Cuddle Your Way To Vengeance With This Khan Plush Doll!!

Published at:  Jul 24, 2010 4:40:27 PM CDT

Merrick here...

Over the past few days we've been learning details about STAR TREK: KHAN: RULING IN HELL, a comic title chronicling Noonien Singh's misadventures as an ousted asshole. An interesting enough premise for a comic - they have my attention. Here's a press release reiterating news that's been circulating throughout the week.

KHAN RETURNS

First ever comics based on most infamous Star Trek™ villain

Complete with exclusive Khan plush doll, coming in October

San Diego, CA (July 24, 2010) – IDW Publishing is proud to announce the first-ever comic series based on the ultimate Star Trek villain, Khan! Coming in October, this four-issue series answers the question that all Star Trek fans have been asking for decades: What happened to Khan and his followers on Ceti Alpha V? STAR TREK: KHAN: RULING IN HELL answers just that, explaining how this once proud warrior-king turns into the grizzled maniac seen in Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan. To celebrate this next phase in Khan canon, IDW is offering an exclusive plush doll, available only through select comic retail stores.

“Khan is the classic Star Trek villain, and the Tipton brothers have crafted a truly engrossing story, one that eloquently spans the gaps in Khan's history and makes his story whole,” said editor Scott Dunbier.

When he first appeared in Star Trek’s episode “Space Seed,” Khan is an elegant, charming, and ambitious superhuman. After being marooned on an uninhabited planet by Captain Kirk for fifteen years, the Khan of Star Trek II is twisted by loss and driven to the ends of sanity by an unquenchable thirst for revenge. Available with the first issue of STAR TREK: KHAN: RULING IN HELL, IDW’s exclusive Khan plush captures the vengeful tyrant, complete with mysterious black glove. Fans interested in the plush should contact their local comic store retailer, or visit comicshoplocator.com.

STAR TREK: KHAN: RULING IN HELL will be written by fan-favorite team Scott and David Tipton, with Fabio Mantovani bringing this fascinating and heart-wrenching story to life. Joe Corroney and Michael Stribling provide eye-catching covers for the debut issue.

STAR TREK: KHAN: RULING IN HELL is a licensed product of CBS Consumer Products.

Star Trek: Khan: Ruling in Hell #1 (of 4, 32 pages, full color, $3.99) will be available in stores in October.

Star Trek: Khan: Ruling in Hell plush doll will be available at select comic retail stores in October. Ask your local retailer for pricing and availability, or visit comicshoplocator.com to find a store near you.

Okay, cool. Fine. But what I wanna know...and what we just got a sense of today...is what, exactly, a Khan plush doll looks like. Behold the look of superior, cuddly domination!

If its chest will be made of shiny and bulgy material? Total win. If it has a little sound chip in it that says "From Hell's heart I stab at thee!" (but in a pitifully inappropriate pubescent voice) when you squeeze it? I'll order many.

How long will it be before someone sets themselves, or their home, on fire by trying to re-create Toasty Khan?

Yeah, Star Trek 2 was SO awesome. I mean, you have Khan who's all like pissed at Kirk so, right at the end he sets up this bomb thing (nothing wrong there) - then gives him five minutes to get away. Good old Star Trek. Love it.

Yes, Greg Cox wrote two Khan prequels about the Eugenics Wars and one sequel to Space Seed called "To Reign In Hell". It was meant to tell what happened to Khan on Ceti Alpha V, although I have a feeling the comic won't be based upon Cox's work.

Star Trek II: The Revenge Of Khan

    by flexfill

funny that would have been the title if Lucas hadn't come up with Revenge Of The Jedi. The producers switched to "Wrath" as not to compete with the Star Wars sequel. Lucas switched it to "Return" due to fan backlash for destroying the existing philosophy and the rest is history. There will never be another sci-fi film quite like Khan. It just can't be topped storywise, even though SFX would evolve.

Just the other day, Kirk's vicious "let them die!" came to me in the shower when I was thinking about idle political matters.
Christopher Plummer has a couple of decent lines. "I can see you Kirk. Can you see me?"
"You can only truly appreciate Shakespeare in the original Klingon."
"I'd give real money for him to shut up."
And, the classic from David Bowie's wife: "Not everybody keeps their genitals in the same place."

... an aging William Shatner. The bit at the beginning where bones gives him the reading glasses is priceless, as well as the scene later where he needs the glasses to read the computer console.
Wrath of Khan acknowledged that the actors were aging, didn't sugarcoat it and yet didn't play it for cheap laughs either.

While I really love the original 'Khan' movie...I rather NOT see JJ and co. serve up some 'alternate timeline' sequel involving him again. Ever.Give us a 'Trek' storyline that HASN'T already been done for the big screen, rather than re-hashing something that was ALREADY well done!Personally, I'd open 'mid-adventure' with the fugly NU-'Enterprise' being sacrificed to blow-up the NU-'Doomsday Machine', just after the crew has narrowly escaped. This then allows for new introductory sequence which could show a BETTER-looking new 'Enterprise' being built in space this time around...before it then goes on to discover some mysterious new world and civilization this time...I'd rather no NU-'Klingon' or NU-'Borg' sequels either, but I guess that's pushing it. Still, as long as they don't lazily bring back 'Khan', then that's a start.

This is actually the best sequel ever (it outdoes the original by so much, it's ridiculous) if you consider the result, since it saved the series, and allowed for future treks. I still remember the project genesis sequence and the oohs and gasps in the audience that CGI was mind-blowing cool and unique and probably mucho expensive back then

Star Trek VI has lots of great lines!!

    by bob loblaw law blog

Seriously... do people even think before they post lame-ass opinions?

"If I were human, I believe my response would be 'Go to hell,'... IF I were human." -- Spock

"Don't wait for the translation, ANSWER ME NOW!!!" General Chang

"I've never trusted Klingons, and I never will. I've never been able to forgive them for the death of my boy." -- Kirk

    Kirk: "They're animals."
Spock: "Jim, there is an historic opportunity here."
Kirk: "Don't believe them. Don't trust them."
    Spock: "They're dying."
    Kirk: "Let them die!"

    Chang: "We need breathing room!"
    Kirk: "Earth, Hitler, 1938."

"What you want is irrelevant, what you have chosen is at hand." -- Spock (I say that ALL the time!)

Spock: "Doctor, would you care to assist me in performing surgery on a photon torpedo?"
    Bones: "Fascinating!"

Scott: "That Klingon bitch killed her father. Mark my words, she did not shed one bloody tear."
Spock: "Hardly conclusive, Mr. Scott, as Klingons have no tear ducts."
Gorkon: "You have not experienced Shakespeare until you have read him in the original Klingon."
Kirk: "I was lucky that thing had knees."
Martia: "That was not his knee. Not everyone keeps their genitals in the same place, Captain."

Plus, there is the whole trying Uhura and Scotty trying to speak Klingon to fool the border patrol guards. Good stuff!

    Not a fake chest piece..

    by matchesmalone

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0084726/trivia?tr0667941

It has been widely debated that Ricardo Montalban's chest was actually a prosthetic piece that he wore during the film. In the director's commentary in the special edition DVD, Nicholas Meyer is quoted as saying that it was, in fact, Montalban's actual chest and that he was a very muscular man who worked out. During publicity for the movie, during an appearance on "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson" (1962), Montalban explained that he was able to achieve the look seen in the film by doing push-ups. "A lot of push-ups."

    Montalban was cut..

If you turn the volume up WAY UP you'll (see the Friendly Giant) hear him when Khan says "There she is! There she is!" Listen close now and you'll hear Herve shout "THE ENTERPRISE! THE ENTERPRISE!"

"What does God need with a starship?"

    by symon

Star Trek V might not be the best, but that is one of my favorite lines of any of the Star Trek movies. I think of it every time some nutjob fundamentalist feels like they have to cut someone's head off or blow something up for their God. If it was really God you were worshipping he could do his own ass-whupping.

I actually agree with you. It's not a great feature film, but the story isn't terrible. Certainly no campier than many lesser, but still enjoyable TOS episodes ("The Apple" and "Catspaw" come to mind...).

Some of the things that I think that he did during his time in CA5: Tailored fine leather clothing goods, played with those crazy mind controlling grubs, cheated on his wife, hooked up with his first officer, refused to believe in 3 dimensional thinking, and read a ton of Melville.

    by zodnotgod

Ricardo's chest WAS REAL! I hate this fucking lie. Meyers said it was real on the commentary and anyone with a fucking eye can see the dudes buff.
Why would it be fake and why would they put it in a movie?
