full of them. If someone said to me 'I've got a bag full of faggots', I'd say 'You've changed Gary.'"

The people defending this are funny...
by that_girl_from_the_lowes_commercials_gar
They're just name-dropping. Like a Where's Waldo kinda thing. Like pointing out things that they recognize from the comic without even judging the quality or execution of it... They just go "Hey that was awesome yo! I think i saw fuckin Loki in there and shit! Sweeeeeeet." That's the best they can come up with. That's like people watching a star wars trailer, going "Oh shit, there's Yoda! With a fucking LIGHTSABER!! And a WOOKIE too!!!" *splooges*
-
I think we all know what he meant when he refered to someone as a fag.
-
I haven't been a fan of the photos we'd seen so far (they looked a little Fantastic 4 to me) but that trailer was a complete double rainbow all the way across the sky. My interest in seeing this just trippled
-
such are his Predators!
-
"There is no species of creature worse than the know-it-all-poster" Actually, yes there is. The ignorant poster who possess awful taste in film. Like yourself. Thanks :-)
-
My, how awful, Thors fans getting excited to see the characters they know and love in a live action movie. How bloody dare they. There's no hope for them that's for sure.
-
I do apologize for the "fag" remark. Didn't mean to offend anyone. I get a little loose with my language sometimes, but i absolutely didn't mean it in a hurtful or homophobic way. I got no issues like that man. Won't happen again :-)
-
I am someone who is not well-versed in the Thor comic mythology. From that perspective, this looks like an entertaining movie *** in my opinion.
I've read a few comics as a kid way back when, and know him from the (ultimate) animated Marvel movies my kids like. But I'm a geek, and this looks like geek fare.
How would those of you who are shitting on this improve upon it? -
Can you explain to me what it is about Rodriguez that makes him a "faggot"? and why it is you feel it's ok to call him that?
-
Not if they're using that as the sole reason for their "excitement" in the film, or the defense of the quality of the trailer. Seems pretty biased and simplistic to me... I didn't watch the first spiderman trailer and jizz my drawers at the fact that The Green Goblin was on screen lol

-
This is gonna be fucking awesome.

and again, you prove my point. The only thing that is getting you excited about it is based on your own biased nostalgia... your sentimentality. Nothing objective, or anything that's specific about the trailer, in terms of the quality of film-making that is on display...

Just read your "cool" remark. Disregard my last post to you lol

He hurt my feelings with PREDATORS, that's why I am inpolite, and I am always like that when I feel powerless. Powerless about the shit he produced and had me fooled with all the promises in his interview here at AICN that Predators is what we were waiting after AVP. And he delivered crap that hurt me cause IT DISSAPOINTED ME to each and every cell in my body. That's why I would unleash homosexual brutal rape upon him, record it and then released it theatricaly saying that's the sequel to Predator HE WAS WAITING FOR! in 3D! and ofcourse converted!

WHY IS IT ALL COMIC GEEKS THINK OF IS "MANLY MUSCLES"?!!!

Nice simplistic response from you. How we would sorely miss your brilliant insight in discussing this trailer! Your ignorant take on this whole debate is simply astounding! "Why discuss what you don't like?" Wow genius, maybe i'll take that into consideration next time. Why debate or discuss something your passionately opposed to! BRILLIANT! But seriously, what inane statement. And yes, i'm not too into THOR... However, i am a lover of FILM, and i do have an iffinity to comic books, and comic-based films, so therefore... I chose to post on this talkback! Crazy, ain't it??
-
will crush you like a bug. Infowars? How pathetic. You really must be smoking ice, son. Not even the people that write that shit actually believe it, they just use it to hook imbeciles like yourself. Mission accomplished.
-
Yep, Saw that at Darkhorizons too. Do you think he will make SKVP? Spy Kids could catch them and had Predators trained and then raid them.
-
Ugh that looks horrendous. Terrible dialogue, and Chris Hemsworth seems to have absolutely no charisma whatsoever. I will probably be avoiding this one.
-
Wow, nice job dumbass! Actually, you're wrong on each and every one of your claims there bud! The closest thing that i'll concede is that i'm generally pre-disposed to being more of an "introvert" than "extrovert", but i wouldn't say that i have "social anxiety". But nice try ;-) Completely off on every other baseless assertion you made. And by the way, go fuck yourself. You don't know me... clearly, based on your off-base perception of me. So don't fucking categorize me as some wanky troll... "people like you" lol You fuckin' crack me up man.
-
he doesn't promises anything intelectual. He just blows shit up and now he got 3D to terrorize my brain with it. And I am into it. No lies, no promises, no fake stories about attempting to reach some level of somehting in his new movie. He just destroys everything on screen and does it the way he likes it. My kind of men.
-
Thor looks like a gay TV movie. The CG looks fucking bargain basement. This whole thing looks shit and homosexual. No wonder Thor is only popular with gay men.
-
I just read your response again and i had to add something. You speak as if i make a habit of this every night or something. lol I can safely say that this is the first "issue" i've had on here. The few talkbacks i've posted in were very well received. (and i rarely post anyway...) Good debates... but there's always a few dumbfucks like yourself that get their panties twisted in a wad, and freak out when someone gets the least bit assertive. Grow some thicker skin you puss, and debate like a grown man. If i get my buttons pushed, then i may lash back... but i don't generally "instigate" shit. Get your facts straight, before you attack someone, you coward.
-
Because people like, in this case, That_Girl and SCARLETT just run roughshod over them, piling up dozens of posts of personal garbage, taking screens' worth of space for petty squabbling and one-on-one arguing with others. We don't care about your rants, aren't impressed with your self-defense. Quit cluttering the place up - it's almost not worth talking back anymore if 250 of the 350 comments on stories are just mindless, antagonistic gibberish. Say your peace about the story and move on. Please. Posting dozens of offhand, one-line observations doesn't make you important. It just makes you an ass.

Actually, it looks alright. It's a comio book movie, what do you want? I've never read a Thor comic in my life and don't really know much about the character but hopefully it'll end up being a fun movie and I might as well give it a chance. Why not?

THAT is a troll. See the difference between him and I? He starts spouting off about his fucking worthless political stances and whatnot. Without making any attempt whatsoever at discussing the trailer. Fuckin' goober... Please shoot me if i ever evolve into someone like that lol
-
Nostalgia? Sentimentality? I did write my post in english, yes? Any interest I have in this film came directly from the footage I just saw. The fact that I am famliar with a character doesn't mean I'd see this no matter what. I could smell the shit of the Fantastic 4 films a mile off and didn't reward those films with my dollars.
You keep bitchin about how folks are generalizing about you and them repeatedly generalize about others. That makes you a hypocrite and a douche.

Exactly what i'm talking about. Numerous people expressing their dissapointment in the look of this film. Valid points. Valid criticisms. I'm simply being more assertive about my stance. Sorry for being so imposing... That, coupled with me being attacked personally got me a little defensive. That's why this talkback has escalated to the degree that it has. Didn't intend on this at all lol
-
(And I specify *footage*, because some people here seem to think that it's a "trailer", which it isn't.)I like it, with some mixed feelings overall. On one hand, a big sigh of relief that so much looks right and that so many iconic bits are included. On the other, I still found myself wanting a little more, as though things were just a tad empty (and the SHIELD stuff looks like treading water). But that may just be due to the shots shown here being so short - nothing's shown long enough to really follow any individual moment. The *look* of things is very good, balancing the real and fantasy in a nice way. Asgardians look good, Destroyer looks fantastic. Hammer looks...exactly like Thor's hammer. What do you know, for once they actually *respect* something iconic about the character! Makes Joe Johnston look even more timid for backing away from Cap's wings.Still can't quite believe we're actually seeing a Thor film. It's crazily audacious.
-
is alright. Doesn't seem like a troll to me.
As for Thor - I can't judge the trailer properly as I'm watching it at work, with the sound down. Seems a little bit formulaic, but in Brannagh I trust. -
You call folks who disagree with you retarded and then act "shocked" at the negative response to your douchy posts?

by vic twenty
Their increased presence is meant to build toward the Avengers film. You could say they are also the audience's way to delve deeper into the "super" characters, but that is what the supporting cast (in this case Portman) should be doing.
-
I don't know why they bothered making it five minutes long. Surely, considering the demographic they're aiming for, they should've just shown that bit where Thor is shirtless? That would've been enough for you guys, wouldn't it?
-
Why don't you just take a step back and take a break, have a nap you'll wake up and realise that you may have been a tad over-reactionary I respect that you have reservations against this footage...maybe you should go watch Iron Man then read some Thor online maybe then you will see what kind of art form they are aiming for.

Nice to see some sane people here. I can't believe how many people in this TB have gotten so defensive over my previous statements. Some people are really overreacting...
-
Holy fucking Christ. General ZOD was the best thing about that series. He was the only one who could pose a real challenge to Superman. The rest of the movies played out like a Superman highlight-film instead of a nail bitting superhero epic.
-
I AM speaking in a calm, coherent manner. I'm one of the few people on here actually DISCUSSING the fucking topic at hand! lol Have you read any of my posts lately? If you would actually drop the preconceptions about me, lower your defenses, and really actually READ and COMPREHEND what i'm saying... you may come to a different conclusion about me. K?
-
Parts of that trailer look pretty awesome visually but in terms of story the trailer lays out a pretty standard low excitement flick.
Thor cast out of Asgard, can't pick up hammer as he isn't worthy, proves himself by helping humans when Destroyer arrives, gets hammer back and defeats destroyer then heads back to Asgard and kicks Loki's ass(who it is probably revealed played a hand in getting you cast out in the first place). Possibly a background story on Asgard about some battle between gods he resolves as well.
It's the great weakness of having origin story after origin story. The formula is so boring. -
...due to infringement.
Nice job, AICN.
Methinks the Son of Odyn shall now venture elsewhere to woo a faire maidyn with his rightyous hammyr. -
hes your general AICN misguided idiot.
-
It's too bad we are so quick to judge a film by it's trailer. But to each his own I guess.
-
But that dosnt change the fact that your the one who is now being passive aggresive...just out of curiosity what is your main gripe with the "footage"
-
You're so fucking over-simplifying what i've been saying that it's not even funny. Really? i was just calling people retards the whole time, because they disagreed with me? Nothing deeper than that? Fuck... you really need to brush up on your reading comprehension skills mate.
-
The fucking Ban Hammer.I don't think Brannagh is capable of directing a movie that doesn't look good and is at least decently entertaining. Even an overstuffed mediocrity like Frankenstein was watchable and fun in parts. I like that Hopkins is using a bit of an accent (other than Welsh) and that Asgard looks exactly like a cross between magic and science, vikings and flash gordon. I could have done without the strenuous links between the Iron Man movies. Just had to mention Stark, so idiots in the theatre would know it's part of "those movies." I personally would like to see a bit more Shakespearean intrigue, which we know Ken does well, but otherwise this is a pretty good trailer.
-
...thank the gods, as it was sore to behold. I much preferred the audio only version, as it hid the fact that the costumes still look like misdesigned ass!Should have had an epic score to accompany it rather than the hokey, generic rock thing.Still, my 8-year old will love it.

The nice thing about this antiquated talkback system is that one can't go back and edit posts. You seem like a fine, calm lad now, but your goofy act from earlier is on display for all to see if they choose to scroll upward.
For a fella dropping f-bombs on those who disagreed with him, you probably shouldn't criticize others for having thin skin. -
i absolutely agree with you on one thing. I need some fucking sleep! lol I probably will wake up tomorrow and go "Gee, i probably could have started that off a little better...", but hey, what's done is done. But i would love to continue debating. You at least sound like someone who is fairly rational and whatnot, so i'll try to be back tomorrow night. And what was my gripe you ask? Here's what i posted earlier, waaaaaay back in the beginning... I can expound upon it more next time, but this was the jist: "EVERYTHING is off about this.
Like a lion?? lol What the fuck was that all about?" Later all...
-
I would have preffered this movie without links to previous marvel movies and for it to be a bit more akin to the style of Ang Lee's Hulk. Brannagh does have a great style of directing and his work with actors is amazing I do have faith that he has made this into something more than a summer blockbuster..but marvel has to market exactly as a summer movie for fear of frightening those who were turned off by HULK 2003
-
That_Girl isn't a troll, it's someone who's offering a different perspective on the subject at hand, albeit one that is infuriating people..that's cool tho, right?
The OTHER assclown is a sad and lonely cretin that has been duped by people who know better into working against his/her own self interest in the political and economic arena. It goes beyond a legit conservative politcal POV into racist xenaphobic claptrap. If life were a comic book movie that dipshit would be burnt to a cinder in the third reel. THOR's going to be pretty cool, anyway. -

-
1) The music: I agree that a more classical/theatrical approach would have suited a film like this however as has always been the case hollywood will always aim for a more marketable approach.
2) On your knees yelling shot yeah its been done.
3)We havnt seen much of the performance by Chris hemsworth but from the little I saw of him inSTAR TREK in the pre title sequence he gave a good performance.
4)Nat Port has always been a one note actress but then having a one note actress didnt ruin Spider-Man (yes Dunst i'm looking at you)
5)I like the costumes they look like a practicle adaptation of the comics art work but this is clearly from a fans perspective.
-
i cant see it

Gosh, what a clever name you have. I'll bet your rapier wit, sardonic humor and beyond-hip outsider cred are the envy of all the guys down at the comic shop.
-
So does this mean that Thor has an Asgard babe and then a Midgard babe? BTW why to they have to dumb down the dialogue all the time. Thor WOULD say "this is midgard" but the movie Thor has to say "earth". Doesn't it heighten the mystery if the audience doesn't quite understand every term? I know you're reading this Kenneth.

Til' this day, I'm still mystified by the whole patter and motives of trolls and people who purposely go against the grain just to annoy people, all while in the comfort of their homes. But I always asked myself do many of them have the cojones to do this same type of B.S. in person?
It's as if I'm watching an ep of CRIMINAL MINDS: "Our unsub is apparently someone who blends in at work, probably very good at their job but gets no recognition. Probably even passed up for promotion. At home on the computer, he or she feels the most powerful and manifests it through antagonizing other via forums. Anomynity gives the confidence to say or insult who or what they feel. The next day, they go back to the same average routine daily. For some time, they were content with this...."
Let's face it, we walk pass these type of people everyday and nothing comes out there mouth, I guess every star needs time to shine...at the annoyance of others -

That Girl claims to not be a troll and yet the first words from him/her were an attack by saying that Claybog592, "fails at life".
Then when he/she notices that some appear to like it, he/she lashes out and says they, " ... are simply blinded by their own nostalgia." Yes, That Girl wants people to respect his/her opinion, but doesn't have the proclivity to
return the favor.
Later he/she admits that he/she was never into Thor Comics. I, for one, believe this immediately negates some of his/her arguments - for example he/she says the Destroyer reminds her of Gort from the remake of "The Day the
Earth Stood Still", when in reality, it looks amazingly like the Destroyer from the Comic Book. Had he/she been familiar with the material, this would
have been avoided.
Dark Equalizer asks him/her to calm down a little and this is when he/she goes on a rampage. Telling people who may disagree to F*** Off and that they have no taste, as if he/she is the only one allowed to have an opinion.
He/she claims that no one gives a reason for liking the footage, yet I read several reasons.
He/she also says, he/she questions, "... the taste of ANYBODY that finds this
trailer impressive." Just how does that statement show any "real, tangible explanation for" his/her opinion?
He/she obviously wants the attention. Usually when someone says they're "out of here", they leave. That Girl said he/she was out of "here" at 05:05:30 AM only to return at 05:23:31 AM. Must have a hard time sleeping.
However, the worst offense is using the "Fag" word as a derogatory comment. There is never ANY excuse for that kind of hate speech, no matter the intent. -

Yeah, the original classic, one of the greatest action films ever, and Roger Ebert, at the height of his critical powers, could only muster 2.5 stars for it. So even those with pretty damned good taste in cinema aren't infallible. Like/love/hate this trailer - until Ebert, Travers, or the Ghost of Gene Siskel posts here, everyone's opinion is pretty much equal. I'm a die-hard Marvel-head with a degree in English Lit (so whoopee, I knows me some criticismy stuff) but is my opinion any more/less valid than anyone else's? Nah. I found the trailer to be... OK. It piqued my interest: I'm wondering why Thor is banished, why can't he lift his hammer (how did it get here on Earth, anyway?), how will he go from unable to lift it to becoming full-fledged THOR again here on Earth, is Odin really "dead" - how does Loki pull that off? What is the Destroyer's true purpose...? Not everything is shown, but what is shown looks decent. The scope is impressive (Asgard looks perfect), as are the costumes, and I actually liked most of the overblown crap spewing from Hopkins - how else would ODIN speak?!? Yeah, a lot of the shots are from the Generic School of Action Cinema, but as Ebert wrote in his Titanic review, movie-makers don't need to reinvent the wheel at every opportunity to make an effective film. The reason these shots are used ad nauseum is because they work! I'm not convinced about this film either way yet, but I'll be there next May and THEN I'll render a verdict...
-
I would pay just for that.

Why the fuck does anyone care what Ebert, thinks
by hey_kobe_tell_me_how_my_ass_tastes
Make up your own fucking mind! Damn some of you geeks piss me the fuck off sometimes. "Ebert thinks this" "Ebert thinks that" "Ebert says..." Fuck, that! Ebert is a man with an opinion. If it is different than yours do you change your mind because Ebert said it? Fuck, grow some fucking balls! Rant over - until the next lemming says "Ebert thinks..."

SHIT TRAILER WITH SHIT ACTORS WORSE THAN IRON MAN2!!!!!!!
by dioxholsterreturns
WHO BARFED THIS MOVIE?
-
he matters
-
he said he feels bad for giving the original stargate movie 1 star.
-
see the trailer. Looks pretty good, much better than I was expecting to ber honest. Could actually be cool...
-
Not only did I get an infringement notice instead of the video, I got an earful from some ad about would I like to make money online.
-
I got no roast beef with Roger Ebert, I have found some of his reviews enlightening and some trash. But when geeks just invoke his name as if that ends all discussion - fuck that! He is a man with an opinion. he can provide great background on movie history but make up your own damn mind about a movie - same goes with geeks who use RT ratings or box office as if it is the be all end all.
-
definitely looks the part.
-
If you don't like this trailer - let me know and I will come over and hit you with a tack hammer because you are a retard.
-
...but I did see a bunch of stills. Looks better than I thought, still wish they'd put in more Nordic imagery, VAlhalla looks a little too much like Cloud City, but what the hell, it's way more Kirbyesque than anything else H/wood's ever done with a comic-based property. And The Destroyer looks just like... The Destroyer... that's pretty cool, right there. But who is the green, scaly lizard guy?
-
http://spinoff.comicbookresources.com/2010/07/29/thor-comic-con-trailer-leaks/
-
I think we're on the same page. I was invoking Ebert to prove that his OPINION is sometimes as head-scratchingly indefensible as anyone else's (responding to some people on here saying "the trailer is shit - PERIOD" and being unable to see that, no matter how valid their points might seem, it's still just an opinion).
-
movie wasn't. So if the trailer underwhelms you or if you hate it the creative team still has time to get things corrected.
-
face it fuckers, this is pure crap
-
somebody needs to post a working link up there. I want to see the trailer again. Marvel Execs need to wake the hell up! The footage looked polished and played like a trailer despite it's 5 minute length. Bust it out officially already! WE WANT THOR!
-
The Asgard stuff looked a bit cheesy. But I'm hoping that it won't be as cheesy in the context of the whole film. Either way, I'm very anxious to see more.

Man. I wanted to read this talkback and gauge reactions but wow. It is just one guy screaming at the top of his lungs over and over and over again. He supposedly brought up valid points by stomping his feet and saying Vin Diesel repeatedly? Suck this dick!
Everything about this looked great. The costume are just like Kirby's designs and even shine like he drew them! Asgard had the rainbow walkway and the supporting characters looked great. The whole cast down to Earth is a shortened movie take on several Thor incarnation's where he inhabited Human bodies etc etc. Have absolutely no problem with that. I love how Loki as that doe eyed evil going on. Just looks brilliant! -

-
Wait is it pulled already??
-
Very impressed by the footage. Can't wait.As a side note, studios, what the fucking fuck are you doing removing this really fantastic sizzle piece from the eyes of people on the fence. I know there are some people at work in Hollywood whose sole purpose is to 'control the message' but those people are generally useless assholes who can't do, so they manage.
-
Fucking hell I was expecting better from Branagh. You know this place is full of robotic dorks when they praise the hell out of this shit. Did anybody at least laugh when they saw all those guys in the 5 dollar halloween costumes walking the streets at daytime? This reminds me of a special episode of Power Rangers with Anthony Hopkins more than anything else. Oh and how about that scream in the air....wow.
-
It might be DioxholsterReturns. If it's not, it's like they're playing tag team. But I get the same sense of desperation for attention from them both. On the other hand, Lowel_Girl had an 8 hour online tantrum. Let's see how long DioxholsterReturns lasts.
-
Mmmmmmmmm Kobe Thai!
I don't know if anyone's mentioned this yet, but I love it when Thor throws the hammer, and it flies forward without spinning, just like in the comics, also that jump he does at the end hammer raised is very Thor like. -
I hope the Power Rangers robot fucking kills him once and for all in this film. Ughh...Marvel Studios deserves a painful death. I hope with all my heart that Avengers flops. I know it's conceited to actually wish for failure, but that's exactly what Marvel studios needs.

its 2010 and we still have gay superheroes running around in gay costumes. gay
-
....apparently shut up because Kenneth Branagh just personally Paypal'd him $10 to go see the movie.
-
as long as he's in these movies they will never be anything more than fanservice. he's not a credible actor outside of one role everytime he shows his face I get pulled wayy the hell out of if...see star wars.
-
Oh well, in just a few hours I get to meet Roger Corman. Life is good.
-
After watching it, I wonder... was that music from the first Iron Man movie? It seemed like it might be. Which would be okay with me since I would prefer that music not be used in the Thor movie.
-
I'd much rather see him tie these films together then sam Jackson - He always bugs me because he can't sink into a role, so when he shows up it's just like, oh there's sam jackson waering an eyepatch, i guess he wanted to be a pirate when he woke up this morning
-
that had 'Thor' in it. Man, times have changed since then, this looks like Citizen Kane by comparison.
-
gays the ultimate insult. not to you know as you love the cock
-
I quite enjoyed the trailer up to the end part, when big CGI character appears and bellows CGI flames at Agent Coulson and his cronies.
CG-why. *sigh* -
The Destroyer armor was amazing and I am looking forward to that fight with Thor. The rest of it looks like what I imagine a Thor film to be. Thor pisses off Odin, goes to Earth, Loki takes over, Thor's friends get him back, big fight and roll credits. It will make $300 million and pave the way for Avengers. Guy looks like Thor, Loki I am not so sure about and Hopkins is perfect for Odin.
-
the Goddess played by Jaimie Alexander is (in both Norse mythology and the comics) Heimdalls sister. That's endemic of virtually everything I've seen so far. It's all a little too jump to the left of either the mythology or the comics. We don't need the plucky little sister. Heimdall should be white (fuck off there where no black NORSE gods). Chris Hemsworth LOOKS like Thor but that costume (and now we've seen it in context folks) looks fucking awful. It's almost as if Kenneth gave with one hand and took with another.
OK OK I'm still going to see it, but that trailer did NOT sell me. -
KICK ASS!
-
Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, can top that masterpiece.
-
...you're unworthy.
-
Why hide THAT trailer? It actually gives me hope...and unless (most) critics advise otherwise, I will be seeing THOR. It's funny, even from my perspective as an artist, how much emphasis we sometimes put on costume design. But consider how many movies that have LOOKED spectacular while falling far short of expectations. Even the opposite can hold true. I continue to have problems with Nolan's approach to Batman's costume design. It's okay to make costume function the priority of design (especially considering Nolan's approach to Batman, which I entirely approve), though I argue that you should not sacrifice the coolness of great design. (Even so, a higher emphasis on the visual has the potential to detract from Nolan's realization of the fantasy.) Nolan could have the best of both worlds if he wanted (and since Batman is now officially an outlaw, maybe it can have an influence on future design, making Batman look all the more fearsome). Yet, even as I disagree with some elements of design, THE DARK KNIGHT remains my favorite movie of all time. Now, take a look at THE WATCHMEN, a movie that had OUTSTANDING costume design, yet fell far short of box office expectations (though you can argue the R-rating, among other reasons). Personally, I consider THE WATCHMEN flick to be superior to the sequential artistry of the original comic book series (which I once owned and sold, back in the day). I continue to have high hopes for THE FIRST AVENGER: CAPTAIN AMERICA, THOR, and GREEN LANTERN. After all, I've yet to see anything that will keep me from buying tickets to all three.
-
The talkbacks don't fill me with confidence but there's a new pic of Thor that looks pretty cool. A lot better than the first pic that surfaced.
-
Really, thank you!
-
The trailer was better than I expected, but what the fuck was that at the end? It's still a bit weird to have Thor in the same movie as Iron Man, etc, which seemed more grounded in 'reality' per se. But then again, with supposedly the cosmic cube in the Capt. America movie, I guess it's not too far-fetched to have a god in your movie too.

I've seen a couple of comments on here state that (and true) trailers have been the opposite of the film before and I always remember my reaction to the X-Men being utterly suprised after a naff trailer and the Watchmen being utterly revolted after a brilliant trailer. Oh and Billf there's enough popcorn movies, what's wrong with a little thought in them once in a while?

They show the transition from Asgard to earth as if you're really coming down from a higher dimension or something, which is kind of cool. But a Thor movie needs to have a really funky rainbow bridge between the realms.
-
I liked it, but am I one of the only people that remembers that this has almost a year before its out? This trailer was just thrown together... sheesh

their shoehorning of the whole avengers thing into Iron Man 2 really killed the film for me. That and also the fact that they are making it their mission for people to slowly get sick of them. Keep comic book films separate. These tied universes should be left to the books only.

And you've done it, what, 100 times on this talkback alone? Do you see your hypocrisy, and why so many people here are so annoyed at you right now?Go back and read the way you started on this board - first you insulted a "first" poster - for one of the least obnoxious "first" posts ever - then you post multiple worked-up rants which essentially insult anyone who might like the footage. Then you start going off on everyone who disagrees with you. You're not a victim, you're just a guy experiencing an episode of lack of self-control. It happens to all of us here on occasion (I had my flamethrower on 'high' for Predators, for example). But you have the choice now to just let go of it, already. No one's forcing your hand except you. There is valid criticism of the footage, and valid praise for it. State your case. It's the only thing with value you can do here.

Karimkai I couldn't have said it better. Nice way to sum up
by thecheesegrommit
"Til' this day, I'm still mystified by the whole patter and motives of trolls and people who purposely go against the grain just to annoy people, all while in the comfort of their homes. For some time, they were content with this...." Let's face it, we walk pass these type of people everyday and nothing comes out there mouth, I guess every star needs time to shine...at the annoyance of others" Also the way that some state opinion as fact for example " The Shield cross over stuff is crap and there should not be a cohesive universe" I whole heartedly disagree! The building of this universe within the films takes the beginner viewer along as well as the seasoned comic fan. There will always be folk in here "hating" for reaction or others genuinely frustrated in there abilility to produce a film or their art and for that I pity them. It is much easier to hate than to create.

re: i mean does fucking nolan reference the green lantern?
by darth_von_stroheim
I understand where you're coming from MANZILLA, but the Nolan Batman films are clearly not set in the same universe as Singer's Superman or the upcoming GL movie. If they were, we would have seen a Joker created in a stew of chemicals and R'as Al Ghul as a Lazarus Pit immortal. I remember Nolan not wanting his Batman to appear in that failed Justice League movie, and was I ever thankful for that.
-

-
I think it looks spot on. A lot of Jack Kirby there in Asgard. I personally love the Marvel Movieverse they are building. Will it be as big as Iron Man? Probably not because a lot of that success is due to RDJ being Tony Stark but who knows. Anyway I am living a dream I thought I never would see with Marvel's characters coming to life on the big screen. I hope Captain America lives up to this quality, his costume (or lack of it really) has me worried. Anyway this looks better than the FF movie.
-
I like it! I was pretty on the fence about how this might work, but I think they've found the right path. Looks like a Thor movie, costumes look cool, restored some faith that Branaugh knows what to do with this and it feels like its not from another planet as IM movies. Definitely on board with this now.

What a bummer. I watched this from work today and now that I got home I wanted to show it to my sons who were totally stoked about it. Alas, REMOVED FOR INFRINGEMENT. Bummer.

The girl gets a lot of flack for her "wooden" performances, but let's take a closer look: Leon the Professional - At just 11 years old, she kicked ass. Funny, touching, believable, Luc Besson directing both her and Jean Reno in some of their most realistic acting. He would never be so subtle again. Garden State - she's just calle don to be funny and cute, with a little bit of angst. She pulls it off admirably due to Zach Braff's connection to the material. The Star Wars Prequels - Yeah, she's horrible in these. No lie. But no one comes out smelling like roses from this debacle. And it's all pointed squarely at the "director." Closer - she plays a fetching coquette, working closely with the amazing Mike Nichols to give a real, nuanced performance. Plus she's half naked. V for Vendetta - she could have gotten lost in another SFX action extravaganza, and in truth the W bros' ghost directing doesn't give her much, but she still creates a relatable character and some heavy scenes she pulls off well. It's obvious that she rises to the level of the abilities of her director. She tries her best with what she's give, and she gives them what they want, and unfortunately nothing more. In the hands of a capable, nuanced director who clearly understands the emotions of the character, she does fine, even exemplary work. In teh hands of someone who's too into action and spectacle, not paying attention to the actors and forcing them to emote badly scripted nonsense in the midst of a blue screens, she does poorly. With Branagh, it could go either way. He's an actor's director, with a flair for heavy emotional melodrama. He also directed Keanu Reeves to yet another plank performance.

...and that line "you are an old man and a fool" actually made me cringe. Hopefully better in context. I also hope that the real score is orchestrated, and not that generic comic book guitar-riff shit...Hate that.
Oh, and how cum the guy playing Hogun is clean shaven? The same actor played Ghengis Khan
just a couple of years ago with the perfect Hogun 'stach'?!? Was also hoping with Heimdall (Idris Elba) that they would take the recent visual approach of his helmet interior appearing as infinite stars...like peering into
another galaxy instead of actually seeing a face...adds some mystery to the character and is an elegant solution to all the 'black asgardian' talk. Looking forward to Titus Pollo/Punisher as Volstagg, and LOVE the look in the eyes of the actress playing Sif...pure, strong and steadfast. Loki and the overall look of Asgard A++, steel winged Thor helmet actually looks cool to me too. Color me cautiously optimistic. It ALL hinges on Hemsworth's acting skills...similar to Superman working primarily because you believed Christopher Reeve.
We'll see...

I just don't get it... "We don't want magic and gods in our movie about magic and gods because that would be fucking stupid....so lets have the gods be aliens who look just like us and the magic be technology. Now that's fucking cool."

A TOTALLY FUCKING AWESOME VIDEOGAME.
-
...is fucking RETARDED. This is like The Last Airbender in reverse. Is Hollywood THAT fucking stupid? I won't go see this because I cannot STAND to have "polital correctness" rammed down my throat. Remember when they could make a movie with a cast that didn't have every fucking race on Earth so obviously, and awkwardly represented? And for what? What fucking purpose does it serve to do this? Are there some fucking African guys out there that are going to be pissed that they didn't make one of them a God? This kind of shit just reinforces the sense of entitlement that some subcultures already have. And why the fuck is Gort in this stupid shit?

It may have been yanked at ComicBookMovie.com, but it's still live at tinyurl.com/ThorCC Of course, Marvel monitors AICN threads like this, so I imagine it'll get yanked, too, within the hour. Download and cap whilst you can!

Having the black guy and the asian guy as gods is fine. I mean Norse gods aren't actually from Sweden or Norway. They're from the 'magical land' of Asgard so can be sky blue or polka dot pink for all it matters.
Plus... FLASH GORDON throne room scene had lots of ethnicities and sizes (midgets with little midget swords), and methinks Branagh just said to his crew "gimme FLASH circa 1981". -
Which is a plus. Needs more Brian Blessed!

-
you are one stupid retard. holy shit man, google it idiot. Thor did die for real.

Do you see his work in Conan the Destroyer. Incredible!! And look at the black audience he brought in. Not as many as Billy Dee in SW, but hey theres only one Billy Dee. Scuse me while I crack open an ice cold 45 and think about my lady.
-
I agree - that was a very weak moment, and as you said, I hope the overall scene is much better than that snippet. Makes Thor look like a bitch and we don't want that. But I think Hemsworth will deliver the goods if that island movie is any indication. The Perfect Getaway. That's it. He was good in that.
-
Is because this was meant as a snak peek for those that attended comic-con, it isn't a representation of the final film, the tone of which is still being crafted in the editing bay. We all worked hard on this film and Myself and kenneth would like to wait until we have the final tone nailed down before reasing a triler to the general punblic. Complain all you want but exclusives like that are what make going to comic-con worthwhile, if every clip screened at c-con showed up online a few days later, then what would be the point of holding the event?Just have faith in us, you guys know my screenplay work and you know i've never steered you wrong
-
Read his response to Question 2 from day 3 of his Q&A. The best any of us can really do is give these filmmakers the benefit of the doubt, hope they put their hearts into it and deliver a satisfying movie-going experience. In regards to hating on trailers, if I've proven anything to myself in all the years I've watched trailers, it's that, good or bad, you simply can't gauge an entire movie by one. I've seen poor trailers for great movies, great trailers for shitty movies, and so on. 2-5 minutes, even 8 minutes (I remember an 8-min extended trailer for Batman Begins) is a very small percentage of the film. All judgment that comes from a trailer (the proverbial cover of a movie), is merely predisposition to love or hate it. Granted, none of us are can completely suspend judgment. You just do the best you can, and hopefully drop your expectations at the door. How can you validly enjoy, or criticize a film otherwise?
-
One on hand, it's gimmicky and PC, you're right. But if you look back to the old comics there's a distinction within Asgard between "gods" and "Asgardians". Odin, Thor, Loki, etc. are actual gods, immortals, whereas the guys like Hogun, Fandral, Volstagg, etc., are warriors, mortal residents of Asgard, and when you include all the varied parts of Asgard - including the sort of Mongol-looking place Hogun is from - there's a lot of room for ethnic diversity.Sure, black Heimdall seems random, and the Japanese Hogun looks more East Asian than Central Asian (which would seem more fitting for the character). But it's not black Kingpin, these are side characters. Here's hoping that these actors do the part justice - and that goes for the white actors, too.
-
A few commenters here are saying there's no rainbow bridge, but it's there in the first sweeping shot of Asgard. It's the energy-beam-looking thing that goes right up the middle of the cityscape. At first glance, looks like they did a great job on it. It'll be interesting to see it up close, if we ever do. Warriors riding along it, and Heimdall's stance in the middle of it, are certainly iconic images from the comic.
-
have faith in you guys

OKAY PEOPLE, LET'S JUST STOP AND STEP BACK FOR A MOMENT
by bringingsexyback
We're getting a major Thor motion picture. And it's not by one of the Hack Pack.
Seriously, that alone is pump-worthy. Hyper-scrutinizing an early trailer is unwarranted. If ya love comic books ya gotta give this a chance. -
Is just some latter-day bullshit concocted by third-rate substitues for actually talented comic writers. It will have as much meaning and significance in the future as Superman's death, Captain American's death, Batman's death, and clone Spider-Man - in other words, none at all. It may be an "official" part of the Marvel storyline for now, but it's a stupid joke that will be mercifully forgotten with time.
-
...they made it to America 500 years before Columbus, kicked ass out of most of Europe, discovered Iceland and Greenland, sacked Constantinople (now known as Istanbul, Turkey) and Sicily, raised hell in much of Russia, raided North Africa, traded with the Arabs... fuckers got around. They've found Buddha figurines in the remnants of Viking settlements in Europe. They would have been quite familiar with both Africans and Asians. Sure it's a little stretch as the explanation for the "black and asian" Norse gods, but I give it a pass. Besides, look at the comics, Hogun was always drawn sort of Asian-looking.
-
How far does your obsession extend? Will you go completely psychotic, and rant like this in every Thor thread from now on? Or is this a one-day event?
It might be better for your mental health if the aicn mods took pity on you AND us, and banned you. Not because of your opinion about a snippet of footage, of course; but because of your irrational behavior. -

The trailer is ok, the old comic geek in me recognizes the style and feel of the movie from the old old (like 70s and 80s dude), the Destroyer looks perfect.
Still the trailer is only ok. Acting is fine, if generic, but the fighting. Meh, the grab the overhang double leg kick, more then once, no, just no.

Nope, i was wearing normal clothes when i wrote the Thor sript, althout i did do some early designs for the costumes. As for a sly like Q & A, Harry has asked me in the past but i've always turned him down due to shedule conflicts or me thinking that you guys really woudn't care what i had to say. But if there is a general interest in me answering your questions then let harry know and maybe we can set something up...you are right that i do have some stories to tell
-
what also surprised me is how the general public that is usually known for being dumb made this intelligent movie into a huge financial success. Its all good because after all the plain story in AVATARs and the disturbingly popular Twilights, people needed to see a real movie.
-
we want you to explain how tough it was writing the Thor script and stuff, very interesting. just one question though; did you like stargate universe or not?

That's exactly it man. Cut and paste editing with no regard for sense or continuity. I can understand the technique used for a 25 to 30 second commercial but when you have 5 minutes to play with, it's just annoying!

It started out as a general idea for a third batman film and it stayed that way well into a second draft, but then we both agreed that it deserved to be it's own film in it's own world. We may delve into a batman type dream world, but it will only be part of a alrger story and not the main plot as it was in our first draft (titled Batman: inception)
-
other talkbackers have mentioned, nay, CLAMORED, for you to have a Q&A...if Odin couldn't magically come up with that number. Loki would be shocked.

And that's important because it makes most of you wrong. You're forming your opinions from a false premise.
A real trailer is carefully constructed for maximum impact, with stirring music, lots of corporate logos, etc. It is marketing.
This footage reel was designed to be shown at ComicCon to GEEKS (the true believers). It was never meant to be the world's introduction to the world of Thor.
When the real trailer arrives in 6 months, it will be shorter, tighter, it will hit harder, and hopefully the special effects will be more polished (especially the way the hammer looks). -

I'm asshamed to admit that I have never seen an episode of the stargate television series. I worked on the film and even wrote a draft of the proposed sequel, but rights issues got in the way and the studio went the TV route, which was not where i envisioned the story going. Call it sour grapes or just no interest in what someone else is doing to my characters, but I've never seen an episode so i can't really form an unbiased opionion of it.But thanks for the support, it's nice to know you guys like reading all my scoops and stories

BETWEEN THOR AND YOUR HIGHNESS, NATALIE WILL OWN 2011
by bringingsexyback
Good on her!
-
I thought the footage reel was amazing. Yes, it could be better -- everything has the "Iron Man" plastic CGI look to it.
But I was pretty happy with all the Asgard scenery & costumes. The casting of Thor, Loki & Odin is excellent. Clear Kirby influence, a huge plus for me. We'll see how this experiment from Marvel Studios turns out.. (shared universe, more obscure characters getting feature films). -
Ever since we've been kids it's been one or the other, i do tend to use C-nol a bit more because it's a little more pleasent sounding. It's just a nickname i started one day and it stems from a Paul mccartney song that we both happend to be listening too. Boring story but aren't al nickname stories that way?
-
it looks good. I prefer it when Hemsworth speaks with an english accent sounds a bit like Heath Ledger, as opposed to the american sounding accent he uses sometimes, nothing that can't be fixed in post.
-
I know a skilled writer as yourself might find it hard to enjoy a TV show that didnt initially focus on the characters but I think the stargate TV shows did a pretty good job at expanding the fictional universe. And it has become the best science fiction franchises on TV for its imaginary worlds mixed with present world setting. The new stargate show titled SGU, is definitly gonna grab your interest since it is character-driven.
-
which does he prefer?Oh wait, should I save that for the Q&A?
-
You're right, it does look a lot more like it than Ultron. Plus I couldn't figure out how they would shoehorn Ultron into the story.
-
have you got any nuggets about the new Star Wars live action tv series, you must have had your creative hands in that pie.
-
Would you want someone else raising your kids? Plus, how much free time do you think the SCRIPT DOCTOR has?
-
...how can you not like the trailer? It IS more IRON MAN than TDK but that not necessarily a bad thing IMHO.
-
Due to other projects, I'm not as directly involved with the star wars series as i'd like to be. But I did lay out the groundwork of the show with Lucas back in early 2009 and i think what we are going to be offering is closer to the feel of the original films as opposed tot he prequels. Thats niot a knock at the prequels, what i mean is that with a smaller budget and crew the series will be forced to be a little more grounded then episodes 1-3 were. I actually plan on heading over to austrailia in november once shooting starts, George wants me to direct an episode, which i'm seriously considering
-
I'm not sure if I've seen frost giants in the comic so I don't know how big they're supposed to be, but they didn't look that large to me.
-
Where's Dolph Lundgren? This looks fucking. Awful.
-
What else can you expect from the big-name actors! Story seems cool too especially for an unimaginative yet cool looking bad guy! Wonder how many Oscars nominations...
-
all those marvel characters are geting their own movies then theres the avengers, seems like overkill to me. Too much superhero movies will make audience interest wane quite abit.
-
First off, get a new handle. Danny_Glovers_Dick_Blood was the original, and the only funny one of its kind. All the others, Scarlett's Breast Milk, Gere's Gerbil, and so on, are just hacks, and frankly, I'm sick of seeing them. You stated earlier you have a great imagination, so use it. You also stated earlier..."i would love it if people all just had generally decent taste...some objectivity...". Where is your objectivity concerning this trailer?
-
You owe it to your fans.
-
Something tells me he's pulling your leg.
-
Are you kidding? After the fiascos that were FF, S-M3, X-movies, Wolverine ... we need a good injection of this. We're overdue.
-
...dont want say which one, in case studio suits are scouring the internet, whealding the ban hammer.
Anyway, the movie looks kind of goofy and fun and even fairly camp-ish. But that's okay, it's Thor. Goofiness is fine as long as it's done well. For the serious genre stuff, we'll always have Chris Nolan. -

Thor:G'day ladies! I guess I'm on Earth for a walkabout...
by thanos0145
What's with the cheesy dialog (and Australian accent). Thor needs his Asgardian speak. We need to hear the THEE's and NAY's, and its MIDGARD not Earth.Asgard has a Chronicles of Riddick vibe to it.The Destroyer was cool but no money shot for Thor like twirling MJOLNIR to look like a propeller.I still think Thor is going to be better than Captain PC.
-
Huh ?:P
-
I think its going to take a week for people to disseminate everything thats going on in this trailer. Its jam packed with awesomeness. I'm sure those are Rock Trolls (like Ulik) Thor and his group are fighting deep in Asgard. Thats was most definitely the Cosmic Cube Loki was reaching for. I'm thinking Idris Elba was chosen because Heimdall will play a larger role here than the rest of Thor's Bunch. (Struggle for power during Odinsleep ) = Did Thor ruin Asgardian peace by fighting the Rock Trolls or did he set loose The Mangog?
-
He doesn't understand Earth customs! Uh oh! Thooooor! (Cue "rasberry" horn sound effect as Thor shrugs his shoulders in bewilderment after some transgression or other.)
-
Damn...and I was looking forward to this, too.
Nice to see that Portman still hasn't invested in acting lessons, (sits back and waits for obese virgins to screech at me that "when you look like Portman, you don't need to act!!!!!!!!" or some such horseshit). -
She's not very good, either, but, I like her anyways. Oddly enough, I kinda think Kat Dennings (the other chick in this flick) is actually a marginally better actress... she looks sluttier too, real party girl. I reckon Portman's parties involve drinking tea, writing her dissertation for Harvard grad school, looking gorgeous, and going to bed early.
-
We can imagine the rest.
-
Theres a photo on the web of Sif in similiar surroundings of clip. Rocky, barren terrain in semi darkness. If Thor did start a war with rock trolls, wouldn't have a problem with it as a war would lead into 2d film. Still have feeling Odinsword will play a part in one of the movies as someone noted to check Odins throne looking like sheath for a sword.
-
place should be iridescent + opalescent to the max.and is branagh doin zach snyder slo mo tricks?
-
man some of you people are just plain ridiculous.....this looks better than any of us had any right to expect......costumes look great, actors seem more or less on par, tone and pallet are in line with Iron Man............and as for Idris being cast, get over it....a.) it's a comic book property, not a literal take on Norse Mythology, they're as much from another dimension as they are Gods (maybe some of you are just uncomfortable with the idea of a black god? even if he is essentially a bellhop....come to think of it, I'm surprised some of you small minded pricks don't enjoy that ......oh yeah, and b.) If it means a better actor inhabiting the role wtf is the problem with any race?
-
That's why I tune into these talkbacks... it's more entertaining than any Marvel Thor vs. Troll battle :))
Srsly, tho... looks like campy fun, I'll see it -
A hammer is a pretty effective weapon when used right. 'Specially one with a 25 pound head. Recovery after the swing is a is a bitch, but it hits god awful hard.. Harder if you can military press 100tons and it's made out of magic super alloy I imagine. I imagine someone like Thor can swing that hammer around like it weighs nothing. I'll still be very interested to see what kind of fighting style they developed for the movie.
-
in the banner ad looks like Klaus Kinski?!?
-
However, you can't tell me that some suit at a meeting didn't say "OK guys, we gotta have an African American in here somehwere... who's it gonna be?". I guess I should be thankful that they didn't decide it was gonna be Thor himself, but still, it's just too much for me. Where exactly are the people who made such a fucking big deal out of The Last Airbender having supposedly the "wrong" races (in a fictional universe, no less... utterly stupid)? They're nowhere to be seen, because it was a WHITE person who was replaced by a BLACK person. I get it. I know I am making a WAY bigger deal out of this than I ought to, but I am just sick to death of our society being slowly taught that whites are evil., and this type of shit is how it slowly creeps in and becomes acceptable.
-
"Better than any of us had any right to expect"?!?! God, your standards must be low...
-
Q: What does Robin Quivers' pussy and the first 10 minutes of a movie have in common?A: No black guys ever seen it

I think it is The Destroyer. "Now I will put on my magic gloves of glory and take you on a cruise to destroy all of you." Although that was from an unrelated game, unless I got the quote wrong. But, really, the name sincerely is The Destroyer as far as I know.
-
is that Asgard designs look like Sports Cars Gone WILD! There simply isn't enough grit and reality to it.
-
Like many others, I have voiced my (modest) opinion about the footage - some seem to agree, some to disagree.
What I don't get is the need for some people to post the basically same thing over and over and start in pointless discussion trying to rationalize their views.
First, this footage is only a tiny fraction of the movie (that may not even be final) and second, learn to respect other people's opinion - there is little change that you will change it anyway over something as subjective as the quality of a movie.
Having said that, everyone who likes this footage is a moron ;) -
fuck this noise. the trailer was a mix of Masters of the Universe and some low budget gay porno
-
For the record, if they're going to do anything with SHIELD, I'd rather see him on screen as opposed to Sam Jackson. Sam isn't even acting, he's just there with an eye-patch, saying some lines after wandering onto the wrong set.
-
Scowered Youtube to watch this trailer. I was never a fan of the Thor comic books, so I have no expectations. Looks like a fun flick!

Does she even have any facial expressions?

you dont think that having thor walk around and speaking in thees and thous and with the royal we would sound silly?what plays well on the page doesnt always work on the screen
-
Looks ok. Not great, but ok. And all the Iron Man/Shield crossing is nice, very true to the Marvel comics.
As to everything being too clean, Asgard and the throne room have been described like that.
I personally was hoping for a grittier approach, but you can´t have it all, LOL
And what a pretty Boy he is! I´d slay him and then I´d make love to Padme next to his carcass. -
usual stiff and wooden line delivery (why do they keep hiring her?) it looks pretty sweet.
And why would Asgard, the idealized home of the Gods, be "Gritty and Real"? -
because he thought the concept of Thor was better suited to use shakespearan language. Problem is what sounds good on paper can sound like crap when you say it.
-
this isnt a trailer you dum asses, trailers arnt 5 and a half minutes long. we are not meant to see this so with hold judgement until we are really MEANT to see something that isnt leaked. the only people that should have an opinion of this should be the people at comic con. people who in that enviroment get to see it once, not muliple times like we now have that the opition to do. this video isnt meant for us so just be happy to see anything you ungratful haters
-
this is good stuff. Will have more action than either IM movies. Loki is like a viper, the Thor guy is pretty good when you consider that not only does he have to look like a god of thunder but sound like him. He sounds better than Bales Batman. The fight sequence using martial arts is WTF. Although giving someone a boot to the face is ok in my book. Branaghs camera shots were good as well as the cinematography. Warriors 3 looked good. Sif looked HOT!! As far as the 3 iron plated guys, don't know but the executioner wore similiar outfit and mask back in the day.

Did anyone else think Shoop Da Whoop?

No, but I did wonder about the delivery of Coulson's next line. Did he know the destroyer was gonna blast em, or did he think he was gonna get a face?

for the establishing shot for a fantastical city. Peter Jackson over uses that in LOTR. Makes it look tiny and insignificant, albeit interesting, sort of like looking at a real city from an airplane. It would be better to go with a street level view looking up -- would make it more awe inspiring.
-
Im sorry It looked just like the Destoyer Armor and it was menacing as hell.
-
Ironman will look stupid when Thor comes to town
-
of how menacing they made the destroyer. Also seemed when they designed it to be an homage to the robot from the original "Day the earth stood still".
-
Cuz I'm in.
-
and in Asgard there are also asian and black men.Cool trailer though but the movie will be unbalanced imho. The Asgard scenes will be great but the Earth scenes ridiculous.
-
why do the yanks keep choosing us for these films... Thor should at least have some type of Scandinavian accent.. there's a million buff, blonde Norwegians they could've chosen I'm sure... now it seems like Thor comes from A Land Down Under... thats why Eric Bana should've never been the Hulk... he was trying so hard to do an American accent (which was terrible) he couldn't get into the part... and the dude can act, you've only got to watch Munich or Chopper to see that. Terrible casting decision yet again.
-
That's how I got it, came out to an FLV file, 24 megs. Whenever you see a youtube/medavideo stream you know will go away, bust out the Orbit. Free program, too. Very rockin.
-
Got it from Download.com so it should be safe but I get the sneaking suspicion they're grabbing what I'm grabbing. Its behavior makes me suspect spyware.
-
How is casting a black actor in a role akin to the conceit that "whites are evil"? You're just really small-minded and you seem to have a lot more at stake with regards to the actor's race than just some nitpicking over a casting choice...
-
The Good: Clark Gregg as SHIELD agent Phil Coulson. He is loads of fun in that role and his wry sense of humour comes off well.
The Bad: Natalie Portman. While she is pretty as all hell and a fine actress, she looks lost in roles like these. Blame Lucas as much as you want for the prequels, but Portman didn't exactly bring her A game to those films either. -
While the trailer is way better than those terrible images, it wasnt exactly inspiring. It at least looks entertaining...I mean, its Thor. Those comics were kind of cheesy fun. But a blockbuster, or the next iron man? I dont think so.

didn't get anything. I'll agree it is a tad slow-ish, but I just attribute that to it being sometimes buggy freeware. I can never get it to work with Google Chrome for some reason and it only really works with Internet Explorer. But once you get Grab++ going, it's pretty rockin'. I doubt it's sending it to the Orbit fellows, otherwise they would have a bunch of Chad Vader episodes, a few music videos, the Thor preview, and a boatload of porn. Hope they enjoy it!

That_Girl_From_The_Lowes, you think intelligence is the arbiter of taste? That's just... dumb. Taste differs by culture, age, sex, many, many other factors than intelligence. I think you may be young, but I'm not sure, so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

to criticize on this website reveals a tiny mind, vocabulary and imagination. If you want to criticize something, fine. Just give constructive criticism like others do. If you don't like something and can only say "gay", you're showing the world just what a little person you are.
-
I think you could very truly call it gay then. We don't know what surprises are in store for May 2011!!
-
Christina Hendricks to the milk bar please.
-
his background in shakespearean language was probally one of the main reasons he was hired. I think after his hiring, a change in style of speaking was made at some high level. Branagh also might have been chosen as the Odinson family seems to be of shakespearean tradgedy (Father who's sons constantly break his heart, brothers forever at war, a tale of a kingdom)which of course Branagh is associated with.
-
And I got Anthony Hopkins to play Odin in this film, only to have him die half-way through so we don't have to renegotiate for sequels! GO ME!
Oh, I'm too sexy for my shorts, too sexy for my shorts, ETC. -
Also, you're a werewolf. Sorry I didn't explain that to you earlier.
-
The Earth Stood Still.
-
Not bad. Hope they allow Thor to be in costume quite a bit. Looks good. Some of my favorite things were the subtle look at the Rainbow Bridge, Odin's huge bed (reminds me of the comics), the Warriors Three, and Loki.

lots of haters on this site. Looks good to me, looks like fun!
-
to do with being a "hater" or whatever lame, ineffectual, kindergarten epithet you choose to be the one millionth uncreative person to say.
-
Really? Two hour movie and you know exactly what's up in 4 minutes? This is a real thing? This can actually happen?
-
Jul 29, 2010 9:02:37 PM CDT
this is why the term "hater" is extremely apt in that case
by tall_boy66
Because it's bug-fucking-impossible to get the feel and know if a film will be good or bad after a few goddamn minutes - not even a full film, but snippets from scenes, mind you. So you can call someone a "hater" because they have no basis in their opinion. So, hater. Simple.
-
The clip fulfilled as much as I would want from a Thor movie that was going to cross over with Ironman/CA/Avengers etc.
What's the point in barking on about "urgh his helmets too shiney!" or "Thor's voice isn't right" This is Branaghs interpretation of the story. That's it. Good luck to him & to Marvel. It wasn't that long ago that the idea of Marvel getting all these characters & putting them together would have seemed impossible, we should at least hold judgement until they're all done. -
I merely voiced a minor quibble. Redmantle made a sweeping generalization about every post in this thread. So, barking "hater" shows a lack of thought (and either patience to go through the thread or lack of reading comprehension). Simple-minded. And ubiquitous and lacking in originality.
-
you said "ubiquitous"
-
Thanks for confirming it's not malware. Cuz like you said when it gets downloading it's a speed demon ...
-
Horribly edited. Remember, this is NOT a mainstream super hero. The trailer is too long and is incomprehensible. I do like the very end, though.
-
I'm critiqeing the TRAILER, not the film. I think the movie will be just fine, but trailers themselves are like "mini movies."
-
and as others have posted it was made for comic con so I think we'll get a more polished trailer for the general public. Marvel knew they had to get something available for the con and slapped this together.
-
suck it, this is THOR, I'm sold....
-
ah, that makes sense then. It didn't quite feel like a "trailer." Curious to see what they release, then.
-
if THOR isn't mainstream, what is?
-
keep properties outside of Marvel's hands please. Honestly everybody was bitching about the Xmen series but I have no doubt at all that the third film will still be better than this trash and Captain America. God damn this Thor reel keeps reminding me of Power Rangers.
-
a reel designed only to get fanboy juices flowing at comic con, and hardly worth critiquing in that light. a proper trailer, assembled by an actual trailer company, should be due out relatively soon.
-
Mainstream is Superman, Batman, etc. Hell, even Iron Man isn't "mainstream."
-
as in, go on the street, and just randomly ask people if they know who the following superheroes are. I doubt many of them will know who Thor is.
-
Because intelligent and discerning film connoisseurs have a need to fling about their vocabulary like a monkey flings poop. I wonder if he'll use the word "trite' next? At least he didn't use a paragraph break to make his point, right?
-
so, you're basically saying DC?
before the Xmen, how many non comic readers knew who Wolverine was?
Thor is as mainstream as Marvel gets in my opinion. -
a paragraph break would have rocked.ROCKED!
-
Oops, sorry, yea I guess I did focus on DC. As for Marvel, hey, Spider-Man takes the cake. Seriously, just do a random sampling, all ages. 99% will know Superman, Batman, Spiderman. Thor? Meh, maybe 34%.
-
where are you getting these figures from?
Sure Spiderman is more popular than Thor, but Thor's still a mainstream character. An original member of the Avengers, he's been around long enough. I'd say if you know comics, you know Thor, and if you've seen Ironman 2 you know Thor. So, he's pretty popular. -
of a particular hero is the merchandise available for him. Place I work has novelty t-shirts of IM,punisher,CA,marvel universe, spidey, bats, supes,gl. No wolvie though and we have ones of flash and capt marvel symbols. Biggest selection of the above heroes is supes and bats. Assume its because my employers data says bats and supes are most likely to be bought because of name and symbol recognition. Iron Man now because of his movies might now be in the recognizable category.
-
your key phrase is "if you know comics." Very true. You'll know Thor. But, of the general population, how many visit a comic store weekly?
-
all those heroes have logo's though. I think that's why they sell and are popular. Neither Wolverine or thor has a logo.
-
yeah exactly, so most peoples knowledge of superheros is from tv or the movies. So before a movie is made of a hero, how "mainstream" is he? if Batman had never featured in a film or tv show, how many people would know him outside comics?
same with Thor, until he has his moment on the big screen i'd say he's still a mainstream character. More so because non-comic readers may know of him from Germanic mythology (historians etc) -
ah, good point about the mythology. That does open up a whole new can o' worms (since I love mythology) and true, there are many more people who could be familiar with that.
-
I think most of us understand that, but for those above who keep talking about Odin dying, what we're seeing in the footage is most likely the Odinsleep. That was used on several occasions in the comic for Loki to have an opening to seize power. That, or Odin is somehow weakened or wounded, which was also used for the same purpose, often to have him reveal at the end that he wasn't really in peril but was just giving Thor a chance to prove himself. With all of that history in the comics, I'd be shocked if they bothered to kill him off. If they did, Thor would have to remain in Asgard permanently thereafter to take his place, which would put a slight crimp in plans for the Avengers.
-
Advertising saturation is a pretty easy way to bring up brand recognition. I'm not sure people won't know who and what Thor's deal is before they walk into the movie. Hell, Iron Man 2 made hundreds of millions of dollars, and what's the last shot of the flick? There's your advertising right there!
-
It makes a hero more recognizable as we only have one type GL shirt and its of the battery. When the heroes have their movies come out the t's are basically their symbol. The IM t's were all of his chest thing for IM2. Gotta a feeling for Thor its his hammer.
-
Don't think people knew it was based on a comic. Just a guy with a hitech suit and thats how I sold it to my coworkers. And it was easy: no colorful outfits, crazy powers, diabolical evil plan. You could make the case IM is just an action flick not a pure supers movie.
-
What is this? The Third Man?
-
But I was getting a major Hard To Kill vibe from Kat Dennings in that clip.[Shakes head]"Mason Storm..."
-
To the MORON who posted something to that effect, do you NOT realize that the whole purpose of having the Iron Man movies, the Hulk Re-boot, Thor and Captain America (ALL with cameos and references) is for the eventual Avengers Movie that they will be making which includes ALL these characters. You must be a troll, or a mentally challenged slope browed neanderthal (or both) to not understand that concept.
-
The description of the preview sounds cool. I will be giving this a chance for sure next year.

Most of the shit that made sense to me as a kid no longer makes
by darth philbin
I loved reading Thor as a kid. 25+ years later I now have to convince my wife that we are going to pay $40 for tickets and popcorn to see a movie that is basically about the Son of God fighting demon robots in New Mexico with a sledgehammer. And if that ain't going to make me lose pussy-getting privileges for a month, trying to explain that even though he is pretty much a deity one day he's going to need Iron Man to help him fight a bitch will.
-
its still up there via MovieWeb
-
just the concept of superheroes banding together fighting one big bad mofo is corny in the extreme. sure, i understand that it gets the fans salivating. i understand the appeal, but really when you think about it... one muscle man wearing colorful spandex is homo enough, but a bunch of muscle men wearing colorful spandex grouping together???
and it's so convenient that these superdudes always have supervillains to occupy their time with, preventing them to actually tackle the real villains and the real problems - big bad corporations, corrupt politicians, third world dictators, world hunger/poverty, etc etc...
noooo... dont need to deal with those when you can just fight another homo in spandex and shoot laser beams at each other. yeah, some 'super'heroes. yaawn...
at least batman dont wait for supervillains to show up and go after the mobs. spider-man and superman just wait for petty crimes to happen. pathetic. -
Them S.H.I.E.L.D. guys didn't see that coming!
-
dealt with corrupt politician, Doctor Doom is a third world dictator who also has diplomatic immunity, Superman dealt with corrupt corporations in his first few issues, Oscorp in Marvel is an evil corporation, and nothing offhand, but I guarantee there are storylines dealing with those other problems, and others.
-

where the rainbow always shine and real evils only come in the form silly looking men in silly looking costume.
i dig if kids dig it, but if you're no longer a kid then i think you should expect your superheroes to do actually do something 'super' than just playing wrestling with other homos in spandex.
with big power comes big responsibility, no? what's a bigger responsibility now - catching a purse snatcher or exposing corrupt corporation? even fictions can be made more relevant by being made more serious.
@dingbatty... wouldnt it be so refreshing to see a bad guy who's just plain bad without all the gimmickry like halloween mask, green cape, laser beams, and all those stuffs? just saying.
-
What would you have different? I'm curious. I personally see nothing wrong with what we've seen of the film thus far. If I'm missing the awful part I just want to know what it is. I graduated college summa cum laude so I think I'm somewhat on the up and up with the intelligence thing. To me this seems to capture Marvel Thor's origin story pretty well and it captures Jack Kirby's artistic concepts as well. I could see if someone wanted a real Norse mythology movie, but keep in mind, the stories of the Aesir are not particularly clear on a lot of things. When Marvel adapted it long ago they filled in a lot of gaps. So given this, what is it? Is it the fact that they're not going the Donald Blake route? Is it Thor walking the Earth dressed as a human? It just makes me wonder why some people even go to movies or even care, if they hate them so much. And by the by, if you take the time to post something on this website, that makes you a fan boy (of movie genres in general) on some level whether you want to be or not. There's just levels of fanboy, like the church with the regular and the Orthodox. Anyways, I'm not saying all this cause I wanna call someone out. I just really want to know if I'm missing something here. I've watched it three times and I still like it.
-
...will buy a ticket and see this thing. So, despite the braying, there will be theaters filled with these homophobic, bigoted TB nerds who think they can 4chan their way to all caps stardom on teh AICN intertewbz.
-
How is it remotely possible to have a Planet/Realm that only has White inhabitants?
-
jerk.
-
Oh that's right, this is the AICN TB.
-
you do realise this is NOT a trailer don't you? It's just a reel of footage put together for the comic con. Like the Iron Man footage a few years back.
-
I've got to admit this looks pretty damned watchable. I'll go so far as to say this gives me hope that Green Lantern might not turn out completely like radioactive shit. At least next summer is shaping up with some stuff to look out for on the big screen after this summer in the doldrums.
-
It's bad enough to have to put up with your fucking spamming but to misdirect people to videos by saying they're something is just plain LAME.
I hope your cock drops off. -
I like Nolan, but not everything can or should be Dark & Gritty, and Thor is NOT Conan or 300 nor should it be derivative bullshit. The Marvel Comics Thor is an OTT space-aged myth. This fits the bill. Live it, love it, and if you can't take over the top madness, don't read comic books.
-
or he had it turned into a mangina.
It ain't cool, somebody ban him. -
speaking of Conan, I'm assuming that it was a no show at the Comic con this year?
-
You are so off base.JettL is as real as 2for2true is a godlike diety.
-
I love comics but Thor always seemed like a weird idea for a superhero to me... was very surprised when they wanted to make a big budget film of him... even if its good, id probably still wait for it on dvd... he was kind of cool in the Ultimates where you didn't know whether he was just a crazy human or not but other than that story I don't really know anything about him...
-
Reel had a quick showing of 3 warrior types in metal with helms. When executioner first appeared he had similiar look. By the way, still a cool looking villain. But there was a Lee/Kirby story about 3 brothers each with the power of Odin out for revenge on the Odinson family so it could be them. Any thoughts?
-
"i think avengers is lame as hell".. yeah, I am very thankful right now that I had the childhood experience of loving these comics. The art, the heroism, the epicness was all amazing.
Of course, I'm talking about the 80s, when comics still had a certain charm, before the coloring became digital mud, and all the lettering was computerized. Before trade-paperbacks existed and comics were being written to fit that format (see: decompression).
Sure, there is potential for great cheese with superhero stories, but that's true for any kind of story. Sturgeon's Law rightly says that ninety percent of everything is crap. I find that number to be a little low for comics; it's more like 97%.
But that top 3%.. Astro City.. Geoff Johns' Green Lantern.. and yes, the Avengers -- oldschool, Busiek's amazing stuff, or The Ultimates.. and back to the subject at hand, Kirby's Thor. -
kevred wondered if the shadowy figures might be the Enchanters Three.
-
... just a thought.
-
thats where I recognized them. If it is indeed them, are we looking at the villains for the next Thor movie? Hope so, as it'd mean more Lee/Kirby stuff on the big screen. Thanks also Kevred for figuring out who they are.
-
in the movie, do you think one will get slighted in terms of screen time? Would rather have a nice long brutal battle with destroyer to show how dangerous it is than the Loki battle. After all you know in a future film those two are gonna fight again so let this movie be the destroyers. It's his one shot onscreen so let him have his moment.
-
in the next movie. I know in the first, he's going to spend a lot of time on earth because of the story and do the fish out of water routine. But Thor as a fish out of water on earth doesn't interest me. I'd rather have a Thor movie set in Asgard where the audience is seeing things we've never seen before. I mean would you rather see a NYC skyline or the unknown wilds of Asgard?

And I'm not talking about anything in the way of special or visual effects; from a purely film standpoint-- even one that's supposed to be nothing more than a "fun comic movie"-- this looks horrible. Is this really what "SELLS" these days?? Good lord...

I know literally next to nothing about Thor, so my expectations are minimal... but that trailer looks really nice. the prospect of Brannagh directing a Marvel film fascinates me, Hopkins is classing it up, Portman looks GORGEOUS as usual... my intrigue meter went from about a 0.5 prior to seeing that trailer, to about an 8 now.
-
The reel did just about show the entire film. And, yes... a trailer can reveal an entire film... go watch the trailer to "What Lies Beneath" then watch the movie... you see everything in the trailer.
