That looks fucking STELLAR! I cannot wait!
-
looking for zombies!
-
cant wait 'til Oct
-
they were saying that thy were going to drop AMC from their line-up? Anybody know anything about this?
-
its on youtube anyway, put in 'sdcc walking dead panel'
-
28 days later rip off, I mean come on this doesn't close to an original premise, guy wakes up in a hospital by himself untouched, than finds out about an outbreak, not really that interested
-
how dare kirkman rip it off!! grr!!! etc!!
-
It begins the exact same way as 28 Days Later. If you are able to get past that it's very interesting. Probably better.
-
!8 different kinds of Holy Shit!!!!!
ive been a fan of the book for a while so it would be easy to nitpick. it just looks awsome. cant wait. -
The buzz behind this is amazing and rightfully so. I'm starting to wonder if the other networks are taking notice and are scrambling for a show just like it.
-
you are right about the similarities to 28 days later. i've read the comics and had a lot of trouble getting past that. that's really the only similarity though, walking dead gets way more into heavy, psyche shit.
-
although it would have been nice if Walking Dead didn't start off that way, its far from a new idea.
Anyway, just from that crappy bootleg this looks fab. -

love ALL the homages to ALL other zombie films...
by idrinkyourmilkshake
I'm excited to this show now! However, ARE they homages? because the intro (guy is shot, wakes up in hospital recovering from i jury, discovers everything is abandoned, people are zombies, etc.) is ripped from 28 days later!
-
Why did I not know Andrew Lincoln was in this? I was sold already but damn - doubly so now.
-
Just like everything else in 28 days later, that was an homage to previous 'Zombie' titles. The guy waking up in the hospital to find the world around him changed was from Day of the Triffids
-
i'd give credit to Richard Matheson's 1954 novel, I am Legend. and romero a little credit for 1968. but by 2000, it was hardly a new concept or idea. and nothing in 28 days was invented or conceived for the 1st time. 28 days might be your first experience with the zombie genre, and theres nothing wrong with that. 28 days is a fine film. yet the walking dead owes less to 28 days than it does to i am legend and night of the living dead.
-
A bunch of shit in 28 Days was from Day of the triffids. Seeing the light to Brendon Gleesons apartment , and those military fuckers wantin' to keep the women to bang..
-
ah... i was being sarcastic. hence the grr! etc! bit on the end. because i'm so sick of people thinking 28 days later practically invented zombies. and they arent even zombies, they're people with super-rabies. nevermind.
-
Not sure how much of a lead he would need to start the comic. It could be a rip off, could be parallel creativity. Doesn't much matter. It's what happens after that makes both stories great.
-
b/c never once i have seen anyone say "omg they are ripping off lovecraft or shelley"
-
got your name wrong too, sorry about that old bean.
-
really.
-
its all a throw back to dead guy wakes up alive on the medical table. see Frankenstein which started the roots for the genre.
-
bring those fucking zombies to buckhead and they can do cocaine out of my asshole
-
both in 28 days later and in this, waking up in a hospital after the zombie outbreak, and being untouched seems pretty...lucky. too lucky. At least in 28 days later, Cillian was locked in (even though rabid crazies should have been able to get in easily) and the hospital was clean and vacant except for a slight mess in the lobby. not very realistic after an outbreak of RAGE.
At least in this, the hospital is thoroughly TRASHED and BLOODY and full of corpses. So that alone makes it BETTER than the opening of 28 days later. in either case, it's a flawed but simple premise to have someone wake up in a world turned upside down. -
-i haven't read the comic yet- was this character locked in his hospital room for protection too- or did the walkers just ignore his unconscious body?
-
Wakes up from his coma the same way.He wasn't locked in for protection but there was a zombie locked in a room in the hospital.
The "Dont open Dead Inside" Was from a totally different place if memory serves me correctly. There was a door with that painted on but they didnt see it because it was covered by snow. -
was painted on the doors to the cafeteria where it seems the hospital zombies had been contained. How? One of the series little mysteries. Does Rick take the advice? Wait and see my pretties. Wait and see...
-
there was also the 'all dead inside' painted sign outside a gated community that the survivors missed b/c it was covered with snow. So, y'know, chaos and all that ensues.
-
I have AT&T Uverse. the whole deal with getting rid of AMC and IFC was getting pretty scary there but after a campaign for Saving the channels it seems the two parties came to some agreement and the channels won't be dropped after all.

Why did Darabont's last theatrical movie looked like cheap TV...
by redegiraahgnal
...but his new TV project like a movie with a real budget?
-
Guy out camping has a days-long fever dream after being bitten by a snake and wakes to find that a super plague has killed most all of humanity. Depending on the story you want to tell, you might want to have your hero-everyman sit out the initial events so as not to be changed by them (or the writer from simply being bogged down by them). The three characters (Triffids, 28Days, and Earth Abides . . . four adding Grimes) are meant to be spared the 'shock and awe' of world-wide blindness, disease, or zombies in order to retain their pre-disaster sense of self and sanity. Or something like that.
-
you calling The Mist out for looking like a tv movie?
-
he was working on this premise before 28 Days Later came out and there was the whole "oh, shit, same setup" problem, and he said screw it, this is what i was doing anyhow. It bothered me at first, but Walking Dead is such a solid piece of work that it's easy to overlook one five minute setup...
-
The source material is outstanding, and AND there are no sparkly pussy vampires in it.
-
Christ.Looks great. Great great great. I checked out after they malingered in the prison for too long, but I've been meaning to get back to the series again. It's good shit.
-
I was excited before, but now I'm as giddy as a schoolgirl with a new Justin Bieber poster.
-
From the shaky cam to the cheap looking* FX.
(I heard Darabont did it on purpose and wanted to make them look like old Stop Motion effects. Well...that didn't work out. They just looked bad.) -
thanks for the tip to that book- i'd never heard about it, so i looked it up. now it's my next book to by.
-
jeezus. i'm not illiterate..
-
looks better than most TV for sure..I doubt the entire series will keep this up but good start at least
-
one of my fave comics sure as hell looks like it's going to be a kick-ass series AND they're using the fucking Walker Bros. version of "The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Any More"? pure gold.
-
Did it seem to be filled with every single one? And not an original idea seemingly existing? Its even "virus" caused...I'm sorry, it looks totally been there/done that and if I don't hear anything different I'm passing, I don't care how well done its supposed to be.

That opening in the hospital originally came from Day of The Tri
by mr. moe
28 Days Later ripped it off (most of 28 Days Later was a rip off of much better films.)
-
thanks for the update !!
-
but if you thought jamf was being serious, you need strongly consider killing yourself.
and in advance, I have never misunderstood anyone in my life, at all. It's my reward for taking all that promicin.
ANYWAY, this looks like it has the makings to have a preferred place on my dvr harddrive when it starts -
pretty damn OK.

Looks good, but I really hope they keep it interesting...
by anotherboreddude
[spoilers?]
...unlike the comic which went South as soon as the settled into the prison and it got way too soap opera-ish. -
***********Spoilers***** It got better after they left the Prison but yes I agree the story slowed way down at the prison.****End Spoilers***** I think they can overcome the lag at the prison with a few slight changes to that story line no problem.
-
Such a huge fan
-
The shot of the tank being engulfed by the living dead gave me a geekasm.
-
there are far too many Walking Dead articles on this site. What, has this become 'Walking Dead Central' or something? I won't go into the obvious cliche about kickbacks but with the amount of hype that AICN is giving this thing, it does make you wonder...
-
Get off Alex Garlands cock, folks. As has been said, Day Of The Triffids was there first. As for this being 'cliched' or whatever....miss this, miss out. That's all I'm gonna say. Those of us reading the books know this will be special. And THAT's why there are 'too many' Walking Dead articles on the site. Anyway, this is Comic Con fooatge. If it wasn't on here you guys would be saying 'hello, where's the Comic Con Walking dead stuff?' Some folks are never pleased.
-
Right on, glad I generated interest. Great book.
-
I'm genuinely psyched for this. The 28 days later thing is only the very beginning, after that the similarities end. That comic gets dark and crazy, with ton's of cliff hangers and shit. As long as the some of the dialogue gets trimmed of Kirkman's overly expositional diarrhea this well be tight. I was disappointed by the motion comic (felt long and boring) but this trailer got me excited for this project again. This shit is going to be epic.
-
There's a zombie show on the network that has Breaking Bad and Mad Men and you don't think this is big geek news that's going to get a lot of coverage? Especially when they show a new trailer at Comic Con? Dumbo.
-
Yeah... that only needs two articles. Don't get me wrong, this really sounds good and I'm a huge fan of Darabont but AICN have been overdoing it with the Walking Dead posts lately. There are other things going on at Comic Con that AICN haven't bothered to mention, the Dexter panel for one. They showed the new trailer for season 5 the other day and there hasn't been word fucking one about it on this site. That's my point. Doesn't make me a 'Dumbo', just makes me wish AICN didn't put most of their eggs in one basket.
-
Geeks also watch Dexter.
-
dexter is a good, intelligent, entertaining show, but it's actually panels like that that have become detrimental to the integrity of comic con and the generic 'entertainment' cash cow and publicity machine it has become.
walking dead is a comic-turned-show and has every right to be there and be discussed, as we are all curious just how close to comic the result is. -
Scott Walker - The Walker Brothers - "The Sun aint gonna shine anymore" that song was just waiting for a zombie series to go with.
-
Fair point, and I'm not disputing that at all. It just wouldn't surprise me if we saw on this site the headline: WALKING DEAD!!! Key Grip takes a shit!! Flush unsuccessful!!
-
...but check out my "tribute" on Youtube!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ln-1FdHkVgo
-
I can understand people being bothered by that fact.
-
As great as this looks, do you think the ratings will justify the cost?
-
for BRAINS!!! Actually, not. I'll wait for a decent, non-pirate trailer to even salivate.
-
By living I'm including animals. Do zombies shut down, eat each other? Just wondering. Don't know if anyone addressed this.
