The only thing Jim Shooter turned was Marvel into a bad joke. Hank Pym was a sexist dick from the get go, but I think it was Roger Stern who made Pym violent.

Ruffalo is sufficiently nerdy. I've never been one of those people who thinks that people have to match the precise physical type of the drawn character. As long as they capture the spirit, that's good enough. In fact, I'd like to see a more doughy Banner just to emphasize the drastic difference.

Having a bunch of top actors who are each playing a character that doesn't really work well with others is probably the best typecasting you could do.

to deal with a threat. I mean the movies have been mentioning the avengers initative right? For villains Ultron is out as Thor fought the destroyer (repetition), Loki out (?) just gut feeling, same with Kang. Question is if Fury knew about Thors hammer must know about gods existing right? How does he know that? Just asking. Think there is some sort of invasion coming and Fury is gathering a strike force. Feeling is alien and my bet is either Kree (easy to do-human looking) or going on a stretch: THANOS. Remember howlife like the orcs were? Could do the same with him. Plus by having an army to fight, the weaker avengers will have something to do.

Physique matches, eastern european, hair is fine especially compared to Scarletts. Don't know if you read the avengers when she had the semi short cut or Millers take on her in DD. She was good in the movie the messenger. Ain't gonna happen I know but I dont think she'd be that bad.

Looks like a group that will be a lot of fun to watch - easy to imagine the chemistry from the old comics with this bunch.<p>That said, as attractive as Johannson is, it's hard to not think it'll just be wasted screen time with her. She was out of place enough in a superhero film that just had one superhero; what role will she possibly have in a film stuffed full of them? And please, please don't tell me that she'll be the one to figure everything out and save the day while all the big, tough, men are rendered helpless. That cliche would drive me nuts, as it's always a pseudo-feminist pseudo-statement. Show respect to the female character by giving her her own film. Otherwise, your respect is fake.

I think White would make a fine choice. Personally, I find Crews to look a lot more like Cage. Also, I recall Cage to be more of a brawler, which would reduce the benefit of White's martial-arts background. Crews's American Gladiator stint might be more fitting for a Hollywood film. :) But I think either would do a great job.

Granted they're using the ultimates version (I think) but wheres the fire, the warrior that is Fury. Nick would never say "Tony Stark I'v got my eye on you". What a waste of a character.

Whedon didn't write the script to IM2. <p> Whedon along with Tarantino, are recognized as some of the most capable script doctors in the business...That's why Whedon is currently beefing up Zac's original script and is also tweeking Captain America's script.

but it would have been nice to get Bana or Norton back for character consistency. Oh well. <P> Marvel's lawyers must be pulling their hair hour trying to get the contracts for this in order. Big ensemble films sound like a legal nightmare to me... I remember reading when they were making the Towering Inferno, Newman and McQueen had major issues with the number of lines each actor had and were constantly trying to one-up each other. It would not surprise me if the same thing happened with The Avengers.

Was it like the Terrence Howard thing where he wanted more than they were ready to give? If it's about cutting costs then it's understandable. If they throw too much money at the all star cast they will have little money left over to make it into the epic it needs to be. It needs to have 10 times more action than Iron Man 2 and better quality special effects. Iron Man 2's special effects were like a 6 out of 10. I'd like to see this having 8/10 quality with better story and pacing. The next thing I want to know is the budget cuz it's going to have to be pretty huge to make this work.

I'd drop them and put she hulk in. Origin explained onscreen:Banner gave his cousin a blood transfusion and you know the rest. Widow is on assignment and unavailable. Plus wth she hulk not a CGI creation so you can do more with her character.

I doubted. With the exception of RDJ, the rest of the stars doesn't have the B.O. pull to pull a DIVA-LIKE move. <p> Norton, on the otherhand, is just all EGO with little to no B.O. pull to justify putting up with his antics.

So we must just have different mental images of what would be ideal for the guy. If it means actually getting a film off the ground, I'd be happy with either guy in the role!<p>I don't even know what the current version of Cage is like, and as much as I love his original incarnation, I don't care! The rawness, looseness, and working-man vibe of the original was great. The whole concept of "hero for hire" was a great contrast to the marquee heroes, though it probably resulted in Cage never quite getting his due within the Marvel universe. But done right, it could end up being the Marvel film with the most substance and depth.

when he's walking the NYC streets on a cold day and the shaft theme is playing. The scene is shown from a rooftop angle showing the beat of 70s NYC. Just a great vibe and why a guy like Cage would be in natural habitat. As you mentioned kevred it was that rawness of a working class african american that the comic audience was ready for and marvel wasnt willing to really get behind. Although in the defenders he fit in well. Course they were the perfect 70s team for him. No establishment heroes or govt ties. Defenders vol 3 reprint worth getting. Great writing and art. Christmas!!

Can't say I disagree!<p>Yes, Cheadle a good actor but he wasn't right for Rhodes!<p>I think people going to have the same reaction to the new Hulk!

So, of course, they used volunteers from prison as their guinea pigs.<p>The racist guard found Cage in the middle of the experiment and turned all the dials up to 11 to kill him, but instead, it just made him super-strong and bulletproof. not so sure about that. Id rather have a real smartass in that role. vince vaughn would be perfect. Amy Adams could be a good wasp. I can see Rufalo as banner, but why not just bring back Eric Bana? he was ok. it was the rest of the movie that was fucked up. I still say get rid of Sam jackson and make Kurt Russell Nick Fury. Nathan Fillion would be a great ANt Man. and throw in a CGI Vision with Micheal Keaton's voice.

has been used so often in plotting for marvel origins its lost its originality. From Deadpool, wolvie, Warhawk (a villain of Cages from the 70s) and Man Thing it sure got around. Sure I missed some but its pretty easy way to get someone an origin.

Just wanted to second the opinion that Kurt Russell as Fury would be a fantastic idea. I mean, for continuity's sake, you'd probably want to keep Jackson--after all, he is nice in his role as Ultimates Fury--but if a change was required, Kurt Russell would be a dream come true. The world needs more Kurt Russell. Hell, even his role in Disney's Sky High kicked ass.

always put in quality work even in crap. Once Kurt got away from teaming with Goldie Hawn, he started being in decent stuff. Both Russell and Bridges made movies in the 70s and early 80s that were really good but then they hit a rough patch. Understandable in hollywood as to keep a high profile gotta take some crappy roles in crappy movies. Just nature of the beast. But Kurt still has that dont fuck with me vibe that he can kick in when he wants. Good guy, good actor.

I wasn't impressed with the trailers for either Hulk film, because a very fake CGI hulk smashing things never did it for me. But Norton was great as Bruce Banner. I really enjoyed his take. They told him he'd have story input, didn't credit him, and changed things on him at the last second and everyone says he doesn't have a right to be upset.<p>I contend he is one of the five finest actors working on the planet. Mark Ruffalo is exceedingly boring for a role that requires a lot of subtext. This move is insipid to say the least.

Don't forget that Marvel was initially refusing to pay Sam Jackson and supposedly low-balled everyone on Iron Man 2. So I'm sure this has absolutely nothing to do with several big names in one movie and the checks Marvel would have to write.<p>Except Branaugh also wanted to cast Alan Cumming and both Sarsgaards, and Marvel went cheap there as well. nuanced and subtle=snooze inducing boring no matter how you cut it. sorry but the most entertaining people like tony montana from scarface, tuco in GBU, william shatner in everything are the most talked about, no one gives two shits about anything else, but the more subtle performances at least have some guns packing like harry callahan weidling the biggest handgun in the world or arnold schwarzenegger falling out of an airplane and landing safely.
