Hey Chicago! Capone has more details about the free Rolling Roadshow screening of THE BLUES BROTHERS at the Joliet Prison!!!
Hey everyone. Capone in Chicago here.
A couple of weeks ago, the Alamo Drafthouse's 2010 Rolling Roadshow announced its summer screening schedule, and I posted it on the site. But I wanted to make a special plea to the folks I see on a regular basis about the blessing we're getting thanks to the good folks that put these events together. I wanted to tell you about something so stupendous, something so magnificent, happening in Chicagoland in a couple weeks, that any true movie lover…hell, any true Chicagoan…would be a fool to miss. And to top it all off, the event in question is free. For me personally, this event the realization of a long-time dream to have a little slice of the Alamo Drafthouse here in Chicago. The crew of the Drafthouse and the Rolling Roadshow are the kings and queens of Special Events, and if you come to the screening, you're hear how this event came to be.
On Friday, August 13, the good folks of the Alamo Drafthouse's 2010 Rolling Roadshow (co-sponsored by Levi's brand) have organized a screening of the classic John Landis-directed THE BLUES BROTHERS to take place in the only place it truly could--just outside the walls of the Old Joliet Prison--from where "Joliet" Jake Blues (John Belushi) is released at the beginning of the film. The address is 1125 Collins Street, Joliet, IL. Make it your mission from God to make it to this once-in-a-lifetime event. Start time appears to be 8:00pm. Don't be late. And did I mention, the screening is free? Well, it is.
For those of you not familiar with the (Rolling Roadshow), it's this wonderful traveling gift to cinema, during which specific locations across the nation are paired with films that were shot or set in that city. ROBOCOP screens in Detroit; THE GODFATHER, PART II screening on the rooftops near New York's Little Italy; the first three ROCKY movies screen at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. And the list goes on. These are 35mm, outdoor screenings on a huge screen.
For all the details on THE BLUES BROTHERS screening, go to the
(Rolling Roadshow BLUES BROTHERS site). Specifics on attendance and what you might need to bring will be added soon. And the organizers are asking that everyone who wants to attend to RSVP via the (event's Facebook page). I simply can't imagine anyone in a 500-mile radius of the Joliet Prison even thinking about missing this historic event. I'll see you there, music lovers and true believers.

-
seriously, throw us a bone, here! Seattle never gets SHIT!!
-
because i am not going to this fucker alone. i wonder how much coke will be done in the audience in remembrance of Belushi. stay tuned!
-
I'm stretching...
-
...in that The Blues Brothers was originally envisaged as being a three-hour movie that would have played as a travelling roadshow, with intermission & everying. Sadly, this idea was axed and the film was drastically pruned back, with much footage being destroyed in the process. It would be nice to think that the version playing at Joliet prison will be the longer version that was released on DVD.

that's right. you can watch the Blues Brothers without going to hell, and you don't even have to do it through a hole in the sheet! -
I saw it when it was released..must have been 13 or 14 y/o but whatever..it rocked.
-
Well...fuck you.
-
and all he could talk about was how he was in the same prison that Joliet Jake had been! Damn I wish I could make it to this screening - kudos to those who do.
-
Unfortunately, I have no way to make it to this, and it is killing me inside.
-
I live for the day when they announce that they have finally discovered the footage of the band performing "Sink the Bismark" at Bob's Country Bunker.
-
So do we, but there's precious little chance of it ever turning up. The audio exists for it, but Universal junked much material during the 80s and the footage from The Blues Brothers fell victim to that purge.
-
Fuck Facebook.

Fix the cigarette lighter.
-
Because the Blue Brothers soundtrack is probably the biggest crime ever committed against a form of music. Great movie, lousy soundtrack.
-
...if there was a riot during the screening, though, Harry'd be as good as dead... or worse!
-
... But it ain't the early 90's anymore. Buck up and content yourself with this thought: At least you aren't New Orleans... or Detroit.
-
Why do you have to be so far away from Chicago???

One soiled..

So would love to go to this but alas, not the time nor the funds availbe!
As for Robocop, it should be screening in Dallas, hell you can obviously tell that it's not Detroit!
You can see Reunion Tower and Fountain Place visibly in multiple shots, both icons of the Dallas skyline! -
Much as I like the movie, it was the Apatow brand of its day: big laughs in individual scenes, but the final product left bloated without the aid of a strong editor.
-
got it for $500, dude said it had a blown trans. what it had was a missing drain plug in the tourque converter!14 qt. later i am on the inbound kennedy doing 130mph on a sun morning! The conservative adult community of Chicago is luring all those freeloading, slacker film fan kids to a screening of "The Blues Brothers" at Joliet Prison, after which they will slam the doors shut and keep them there. Get your mohawks and tatoos ready; it's going to be a post apocaylptic, "Road Warrior" style, survival of the fittest free-for-all once that door shuts!

had this showing about two years ago in grant park and it was great until it started raining. even then it was pretty fun. there is nothing like seeing this movie with a Chicago crowd, that's for sure. that being said, I'm not going to fucking Joilet to see this...
-
And I'm still agonizing to this day that I missed that one.
-
Will be in Disney World during the NYC and Hoboken screenings (would have definitely gone to both). Curse the Gods (and the Disney Princesses)!!!
-
It just occurred to me. So many of the iconic scenes in Star Wars, Empire and Jedi, were filmed in real, live locations that you can actually go and visit. You could have one of these roadshows in Tunisia or Finse, Norway or Redwoods National Park.
Where could you do one for the Prequels? Casserta Palace or Lake Como Italy perhaps, but who wants to sit at the location of the creepy "I hate sand" speech? -

. . . the free Rolling Roadshow screening of The Two Towers at Helm's Deep. My GOD I couldn't come close to possessing the same love of film some of you dorks have.
-
the prison is in a dangerous area of joliet. I work near there and have seen guys waving guns right next to that prison like it was no big deal. Unless there's a heavy police presence, no thanks.

You gotta be fucking kidding. The music in BB is one of the main draws for many of us. Especially now that James Brown, John Lee Hooker, Ray Charles, and Cab Calloway have left for the great gig in the sky, I treasure their performances here, especially on the extended cut where all performances are complete. Just looking for a rise, weren't you? Tell the truth...
-
Not at all. The soundtrack had three good performances. Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, and Cab Calloway. Brown was wasted in the gospel number and John Lee Hooker didn't even make the released soundtrack. The rest was Belushi and Akroyd hamming it with god awful renditions of classic songs. The soundtrack to the second movie was far better because it paid more attention to the original artists. Blues Brother = Great movie with a lousy soundtrack. Blue Brothers 2000 = Horrible movie with a great soundtrack. The music in the original Blue Brothers is in no way an accurate representation of the blues.

it gets better and better.
