It's probably the most balls-out surreal mainstream blockbuster ever. That said, the jokes weren't particularly memorable and the action sequences went on way too long.

The people behind this are on crack

    by mr gorilla

When I got a blu-ray player, I got all three PIRATES films thrown in free. That was two years ago, and I still haven't watched them because every time I try I get bored after 10 minutes. Seriously, they are the most BORING films I think I have ever seen. No storytelling, no wit, a sense of humour that's only funny if you hang out with Jerry Bruckheimer. Last week I tried again, and turned off. Instead I put in Jaromil Jires' VALERIE AND HER WEEK OF WONDERS. Now THAT's entertainment. The tragedy, of course, is that Depp is a wonderful movie star. Between this and the dreck he makes with Tim Burton, he hardly has time to make any actual movies.

    by kelseysnuts

What may save this is the absence of Knightly and Bloom (and not because of their dubious acting skills). The love story was OK in the first film, but became a drag on the sequels. Jack Sparrow owned the first film. Rum and wenches!

Yes! I live in the UK and it's on a label called SECOND RUN - so you can get it shipped over from there if you are in US. If you are in the UK it's on Play.com. Daniel, I wouldn't say it was scary although there are some terrifying images in there - it's dreamlike, beautiful, a little bit pervy... There's not much story in the conventional sense but it's strangely gripping - - I loved it! Hope you enjoy it too.

The worry with this one is the director....

    by rameses

If it were still Gore Verbenski, it would be a safe , but most likely predictable affair. The Chicargo director , doesn't seem an obvious replacement .This could veer into Joel Shuemaker territory if we're not careful.
Despite the lackluster sequels {where less ,would have certainly been more} theres still some love for the concept and I'd like to see Capt Jack back on form.Things need to be a bit more focused , concentrating more on actuall piracy and wenching , rather than all out supernatural/surrealist shit. The last two were a real chore to sit through , despite some beautiful production design and great fx.The fun just seemed to drain away. Why the hell were they so long for a start.

    Third Film

    by todd1700

("but they lost the edge, at world's end was just not at all where they needed to go with the series.")

The problem with the third film in this series is that they filmed it at the same time as the second one as a cost saving measure. That might have been a good financial move but I think that it didn't give them sufficient time to hammer out a decent script. With a little time to come up with a better script the potential still exits for some good stupid fun with this world and these characters.

    by hapapapa72

Lord knows he still looks young enough to pass it off, sonofabitch. Actually like the mermaid idea. Maybe Nolan should remake The Little Mermaid. Gritty realism= no seashells! Beautiful, mysterious, bare breasted mermaids, the way they look in real life! Starring Deborah Ann Knoll from True Blood. Maybe throw Lizzy Caplan, Amanda Seyfried, and Marion Cotillard in there And Christina Hendricks as more of a bombshell Ursula. Liam Neeson as Triton? Wait....wasn't I talking about Pirates? Damn...serious caffeine tangent. Sorry.
