Hey kids, Harry here at Comic Con… and about the time you’re reading this, I’m sitting and chatting with Stallone & nearly a half ton of cinematic testosterone in HALL H for a large excited audience and I mentioned in my introduction that in addition to being the Editor-In-Chief of AINT IT COOL NEWS, that I have entered into an agreement with Philip Kim – the owner of the Famous Monsters empire to be the Editor –In-Chief of FAMOUSMONSTERS.Com – and that AintItCool will be presenting and running FAMOUS MONSTERS’ web presence.

I was one of Uncle Forry's nephews, too. You're going to have people on this site who never read FM, who may not know who Forry was, or even have seen many of the films he celebrated. I remember, though. FM was the first magazine about 'imagimovies' I ever read, and Forry was at the first con I ever went to, in 1981, at the age of 10. I remember he was wearing Bela Lugosi's Dracula ring. I also remember he was exactly how I imagined he'd be. I used to dream about going and touring the Ackermansion. I was bummed out beyond belief when what happened with Forry and FM happened. I'm glad it's coming back in some form, and I'm glad you're involved. You *understand*. You'll get it right. Make him proud--and hey, man, thanks for the things you do at this site too, for all of us who never want to join the dead hearts and souls called 'grownups.'

...had a bunch of issues of Famous Monsters from the early 70's that got left behind with him when his older brother moved out. Used to have fun leafing through the moldy old things, but that's the extent of my knowledge of all thinks Famous Monsters, sadly. Well congrats Harry! Oddly enough,I've been going through a Universal Monsters phase here recently. I just got the chance to go to Universal Studios Hollywood for the first time,and was dismayed at the lack of classic Monsters featured in the park. On my way out I wound up popping in at Things From Another World at Universal City Walk and saw way more UM stuff than the park had. The manager caught me checking out the stuff and we both lamented the fact that Universal no longer had any love for the classic monsters. Hell,I've been searching for a forum or a website for the past week where I could hang out and geek out about the classics and now...it looks like the perfect site is on the way. Keep us updated Harry...very excited about where this could lead!

I've had to contain my excitement about this announcement for weeks now, as Harry told me about it during his near death, steriod-fueled recovery. As the fan world turns, I played a small part in this great saga by suggesting to my Wonderfest compatriots that we invite Harry as a guest to Wonderfest this year. What started as a chance to introduce Harry to Wonderfest regular Bob Burns turned into a chance to introduce Harry to Joe Moe. That's right! Harry and Yoko waited patiently outside the Old Dark Clubhouse while I scrambled to get Donnie Waddell to unlock the door to this Monster Kid Heaven. Nobody was there at the time, so we hung out for a minute until Joe Moe arrived and I INTRODUCED THEM! They had spoken on the phone, but never in person, so I'm somewhat giddy that I played a small, fly-on-the-wall part in this new chapter in the Famous Monsters story. I'm a diehard Monster Kid. Over the last 24 hours I've scoured the Classic Horror Boards reading Halloween memories, watched a bootleg of the 1961 "Shadow of the Cat", checked DoomBuggies.com for Haunted Manion collectibles and chated on the Universal Monster Army website (which I highly recommend). I trust Harry with the keys to the monster kingdom as long as remembers not to drink blood and drive. I've been creeping around the halls of AICN for 12 years, attended 10 BNATS and a couple Fantatasic Fests, and this is my proudest day as a AICN fan, and I want to say it loud and clear in Talkbacks to all of you. Congratulations, Harry! Long Live Famous Monsters of Filmland!

If you think you've found a way to make Famous Monsters relevant instead of simply aping Forry for nostalgia's sake then I'm thrilled. But to me, his final message to you was to work tirelessly to keep the community alive and excited in your own way. In recent years you haven't had the drive to keep your single weekly DVD blurb column on track. You have the potential to be much, much more. This place has far more brand recognition than Famous Monsters does in 2010. Put the work into making Ain't It Cool everything it can be too. AICN was there at the dawn of the internet, and was revolutionary. But it hasn't grown. There is a HUGE void left on the internet. There should be a place as accessible, informative and respected as IGN, but with all the humor and passion and other human qualities of AICN. Congratulations on your new venture. I'm excited to see what you have in store for us. But please don't let your love of Forry's legacy detract from building your own.

FM was my first step towards becoming a sci-fi / horror genre fan. I still remember the issue, with the Incredible Melting Man on the cover. I loved that it showed us all of this cool stuff going on right then with the movies as well as the classics, but always did it in a playful tone. That tone is what stuck with me the most. It wasn't about torture porn, it was about sharing some cool stuff with us with a wink to not be scared. I can't think of anyone that could do a better job then you, Harry. Congratulations and looking forward to it.

This is terrific news, Harry! As a kid who grew up salivating for every next issue of FM, this is the site I've been waiting for. Still have my whole FM collection, including issue #1...my favorite was the issue that told you how to do the Weird-Ohs model make-up, since I was a huge fan of Hawk's creations. I still have every Weird-Oh, Silly Surfer and Frantic model made, many still unopened. The geek child in me is THRILLED.

I got to visit Forry back in the late 80s. It was always a lot of fun. I would have done just about anything to get my hands on the big painting of Vincent Price that was on the staircase and I just loved going into the basement. <p> This is oddly very appropriate. There is the sort of symmetry in this one very rarely sees in life. <p> Good luck.

I only got a couple of issues of the original back in its' day, but I am so glad to see that it is seriously being started up again and with EXPERT people running it. Ever since my youthful interest in the classic monster and 50s scifi movies was restarted when I turned 50, it has been a pleasure to relive, to the extent possible, those youthful pleasures of Shock theater, Terminus theater, Aurora monsters, etc. And now I can experience the magazine, being edited similarly and with real zealots, that I missed when I was younger. Good luck and you can count on me being a subscriber.

I had the great fortune to meet Forry at SDCC a couple years ago. He was in poor health and could barely speak, but he signed a FM poster featuring him on the "cover" for me and I told him "Thank you, Uncle Forry, for corrupting me as a kid with monsters and spaceships." His eyes suddenly were bright and alive and he dropped his pen and shook my hand (much to the surprise of me and his handler). And that's what Famous Monsters of Filmland is, Harry. I discovered FM during the summer of '77 when Star Wars came out. I was so hungry for ANYTHING printed about Star Wars that I found a "comic book" shop in Orange County, CA. At that point, I not only bought Starlog and Cinefantastique, but I also bought FM. It was from that point forward that I was drawn into Forry's World. And I LOVED it! I've never looked back. I'm so hopeful into looking what you do for Forry's legacy. And it's quite a legacy. Show me what you can do, oh Furry One!

And while I will probably get killed for saying this here, love that you intend to keep FAMOUS MONSTERS fully "family friendly". There isn't much of that "out there" anymore, and if we really want the classic characters to keep a following in the years ahead, the only way is to introduce them to those "coming up". The idea of a family friendly monster site? Outstanding.

Sorry, I meant very best. I know that Forry would be happy that you are carrion, um, carrying on his work. One of my favorite childhood memories is my Dad taking me to the local newwstand to pick up the latest issue of Famous Monsters of Filmland. And I still have every issue to this day. Keep Forry's vision intact my friend. The kind of magazine that scares the parents, but is clean and friendly to small children who may grow up to be the next generation of horror filmmakers. Just look at the legacy Forry left.
