No New CAPRICA Until Next Year??
I am – Hercules!!
You thought you had to wait a long time for new episodes of “Battlestar Galactica”?
Syfy just announced that prequel spin-off “Caprica” won’t be back with the second half of its first season until January.
The first 10 hours of “Caprica’s” first season aired Jan. 22 through March 26.
CAPRICA RETURNS TO SYFY IN JANUARY 2011
New York, New York – July 21, 2010 – Syfy has announced the highly-anticipated return of critically-acclaimed series Caprica. The second half of season one premieres in January 2011 (date TBA), and kicks off with a thrilling pace as the citizens of Caprica deal with the chaotic aftermath of the mid-season finale’s harrowing events.
In season 1.5, the once idyllic world of Caprica – as well as life across the colonies – falls prey to an explosive chain reaction of consequences set off by the characters’ many questionable actions in the season’s first half. Tensions rise, power shifts and the line between reality and the virtual world becomes increasingly blurred as everyone struggles to learn – and conquer – the stakes in this volatile setting. As the season races towards its stunning conclusion, events of each episode lay the framework for the inevitable (and brutal) clash between the newly-created Cylon race and their human creators.
An all-new trailer for season 1.5 will premiere at Caprica’s Comic-Con panel on July 23, and before landing on Syfy.com, it will be available exclusively on Microsoft’s Zune Marketplace on Xbox LIVE and Windows PCs through the Zune PC software available for free at www.zune.net. (July 26).
Caprica stars Eric Stoltz (Daniel Graystone), Paula Malcomson (Amanda Graystone), Esai Morales (Joseph Adama), Polly Walker (Sister Clarice Willow), Alessandra Torresani (Zoe Graystone), Magda Apanowicz (Lacy) and Sasha Roiz (Sam Adama).
Caprica is a prequel to the award-winning series Battlestar Galactica. The series is from Universal Cable Productions, and is executive produced by Ronald D. Moore and David Eick. Jonas Pate serves as co-executive producer and director.

So when can we expect season 2? 2012?!?
-
Science fiction shows have a hard time taking root even if they have the merits to stay. I am afraid that by doing this, Syfy will kill off the viewer base that was watching. Waiting this long is just idiotic. Didn't the premeir for this series come out a year and a half ago... and they still haven't finished the first season?
-
Syfy's must be far to busy crafting other inevitable failures. Like Three Inches , Haven, The Phantom ,Sharktopus or the US version of Being Human.
-
Can you smell re-shoots?
-
Wait so does the show... Yet Flash Forward, and Heroes got axed! And this piece of shit show gets to continue! But damn they gonna wait until next JAN? That is retarded! Stupid, Stupid idea.
-
... do they stop calling it "season 1.5" and just call it season 2? I mean, if they're going to spread it out that far...
-
You use the word Frak to be disrespectful to a BSG spin-off, and a damn fine one at that??? You better check yourself - before you wreck yourself.
-
Cuz we haven't waited long enough already right? Well whatever, there MUST be a reason, and if said reason makes the show better I can't complain I guess. Though I can't fucking wait for The Walking Dead, which will RULE all of TV come October!
-
The show is boring.
-
Have they given a reason? Some sort of production problems? Especially given the fact that the show hasn't had time to establish a solid footing and fanbase, I think this is a mystifying and chancy move from SyFy. They pulled the same thing with the last season of Battlestar, but that had a fanbase that were gagging for the last half season, and that hardly seems to be true of Caprica (terrific show though it is). Perhaps they should have delayed that first half season, until they had more episodes banked.
-
Did I just actually see a comment complaining about Heroes being canceled? First time for everything.
-

This network traditionally has their premieres in January.
by voice o. reason
Something about less competition from the broadcast networks.
-
It's the second season. When there's THAT much time between the episodes, it's the second god-damned season, and you know it. Your season one had 9 or 10 episodes or whatever. And that was all. Season two will clearly have the same. Maybe a little more.Fuck you and your box-set selling shenanigans.
-
I love BSG and I stuck with it to the end. I enjoyed Caprica at the beginning, but damn, it slowed down so much towards the end of the first season (half?), and eventually I realised it was taking ten episodes to tell a story it could have done in five. Some storylines were dragged out pointlessly (How long did Adama spend wandering around shouting "Tammy!", only to get shot in the head?) By the time it comes back, I simply won't give a shit.
-
this fraken sucks
-
please do another (full) two seasons of the current incarnation of Caprica, and then have it transition into the First Frakin' Cylon War. They could use a lot of the same characters too.Bottom line is, put William "Husker" Adama into the cockpit of a Viper Mark II and get on with it.
-
This season 1.5 bollocks is just that. Bollocks. They do 10 episode seasons, they should just be honest about it. Having said that, I watched Caprica out of BSG loyalty but found it slow and not that engaging. The last episode was a bit better but I can't for the life of me remember what happened. Now they're making us wait another 6 months. Way to kill it off, dipshits
-
I really tried to like this series... but holy shit it bored the hell out of me.
-
I'm done. A lacklustre first half of season 1 (or should that be S0.5?) and now this?
Dead in the water, I reckon. And I loved Galactica (yes, even the ending). -
Serious science fiction is too hard for them, so they want to concentrate on what they do best....crap sci-fi that you need to be stoned to appreciate. Also reality shows....expect a lot more stupid reality shows from them soon as well.
-
It's a smart show and explores some interesting ideas but the whole scenario is just nothing like as exciting and entertaining as Galactica. I miss the outer space/alien aspects it feels too earthly and Dallasy for my liking. I want Cylon Base-stars and weird planets, not boardrooms and family conflict, yawn.
-
we've played the waiting game before. and it sucked. I can't be expected to wait for a year to see what should have been the 2nd half of the first season.
back in the day they used to produce 23 episodes a year for hour long weekly series.
now with their "make a few see if it has a following then contract for a few more" approach it's several years before you'll get 23 episodes.
people's attention cannot be held that long. Hell if you can't do better than that then don't make a fracking series. cut the story down to a mini series. -
My DVR is usually cluttered starting in September as most shows begin their new seasons. That lasts for a few months, and then repeats or some other interruption. Will be good to have Caprica starting then - not unlike what has happened with 24 in past years.
-
They pulled this shit, with BSG, on a regular basis; and it only stood to reason that Caprica would go the same way. It's the main reason I've never bothered to watch the show. Eick and Moore are dead to me.
-
it had on a lot of viewers. And I could be wrong, but aren't the episodes already in the can? The only reason to not show them is the "brain"trust at the network.
-
Splitting 20 episode first seasons into two parts split up by an entire year? How do they expect me to remember everything that happened? I mean, lost was one thing, I put in the effort to remember. But this show was enjoyable, but not good enough for me to commit to remembering the first half of a season a year later. Yeesh. Think about how weird the actors will feel if they get a second season. They must have shot the first season almost 3 years ago by the time the first season ends.
-
And I've watched all of BSG at least 4 times. Caprica was embarrassing.
-
It's done.
-
I went in with zero expectations and got drawn in more and more every week. If it picks up there stands a better chance the other rumored BSG prequel would be greenlit. I hope that would be a more action oriented series on the Cylon war, which is what I think people wanted with Caprica and why there is so much negativity toward the show.
-
Or was I the only one under the impression we were waiting till January?
-
I mean, seriously. These must have been in the can forever.
I assume it is canceled after these 10. -
I don't care if they decide to premier it later on, but why insist on still labeling it "season one"? Is there some advantage to this? Seasons should be based on airing, not producers or networks whims. It's just kind of confusing. Wouldn't you rather be able to say your show was entering it's second season? It makes me think of Futurama. The airing of that show's original final season was stretched out so that what was one season became two. At least, that's how I think it happened...

On Earth we call this a TV channel.
-
But I don't think it's a great enough series that it can afford to be spread out this much. Now maybe the ratings are good enough for that, but I remained on the fence whether or not I liked the show. It seems like the kind of show that people aren't clamoring for to return. If you leave people hanging long enough, they'll stop caring.

-
A television season isn't a math problem. It's not a quantifiable, measurable substance. 1.5 means "one and a half". It's nonsensical when referring to a TV season.
-
Siffy, I understand if you're nervous that your mediocre BSG spinoff will get buried with all the new fall programming coming from other networks, but either let the show stand on its own merits in October as originally planned or just say that this will be season two. This .5 season bullshit smacks of denial or arrogance on your part. I'm not sure which.
-
SyFy is going to kill the show. It had crappy ratings to begin with. Waiting almost a full year before running season 1.5 will kill it. They would do that with BSG, but BSG had great ratings and a loyal following. Caprica can't say that.
I think the show suffered too much from ADD. It doesn't know what it wants to be. Is it a family drama? Is it a mafia drama? Is it corporate drama? Is it a Matrix rip off? Is a terrorist thriller? They have all these stories going off in 18 different directions with very little holding them together. BSG could do that because they had a strong overall theme that tied the show together (a small band of human survivors trying to escape the cylons and find Earth), but Caprica has no such anchor (or not one strong enough to successfully interweave the plotlines).
I do feel bad for the actors. They are in limbo. The rest of season 1 has already been shot and they cannot make any long term plans until SyFy decides about season 2. And that may be after next year's pilot season. -
makes me wonder if there will be a second season
-
Honestly, I find the girl in the cylon body story modestly interesting, but the other subplots (the Adamas, the Amanda Graystone nuttiness, and the STO stuff) boring as hell. I have watched every episode, but I'm not watching any more.
-
Is the fat chick still stuck inside the computer system? Ah, who cares.

Wwhy the hell is no one riled about about BREAKING BAD then?
by zillabeast
That isn't going to be back till March.
-
Is a fucking amazing show. I love it
-
in March, it will be Season 4, not season 3.5, or season 1.75, or somesuch ridiculousness. Breaking Bad did not go on hiatus "for a few months" with the expectation that it would come back in the Fall with the second half of its current season.
-
Or should I say, "stillborn?"
-
If you make money by doing something, DO IT. I don't understand this Syfy 'let's chop a short season into two parts and then wait a year for the second part'. WTF good does this do them?
-
It's aborted.
-
A colorful spice with no real flavor.
-
Does the same thing with their USA shows, except the execs over there are smart enough to actually stick to their schedules. No one gets upset at AMC their seasons are shot and aired in complete blocks, not held in the can. FX has shot two seasons on one schedule and split them up, with the Shield, Damages, and Rescue Me. Of those, they've only toyed with the Shield and split one actual season into two. The others were meant as two from the start. It also help when the show has a good reputation.
-
great job guys, you are winning that bet on who is the most incompetent channel
-
The only interesting thing to me in the ending of Battlestar Galactica was the Centurions taking off in the Cylon base ship. The only interesting thing to me in Caprica is Zoe/Centurion. So..... MORE CENTURIONS, less stupid housewives, less soap opera, less whiny ass pricks.
-
But I'll have forgotten the storyline by the time it returns. This has cancelled written all over it.
-
SyFy is SHAMELESS. Aside from Caprica, they have NOTHING (although some people might like SGU or whatever, but I couldn't get into the first stargate series so didn't bother with any other versions--honestly, should i? and do any of the other stargate shows require watching the older stargate shows?)SyFy are IDIOTS because I am totally reluctant to give any one of their new shows a chance because a) most of their shows suck and b) the long breaks for the shows that are good. Its baffling to me why they can't seem to create any decent shows yet it didn't occur to them to turn Lost Room into a series? so much potential and it didn't even have a definitive ending, which would have been great if they were going to turn it into a series.
-
Lost Room was brilliant. I think Syfy made a deal with the devil and can now only produce crapOr the execs are betting on them failing
-
You can't STILL be calling this the second half of season 1. You fucking jest.
-
It was stupid when The Sopranos did it, stupide when Battlestar Galactica did it and stupid now Caprica is doing it. How about a new season of about 12 episodes at around the same time each year? Surely far more satisfying both creatively and for the viewer. Otherwise storylines are stretched out or compressed needlessly.
-
You would have thought that - fair play to SyFy - Caprica was a slightly risky proposition, much more so than Battlestar ever was, but for them then to throw in the added wrinkle of nine or ten months between episodes, that just seems like 'smoking' your own product. Won't these guys ever learn that it pays to give your shows some actual...you know...support?
-
Jack Black is right when he says our DVR's will be too cluttered in September to take on another show, especially one like Caprica that is in NO way appointment television and episodes could go unwatched for weeks, taking up valuable memory space on my crappy as hell comcast DVR. As for casey mc, he is right about Syfy being a stupid company that doesn't ever give it's viewers what they ask for, like a Lost Room series, or even live up to the commitments they made to their audience, like when they cancelled the already green-lit fifth season of their best show ever, Farscape, becuase THEY f-ed up and put it in the most erratic and very changing timeslots, while also never even replaying reruns of the episodes during the looooonnnnnnggggg breaks between seasons. They also almost dropped the ball again with BSG's final 10 eps after the writers strike, though except for the mutiney storyline, most of those eps were highly dissappointing and not as well thought out as I'd hoped.

Warehouse 13 is an almost decent show, but the premise makes no
by prestigeworldwide
Okay, so apparently, there's this government warehouse in the mid-west that holds seemingly millions of artifacts, most from famous creative people, that all have different magical powers. First off, from the sheer size of the warehouse, which is showed to be nearly overflowing with these kinds off objects, they never explain how the artifacts recieved magic powers in the first place, and if there were really that many magically artifacts that had incredible powers to be found anywhere, wouldn't they be impossible to hide from the public? I mean, at least the Lost Room somewhat explained the objects in that story, at least where they came from and how they received their powers (though the sudden end of the miniseries only gave us answers about why these things were there, and not what the God incident was that imbued them with magic powers, which had the mini been made into a show, the writers would have appartently focused on that question). W13 just throws the audience into this world were magic is seemingly so abundant that there have been 12 previous giant warehouses that were filled with other artifacts throughout history. If there were really that many magical objects, and magic in general on the level that the show suggests, then it would be impossible to keep secret from the public. Then we have the two lead agents, who aren't very interesting, and the guy agent hams it up to the point where he's nearly unbearable to watch. The newer young girl hacker agent actully started off as the best part of the show when she was an ambigous loner who wasn't afraid to hurt Artie to get what she wanted, but as soon as she joined the team, her personality (especially her cliched one-liners) became the most annoying part of the show. The only one who does anything worth watching on Warehouse 13 is Saul Reubenik's Artie character, and by extension the CCH Pounder character as well. While I still watch this show, I am only giving it another ep or two to turn things around for me and hopefully become something worth my time. If this H G Wells storyline does something original and exciting, then I will stay til the end. At least Eureka has mixed things up with the time travel componet for it's five leads. I actully am interested in having Fargo run GD, and I like the Deupty Andy character, who should have joined the cast last season.
-
or less. Fuckers. I hate the Syfy channel and have decided just to wait til the boxset comes out. Fuck you syfy! Could ya treat this show and its fans any worse?
-
Show short or half seasons, wait a year, rinse, repeat. Same shit with Eureka, W13. I guess screwing the BSG viewers was so good for Syphy, they just have to keep doing it.
-
They need to cancel it and move on -- the ratings were bad anyway. BSG's ending sucked, so why bother giving this piece of shit a chance?
-
to find its legs or an audience. Season 1 of Farscape was all over the place but that show turned out to be one of SciFi's best. Same for WB and Buffy. But back then those networks were new and taking chances. Look what's happened to both when they stop. WB = gone. Sci-fi re-branded but mostly crappy shows and even worse movies. But that is what is most profitable to them. They know Caprica fans will wait while they try and crunch numbers and figure out if us dedicated sci-fi nerds will make them a profit that justifies the cost of the show. Suck it up, renew Caprica already syfy - you're at comiccon with it and you know you're going to anyways or face fan hell. Offset it with the profit of your horrible "original" B movies.

With the first FAT CHICK comment of the talkback.

And yes, it's the Syph now, as in, sometimes it burns when I watch.
-
Hahahaha, yeah, because it deserved it. I can't remember being so disappointed in a show. It started out so strongly and then... tanked. Should've been cancelled after season 3, if not sooner.
-
I mean, I like Caprica, and don't wish for it to be canceled, but think about the Cylon War as a series. We'd get space battles, battlestars, base stars, cylon raiders, troopers vs centurion firefights, vipers, Husker Adama, little girl Admiral Cain in the rubble, and epic battles on and in orbit above the variety of worlds that are the 12 colonies and their moons. And whose to say they don't add some new vehicles and technology to both the cylon and colonial militaries, so it would give the battle scenes a larger scope and more variety? Sure it will be more expensive, but it could be such a massive hit. Instead of making another two or three Havens, Eurekas, and Warehouse 13's, they could spend it on one Cylon War. As long as they don't go as deep with the religious/spiritual stuff that was in BSG, but instead focus on the war and the political aspects, it could potentially draw in a bigger audience than BSG and Caprica combined.
-
Seriously. Great channels have been destroyed by much lesser "reality" programming. Now they have some fat, annoying scam artist (read:psychic) show. Pretty soon it'll be like MTV, far far away from it's original purpose/name. And isn't there already a place for horrible (new)Corman films? Red Box? Netflix? Next up on "Own Shadow Hunters"....everyone jumps when one guy says he heard something. They discuss it long enough to get everyone to agree they heard it. Record as "evidence". Repeat.
-
...Maybe they're hoping everyone will forget how shitty the show really was. Or maybe they're hoping everyone will forget about it entirely and then they'll silently reboot the show with new actors & story. And then they'll begin marketing it (again) as a BSG spin-off. *crosses fingers*
-
Listening to it now.
-
the network that burns when you watch it. Or SkifFy - Imagine Spader (will show up in a made for TV movie here eventually)
-
Interesting idea. A movie about Husker Adama's war adventures made specifically for download from Xbox Live. At that rate, maybe there could be a FPS/fighter sim game could be made and released in conjunction with the movie?
-
Kill yourself if you think that's fat.
I love Caprica. Naturally SyFy wants to kill it, but not before they squeeze every dollar out of it. -
Don't forget, he also said that they were discussing the possibility of it also serving as a Back Door Pilot for a series. Sounds promising as long as there is an adequate budget. Case in point: The Razor Flashbacks from RAZOR. The first two appeared to have a cheaper budget and then you could tell when the production values went significantly up at Flashback #3 through #7. It has to have a budget.
-
I watched half of the first season of Caprica and I have to say that I'm not really digging this whole, "Space Soap Opera version of Melrose Place/Knots Landing/Dynasty" crap. The daughter (Zoe Graystone) was a straight up bitch, then when her personae was transfered into a Cylon, she was a vulnerable manipulative bitch; Eric Stolz needs to grow a pair of balls; and Esai Morales should be in a better series. Why is SyFy (or as I use to call it - SciFi) trying to push this on us? I wan't a space drama with action - not a space soap opera with maybe three minutes of action. Oh, and by the way Syfy - Canada isn't a planet. Stop being cheap and having every science fiction show you produce take place in some Ontario nature trail (yeah, I'm talking about your cheap-ass "Flash Gordon" show too: Mongo shouldn't look like Sascatchuan!!!

supertoyslast said: "How about a new season of about 12 episodes at around the same time each year? Surely far more satisfying both creatively and for the viewer. -
Reelheed said: "That's called SEASON 2 you idiots... You can't STILL be calling this the second half of season 1. You fucking jest."Actually, it IS called Season one, and that's not only because SyFy says it is--its also season one because we have only seen half of the complete intended arc for season one. If you're calling the talkbackers idiots for calling this season one, then you're the idiot and don't realize it.
-
I figured it had been canceled since normal shows don't take half a year or so in between episodes of the same season.
-
Was great. 'The event' which created the lost room reminds me of Lost's 'The Incident'. They should do a 'New Lost Room' only this time go straight to series. 'Warehouse 13' is mildly entertaining but by no means original or good. In other words its much like 'Voyager'.

not saying you are this kind of person, i haven't read enough of your posts, but that post is a prime example of people who claimed to be BSG fans but only praised episodes if they had guns, spaceship battles and things blowing up. The show was never about that and those who claimed to be fans are so transparent when it comes to what they considered was a good episode of BSG. Characters Characters Characters--that's what made BSG great and what made caprica solid. Go to the bookstore and read some science fiction novels--sci fi has never been about action--ever.

I love all kinds of science fiction. The original BSG was all about space battles, and I loved that in the second series. I enjoyed all aspects of New BSG. The writing was great.

...but the boardroom intrigue seems forced and inconsequential, Amanda's psychological problems seem like a retread of 15 other shows, and none of it seems to matter.
Someone might get control of Daniel's sports team? Daniel's company holds a board meeting? A killer robot, whose existence might mean the end of humanity, escapes from a virtually unguarded private home by internet dating? Really??
It's taken an entire half season just to find out that the person who originally developed the chip that powers the internet dating cylon is kind of upset.
All of the characters are too mild, except for Joseph Adama and he just seems unhinged. The weird film noir video game subplot didn't seem to matter (did it really need 3 or 4 episodes?). And the church of the One seems too full of intrigue and not full enough of belief.
I want to like the show and some of what I've seen is nicely detailed, but, in general, the writers seem to be making it up as they go along and don't even seem to be sure how it gets to the Cylon War, much less passed the next conference call at Greystone Industries. -
intellectual sci fi. It's really not. It's a sci fi soap at the most.

LIKE THEY ARE USED TO WAITING FOR SOMETHING INTERESTING TO HAPPEN IN THAT HORRIBLY DULL SHOW!
-
Neither know how to nurture a good idea. Or if they stumble on one, it's a one off, mini-series, or it's a British import. With the exception of BSG, and even that show they started to screw up in the last season, their best ever show was "Farscape".
-
...and hopefully gather more viewers on the way into the remaining episodes (which I must agree are not 1.5 - if anything they're the second .5). Since I haven't watched a minute of the show, if they do this I may give it another shot. Depends on what it will be up against, I suppose.
-
I nearly completely gave up on the show waiting for something to actually happen, and now I've got it confirmed that I don't need to ever worry about it again. Such a damn shame. I think the run up to the first cylon war could have been awesome. ( That is if they had ever intended to go there, which we all know they wouldn't because that would involve you know.... a real story and real writing )

i went into a public bathroom, looked into the toilet seat and some idiot left a CRAPRICA and forgot to flush.

what was the point of that storyline where they go into that game where you can get killed to look for adama's daughter? I was looking forward to a totally bad ass queen of the underworld Tamara, wtf happened? (seriously, I forgot what happened, I just know it was all a waste of time)
