ANNOUNCEMENT AT COMIC-CON 2010 PANEL:
LINDA HAMILTON TO PLAY CHUCK’S MOM IN
RECURRING GUEST STAR ROLE
Twitter Pitch: Oh, Mommy! Linda Hamilton joins #Chuck as Chuck’s spy mom in season 4: http://bit.ly/9TNCLz #WBSDCC #Comic-Con
BURBANK, Calif. (July 24, 2010) – “Chuck” creators/executive producers Josh Schwartz and Chris Fedak thrilled fans at Comic Con: International: San Diego 2010 today with the announcement that sci-fi icon Linda Hamilton (the “Terminator” films) will join the series as a recurring guest star in season four, playing the role of Mary Bartowski, the long-missing mother of Chuck (series star Zachary Levi) and Ellie (series star Sarah Lancaster).
• “Chuck” fans have long wondered about the circumstances surrounding Chuck and Ellie’s mysterious mother, Mary Bartowski, who disappeared from her children’s lives when they were still young.
• Hamilton will appear throughout the season, leading Chuck to discover that her life was shrouded in secrets. She was a spy, a CIA agent … and that’s just the beginning. Who is she today? One thing is certain: She’s not the soccer mom who left her children so many years ago.
• Season four of “Chuck” premieres Monday, September 20, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC. In advance of the season premiere, Warner Home Video will release Chuck: The Complete Third Season on Blu-ray™ and DVD on September 7.
Hamilton is perhaps best known — especially to Comic-Con fans — for her award-winning role as Sarah Connor in “Terminator” and “Terminator 2: Judgment Day.” She also received Emmy® and Golden Globe Award nominations for her work in the series “Beauty and the Beast,” and her work in the telefilm “A Mother’s Prayer” won her an additional Golden Globe nomination and a CableACE Award. In addition to her recurring role on “Chuck,” Hamilton will guest star in the upcoming season of “Weeds.”

Hamilton is keeping busy! She recurs also as a hippie lesbian pot-dealer on "Weeds" next month.

Marvellous! Not seen Linda Hamilton in anything for a bit - she fits all the geek criteria, she's a good actress, and she feels quite credible as Chuck's mom. Well done to all, that's me happy!
-
Always liked her, glad to see her doing some tv.
-
She'll be great.
-
How a network show this in tune with geek culture has survived this long... I have no idea. Well done!
-
Hope it doesn't change the tone of the show too much.

This show is getting really good so I guess Zucker will cancel it. Since his mission is to destroy NBC...
-
but this stunt casting is getting out of hand!
-
And now she has to work again.
-
It was an okay show, but way inferior to Reaper!
-
Where's the fucking TRUE BLOOD news?
-
It fails as a comedy. It is "not" in tune with geek culture. It's pure shit through and through.
-
and will *not* repeat that series' storylines re: mother? Also, PRISON BREAK.
-
CHUCK is a comedy in the same way that PUSHING DAISIES was or CALIFORNICATION is: not. If one insists on a dualistic division between "drama" on one side and "comedy" on the other, the "dramatic" parts outweigh the comedic ones in all of those shows. CHUCK is a dramatic show, if an often light-hearted one with lots of comic relief.
-
Wanted to say It's good that the show is not in tune with the geek culture, like DickJones said, because IF a show is in tune with geek culture, we get shit like "The Big Bang Theory" or every show in Adult Swim (minus The Venture Bros, which happens to be the one show that manages to be geeky without sucking hard.)

And now my last post sounds like I'm defending Chuck...
by redegiraahgnal
..although I critizised it before. Like I said: It's an okay show, but inferior to Reaper.
-
No? Damn... well I was close.
-
Reaper was too formulaic. They were trapped by the whole demon of the week plot device which quickly got tiresome. If they dumped that aspect of the show, it might have gotten good. But they quickly ran out of good ideas for the demons and the vessels and they became more obligatory.
Chuck took a creative downturn last season, but was still a good show. I think with the painfully awful Brandon Roth gone and the whole Chuck and Sarah "we love each other, but can't be together and just sulk around each other" gone, the show can rebound this season. -
And Reaper? LOLZ.
One of the greatest parts of Chuck is that its just Great TV. It isn't all super serious like a lot of today's shows, in a lot of ways its a throwback to when you got just pure escapist TV fun like Knight Rider, Remington Steele, etc. Most people who really don't understand or 'get' Chuck, simply were not alive then and are too busy posting talkbacks while knawing on their fudgcicle. Not all TV is serious as a heart attack kids, it can often be fun! Roll with it!
-
I never knew what that word meant until this very moment.
-
We'll see how it plays out.
-
Do people really watch this shit?
-

Um, if we're talking about it - THEN IT MUST BE ON!!
by monkeymanreturns
Idiots.
-
Fuck that Scott Pilgrim shit. Edgar Wright sounds like he has a small wiener. Chuck lost it's way but got it back at the end.
-
On seeing the title I guessed Sigourney Weaver. Not too far wide of the mark, I hope you'll agree.
And I don't know about anyone else, but Chuck's certainly 'in tune' with me. Bruce Boxleitner and Scott Bakula as the dads at a wedding reception? Attracting a nerd in double-quick time by sending in a hot blonde in a Colonial Grey muscle-tee with 'Frak Off' printed on it? Literally losing your on-off girlfriend to Superman? And we've not even finished series 3 over here yet. -
Don't you say a bad thing about Linda Carter! Linda Carter is a saint!
-
Carter is the Ginger. Hamilton is the Maryanne. This is the epic VS of the geek set. ... Oh, and Weaver vs. Hamilton can be the personification of Alien vs. Terminator.
-
SCHWING!
-
is casting the guest parts with geek icons. But not in the obnoxious way that Glee does it.It hasn't worked out every time (Robert Patrick and/or his role were flat) but he was an exception.I haven't seen Hamilton on TV since Thief.

Weeds + chuck = the funny!
-
yes and Michael Jackson was a child rapist,God exists and the g-spot of the women is their brain.sure why not?
-
I won't comment on the rest.
-
To keep Zack Levi away from Superman. For that reason alone I hope it NEVER ends.
-
Not sure I wanna deal with Mom's exit too.Oh, and Carter>Hamilton.
-
is still hot. Many a Kleenex was used in my formative years while thinking of Wonder Woman
-
I wonder if she still looks good in spandex? Probably not...
-
Chuck HATERS SUCK is more like it. Why do you even care shitheads? If you think a show sucks, don't watch it. Problem solved. At least THAT problem is solved...your mental health is another issue entirely.
-
...never watch the show anymore so I hope she can find something else I watch.
Why can't they just get Megan Fox on Chuck so the show can die a quick death -
So that NBC can replace it with "Who Wants to Butt-Fuck a Multi-Millionaire?"
-
They did dump that formula about two-thirds through the first season. Not entirely after that, but there were plenty of episodes in the whole Hell-rebellion and "Sam trying to get out of his contract" aspect that didn't return to the standard DotW.
-
It's been renewed and is here to stay. Deal with it, bitches!
-
I think it funny when people come on here to talk about how CHUCK doesn't do this or doesn't do that or is this but not that when they are so clearly NOT WATCHING. I don't care if you like the show or hate the show. What I don't get is why you care whether it is still on if you don't watch.
-
...was a real mixed bag. I realize that NBC ordered an additional 6 shows at some point, so the continuity of the season was off a bit. But the whole Shaw storyline was a drag, and Morgan becoming part of the team seemed forced.
I was really hoping for Lynda Carter, Kate Jackson (Scarecrow & Mrs. King), or even Stephanie Zimbalist (Remington Steele) for Chuck's mom. But Linda Hamilton's a good, solid, choice.
Let's hope season 4 is more like season 2, and less like season 3. -
...who's going to have to rub mink oil into that catcher's mitt of a face on that chick for 4 straight hours before she has to go in front of the cameras.
-
Chuck lovers get upset? So what? I would have liked it if they didn't change Chuck himself after season 2. Basically the problem really is with NBC because they seem to rely on, "Who Wants to Butt-Fuck a Multi-Millionaire?", as one person put it. NBC keeps making crap whether it was once non-crap or not. Don't like the opposite views? Don't read the reviews! Peace, love and cheeseburgers. Again, good luck to LH.
-
I thought Chuck was cancelled?!
-
WB does. Oh and to the nutjob who said putting Morgan on the team felt forced... you are really making an effort to dislike something. Morgan on the team was probably the best thing they have ever done.
-
Right, because no seasoned CIA veteran would have been able to view the video of Shaw fighting his way through Ring headquarters and see he was pulling his punches.
Morgan not being on the team but still helping Chuck would have been much better than the CIA begrudgingly accepting him and his bungling ways.
I like the show a lot, but season 3 was a low point. I hope it comes back strong for season 4. -
chuck doesn't suck and neither does NBC. I can see! I can see!
-
.. I saw Linda Hamilton just this week on some show or other- forgive me, but she looked like a troll. Think Kathleen-Turner-on-Californication troll... bloated and trailer-trashy. Just sayin'. Don't get your hopes up too far.
