The Avengers Assemble at Comic-Con! First look at the full line-up!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Right after the Thor panel (coverage coming very soon) Kevin Feige, Marvel movies head honcho, asked us if we wouldn’t mind staying a bit later, that he had something he wanted to run by us.
Lights go down and another video plays… it’s Sam Jackson’s voice narrating over a slowly illuminating symbol. Essentially he’s saying there will come a day when Earth’s mightiest heroes will be needed. On that day, we will meet… The Avengers.
Samuel L. Jackson is introduced and takes the stage!

Introduces right hand man, Agent Coulson (aka Clark Gregg). “My right hand woman…You know her as Black Widow… Scarlet Johansson! The God of Thunder Chris Hemsworth! The first Avenger, Captain America… Chris Evans!”
Tons of cheers. Then “You know him as Tony Stark… Robert Downey Jr.!” and the roof was blown off the place.

Downey takes the mic. “Don’t anybody stab anybody anywhere until I’m done talkin’!” referring to a stabbing incident in the hall earlier in the day. Vintage Downey. No shit. Someone got stabbed.

“I come before you a very humble man, strangely, this evening, to be in this most excellent company. I don’t mean to mention other movies, but did anybody see Inception? I think that was probably just about the most ambitious movie I’ve ever seen. Then I thought, ‘Wait a goddamn second! Marvel Studios is going to take all of their top superheroes and they’re going to put them all together in The Avengers? That’s the most ambitious movie I’ve ever seen!’”
Then Downey announced the official casting of both Clint Barton/Hawkeye and Bruce Banner/Hulk.
Jeremy Renner, playing Hawkeye, and Mark Ruffalo, playing Bruce Banner, took the stage… along with Joss Whedon.

And then the Avengers were assembled (click the first, longer pic for a bigger version):

The place went ballistic. Highlight of the Con, without a doubt.
More in-depth coverage of the Thor Panel, the Cap panel and some catch-up articles coming from me in the near future! Stay tuned!

I hope there's gonna be a Wasp in there somewhere! Anyway, love these pics and the experience. Wish I had been there.
-
Even the crappy looking pictures can't stop her HOTNESS!
-
Even the crappy looking pictures can't stop her HOTNESS!
-
That is all.
-
How the hell did he get this gig?
-
'tis a shame
-
She has a very good publicist. Average looking at best.
-
Looks like he stepped out of a 70's cop show in these pics. Pretty cool.
-
replicate and top this with the infaliable being known as Chris Nolan in "god father" position. jezz if they would only make batman smart again....I love ruffalo, he's nervous cause everyone misses Norton.
-
Saying that Scarlett is "average at best" is literally one of the stupidest things I've ever heard. Even if she's not your cup of tea, it's beyond ridiculous to deny that she is quite attractive. Now her acting skills...snipe away.
-
Good Lord this is going to get good! This is one war I am happy to be able to watch! Go Joss! Go Nolan!
-
and it's in the hands JOSS WHEDON! <p> LIFE'S COMPLETE!

hey, look its 12 uncomfortable actors on stage!!
by idrinkyourmilkshake
I DO wanna see this film, but these aren't exactly exciting.
-
It's ashame, he taints a pretty solid cast.

Let's not all get caught up in a bunch of actors onstage
by IndustryKiller!
It would be easy to lose sight, in a moment of hyperbolic nerdly optimism, of exactly how stacked the deck is against this film. Nortons out, Marvel are acting like a bunch of megalomaniacs, Iron Man 2 was terrible, some of these actors are questionable at best in their roles, and we already know from Iron Man 2 Jackson is just playing a bland version of himself and Johanssen is just plain bland. Oh and Joss Whedon is directing and if you liked the jokey dipshits he turned the X-Men into in Astonishing X-Men you just straight up have no idea how to interpret character.
-
...(Renner) may steal the show.
-
July 25, 2010, 12:14 a.m. CST
I love how Nolan keeps topping Downey, and Downey know it
by IndustryKiller!
Second time that Nolan has opened a superior film in the same summer as one of Downeys Iron Man film, and the second time Downey has taken a sort of shot at him for it. Even better, Batman 3 is going to open the same summer as Avengers, and is obviously going to be the vastly superior film. 0 and 3.
-
This also must put to rest the ant man conjecture, I know Nathan is there but it seems based on this family photo it was just fun and games. Or perhaps that is still a secret with wasp and the such...
-
Just saying..
-
...and ferfucksake Jackson, lose the beret! Whatever happened to the ice cold muvva who played Jules? Long gone.
-
ECA...I see it...the Hulk out might even be more intense with that element.
-
... anyways I'm sad about that Astonishing comment. I enjoyed the heck out of it. The pacing and action beats were fantastic and things actually felt like they were at stake. Definitely good stuff for a large summer superhero movie.
-
Nuff said!
-
i never thought this would happen. as for Mark, he's the best bruce i think we've had yet. i love ed norton but... thing is... he was cooler than the hulk. Mark i completely buy as smart and kind of wimpy. And i've liked Mark since You Can Count On Me.
-
it's all part of the fun. We all know the stuff stacked up against them..... On a side note, how nice would it be for them to include some aliens into this marvel universe already..Thanos.. Skrulls... now I may sleep :)
-
then yes Ruffalo's face looks more hulkish.
-
The final Ord story had some of the wonkiest most confusing pacing I've ever seen. as it was in the New Brotherhood of Evil Mutants (an lineup no writer should EVER use again) story. And again, he wrote the characters badly, in typical Whedon joke mode. With White Queen nothing more than a standard Sex In the City caricature you couldnt fathom what Scott SUmmers (who was as boringly stoic as ever under Whedon) ever saw in her and Wolverine more wise ass than bad ass. I'll give him Beast though, he wrote a good Beast.
-
when he went all goofy scared in the church in True Blood last season all i could think was 'this guy is a blond doppleganger for Jim Carey!! Go watch the episode and see for yourself! He is a total lanky goof!
-
The Danger ROom story was a great idea conceptually, and horribly executed. And what was with that terrible "Michael Bay Transformers" looking character design?? Sheesh. The less said about The Ord the better.
-
not to say that he isn't awesome, because he is awesome the true person to play thor was the guy who played the beowulf character in 13th Warrior but he's too old now
-
before transforming into the Hulk? Makes no sense.
-
I'm glad they made the change. I still long for Howard as Warmachine though. Speaking of which, where's Don Cheadle, isn't he going to be in this thing?
-
being so scared to put their Super Heroes together on screen. Why can't Clark Kent talk with Bruce Wayne like he did in one of The Dark Knight comic books? The book kept it's tone just fine whist still having the last son of Krypton making a cameo. Something like a film version of Kingdom Come would be amazing! No need to delve into everyones origin story. The story itself is good enough to keep people entertained. I don't know. I am looking forwards to seeing the Avengers. Beings that they will be the first super hero team up movie I hope they hit it out of the park!
-
It wasn't the first episode, but it was the first season. The name of the episode is "Somnambulist."
-
July 25, 2010, 12:37 a.m. CST
Ruffalo is great, but I've never seen him remotely angry.
by cinemixtape.com
It will be interesting, to say the least.
-
Salma Hayek as Tigra would have been nice. Or Emily Blunt as Scarlet Witch. Needs a superheroine on the team. Black Widow is just a chick with a gun. Still. Cool.
-
Only in your own little world will it end up being 0-3. The Avengers will own Batman 3. The Hulk kicking the shit out of the Hero's will visually top anything we'll see in Batman 3. Nolan can't shoot spectacular action sequences; largely due to the seriousness of his directorial style.

in seeing an 'Avengers' movie but will probably pay the $10 to see what's up out of curiosity and depending what the trailers show. I thought the first 'Iron Man' was great but the second was mediocre. Good points made by IndustryKiller!, especially about the superior 'Dark Knight' and 'Inception'.
-
Most would disagree with you but you have every right to your opinion. 'Iron Man' is a fun movie no doubt, but the 'Dark Knight' is superior. 'Avengers' and 'Batman 3' we will have to see.
-
Which doesn't necessarily make it true, but it does mean Im not in my own little world. I don't remember public outrage when Iron Man wasn't nominated for an Oscar. You may personally find Nolans style austere, but most found The Dark Knight to be an incredibly exciting film, I literally had no idea whatw as going ot happen next. It's firing on so many cylinders thematically and dramatically that the incredibly entertaining and well done Iron Man looks fairly by the numbers, especially given how weak it's third act is. I take it that aesthetic is just more what you prefer, and thats fine, Im not calling yous tupid or anything, I love Iron Man as well, but Dark Knight was a game changer.<P>Now, on the other hand, Iron Man 2 was a shambolic mess of a film that, while not Spider Man 3 franchise killer bad, didnt really succeed on any level.
-
How do you think people would react to Spider Woman? She was on the team for a bit. After all Marvel isn't getting Spiderman back from Sony probably ever!
-
Dont fuck this up.
-
Maybe even less. You can bet Marvel is expecting TDK number especially for an all-star cast!<p>Marvel better start gearing up for some disappointment now but thats something they should be use too!
-
A bunch of bland people
-
the only really well directed action scene in Iron Man was the Afghanistan showdown. The cave escape was a wonderful sequence, but more because it had been set up so beautifully with it's rich characters and because the suit looked so god damn awesome. And before you flip out I actually agree with you a bit on Nolan, he's bizarrely inconsistent when it comes to action. He's improved, but some of those shootouts in Inception where really poorly edited, others were just "show good guy shooting, cut to bad guy falling down", and then there were scenes where you had guys shooting at them from like 10 feet away with semi automatic machine guns and somehow not fucking hitting them. WTF?? But then you have the zero grav fight and its like "Where the hell did this BRILLIANT sequence come from?" So I'm not saying Nolan is always spot on with action, but he's amazing at giving little moments a TON of weight, and weaving an incredible plot while balancing a huge cast. And I would argue that the Dent Chase in The Dark Knight is an impeccably directed sequence that had more danger and thrills than anything I saw in Iron Man.
-
how much steam is the 'Avengers' going to lose if 'Thor' and 'Cap' fail to ignite at the box office? Thus far only the first 'Iron Man' was a colossal success...'Hulk' did well but not to their liking and IM2 while it did well did not excite the public as the first one did. 'Cap' and 'Thor' are really going to have to explode next year otherwise their going to pull the wind out of the sails of 'Avengers' which means they will either pull in IM millions or TDK billions.
-
The police report is that someone was "scratched near the eye by a pen" during an argument with a friend over seating-space issues.
-
You are friggin awesome but don't let it go to your head in this movie, its an ensemble cast, not IM3
-
Iron Man 2 was a rush job..and Favreau admitted that before they even started filming. It sure showed too.

The only guys missing are Superman, Bat Man, & Capt. Marvel!!
by JonChambers
-
Yyyyeeeaaaahhhh.....Thor, Hawkeye, AntMan, Nick Fury, hell until recently Iron Man wasn't a "top" hero so...maybe you meant top of the B or even C squad?
-
July 25, 2010, 1:27 a.m. CST
Nice pic, cautiously optimistic. The only way a JLA movie...
by Julius Dithers
can be more interesting that the Avengers movie goes like this: Superman vs. Batman vs. Aquaman vs. Green Lantern vs. Wonder Woman vs. Flash vs. Martian Manhunter. By virtue of being first, the Avengers will have covered the "let's assemble the big guns" thing covered. DC Entertainment will have to up the stakes. Give us bum wars with superheroes.
-
WINGS ON CAP.
-
The line up is ok, but Earth's Mightiest? Thor is the only one with real power and I know the Hulk is there and he certainly ain't no lightweight, but the Hulk is uncontrollable. Maybe it'll be Hulk with Banner in control. I don't know.

you're welcome, internet

They better put Wasp or Ms Marvel in this. Love to see Sersi but
by The Founder
I know that ain't happening
-
A woman in there. Not just Ninja McBetraysalot. Wasp? Ms. Marvel? I'm not picky.
-
I was worried the team lineup might be a little wack, and it is pretty wack. But the bigger problem is the lineup of talent, or lack thereof. I wanted some real heavy-hitter A-LIST talent like ROBERT DOWNEY JR. AND EDWARD NORTON. And we have Downey, and absolutely no one else of his caliber or even close. For people who only care about seeing costumes and CG effects, here's your movie. For people who care about the level of talent and about actual continuity within the universe, heh, yeah. No. You're fucked.
-
Of all the female Avengers I guess Wanda would be the best choice for a movie. Wasp is cool but I wouldn't call her powerful enough. Ms Marvel is cool but based on her powers and the budget her powers would be watered down. Wanda seems to be the best suited in terms of budget. Her power is cerebral and cost effective cause it,ll be fx based. Ahh hell I don't know but Black Widow just isn't impressive enough.
-
But we all know Batman is gonna kick all of their asses.
-

Got excited looking at the pic and then Joss reminded.....
by The Founder
Of how mediocre this is probably going to turn out. Jeez Marvel know they should've put together an awesome reactive team.

A-listers are sparse: RDJ, Samuel Jackson. Sir Anthony Hopkins and William Hurt are part of the Marvel Movieverse but who knows if the'll have anything to do with the Avengers Movie. Everyone else is so so. I am surprised that they didn't woo a big name A list guy for the role of Captain America. What a mixed bag. Here's hoping for the best.
-
Marvel can't seriously think they are going to make major bank with slightly above mediocre director and a screenwriter who wrote mediocre to bland superhero films. I just can't figure out what Marvel is thinking. No way is Avengers gonna rake in 400 mil plus.
-
July 25, 2010, 1:53 a.m. CST
They don't need all Alisters, the salary alone would be 100 mil

maybe they havent cast Wasp yet. Thats why she's not there

Those omissions are, IMO, unconscionable. It reminds me of what that puto said to Rutger Hauer at the beginning of "Blind Fury": "Joo got to have some salsa on joor burrito". No Vision and no Scarlet Witch = no salsa on this here burrito.

Honestly, it's way too early to predict Box Office
by liesandpicturesofalsolies
Anyone doing so has no basis in reality. It depends a lot on Thor and the Cap movie, what's playing that summer, and what's going on overseas. Still, fuck all the lame Box Office stuff. The fact is that Marvel is trying. They've gone for a director with geek cred (just because you don't like doesn't mean he doesn't have a voice) and gotten a talented cast. The element should give you pause is Zak "fucking" Penn, that guy has not written a good movie since PCU. Still, if you're not even intrigued at the possibility of this being good, I don't want to know about your crazy world.
-
need to show up for 2nd Avengers movie. before and during the Ultron fight. They joined a little later. Then save their unusual romance for the 3rd film!
-
I mean, I'm glad 70s era Harlan Ellison was able to make the scene (or is it Clint Eastwood from THE EIGER SANCTION?), but where's Downey?<p> His outfit has a soundtrack, by the way:<p> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v =X2_m4LYAcdI
-
He got a pass on Fantastic Four because he was funny but he is effin Cap now. Shape up soldier!
-
Would fuck these guys up.
-
All joking aside the guy has fucking incredible style and the moxie to pull it off.
-
Why you lookin' at me like dat ?
-
seriously, this dude playing Banner looks like crap.
-
I'm serious. I don't know if the general public really views The Avengers as a big deal. I'm still way more excited for Batman 3.
-
they are pretty accurately scaled to one another. with both chris's being the tallest. And both have blonde hair. <P> anyway, maybe on film, in costume, they will all look pretty bad assed.
-
2011 -- Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, Green Lantern, X-Men: First Class, PotC: On Stranger Tides <p> 2012 -- The Avengers, Batman III, Spider-Man: The ReWebbenning, Star Trek II, Superman: Man of Steel <p> Plus, I suppose, all the Harruh Pootles and the Twilabia incarnations, and whatever other sequels, reboots and re-imaginings I'm absolutely bound to be missing. <p> I have no further context to put this in; I just had to type them all out or my brain wouldn't really quite believe the brilliant / frightening / mostly frighting madness of it all.
-
Great ensemble cast. Hope Ant Man also makes it to the ranks.
-
Ruffalo & Renner are quality additions. Any news on the villain(s)?
-
He looks like Stephen King did in the 80s. Anyway, great lineup, this should be huge!! Though it would be even cooler with one more hot chick..
-
New Mutants movie, if he had got X-Men First Class, think he would be ok and maybe stretched a bit as a director, but he is out of his depth here.
-
He would make an excellent riddler and he wouldn't have to worry about Nolan completely overshadowing his movie for a change.
-
Will see how Avengers goes, and maybe its a chance. <br />Bats, Supes, Wonder Woman, Flash and Green Lantern would be huge. <br />Think they would add Hawkgirl to add another girl to the mix and maybe Martian Manhunter
-
Ruffalo's gonna be awesome, I think. Well, at least his hair is channeling Bill Bixby for me. Now again, all they need to do is actually paint some really tall bodybuilder green and WETA his height up to 7 or 8 feet. Please no more CGI Hulk.
-
Did he really say that?
-
Just to fuck with Downey and force him into retirement.
-
Watch Serenity. Watch JJ's Star Trekwars right afterwards. Realise Serenity is about 1000 times more natural, enjoyable and cinematically honed than Abrams effort.
-
This movie is gonna suck!! JOSH WHEADON ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!? The hell with the actors, at the end of the day it all falls on the director and who marvel has chosen is "pure crap". All this guy has done is write crappy comicbooks and create chick flick tv programs and directed a movie that looks like it could ve been on sci fi saturday night feature. I can imagine the movie now with its dawsons creek like dialogue and low budget looking tv style like action, also you know someones coming out of the closet cause that's what hes known for is his feminisation of characters. Alot of people are gonna say but he wrote comicbooks, remember frank miller "a great comic artist" everyone on this site was so excited for "the spirit" and we all know how that turned out, and also dont forget david goyers masterpiece "blade trinity" a masterpiece. For people comparing "batman 3" to "avengers" is like comparing a masterpiece to an incoming turd, SERIOUSLY!! Youre trying to compare a masterful director (nolan) to a hack who peddles junk to tweens (wheadon) are you high if you are I want some cause that is some strong $hit!!! Judging by the talent behind avengers itll be lucky if it pass the 200million mark.
-
He looks like Chairman Kage. Nah, just joking. I'm wondering whatthe Avengers avenge exactly, though. To be an Avenger, there must be something you're avenging.
-
I can see the egos of RDJ and SLJ telling Joss how certain scenes should run and how to give them the best angles!<p>Seriously do people think Norton was the only one with an ego?<p>If Joss was an establish director like Nolan or even Jon Favure than maybe they would listen to him but man we're talking about RDJ and SLJ here and a c-list director.<p>WTF, do you expect to happen?
-
LMFAO!!!!
-
That everyone is so worked up about Ruffalo to remember that he already played The Human Torch. Haha.
-
Just so we're clear, there's a legal reason Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver can't be in this: they're considered X-Men characters, and Fox currently still has the movie rights to them.
-
July 25, 2010, 5:22 a.m. CST
you can tell all the people not excited at this are DC fans
by spider_neil
the ambition of the avengers movie is incedible. they are taking the leads of several movies and putting them in one emsemble movie. that is incredible ambition and I for one applaud them for it. oh, I think batman 3 without ledger to carry it will be no where near as good as TDK, but we shall see.
-
Downey's on something? Rufalo looks lost? Feige and Whedon love puddings!
-
And I'm a Marvel fan. But we have two unproven leads, one who's been replaced (which already ruins the much-anticipated "all-star" draw), and a director who has more fanboy appeal than actual demonstrated talent (and if he gets his hands on the script, you can bet it'll be filled with "witty" overly cutesy dialogue). I'll probably be more excited if the Chrises can pull off their roles in their respective movies. For now, I'm hoping for the best and preparing for the worst.
-
This looks like a pie that just got stuffed!
-
I will have more faith if Norton was attached...least it would feel like an ensemble piece!
-
Imagine if RDJ and SLJ said Fuck it and left! Come on fellas, your all trained as actors...tear up those poxy contracts and fuck Feige in the ear!
-
Anyone doubting Ruffalo as Banner needs to watch COLLATERAL again, period.
-
Just coming off working for Scorsese and walking blindfolded into this unenchanted pube of a movie!!! Come On!
-
Come on serious actors...leave the dumbasses to try and hold this travesty together!
-
As Clint would say....the breathmint isn't making it!
-
and Whedon is the bitch that licks it!
-
LMFAO!!! ON FIRE!!!
-
Thor dude is one tall mother. Ruffallo acts as he were asleep all the time. The whole movie is on Downey shoulders. NO DIRECTOR (come on - Whedon? buehehe), NO EXCITING CAST and BLAND JACKSON!
-
Can't stress it enough. Cut Fury and Widow down to a 5min "this is your mission scene" and keep them out of the rest of the flick and make room for Pym and Van Dyne. <p>I'll also add that nobody would be more perfect for Pym than Alan Tudyk
-
So glad none of you nuffnuffs are making movies.
-
in each and every action sequence each and everyone from the cast will be replaced by cgi model and all these cgi figures will be fighting mechanical robots in space for the last 25-28 minutes of the movie. Norton saw that and said "Fuck all of you! That's not what Brad Pitt told me to do with my acting life during Fight Club filming! Hell NO!"
-
and say it to their faces. No? You'd rather hide in an AICN talkback and act like whiny little shits. I bet some of you are even the same person with multiple accounts, your desire to fling shit like a chimpanzee is so strong. Wankers.
-
and used as a weapon of mass destruction against South Korea!
-
with that face
-
... at AICN that SERENITY was great so why I am to lick these balls for $5 to have for cheese sandwich?"
-
ELI ROTH
-
Not drastically, but the guy looks too buff to be Banner. Still not confident about Wheadon fronting this.
-
Michael, at least it would be entertaining. But he wanted more than $10 for the job. Sorry.
-
after reading Avenger script and meeting with Joss Whedon. Nope, sorry - after meeting Whedon he marked his first suicide attempt.
-
Put lotsh of shex and violesch well isnhinit!
-
RDJ is doing it for the dollar (70% of his role will be in the Iron Suit) SLJ is doing it for the fans...just like he did for Mace Windu! Whedon's doing it cos' what fucka in Hollywood will give him a job... Gruffalo is doing it for the extra 2 for 1 and Fallafal R' Us
-
but all the kids would left the movie damaged!
-
I'm kidding.... kinda.
-
in the 3 for 1 bargain bucket at Kwik Save!
-
Wow... so many idiotic comments in so little space. At least it explains your political alignment. Why don't you go listen to a Palin speech and leave this talkback to those with intelligence. Whedon has talent and a respect for the source material. I can't wait to see where this goes.
-
He's just not weedy enough... While I'm not going to miss Norton too much, I'd definately been hoping for a scrawney replacement to be the alter ego of the Hulk.<P>But then again, they have miscast Captain America too, so it's a mixed bag at best.
-
....of Jackson as Nick Fury either...
-
The only ejaculated satisfaction will be the trailers in the beginning!
-
But seriously folks what is up with Downey's Nolan issues? I think he must suffer from "Nolan Envy." LMAO!!! PS Iron Man is a piece of shit. Inception and Dark Knight rule! PPS Who gives a shit about any of the Marvel flicks coming out when DC/Warner Bros has been mopping the floor with their asses with great work like the new animated Jonah Hex short, Batman Under The Red Hood, Dark Knight, Inception... And soon we will have Nolan's third Batman. The only other films I want to see this year are Tron Legacy (Disney) & Superman/Batman Apocalypse (The new Montgomery DTV effort for the WB). The rest of this shit is just filler. Its Nolan's world and we're just living in it.
-
S.W.A.T., 28 Weeks Later, and now Hawkeye?
-
The Warner Bros Spectre short included on the Justice League Crisis of 2 Earths disc is better than anything in Iron Man or any turd flicks Downey has been in recently (i.e. Tropic Thunder). I used to liked Downey as an actor but post Zodiac (his last solid performance) he has gone the way of Johnny Depp (and that isn't a compliment).
-
Instead we get a poor man's Billy Dee Williams 'YYYEEEEE HHHAAAA!'
-
WHY AM I STILL ALIVE?
-
WHY WAS I EVEN BORN?
-
BUT WHY WAS I BORN WITH THAT FACE?!
-
AND NO TALENT!
-
If the Avengers can come anywhere near to that, then they'll have a success on their hands.
-
WHY "MEDIOCRE" IS MOUNT EVEREST OF TALENT FOR ME WHICH I WILL NEVER ACHIVE?!
-
commentary about PREDATORS (the most dissapointing movie of all times!) sequel when he basicly exlplains why the movie looks like it does, like made in my backyard for my weekly pocket money when I was 12! Another talentless bitch!
-
Why put a KEV in the AVENGERS Credits at all?
-
film would be amazing, but Im not sold on Whedon yet. Though I do think he is very good at ensemble stuff, and he gets characters very well, but Im worried about his ability to do amazing action set pieces. That being said this really is Whedons chance to step into the big leauges, and play with the big boys (Cameron, Nolan, Jackson, Spielberg etc...) in terms of his exposure as a name to the mainstream, and to getting huge budgets to play with...
-
an insult, and I am really not bagging on Scott Pilgrim as I know fuckall about it, but something being the hot of SDCC means jack and shit mt friend, so too was Kick-ass a year ago, and that didnt exactly set the world b.o on fire (not to say this wont, but it wont have a damn thing to do with SDCC), fanboys just simply dont have the sheer numbers to make a movie a "smash hit", without the mainstrean dialing into what you re selling, it aint gonna happen...
-
but age, hair color against him. Physique, attitude and swagger with him. Could see him hitting the Widow like in the comics. This Hawkeye seems boring. Rewatch Escape from NY and you'll realize that Russell could do either role as Fury or Hawkeye. Agree with you better Fury than Jackson. The novelty has worn off.
-
After Eric Bana and Ed Norton, this is a MAJOR downgrade.
-
the guy who is going to be the villian in the movie appear near the curtains. Announce his name, the charactes name, and have him just stand there. Then leave. Nothing more.
-
didn't viral marketers used to get banned around here? because that is pretty much what you are doing.
-
Wdedonite), besides as others have pointed out, youre not going to get any big name director to do the Marvel films with the lowball approach they re useing, so they have to rely on taking chances with talented directors with unproven b.o track records, or with action/fx films. Obviously this approach can really work (Favs or Raimi) or it can really fail (Ang Lee).Only time will tell if Whedon pulss this off, but Firefly/Serenity was pretty good, and more importantly, well written, so lets see what the dude can do...
-
I don't care if your fetish runs to Chocolate BBWs...if you don't think, "Hmmm..I bet her Pink is as velvety as her tits are succulent" when looking at Scarlett you are officially fucking dead.
-
I play games..I'm into the whole sci-fi,monster,action movie genre and I have NO FUCKING CLUE what Scott Pilgrim is other than an EMO targeted comic book...nor why should I care.
-
Dude, you got me. lol I now remember my reaction reading the Danger Room and the idea of it was very interesting but that design was godawful and the Ord just wasn't memorable. Even with those negatives you mentioned about Astonishing as a series I still loved it as the whole was greater than the sum of its parts. The best thing we can all assume is that they're getting an already established villain for the Avengers instead of going with an original and I do hope Mr. Whedon has picked up a thing or two since...Oh, and I liked his Cyclops, I wonder if they'll be any similarities between his character and Cap America's..... I'd love to hear who people think should score this baby. That is one area that these marvel flicks are lacking. I'd love a great Avengers theme! How crazy would it be if Clint Mansell would get this gig!? Scorekeeper should weigh in his thoughts.
-
Thats a good sign, him towering over the cast.
-
is the same problem with any other director... This is a big fricking movie...Anyways, back to the score.
-
when I saw Chris Evans in the pic.

a homophobic boy who yearns after Michael Cera while hating himself?

I have to agree that what the geek was doing at Comic-Con! LOL
-
playing Cap, I guess there's no way they will bring the Fantastic Four into the mix? Maybe those movies are best left forgotten.
-
This will be where comic book movies finally jump the shark. It has to happen some time. They're basically putting all their eggs into one basket with this one. People will be hoping to get their minds blown by seeing all the superheroes together in one movie. Then when it's not one of the best movies ever made (chances are stacked against that), people will shrug and be ready to move onto other genres. They won't feel the need to see any of these heroes individually again. And that feeling will start to carry over to the other superhero franchises as well. We've already got the epic single-hero movies, and we've got the genre-deconstruction movies like Watchmen and Kick-ass, and with this we'll officially have the "throw everything you've got at it" movie. That completes the box around the genre. And after it, many fans and critics will be saying "so that's the most you can do with superheroes." And while other superhero movies will still be made, the mystery and excitement of them will have past their peak and be on their way back down. You heard it first here.
-
He's an ass, but.... That 'Vintage Downey' rant is very good. I don't know why people find RDJ so funny.
-
Looks like a porno for the Whedonites! This film will suck shaved balls!
-
I do understand how you nerds need everything to be just like the comic, BUT if they're going to make a believable WW2 movie, then Evans' is going to look pretty fucking stupid with "Prince Charming" hair. Shaved is much more believable.
-
Interesting. Nolan beats Whedon as a writer/director, hands down. Batman 3 will look better too. It's all going to come down to villains at the end of the day. Avengers already has 8 big characters. That's a stretch for any movie.
-
We know who will be the bitch in this match-up and it's not the dark, brooding guy in the cape.
-
Given Whedon and Penn's body of work and the mountain of issues to contend with, the odds aren't great that this will be something awesome but I'm still hopeful. And I like the (potential of the) cast. To be fair though it's hard to imagine even the most talented director/writers pulling this off successfully. <BR><BR> No pressure fellas...
-
and considering the directors, that's a possibility, that would suck for whedon. poor guy always gets shafted.
-
You seem so certain how bad something is going to be before the script has even been finished. That's amazing. Is it wrong to be excited by the possibility that this presents? Or has the disspointment of the Star Wars preuels forever colored everyone's view of film forever more? (As Mr Plinkett said, "after you walked out of episode II you learned never to trust your judgement or anyone ever again"). And comparing Whedon's comic writing skills to his directing skills is apples and oranges. Directing a movie is vastly different. Serenity is a great example of his capability and I think that was well done (especially for me as I never watched or cared to see Firefly). And I'm not sure that people have the know-how to distinguish a "good actor" from a "bad actor". They confuse the acting with a character who is badly written. Even RDJ has come off pretty badly in some of his earlier movies. So again all this overly negative or overly positive speculation is a waste of time. But that's just me. I won't impinge on others feelings of self worth if that's how they get their jollies. Now if you'll excuse me I have to go find the Cowboys and Aliens TB cause that is going to suck! Kidding. It's gonna be super awesome. Or not!

It is kinda weird knowing even against The Avengers...
by HollywoodHellraiser
Bats will still own the box office and by alot too!<p>I'm willing to bet Nolan doesn't give a shit what Marvel does! He knows that planning and execution is the key and meanwhile he's sipping long islands and chiling!
-
You want an Avengers movie...with pure heroes...go see the EXPENDABLES! Now that's a cast!
-
While I love the guy, he's fucking 60 years old. You guys get all whiney-bitchy in "Expandables" talkbacks about the geriatric hero crew, but then it's OK for Russell to be in this?? WTF, make up your minds--those of you who actually have them. And while we're at it, I see three Oscar nominees and a Tony award winner in that cast-mediocre talent? WTF are you guys smoking? I swear, some people just love to complain becuase they think it makes them seem just SOO cool. It doesn't. It just makes you sound like whiners.
-
without the joker nolan is going to make another batman begins.
-
...and at the end of the day..you can't teach Whedon to suck eggs...but you can teach him to suck cock...Feige is deluded with such a shoddy cast...the brits think AVENGERS is a joke!
-
looking at that shot of the whole group, he's the only one who I can buy leading a squad of superheros because he is so physically imposing, Evans just isn't doing it for me
-
would have loved to have him in the role back in his heyday. Should have clarified. Sorry.

I think he's absolutely the perfect choice to direct this film. I trust him to find the right kind of dynamic between these disparate personalities. The Avengers are in good hands.
-
The Avengers are in the worst wank hands possible...
-
Hercules, and the black female Captain Marvel. Do it.
-
Renner and Ruffalo are going to be the best actors in the movie, no one really comes close, they will stand out the most in the Avengers film.
-
They did it for us, Marvel fans all over the world. Thanks for the effort. Now, see ya at the theaters in two years. Cheers!
-
Straight to TV!

We east-coasters are ready for good quality promos for Walking Dead, Thor, and Cap!<P> quit bein' stingy!
-
...but we all have suckas for muthas if we line up at the box office for this shite!

I'm guessing Feige tacked this onto the end of the Thor panel so there'd be no opportunity to voice their displeasure at Marvel's "firing" tactics. Good thing that the representatives from the movie websites have enough integrity to not just pretend it didn't hap-- oh wait.

Darn, Marvel sure cut some corners with the movie.
by BurnedNotice_Dude
-
To the people who complain about Zack Penn. Whedon seems to be writing the entire film. Penn appears to be off the project. And you guys think Joss isn't a competent director??? Serenity is not only a good film creatively it is also fantastic technically. Episodes of Buffy like The Body, Once More with Feeling, and Hush are all great examples of his talent. Has he done anything at this magnitude? No, but no neither have Jon Favreau or Kenneth Branagh. Joss has shown he can work with ensembles. There should really be no worried about this other than the usual "Good things never happen to us so somehow this will all fuck up".
-
"For people who care about the level of talent and about actual continuity within the universe, heh, yeah. No. You're fucked." <P> I agree...what a lifeless & shitty moment. I like Mark Ruffalo, he's excellent but let's face it - he's taking over for Ed Norton and the circumstances are 100% bullshit. Ed hasn't passed away suddenly or just backed out of the movie - on the contrary he was pumped and ready to go. However because someone at Marvel would rather hold a grudge, pinch pennies or is incapable of simply working things out like an adult Norton and his fans ended up fucked over. <P>The dark cloud cast over this movie by Marvel has dissolved all of my interest in this once highly anticipated project. Marvel fucked over Ed and way too many other talented people and most importantly us fans.<P>For me to blindly continue supporting whatever the fuck they feel like giving to us is ridiculous. <P>Fuck marvel and fuck their Avengers movie.
-
writing credit on this than you fucking lost it!<p>Joss might write something but this is Marvel movie, not Joss!<p>Joss better hope he can actually make it to the starting date before Marvel decides to fire someone else or "change" their minds!
-
featuring the original marvel heroes on a NYC rooftop. The original x-men, Thor with a long handled hammer, Thing as he looked then. Included in the poster are the original marvel villains:Doom in his original armor, Skull in a green jump suit, Goblin looking really scary. And the enchantress looking like a dead ringer of Scarlett. Worth buying, its title is heroes&villains masterpiece. Look it up on the web and should be able to find it.
-
Sure, he did good work on tv. Buffy was his baby. Great show. But even he faltered with it. Season 7 was terrible. As for Angel he pretty much let others be the showrunner. Firefly was alright. Dollhouse was..well..er..uh.. won't discuss that. <p> Yeah. I think he is a wonderful television director. Some good stuff. Just not a movie director. He should stick to television. Look at James Burrows. The man is constantly directing tv comedies yet you don't see him going for the big screen for a romantic comedy. Serenity looks like something that was made for television.<p> Too bad. I thought the Avengers could have been a good movie.
-
He has a nice resume....but he's already shown he doesn't have the testicular fortitude to stand up to Marvel.<P> How do you let the studio fuck with your all-star cast and jerk over fans and not say word one about it? <P>Fuck him too. Hollywood (much like most jobs) is full of pussies just watching out for their own ass and their own paychecks.
-
He is already in character!!! Wow I really like this guy!!!

by HollywoodHellraiser
But I wouldn't doubt if its RDJ though!<p>Sad thing is Marvel will back them quicker than Joss because the actors has been bought and paid for!<p>Good luck Joss! Good fucking luck!
-
since RDJ knows he alone must carry this movie.<p>What's up with RDJ bringing up Chris Nolan? Perhaps, he would rather work with Nolan and his Batman3 cast than The Avengers one.
-
That is all. Oh, and will The Watcher show up?
-
By all accounts, Norton acted like a primadonna on set of "The Incredible Hulk", and demanded to re-write scenes, etc. Personally, I think he probably saved that film from being worse than it could have been. I guess that kind of behavior isn't tolerated when the movie underperforms. But yeah, he should've been allowed to come back, and he would have made a great villain/character arc in "The Avengers".
-
Someone asked about him in the Q&A and a report said they quoted Norton's response saying the character was bigger than any actor or something. Fans booed. Sounded awesome.
-
I loved how he looked in IH, if they change him once again to look like jeff Ruffalo i'll shit my pants in fan anger

the character was bigger than any actor or something. Fans booed
by fat_rancor_keeper
lol - that's awesome. While it may be true that the character is bigger than any actor simply regurgitating Norton's comment as their defense almost demeans the actors currently putting in work. <P>Why not repeat Feige's original insulting & passive aggressive comment about needing an actor passionate for the role and able to work in an ensemble cast??? <P>Oh - because it was twat-like thing to say to begin with.
-
and hard-on Scarlett ... and borind Jackson
-
They should have exactly ONE Hulk fight, when they find Banner and bring him in, after that he needs to be on board and they need to move on to a real villain. Sure they should deal with his unpredictability in future struggles but I dont want to see a movie made entirely of Hulk fights. How can you people not see how inherently uninteresting and one dimensional that is. Hulk poses nothing but a physical threat, there no intellectual fight there. No deeper subtext. Just big guy trying to smash little guys. THat's a cool sequence, but you can't build a film on it.
-
the pseudo-crappy-we-will-convert-it-greatly 3D. So when they unleash the CGI masturbatory experience probably near the end of the movie, we will get all the cgi superheroes waving their super cgi penises in fron of our noses and poking us in eyes. I don't mind Scarlett.
-
No Norton, no play
-
From what I understand there was no "prima donna" behavior going on during the Hulk shoot. I don't know why people hear the word "difficult" and automatically make up all these insane stories in their heads, but that just makes Marvel's job easier. Norton got along fine with Leterrier and was ASKED to take a pass at the script before production began; the conflict between him and Marvel arose when it came time to edit the film and they got rid of some twenty minutes of dialogue that he wrote, and Zak Penn demanded sole screenwriting credit from the WGA. Even though final cut was not one of the things Marvel promised Norton in the contract, he was pissed off (understandably) and refused to do as much promotion for the film as they had hoped (less understandably). Several people who have worked with Norton in the past have implied he's difficult to work with at times, but "prima donna behavior" sounds like someone who throws temper tantrums, locks themselves in their trailer and asks for all green M&M's, which just isn't the case here, unless you know something I don't.

-
Do people just not understand English? No matter how many times you explain to people that rewrites were IN NORTONS CONTRAC, they never seem to care to understand and contimue to make it sound like Norton burst into Feiges office with a gun and demanded a script polish. Has Norotn been difficult int eh past? Sure, just like plenty of other great actors, THATS HOW ART GETS MADE, but in this case its a well documented fact that Marvel screwed him.
-
I agree with everything you said. <P>What you stated makes perfect sense and was presented in a clear and respectful manner....thus every single one of your points will be ignored by typical Norton hating TB'ers.
-
Make no mistake, I'm excited as HELL about the Avengers, but... this casting decision makes no sense to me. Mark Ruffalo doesn't look ANYTHING like Bruce Banner. I just don't get it. Ah, fuck it, I'm so THERE on opening day! AVENGERRRRRRRRS ASSEMMMMMMM... BLLLLLLLLLLE!

Looks lost in the woods, Chris Evans looks like a little boy and Chris Hemsworth looks like he can't be arsed. I can't help feeling that instead of Hawkeye we could have had Giant Man (Ant Man) and Wasp OR Miss Marvel. Or even Tigress, the team needs more female members cause frankly this is (as someone said) looking like the opening to a gangbang.
-
Every Ultimate thing he has touched has turned to shit. Hopefully he'll be too busy with the TV stuff to muck this one up any further. Plot is still secret, but since Cap suddenly has ties to Thor thanks to the sneak peek they gave, is there an Asgardian foe they could team up to fight after they fight the Hulk? Loki? Giants?

Now as long as ScarJo doesn't fuck this up, they got a movie.

First time seeing it. Never saw Firefly. 10 minutes in, opening credits just started up, and I'm ready to turn off this acted-shot-scripted-for-TV bullshit. Monochromatic blue cinematography, go away! Bland sets, go away! Ugh, fast forward to an action sequence. Ok, being chased by Reavers in a flying craft on a planet. Not displeasing, but nothing to write home about either. Fast forward to big space battle. Looks like every 3D animation project I saw attempted in college involving giant spaceships. Nothing original here. I know I'm sounding predisposed to hate Serenity, but I'm calling it as I see it. Don't try to convince me that actually sitting through the whole thing will enhance my appreciation for it either. There is TV, and there are movies. This is not a movie!<p>I'm as excited as any Marvel fan to see Avengers, but color me gravely concerned with Whedon at the helm of this project. From what I've seen just now, Joss has leaps and bounds to make as a cinematic director. Ang Lee's Hulk, love it or hate it, had great cinematic quality, including a riveting set piece with brilliantly composed action. I'm not saying hire Ang Lee for Avengers, I'm just pointing out that Whedon has no cinematic eye. God, now I'm just getting depressed. Whedon, step up your game, man. This is your Everest!
-
WTF is wrong with marvel? Why would you hire directors who has less experience than directors of your previous and perspective franchises (i.e. Spiderman and the Avengers). Youre expecting something good to come from this. The new spiderman director only credit include 1 crappy romance movie compared to sam raimis long resume, SERIOUSLY!!! JOSS WHEADON whose a crappy tv director who relies heavily on overly witty pop culture references, with his 90210 like dialogue and crappy scifi channel movie of the week like directing. You guys must be high, who the hells running marvel willie nelson.
-
Yeah Shadow of the Bat will be better and do more box office but that's no reason why this can't be awesome. And if it is, we'll get JLA for sure! Please work, please work, please work...
-
I am actually hoping you are some kind of plant now. Heaven help the people around you if you are not.
-
"I know I'm sounding predisposed to hate Serenity, but I'm calling it as I see it." <br> <br> Well, since the cinematographer of that "shot-for-TV-bullshit" you're referring to was Oscar-winner Jack Green, yes, yes you are. Not that I don't have my own reservations about Whedon, but a little objectivity couldn't hurt.
-
First that is just your opinion - and second what's your point anyway? <P> How about the fact that this is the 3rd recast of Bruce Banner in under a decade? <P> How about the fact that continuity has been tossed out the window?<P> How about the fact that Mark is just as likely to be recast as well as someone else from the team?<P> Would it be cool if another actor arguably "better" than RDJ were to replace him? Denzel Washington for example is better than SLJ in many respects - why not recast him as Nick Fury?
-

Watching the Hulk on Screen is better than seeing Clowns.
by ganymede3010
You ask how can we take an entire movie with the Hulk as the antagonist? The same way we took a movie that showed corny villains with clown painted faces in every action scene. The Hulk is to formidable to taken out in one single encounter. I suspect many failures to apprehend him will be the focus of the story, thus the need to assemble a super-team to reign him under control. Besides, I'm sure the 3rd act of the movie won't involve them taking down the Hulk. Probably some other villain, or minions that Loki sends to fight the Avengers, by then, Hulk should be one of them, fighting along side of them, perfectly setting up the sequel.
-
C'mon Marvel do it. <P>Denzels' the right age and is a better actor than Sam Jackson. Plus SLG wasn't really in the last 2 IM movies that much anyway. <P>Also Nick Fury is a bigger character than any actor.
-
He aint got nothing else to do ...
-
Each of thsoe encounters, even if they use different strategies, will just involve taking on a giant melee centered beast. You talk about the ridiculousness of The Joker, but what makes him great is that he poses a greater intellectual threat to Batman than physical. Hulk poses no such threat. It's exclusively physical, every. single. time. Nor is Hulk a world threat. It should be someone like The Skrulls or, and this is my inner fanboy talking, Kang.
-
...however, with Dollhouse, he forgot to give us a hero to cheer for. I think for a time, he was stuck in a phase with that series, where he put art over commerce, however, the smart artist knows that if you can blend the two, and find a balance, you win, and those whom you serve, your bosses, win. Dollhouse failed to be a commercial success because its main character, Echo, didn't have a voice in her circumstances to decide her present and future, or to judge her past, until it was too late for the show? She had no enemy to fight against, no villain for the audience to say, "Hey, that is the bad guy, watch-out Echo!" Further, along those lines, there was no enemy to measure herself, and heroics, if any, against? No, everyone was in a grey area...as per their motives, and reasons for being, and that robbed the show of tension, and rich chances at character development for the ultimate heroes, and villains of the show when they finally did emerge, the show paid for it, as a result--because instead of building an audience with a good vs. evil conflict, and a love story, from the start (the stuff of watercooler banter, for the public to spread the word about the show), we got a mentally impaired Echo, in-between her engagements--she had no conscious will of her own, for nearly two seasons of the show? The structure of the series was flawed from the very beginning, and that killed it. <BR><BR>Whedon should have opened the series with an Echo who was awakening, someone who knew her circumstances, and was silently plotting to free herself and others from their place in this mental slavery ring. <BR><BR>Hopefully, he has learned his lesson, and will not out clever himself with The Avengers, as he did with Dollhouse. I think the structure of Avengers will lend itself to a more poppy and open story, one that moves fast, like Serenity did, a film that is full of great writing, directing, intellect, and emotion. Whedon can write to that dynamic, as he knows how to build tension, and smart twists in plot, and warmth between characters. Dollhouse was a situation where he got overwhelmed with plot, and high-concept, and seemingly forgot about the human element, and became more intrigued by the concept, over character advancement/development, chiefly, with respect to his lead character who was to be the soul and heart of the series--but was emotionally and mentally absent until the final handful of episodes? As a Whedon fan, I still don't know how that happened other than, there where too many cooks in the kitchen. You see, I think that Whedon tried to make Echo his ultimate mystery, ala the island in Lost, or the mysteries surrounding the destination in the new Galactica, and that was his biggest mistake. You see, Echo shouldn't have been the mystery, no, it is the Dollhouse, and the people who created it, that should have been the mystery. Echo should have been our, the audiences, eyes and ears, our entry point character into that world, and the mystery that was hidden within, and without it.<BR><BR>If Whedon makes The Avengers, fast moving, and gets to the central plot points...hard and fast, in service of entertainment, then he will deliver the popcorn film hit (blockbuster)...that Marvel, and the fans, are looking for. Somewhere in there, will be found the opportunity to inject smart dialogue and a smart point of view, in service of art.
-
This movie is gonna suck
-
Daredevil. That sucked.
-
if you had told me this was happening when I was a kid in the 80s would have never believed it. mainly becuase the avengers always seemed second-rate in comparison to the X-Men or Fantastic Four. To me, the Avengers included Cap and Hawkeye, but also Vision and Scarlett Witch and Ant Man. The formula they are concocting died out in the late 60s because it didn't work. Now nostalgic revisionism says differently, pinning success on every team in every decade of their runs. Basically, they sould've included the Vision but perhaps we'll see him in subsequent stories. Also, how did they get Mark Ruffalo? He's a great actor, either he's desperate or they had a lot of ca$h. He presence raises the quality level of the movie. Hopefully, he might do his own Hulk movie.
-
Why are there so many fucking trolls on here lately? Geez. Anywho, this movie is going to rule all super hero movies, period. If those pictures don't excite you in the slightest bit, you're an idiot. A complete retard. And you shouldn't be allowed to post on a talkback for said movie anymore.
-
Who gives a fuck about Louis Leterrier's Incredible Hulk and its cast? Not me and certainly not the majority of the viewing public. It was mediocre crap and it is viewed that way today. Clean slate the Hulk.
-

Bottom line, poor lil Norton couldn't make the movie better
by reflecto
Not this one, and not the crappy one he made. Get over it.
-
Admittedly, I should be more objective concerning the cinematography. I was watching it on a TV screen, and a non-HD one at that. I just don't like monochromatic blue. Regardless, the fact that Jack Green is an Oscar-winner doesn't change the fact that what I watched felt like TV, and not a movie. The new Doctor Who is gorgeously shot, but still views as TV, not a movie. I guess the point I was trying to make is you can't bring a TV mindset to a movie set. That's where my concern lies with Whedon as a movie director.
-
There's nothing to "get over" as I'm just speaking my mind. No lost sleep on my part. <P>Since I could give a fuck less about this shitty Avengers film I may as well talk about something that's related to it. <P> For the record, plenty of people liked the IH and Norton's protrayal. It's cool if you didn't like it or don't care either way.
-
Adrian Brody being cast as Ant-Man?
-
The bottom line is that IH was not a very good movie and most of the world knows it. Ed Norton did not help it. Nothing helped it. It was a few mil away from SyFy original programming. <p> You are taking this shitty little movie so personally that you are taking it out on Avengers. That's your prerogative, but don't blame me if you're called out for illogical bias in the future as the run-up to the film begins.
-
...did something I say ruin your Avengers party? <P> "don't blame me if you're called out for illogical bias in the future as the run-up to the film begins.<P> Don't blame you, lol? I have no clue or care who you are. Near as I can tell you are just another internet cunt with low standards waiting in line for whatever Marvel and Hollywood sees fit to shove down your throat. You don't like what I have to say? Too bad ignore it and go about your way.
-
I don't know why he has to continually bring up Nolan, it obviously bothers him that Nolan's TDK and now INCEPTION have outshined his two IRON MAN flicks as the event films of the summer. Too bad, as I like Downey and both IM flicks. But he needs to stop mentioning it. What's he gonna say in 2012 when BATMAN 3 ends up being better than THE AVENGERS?
-
I see industrykiller made the same points as me much earlier in the thread. Anyway, I'm looking forward to THE AVENGERS and the other Marvel flicks even if Downey and the Marvel guys have a chip on their shoulder about Nolan.
-
Mark Ruffalo? I like him, but Norton should have never been replaced. Fuck this shit. And what's with RDJ's constant flaming of Nolan? Did Nolan fuck his dog or something? Seems like he can't get over the fact that THE DARK KNIGHT made IRON MAN it's little bitch 2 years ago. And yeah, I love RDJ and IRON MAN, but he's still butt-hurt. You won't find Nolan playing this bullshit. That man's a class act.

"it obviously bothers him that Nolan's TDK and now INCEPTION have outshined his two IRON MAN flicks as the event films of the summer."<P> I totally agree...RDJ is awesome but he definitely has a huge ego. For me IM1 was cool...but IM2 flat out sucked. I wish I could get my money back for that one. But however you want it look at it Nolan's Batman Begins & Dark Knight were better films than either IM flick. Inception I don't know if I'd consider b/c it's an unfair comparison to a superhero movie.
-
here are some reasons as to why.... the fans dont like the tv show they think clunky and any studio who says lets make a remake of the tv show will incur the wrath of the fans who dont like it. so the studios didnt go the tv route. so they said lets make a film where bruce's dad created the hulk. guess what the fans hated that. so the studio said what to do. we will remake the film from scratch and we will put the leader into and the abomination into the mix. but again the fans didnt like and universal thought the film underperformed and put the franchise on ice. but then there is the avengers movie. the hulk gets recast again, norton has his fans and they are pissed off. marvel wanted an actor who would toe the line. and a director who would call all the shots.
-
You may be correct about AVENGERS being the end of the comic book movire. It either has the potential to be an amazing epic, or it could be the last hurrah. Kinda like Universal throwing all of their characters together in the Monster Rallies HOUSE OF FRANKENSTEIN and HOUSE OF DRACULA. Both were fun flicks and did good business, but they cheapened the brand considerably and ended the second horror cycle. The only thing left were parodies like ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN, which turned out to be better than the "serious" horror films that ended the cycle. If AVENGERS is a joke, maybe we'll get BEN AND JERRY STILLER MEET THE HULK, co-starring Cap, Thor and Iron Man(without Downey, who will have bolted at this point).
-
A Daredevil reboot is a pretty cool idea, actually. I'm surprised Lord Nolan didn't jump at a crack at ol' hornhead rather than Superman.

Most of the world? Really? Most of the WORLD?!?!? You're gonna go with that, huh? You're obviously insane on top of being an idiot. And talk about bias! Damn.

If we could just have a fucking moratorium on sucking Whedon's cock for five fucking minutes around this place, it would be a motherfucking biblical fucking miracle. The kind of shit that they write about and put into fucking clay jars for future generations to discover in fucking caves. That kind of fucking miracle.<p>But it's like some sort of fucking mental disorder with these fucking loons. JCD - Joss Compulsion Disorder, a disease that requires one to constantly bring up Joss Whedon, a decent director and good writer, and tout him as the GREATEST DIRECTOR EVAH and the BEST WRITER IN DA HIST'RY OF DA WORLD!!! I'm starting to see you motherfuckers in the same light as those sad, sad, sad fucks on "Hoarders" and "Intervention."

and he has shown that he can do an ensemble pieces both on tv and in the movies. this site loved buffy and angel. and firefly. the first two hulk movies were not ensemble movies and only required a lead actor. norton and bana were getting movies to sell overseas. people knew who they were.
-
Inception hasn't outshone Iron Man 2 at all. People seem confused by Inception, but they said they enjoyed Iron Man 2. And Iron Man 2 did stellar box office, and we don't know if there will even be an Iron Man 3, so get off your Nolan high horse for a minute.
-
Ironman 2 was rushed out S H I T....pure and simple. The story was a bore, the pacing was way off, the action was either non-existent or a noisy incoherent mess and Cheedle ended up being a bad choice after all. It had cool moments here and there but that's about it. Nothing about IM2 left me looking forward to Avengers and that was while I still thought Norton was on board. If you would have read what I wrote more carefully I said I wouldn't even compare Inception to any superhero film b/c it doesn't seem fair. It's like apples and oranges.<P> @ The Bicycle Sharer - I totally agree that asshole with his hyperbole and "most of the world knows it" trollish bullshit is just a bitter twat.

Norton was never on board Avengers. Where the hell did you hear that?

...are you drunk? I'm referring to the period of time where it was thought he might still be on board before the news broke that he was definitely out.

I hope they make Hot Wheels from these movies so I can look for them every day and then sell them to my fellow Mexican friends.

besides RDJ, and I don't care. Close your eyes and just imagine what Norton and RDJ together in this flick would've been like. It's like putting DiCaprio and Depp in the cast of G.I. Joe for an "ensemble cast". Get the fuck out of here. I've been looking forward to this movie my whole life and there's a bunch of little kids next to Downey. Who is Iron Man gonna respect? Baby Cap? How will audiences believe this? Banner isn't supposed to look like the Hulk by the way, you dumb studio fucks; Ruffalo looks like he should be serving me gyros not working in a lab. Oh, and fuck Joss Whedon a million miles away from this film. He's directing because his mind is a wrinkled and dead teenage girl... fucking teenybopper; the studio thinks they can catch all the 13 year olds with this prick. This movie deserves a fucking SPIELBERG. This is one of the greatest institutions in an entire ART FORM NOT A FUCKING EPISODE OF BUFFY YOU CUNTS!!! I will have my complete verdict after I see Thor. It better be fucking Jesus Christ doing trapeze work, though this still won't prevent Gloss Wheezin' from getting his buttshots in later on. Fucking faggots. RDJ and Norton forever, (fuck.. Branagh should have BEEN Thor)...ARRRRRGHGHHH

You suck. Seriously. Nothing but anger from you. It turns me on. Spank me daddy.
-
Yeah, it has. It's second weekend has around a 30% drop, which means excellent legs and great word of mouth. IM2 had big drops in both weekday grosses and subsequent weekends. INCEPTION will probably end up outgrossing IM2 even though it had a much smaller opening weekend.
-
Even though I think Leonardo is super dreamy hot, I still like Iron Man 2 better because of WarMachine. Much like a Twinkie, I really enjoyed who filled the suit. . immensely.

Lol, where did you get those figures? Iron Man 2 made 600 worldWIDE and it's in dollar theaters now. Inception passed 100 mil in a week, that's struggling to me.

And it pains me to admit that. It was nowhere near as good as the first one. Maybe it was rushed, maybe they just got lazy, but it just didnt work and it made me wary about future Marvel Movies. I expect Thor to be awesome,Captain America to be crap, and The Avengers to be...OK. We shall see....

I'm sure Inception will be discussed, but people will be more interested in talking about Dark Knight, because TDK made more of an impact on film.

What was the big deal about inception. It was a typical outside-inside chase film. Characters go to a sleep state and enter said inside (alternate) world where they are pursued by an organized threat. They can escape this alternate world by waking up. Wasn't this in Avatar and the Matrix.
-
matrix went really bad after part 1 and avatar while fun had many issues.
-
If there is one wild card DC has in this, it is how they end the JLA movie someday. And it has the potential to top anything that Marvel would put out there, including the Avengers.
-
Am I really going to have to listen to your juvenile, barely literate ranting until this movie comes out? Here, I've got an idea that'll save us all a lot of grief. Just shut your moronic, know-nothing pie holes the fuck up now. It's a win-win for all of us.

Um...ok. Let's see. IM2 is a the sequel to a giant hit from two years ago. It was expected to break the record on it's opening weekend, and outgross the original film. What happened? It opened to 128 million dollars, which is great, but nowhere near the record. It had terrible legs, and word of mouth was just ok. It had a second weekend drop off of 60%. It struggled to reach 300 million dollars, and has grossed less money than the first film, even with adjusted ticket prices(and the second film opened on IMAX scrrens throughout the country with the higher ticket price). INCEPTION opened at 62.5 million dollars. This was for a film that is complicated and has no appeal to children. It had tremendous weekday grosses, and now has a second weekend of 43.5 million. It's second weekend drop off was only 30%, which means the word of mouth is tremendous. It now has 143,663 million dollars in domestic grosses. It held off it's main competitor, SALT, which opened at #2. It will continue to have good holdovers and, at the end of it's run, will at least match IM2's gross of 310 Million dollars without a front loaded opening weekend. Only a Marvel fanboy could think IM2 is more popular and better received than INCEPTION, which is proving that good filmmaking and smart scripting will always triumph over empty spectacle.
-
Whedon knows comics and he knows ensemble casts. I'll give the benefit of the doubt until it sucks.
-
I mean, I get it, she's very attractive. But her only acting "talent" consists of her staring at things. She has no charisma, and no presence whatsoever. There's no way that she's going to be able to hold her own in Avengers, and it's going to be awkward and embarrassing watching her try. In short, I've got my fingers crossed that she'll be magically replaced before Avengers starts shooting, but there's no way that will happen, which is disappointing.

Iron Man 2 vs. Inception
by OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUTTTTTLLLLLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWW
All of you, stop talking about dollars, you nerds. You're making the rest of us nerds look bad. Iron Man 2 sucked. I haven't seen Inception yet. If I see it and it doesn't suck, then it wins. *pushes up glasses*
-
....though truthfully I don't look at box-office too much either way. sometimes crap does well, sometimes it flops and vice-versa with great movies. Nice to hear Inception is doing well though.
-
Iron Man 2 made over 600 world wide. Hardly a flop. It's made more than 300 in the US ALONE. What did Inception do the first weekend in the US. It barely made 70 mil.
-
But Inception > Marvel
-
It's audience is for females who couldn't even sustain Sex in the City 2 for more than a week.
-
<p>The Hulk uses brains and brawn to dispose of his adversaries. Example; when the US Army tried to utilize Stark's repulsor technology against the Hulk he realizes that walking straight into it wasn't going to work, so he uses two large sheets of metal to shield himself until he could get close enough to dispose of the radar-guns.</p> The Hulk also used Brains to take out the Abomination. He also realized that he was no match in a head to head fight with him. That's when he activates his "Hulk-Smash" ability to take the ground underneath him. Then he proceeded to put the chain around his neck so he could choke him out. You're sadly mistaken if you think the Hulk is stupid. The Hulk will be a great villain, he'll be 1000 times more exciting and formidable than the Riddler ever could, or will be.
-
Thanks. I agree that box-office doesn't always tell the whole story.
-
I thought IM 2 was average, too, but then again, I think Thor and Captain America look hammy.
-
No one said IM2 is a flop. It did well. I actually enjoyed it for what it is. But there's no question that expectations were for the film to gross around 350-400 Million dollars domestically. It would have if it was received with more enthusiasm. Most people thought it was just ok.
-
...that it was just okay. Even with my expectations lowered I didn't like it though. I'd still be curious where an IM3 would take things though.

IM2 damn well better gross more tahn Inception considering its a know comic-book character(vs Inception)! And its a franchise meaning sequels!<p>Inception is doing very well and probably in the end will come close to IM2 numbers and thats good considering some thought Salt was going to bury it and it didn't!
-
... is at least taller than everyone else. Fox screwed the pooch when they made Wolverine tall(ish) and Cyclops short(ish).

No joke. Another website has a pic from the con. As Comic-Con comes to an end, the studio decided to reveal a key prop - a secret weapon - from the Thor movie! Before the unveiling, an announcer at the booth asked the crowd to "prepare to witness" the Gauntlet, announcing that it will make an appearance in next summer's Thor.
-
Cast is good. Director is good. Most other important stuff is good. I think this might happen. But Rufallo needs to loose some weight and geek up a bit.
-
Marvel, Please don't introduce Thanos before properly introducing Silver Surfer to the Marvel movieverse.
-
Not Thor.

ASSEMBLE!!! I was once a fan of the Marvel movies being made. Now I feel like they are leading up to a Marvel vs Avatar camp fest. I am on the DC side of the cinema future of "you know". HollywoodHellraiser, Inception is comparable to a comic book, but most of all to anime. It just felt so much like an anime movie. Anyways. I can see comic book versions of inception down the road. It is also one of the best ensemble pieces i have seen in awhile. Green Lantern should be bad ass, because I am sure Martin Campbell will not stitch Hal's mouth shut.

Solo hero/villain movies have better track record than ones with multiple participants as far as quality. Besides the avengers you got Sam Jackson eating up screen time. Better to have gone with the big 3: CA/IM/Thor equals more quality time for each action wise and interaction too.

I'd copy and paste something you said as a BRILLIANT comeback too but thus far you've said absolutely nothing creative or remotely interesting.

-
That was comedy (and well done I add) but the avengers is to be this big serious movie event so I'd put Mystery Men in a different category. Glad you reminded me of Mystery Men. The auditions in the backyard still make me smile.
-
you failed at the internet tonight and whats sad is you don't even know why.
-
Don't like the widow. Personally I'd like she hulk. You know her origin. Just have Fury introduce her and say shes part of the team.
-
Origin is a problem. Could go with air force intelligence officer only survivor of an expedition investigating a downed spacecraft in jungles of SA.
-
But Avengers can easily go one of two ways. A) The X2 route with Downey as the Alpha Dog ala Wolverine. or B) X3 with with a clusterfuck -although that was the directors fault mostly.

No, the sad thing is you actually think any of this matters and that someone could succeed or fail on an anonymous talk back. That is sad and pathetic and a total failure on your part.

by fat_rancor_keeper
I agree that IM2 was a bad sign.....<P>I actually think that an ensemble team can work in theory, it's just very difficult to pull off. <P>There are so many variables and considerations. For the Avengers film there are going to be clashing styles and tones that mesh well in the comic universe but will be difficult to balance in the world of cinema. The X-Men films arguably functioned well enough on this level because many of the key characters had shared histories and were fundamentally similar in numerous ways.
-
Only time Hollywood got capes right when flying was with Reeves.
-
she hulk always seemed like a spoof character to me. I like her though for what she is.

those clashing styles and personality conflicts will be minimal in screen time for movie to focus on fight scenes. Nice post by the way.

It's a shame but I don't see it happening. Especially with the absence of Norton. I was really looking forward to this film but the closer it gets the less likely it seems like it'll end up being any good. There are far too many obstacles and things that can go wrong.<P> Even with Norton I'm not sure this project would have worked.
-
Gonna be a good year. Avengers and MORE of my Obama. I can hardly stand the thought of all the NEW Hot Wheels I will have between now and then. MEXICANS will all be legal too. May need to change the movie to "Los Vengadores" in 2012.

Just too much going against this movie and concept. Concept being a live supers team movie. Xmen movies worked because they have similiar origins and carry over well to the screen. Budget and special effects were budget killers either.Avengers is a different beast entirely.

You should have bought 30 tickets to The Incredible Hulk when it was in theaters. The movie was a box office disapointment which means Marvel wasn't going to put up with his attitude because his involvement or lack there of will not affect the box office of this movie.<br><br> The fact of the matter is most movie goers were or weren't going to see this movie whether Norton was in or not. Only a small handful of the potential audience of this film even cares. And a decent segment of them will see the movie anyway.<br><br> The general movie audience only really care about Robert Downey Jr. since he was the only actor ever involved in this movie to open at least one movie to good numbers with a character in this film. <br><br> I've always liked and respected Norton as an actior, but the guy is one of the most self-destructive actors in Hollywood and I don't doubt his ego played a big role in him getting replaced. I personally will not be swayed to go see this movie either way based on his involvement. It will be based on how good or bad the trailer looks and any buzz. In my lifetime, I have already been through 6 James Bonds, 4 Batmen, and 5 John Connors (if you count the future John in the original Terminator and The Sarah Connor Chronicles TV show). I think I can live through three Bruce Banners (Bill Bixby was David Banner and a totally different backstory so I will ommit him).
-
"too much going against this movie"?! In whose head? What's going against it besides what's in your imagination? So there was a dust-up over casting. It happens, movies survive. Idiot fanboys just create this supposed negative hype before a script is even complete. And I can't believe people are already putting Avengers up against Nolan's 3rd Batman film. Two films that aren't even done with their scripts yet! As if Dark Knight and Iron Man were even remotely comparable. Two very different movies in different genres with different styles, with different themes serving two different purposes. But because they both happened to be based on superhero properties from rival comics companies, that's the point of comparison that fanboys stick to. I don't expect Avengers or Batman 3 to have anything to do with each other. I'll enjoy both, I'm sure, for completely different reasons.
-
I really liked the latest vactorss of at least James Bond and Batman. There is over two billion dollars with of ticket sales backing up that others agree with me on those characters. So saying that character the actor is going to ruin the character and/or movie doesn't hold a lot of water.

Had that been announced anywhere previously? I don't know - first I've heard of it. But damn, that actually works for me. And I have to admit all of them standing there together looks pretty bad ass. Well, I'm still not sold on Evans. Particularly standing next to what appears to be a giant playing Thor. But I'm more interested than I was before. May even make an effort to see all the characters films leading in to it. Will that even be necessary? Or this going to be it's own thing.

-
What's with all the numbers talk? Some people say they don't get nerds "crying" about changes to this and that; I say I don't get nerds obsessively quoting financial reports. What does any of what you just said have to do with whether or not people like the decision to replace Norton? "Well, Marvel made sure all their bases were covered fiscally before pulling the trigger on their contract, so I guess I applaud their shrewd business sense?" Fuck that. <br> <br> And for the record, your James Bond analogy is flawed since the entire series was rebooted, not just one actor replaced.
-
Bond didn't need to be rebooted. They've been making the same stories for years. I see Casino Royale as a new Bond with a black and white flashback to show how he got his double o status.
-
Reboot Royale was about Bond learning to fuck wimmen harder and less lovemakey, according to popular reviews. The next one up (after that awful flashing South American water disaster peice of garbage) will feature "heartless Bond" and be called Goldfingered, and then of course its Thunderballs.

Get him to do both roles. Hulk and Iron man!
-
Inception had great opening weekend and amazing 2nd weekend despite competition. It stands with $143 at domestic and it will go much futher and you can already call it commercial success in the body of art which doesn't happen very often. iron Man 2 was hyped too much, I think there were even thoughts of it coming near Dark Knight. It did good money when you consider hopes about IM2 coming near TDK or it did very good money if you think about it's worldwide gross and numbers just. I don't see any reason compering both these. IM2 was front loaded though and it's weekly drops were big comparing to the first movie and that's always a sign that something doesn't TICK as it should.

It's been interesting reading all the opinions on the Avengers announcement. Wow - some interesting comments. Good and bad. However, they main thing Whedon has got going for him is a) He knows how to handle a Good ensemble cast with top notch back stories/characterization (Think Buffy and Firefly) and B) he has had a few guest gigs writing for various comics so has a decent idea how both mediums work. Being able to give every cast member (and Marvel character) the ability to shine in this movie is going to be the key to success or failure.

How would the audience and team members be able to see and hear them? Thats whats holding those two back from the big screen. My choices for the Pyms if in the movie would be Emily Blunt for the wasp. Hank would be played by David Duchovney. Yes, I know the hair issue but that didnt stop Craig from being a great Bond. Duchovney could do a great Pym I think. He would the total opposite of the driven Stark, just be the laid back scientist type.

I'm semi-nerdy, not much in the comic book vein, and when I think Avengers I think Diana Rigg. It doesn't really have the same resonance as "Justice League of America" (thanks to 70s and 80s cartoons), which means I think downplay the title.

I will reveal a harsh reality to you. Studios do not make $150 million blockbusters to appease a small segment of comic book geeks who obsess over every detail. They make the movie to open the movie with a $100 million weekend. They don't really care about the guy who complains because the X-Men aren't wearing their original costumes or Thor's hammer is too big or Ed Norton isn't in Avengers. If you cannot deal with this harsh reality, stop going to blockbuster movies.<br><br> Another harsh reality is most movie goers don't care that Ed Norton isn't in this movie no matter what they think about him as an actor. Ed Norton has zero boxoffice appeal no matter how good of an actor he is. He has never even had a modest success in a movie that was sold on his name alone. <br><br> Another harsh reality is that Norton has a long history of being difficult. This isn't just made up. He is an ass. It may be for good reasons to make the movie better, but he still is someone that few people want to work with. If he was an A lister who could open a film, then he would work. <br><br> My overall point is that the viewing public has spoken and the general reaction was people didn't care about Ed Norton's Hulk. That means that Marvel wasn't going to put up with his bullshit. If The Incredible Hulk was a boxoffice success, they would have. That is the fact of life.<br><br> As for James Bond, forget Daniel Craig. How about Pierce Brosnan who was a great Bond until the source material got tired? Besides I think the current Bonds are not that much different than most of the other Bond movies as people make them. I would say Daniel Craig's portrayal of Bond is closer to Sean Connery's than most of the other actors who played Bond.
-
Personally, I have never given Norton shit for rewriting. In fact, the studio allowed him to rewrite the script. I give him shit for acting like a baby and intially refusing to promote the movie because they cut a scene he really wanted in the movie. RDJ never did that. RDJ although had input, would never had caused problems if John Favreau overruled him about a scene in the movie.

Does anyone know if there will be Hot Wheels from the Avengers movies? I sell toys from my folding table at a local toy show. Thanks.

Rob is absolutely right. No one IRL cares about IH or Norton.
by reflecto
And Inception has just as much of a B or C-list cast - JGL, Ellen Page, Tom Hardy, Watanabe etc while talented actors are all either up and coming or character actors. Doesn't matter because it's a great movie. Same talent level with Avengers, except people want to whine because it's not all A List. All A List was never going to be affordable or feasible realistically, AND Ed Norton hasn't been A List for awhile. That's why he did the lackluster, mediocre, already forgotten by general public Incredible Hulk.
-
He wanted next movie to rely less on gadgets (Like Connery did who quit over it), promoting items and a say in the stories. Studio said no and dropped him under the pretense of being too old. Difference between Norton and Brosnan as Rob079 nicely detailed is that Norton has no box office clout but Brosnan regarding the Bond franchise did due to his financial success with the role. If I got anything wrong with post feel free to correct me.
-
At least they cast some kids with pectorals. I love the tin-foil Thor helmet. Had one exactly like it, made out of plastic, when I was seven. Robert Downey, Jr., is pointing at something in that photo. Is it his escape route?
-
So what happened I thought Cheadle was signed on to reprise War Machine in the Avengers and yet not even once was he mentioned.
-
One way they could make the large cast work would be to do what's occasionally been done in the comics, and have the team split off into pairs, each sent somewhere in the world to handle a specific part of the big crisis. Could make for a lot of good character interaction without the challenge of doing it with a big crowd of heroes. I can't remember the exact storyline where I first saw this, but it was fairly early on. I recall Black Panther and maybe The Vision taking on Ymir. pretty sure I have it in one of my Marvel Essentials collections at home.
-
War Machine always kind of struck me as being like Venom or Carnage - a completely unnecessary invention motivated by some tacked-on desire to make completely classic characters more "badass", which only geeks care about. Cheadle would add a little bit of diversity to the processdings, though (not counting Sam Jackson, who's pretty much a novelty just playing himself, unless he takes it up a notch).
-
Loved the first one, but 2 stunk. RDJ seemed almost desperate in it, and not intentionally. It almost worked for a moment with the Howard Stark bit - almost one moment of actual emotion in the film - but even that ended up silly with the map business. All in all, it got everything wrong the first one got right.
-
Something to take us out of the dreary reality-based stuff and into giant planet-eating stuff. I think a nice big green CGI dragon with the voice of Chris Tucker could fill the bill.
-
so no 2 hrs of *Hank hit Jan* like Marvels been replaying for oh going on 30 years now<p> They had to finally kill Jan to get over it<p> Every couple episodes of The Avengers it'd be brought or or the scene replayed

How do I get shit for stating Marvel fucked over Norton......
by fat_rancor_keeper
......but the same 2-3 people who have been needlessly giving Norton shit since day one get a free pass? "If he was an A lister who could open a film, then he would work."<P> Okay so now Norton isn't an A lister??? <P>Mark Ruffalo however is an A lister though who can open a film right??? LMFAO!<P>First Norton IS an A lister...second stop with the tired "can he open a film argument." I saw IH opening day to a jam packed theater with about 10 friends. People were fucking loving it & cheering. We came out pumped for Avengers, unlike when we left IM2. <p>Okay the movie didn't do as well as Marvel liked but you talk like the movie didn't have a fan in the world. Go to google and you'll see the movie got more critical praise than the first Hulk and is listed as making more money. But again....I have no interest in debating dollars, it's fucking BORING and you are just going to claim your own boring set of numbers. <P>Also - Changing actors for a lead role for the 3rd time is hardly "obsessing over a small detail"...especially considering RDJ appeared at the end of IH to directly link up the franchise. <P> If you guys honestly feel like you are getting a better movie without Norton, and don't give a shit about continuity or the excitement of seeing Ed & Rob together on screen for the first time than whatever - enjoy Avengers whenever the hell it comes out. But don't sit there and deny Norton didn't get fucked over. If Kevin Feige and Marvel cared about continuity and fans they'd have worked out any differences. Clearly Ed was already the bigger man from his commentary and the fact that he was openly ready to start shooting. To deny that Marvel looks like the grudge holding cunts in this makes you a cunt yourself.

NORTON IS ONLY REALLY SUITED TO PLAY A PSEUDO-SCHIZOPHRENIC
by BringingSexyBack
Every other role he's done has been bland and dismissable. I mean, he was out-acted by Marky Mark in The Italian Job ferchrissake. Granted, I haven't seen Keeping The Faith, but it's not like any of y'all have been bringing it up as his personal The Godfather. LOL <P> Anyway and in summary ... Norton got dicked over, but he wasn't great to begin with as Banner and the movie sucked, it's common knowledge that he's a Naomi Campbell level diva and so his ouster is inconsequential to all but a few. That about sum it up?

I loved the remark earlier about how he's a fanboy fave with really no proven skills besides making tv shows with 'snappy' dialogue that get cancelled halfway through the season. Whoo! Color me excited!

First of all, until we even know how much Bruce Banner is even going to be in the movie, this bitching is useless. What if Norton was only going to be hired to do a cameo? Is the film going to be ruined because it doesn't have 5-10 minutes worth of Norton? <br><br> Second, this is an Avengers movie, not a Hulk movie. It isn't like they are doing a Hulk movie with another actor. Based on the box office of the first two Hulk movies, we won't see a third one unless they go low budget where Norton would be replaced anyway.<br><br> The fact of the matter is The Incredible Hulk did worse box office than Ang Lee's Hulk. Just because your theater was packed opening day and everyone loved it doesn't mean the movie was a success. <br><br> Norton may have gotten fucked over or he may have fucked over himself. To claim you know what really happened is bullshit. Norton could have met with Marvel and Whedon and demanded more screen time, disagreed with the direction of his character, or whatever. To claim he is an innocent victim is too ignore his long history of being an on the set diva (no matter if his intentions were good). <br><br> My overall point stands. Few of the target audience for this movie cares about Norton. That is why Marvel won't be putting up with his attitude this time around. Is he a better actor than Ruffalo? Yes. Will it really ruin the movie if he is not there? Who knows without even seeing a script to see how much Bruce Banner is in the movie?
-
But the sceret weapon may be a long-forgotten tool, virtually unheard of in Hollywood for ages, called...good writing. A good script and good story can overcome a lot of budget issues. Here's hoping they're smart enough to get one, or your prediction may prove true.<p>Your comment reminds me of the old Monty Python sketch, "Mr. Neutron", where the cosmically cataclysmic finale to the story ends up being a breathless narrator describing what could be happening, if they hadn't run out of money and the BBC could afford to film it.
-
I think I just blew my Mark Ruffaload. Guess who just got their new porn name?

Grew up with it in grade school and all the years since. Had such a classic brownstone look to it. Was perfect for a supers team. Remember the maps they had of it in the marvel handbook which made it even more cool.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Incredible_Hulk_%28film%29 IH - <P>"The film out grossed its predecessor and received generally positive reviews. Despite this positive reception Marvel chose to put off a possible sequel until after 2012's The Avengers....As of April 6, 2009, the film has grossed $263,427,551 in worldwide box office and it made $58,448,280 in DVD sales, bringing its total film gross to $321,875,831."<P> Anyway - like I said I could give a crap less which movie did better, Ang's version sucked ass regardless.<P> Your point about Norton potentially only being in the film for a short time makes no sense though. If it's such short screen time I'm sure they could have manned up & dealt with the horrible venom spewing, horn sprouting, primadonna devil incarnate from hell for 1 day of shooting right?<P> Anyway - we can agree to disagree - that's cool. I never said Norton was 100% innocent btw...I do however believe Marvel & Kevin Feige are way more at fault and have acted atrociously toward Norton and have been indifferent toward fans. I know you don't think fans care - I think they do. Maybe just some. I happen to be one of them that doesn't like a company shitting on talented people and disregarding their own supporters and fans. "Few of the target audience for this movie cares about Norton." No offense but unless you show me documented research you are just making stuff up. superherohype however had a poll up for several days when this went down and it showed the complete opposite of what you claim - many fans cared. again....we can agree to disagree.
-
That's an excellent point, of course. Money alone doesn't make a film great. Surely you need a great script, director, team and cast. Do we have that in this case? I'm not qualified to say. I don't know barely anything about this Josh Wheddon fella. <P> Is the cast stellar? They COULD be. They are all solid actors, Hemsworth well included. But as RDJ proved with the wild differentiation of his performances in IM and IM2, it does boil down to script and direction. But it's a given that the movie will need some great effects and shots to work and that will take money. I don't want it to be another FF. <P>
-
Why doesn't the cameo for Norton not make sense? Maybe Marvel was willing to put up with him for a week or two, but Norton started to give script notes that expanded the Banner role to make him a focal point. The sticking point may be that Norton was not willing to do a cameo and wanted to be a focal point.<br><br> As for the two Hulk revenues, I should have said domestic grosses. But when you factor in production and marketing budgets, Norton's Hulk barely made money. <br><br> As for people caring about Norton, a movie like this has to have a target audience that includes ids (who probably don't even care if RDJ returns as long as there is a a lot of cool action scenes) and people who know next nothing about the characters. Even many of the "comic book geeks" are divided on this where some think it will ruin the movie and some think it is no big deal. A very large segment average target audience will go to the movie if the trailer looks good. The fact of the matter is people went to see Batman Forever eventhough Val Kilmer replaced Michael Keaton who at the time was thought to be unreplacable. Hannibal did $30 million more domestically than Silence of the Lambs eventhough Julianna Moore replaced Jody Foster as Clarice Starling. Those are two pretty strong pieces of evidence alone that people won't care about Norton.
-
over your opinions regarding Mr Norton. Others could take a lesson from you two.
-
But I'm afraid IRON MAN II will look like a comparative masterpiece next to CAPTAIN AMERICA and THOR.<P>I love the guy above with his "movie-going public" spiel, RE: Ed Norton and HULK. Mark Ruffalo is a terrific actor, too. He ain't gonna put any asses in seats for a second-rate superhero story.<P>There's only one ensemble superhero movie that would have a hope of playing well to an audience outside of your local comic book store: KINGDOM COME. At least that one comes with iconic characters attached to it. And you don't have to spend twenty minutes on a sub-plot explaining some stupid "Cosmic Cube" or "Infinity Gauntlet" nonsense.
-
gotta give him credit for taking the helm of this big a movie. This challenge is greater than the ST and Bond reboots because a movie like this has never been done. And if it doesn't meet financial expectations another one never will.
-
You might want to wait until our discussion turns into childish name calling before you commend us. I give it four or five more posts. ;-)
-
Never said Ruffalo would put people in the seats. Personally, I don't even know if Robert Downey Jr. is critical to the box office success or failure of this movie. Ever hear the term in sports "rooting for laundry" where fans root for their team no matter who is playing and how many stars are let go in free agency? I think this a rooting for laundry type of movie where people are going to go to see a ton of superheros and action and the actors are just there. Sorta like Transformers. Do you think people won't go see Transformers 3 because they replaced Megan Fox? Do you think they wouldn't go see it if Shia Lebeouf was replaced?
-
The only reason I bring up the box office is only to say that the ticket goers reaction to Norton's Hulk has shown that Ed Norton isn't a deal breaker for this movie. People who saw the movie may have liked him in it, but he wasn't enough to draw enough people in to make that movie a hit.

For the life of me, I can't think of a single legitimate reason  ‍‍‍‍<br>anyone  ‍‍‍&zwj</br>goes to see TRANSFORMERS, anyway.<P>But, I still think AVENGERS already has three strikes it has to overcome: the three two-hour-each advertisements that will have already been seen and already dispelled any of that "rooting for the laundry." IRON MAN II, the first of the three, was ruined by the addition of all the AVENGERS nonsense, and it didn't have any of its own legs to stand back up on.<P>I could be wrong - we'll all see. I think you over-estimate the desire of people to see a screen full of superheroes. Or, maybe I over-estimate the fatigue that is settling over the idea of seeing any single superhero at the cinema.<P>You have to agree there aren't nearly enough females on that stage at Comic-Con. I'd think, that alone, puts it well out of Joss Whedon's wheelhouse.
-
sound like definite insults.<P>Maybe you shouldn't direct people's attention to Rotten Tomatoes. Only the semi-illiterate let that site influence their own judgment, anyway.
-
They could introduce Pym as sort of a Q type behind the scenes guy. Strictly secondary character. Maybe a scene or two to show his jealousy of stark and cap and to set up his dysfunctional marriage. He decides to test out a new invention on himself, but a distraught and/or drunk Janet (maybe he cheated on her)uses it on herself. all of this could just be hinted at throughout the movie and left to the sequel. The Wasp can get more time in the 2nd movie and Black Widow could return to SHIELD/IM3 with more screen time.
-
he's always right<p>and hot<p>super hot
-
By this point next year, there could very well be a superhero backlash. Hollywood is really watering down the genre producing any comic book hero they can get the rights to.<br><br> The Avengers is Marvel's version of the All Star game. I think that will be enough to make it a box office success. It doesn't guarantee it being a good movie though.
-
He needs a Winston dangling in one hand, and a Vodka Gimlet in the other. Boy he does have that swinging 70's cosmopolitan dandy vibe down to a science though don't he. I think he really became Tony Stark by way of Hugh Hefner.

David Lee Roth told me so.<p>If you don't look good doing it...<p>...it aint worth doing.
-
He loves to plant little seeds early on that dont pay off til much later, so this might be up his alley. Also, for Hawkeye to be of any use whatsoever, they may need to give him a little something in the superpowers dept. Maybe a touch of the supersoldier serum, since it was also used for Hulk/Abomination. If you hated the Ultimate stuff, this may not be your thing. But a sharpshooter, who uses a freaking bow and arrow, doesnt really belong on the Avengers in this pseudo-reality that Marvel has established.
-
I'm an Edgar Wright fan, with no rooster in that chicken fight.<P>I'd rather this be The Year of The Pilgrim than The Year of The Expendable.<P>All things considered, I'd rather this be The Year of Anything Else Except Those Two With The Probable Exception of Inception.
-
good to see you on the boards..
-
Scientist in first movie, hero in a sequel maybe as I don't think Hulk will be in 2d one and Thor, Widow are going to be iffy. Again problem with Pyms is they're insect sized heroes. Works in the comics but not onscreen. My choices for replacements would be Luke Cage and Ms Marvel.
-
"The Avengers is Marvel's version of the All Star game." <p>Excellent way to phrase it. This, though, is the reason why I really can't care about the movie. All-star games usually have moments of flash, sure, but they suck as examples of the sport. I'd rather have the Game 7 of the World Series of superhero movies.

I can see a lot of Nortons version of Banner. Bruce now has a bit of chip on his shoulder. More of a bad attitude chess player with regard to dealing with the supers. He doesn't trust them after they tried to get rid of him and I can't blame him. Problem for Banner is the ones who tried to get rid of him are necessary to keep the world safe.

Of course, the term 'A-lister' is completely subjective, but I have to say if he's not A-list material, he's right on the cusp between A- and B-List. He's like a younger John Malkovich - viewed with respect by movie-goers "in the know," but lacking many major hits to go with the rep. And neither is B-list enough to fall into the dreaded "character actor" category. Norton's certainly a bigger name than Ruffalo, and I was as pissed as anyone when Norton was canned, but I'm starting to see why Marvel let him walk. Norton was apparently a bigger pain-in-the-ass than any potential box office boost could justify putting up with. Kinda sux, and Feige came across as completely petty in his statement, but in the long run it probably won't matter either way in regard to The Avengers' BO...

I didn't want to bother saying anything because I had nothing to say. But then I saw you call Inception filth and complained about a lack of God in it, so I finally felt motivated to say something. If you are not make-pretending for the fun of it, then I am surprised at you. I am not a christian, but if I'm really curious, I sometimes go to christiananswers.net to see what they think of a movie, and they actually liked Inception. Not that I think this somehow obligates you to agree with them. But I'm just surprised. I used to go to capalert.com to see what weird analysis they had for whatever recent movie the guy saw. He complained about telepathy in the movie A.I. I figure he was mistaking the beings at the end of the movie for aliens. (and he said there was a drowning bear in The Iron Giant! I think he was referring to a swimming raccoon. But I didn't think of that as drowning. It was meant to be a comedic moment.)

are all the nerds in the world going to self-destruct? The best thing Ruffalo ever did was Safe Men i can't imagine him being all angry though

I'm not putting a razor down there for any amount of money.

Its the only way to be sure.

The Sucker Punch trailer is out. Would be nice to share that with your readers, hmmmm?
-
"It seems it won't work out for me to continue playing Bruce Banner for Marvel in 'The Avengers...I sincerely hoped it could happen and be great for everyone, but it hasn't turned out as we all hoped. I know this is disappointing to many people and that makes me sad. But I am very sincerely grateful to Marvel for extending the offer and even more so for giving me the chance to be a par of the Hulk's long and excellent history."<P> I know this is an old quote......but anyone who still claims Norton is a douche should have their head examined.<P> Yeah I know don't bother - here's the part where you repeat the same gossip about his "years worth of being difficult" bla bla bla...........save it.
-
Also, I'm less than overwhelmed with the whole Avengers thing so far. For it to work they'd have to give each of the individual films to a director who's a) A fan and b) Got a unique style, so when they all come together it feels like something significant. So far I'm not getting that vibe.
-
rules!
-
"Bad pubes."
-
Case closed.
-
Marion: And your pubes
-
You think of Indiana Jones
-
Want it to gross more than Scott Pilgrim. That'd be justice.
-
I don't know enough about the mythology, but did Spiderman ever fight alongside the Avengers? Imagine if Sony hadn't bagged Raimi's crew and were generous enough to allow Tobey Maguire to make an appearance in Avengers...If that had happened at the end of Avengers, you can't deny it'd get everyone pumped up. Shame that franchises hit the reboot button too...woulda been epic.
-
Met him a few times. Always nice.
-
apple.com/trailers I think it looks pretty sweet. Just sayin'.
-
there was always at least one guilty summer movie pleasure (Meatballs,Fast Times,Beastmaster, etc). Haven't had that yet.
-
And he's also been a member of the Fantastic Four.
-
Hex: Cut myself shaving my pubes.
-
LOL If anyone thinks this is going to be some mega hit....stop living in denial, this will not even break 100 million, no one wants to see Mike Cera doing his tired old schtick, no matter who is directing it or what pimply face nerd fantasy comic it's based on, it might make a little bit of money, but it won't be a "hit"....but keep on dreaming loser, little boys like you need some sort of hope, even if it is something as retarded as Scott Pilgrim...hahahahahaha
-
I don't remember.
-
He's giving the rest of us a bad name. I hate to have a house divided, but i can't help but to think he's just putting on a show for all of you ala Borat. That science quote is kind of a give-away to his schtick (I hope). If you're not kidding then, dude, you're not giving the message of hope, love, and success in absolutely the worst way possible. Continue with your antics, but I just had to call you out on your nonsense. Oh yeah, I'm a Christian, and I love this comic book world of make-believe.

The A Team was my guilty summer movie. Loved it!
-
these guys are buying your act.
-
he said "thanks for having his back but I should chill and just go enjoy the avengers flick and other marvel movies because life's too short."<P> I told him NO WAY MAN! <p> FUCK MARVEL!<p><p> NORTON!<p> NORTON!<p> NORTON!<p> NORTON!<p> ......then he just hung up on me.
-
rate a-team on a scale of 1-10.
-
Lou Ferrigno. Hah!
-
Liam is of course a plus to any movie but the rest of cast didn't thrill me too much. They had a few lines that you had to laugh at. Action scenes weren't bad and some over the top which is what you want. Plot didn't matter for a movie like this just want fun. Will say it was more fun than Predators but thats not saying much. Will it be a movie I'll remember years from now like a few I listed? No but it was a summer fun movie.
-
Just don't invite ewoks.
-
That had potential to be a guilty pleasure til they did the Venice scene. After that I've mentally blocked out the rest of the movie. It was that bad.
-
2 rival assassin teams take each other on in a corporate office. . Looks stylish and could be bloody fun.
-
Ed also told me you and Kevin Feige are on his shit list.
-
. . and I'm going to be there opening day.
-
It feels so forced and like such a sad attempt to pander to fanboy/nerd culture. How can anyone actually be interested in this?
-
this movie will fail it is a geek fest but no chicks Scarlett is great and hot but man they need more than her in Tights big time
-
All the whining nerdy geeks in here talking big and proclaiming this movie is going to suck are just plain embarressing. I check this site for news and sometimes get distracted and start reading all the hate mongering comments from all the people here that feel the need to insult and villify anyone who has accomplished more than they have (which is, of course, pretty much everyone). It may be cliche, but the image of all you guys sitting in your mother's basement spewing your hatred because you feel scorned by the world can't help but ring true given all the chest puffing and smack talking that goes on. It's just really pathetic and frankly makes me sick. In many ways I believe the world was a better place before the internet.
-
so they know they are in the process of raping my childhood in a gay superhero custom.
-
That's hilarious!
-
can stuff my lovebox any time.
-
like the avengres can be made but the Wonder Woman which has been talked about for about 8 years (?) can't. Point is a team movie is more expensive, should be tougher to make with all the problems (see posts) than a solo hero. Unless its Wonder Woman.
-
First annual worth buying in long time. Mandarin kidnaps filmmaker to make biopic of himself. Want to see the world thru a madmans eyes? This story will do that. Is you thought Doom and Osborn had issues with reality, the Mandarin is on a whole different level. Do yourself a favor and buy it. Its one of those comics you'll pull out every once in awhile to read because its that good.
-
back in avengers 150-200? Couple of actors fit that look: George Clooney or Gerard Butler immediately come to mind. Especially the issues Drawn by Bryne or Sal Buscema. By the way, did anyone like the mullet look they gave him for a few years? All you needed to add was a mustache and wondy would have been perfect to do 70s porn.
-
Match in heaven for me as I love Amy and the character. Great costume, personality, skills of catwoman and great signature phrase: cheese and crackers!! Was great in avengers and then defenders. She's the little miss sunshine of the marvel univers
-
Feige and Whedon
-
We all know Whedon's a great director and his Amazing X-men was well-written and showed a clear grasp of the characters<p><p>However, I worry about Marvel's influence. Iron Man 2 was coming out May 2, with or without Favreau and that was it. Most blockbuster sequels come out three years apart (unless they were filmed back-to-back in the first place) DC is giving Nolan the time he needs to craft a good story and plan a great film. I will hope for the best.
-
With so many "main" characters, there will not be a lot of screen time for any of them. Which lends the film to just a series of action set pieces if Whedon is not careful. Think of those all star WWII films from the 60s. When done right, they were pretty good, like when The Longest Day used a series of established and newer leading actors to tell a major historical event. But A Bridge Too Far or The Battle of Britain were kind of poor in many ways. I guess the difference is, all of the Avengers will have had their own set up films before this project - with the exception of Ruffalo's Hulk I suppose. <P> Anyway it will be interesting to see if this works.

I think they should...
by OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUTTTTTLLLLLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWW
I agree. They would be much better off with actors that give off heterosexual vibes, like Michael Cera.

Not the Hawkeye I want. Loved him either as the rebel early on in his career or as a graduate of CAs school of leadership from recent years.

Wes Anderson should be direcing this film

SCOTT PILGRIM FAILING AS BOTH A FILM AND AT THE BOX OFFICE
by rogueleader66
Fact, and a priceless one at that
-
I'm out but will return later..... just because I am so amused by this gay Scott Pilgrim fanboy bullshit, love seeing the rantings of the delusional.
-
Fact. Pussy Galore says so.
-
That banner ad's been bugging me. All after-the-fact/extended-universe Star Wars naming is so horrifyingly bad. Lucas named things so stupendously well in the first 3 films. Leave it at that, please. He's not from "Ithor", whatever the hell that is, he's a mysterious creature in the cantina with no official identity. Backstories are so stupid.
-
Serious. His character has been so well redone its amazing. From Bob Layton who started thinking of Herc as a fun loving, boozing, womanizing oaf with a big heart. To the current incarnation of a demigod who lives life to the fullest but knows he has a lot to atone for. Do it Marvel, stop being so serious all the time. You need a villain, fine: Hera the uber bitch for a stepmom and Lucy Lawless would be perfect. Just watch Spartacus. And scottpilgrim don't bother with the greeks are gay crap unless you have something originalto say.
-
Was reading up on Moonstone in wikipedia and it briefly mentioned Scarlett looked at Moonstone as a character. The article on Moonstone also included a link to Scarlett talks Iron Man 2. And I was impressed with the interview she gave. Not a big Scarlett fan but my respect for her has gone up.

I don't go on Twitter you tool, it's for short attention span losers like you....tell me genius, what is this holy grail of a movie going to make? Huh? What will be it's box office take? Come on smart guy, because we all know that internet buzz is soooo relevant...go back on Twitter and don't forget to brush your teeth before bed, or mommy will yell at you.<P>You pre-pubescent little boys are really entertaining, please keep it up.
-
No interest in this movie whatsoeva! Cap A = Lame / HawkEye= who the fuck cares thor? = Get real
-
the place totally exploded, it was awesome gave me geek chills, i was also about 10 seats away from the stabbing.
-
...lives to die another day...after seeing Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World.
-
so the chance of the cast and the director reading this site. is very small.
-
Brian Dennehy as Odin James Woods as Loki Sigourney Weaver as Sif John Candy as Volstagg Carey Elwes as Fandral Bruce Weitz as Hogun Steve Martin as Balder (gray hair) Heimdall...unknown Thor... unknown..maybe if he could act his way out of a paper bag, Triple H, Paul Levesque.
-
A little more legible and easier to read; Brian Dennehy as Odin; James Woods as Loki; Sigourney Weaver as Sif; John Candy as Volstagg; Carey Elwes as Fandral; Bruce Weitz as Hogun; Steve Martin as Balder (gray hair); Heimdall...unknown; Thor... unknown..maybe if he could act his way out of a paper bag, Triple H, Paul Levesque.
-
Captain America: Man in uniform. Sex appeal. Thor: Pretty blond hair and spokesman for all superior white people. Iron Man: Hard steal and power tools. . goodness. Ant Man: Just too cute to pass up. Hulk: Huge, rough and angry. . scary yet a real turn on.
-
Announcer: Isn't this great everybody?? Who would have thought we could get Mark Ruffalo to play the Hulk!!!!<p> Comic-Con Nerds: Um.... who?
-
Disregarding the "Joss sux ergo Avengers will sux" noisyness, one legit complaint I hear is that Whedon doesn't have enough experience working with superheroes or in the superhero genre. Most will counter this arguement with Whedon's X-men run. <p> However...you guys realize that Buffy Summers was a Superhero, right? She had an origin story, super strength, had a crew of people that surrounded her with their own powers and saved the world a lot. <p> BtVS had a run on 145 hours. That's like 72.5 Superhero movies. And that's just one gig. <p> He has enough experience.
-
I realize this is going to be a sure fire hit and I'm excited, but the budget is going to have to be somewhere north of 3.4 kazillion dollars. Even if it takes in only a fraction over that amount say 3.6 kazillion dollars that's still .2 kasillion dollars.
-
Buffy = 145 hours of produced television <p> Angel = 110 hours of produced television <p> Firefly = 13 hours <p> Dollhouse = 26 hours <p> Serenity = 2 hours <p> Dr.Horrible = 2 hours [1 hour for the movie; 1 hour for the commentary] <p> So not including his ghost screenwriting, his actual screenwriting, the comic books that he over sees - he has more screen time than anyone has ever had before taking on the Marvel universe. <p> Ever.

To counter the avengers? If I were Banner I'd be thinking of it almost as a necessity. His own secret defenders if you would. Members that come to mind include hellcat, nighthawk.
-
Banner: If I don't join your group and be a team player, what are you gonna do? Put me in a rocket and shoot me into space?
-
Whedon is the only choice for the movie. He's got the track record and the balls to pull it off. Good luck Joss.

Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Misty Knight and Black Cat. Nuff said.

Hell, Billy Dee Williams is a poor man's Billy Dee Williams. Didn't he do Mahogany? LOL.
