HOLY FUCK!!!!
I am there opening night....
FUCKIN' A BATMAN..... -
in my pants...
-
Weird floating CGI head bullshit. It looks worse than that Orville Redenbacher commercial. Why have they released this when the effects are so clearly unfinished?
-
It's like I'm watching the Scorpion King.
-
make a car in air car...sweeeetttttt
-
But I'm not even going to watch the trailer. I've heard enough and seen enough about this movie to know I'll love it, now it's about not wanting to have it spoiled by seeing too much.
Oh for the days of trailers only hinting at what we'll get. -
Didn't grab me like the last one, and the CG deaging looks obvious but good-can imagine it will be flawless by release!
-
Some of us who still enjoy the movie-going experience dodge the trailers. Thanks for the fucking spoiler.
-
... At the moment. Hopefully it will improve a great deal before release. I'm still amazed that they've put it in the trailer in this state though. They could've shown anything else from this movie and got away with it, made a good trailer, etc. That CGI head stuff is not even remotely impressive. It doesn't even look as if it's attached to the fucking body.
-
one small niggling bit where Clu 2.0's lips and facial movements just aren't quite there.
That apart, HOLY FUCKING SHIT IN A CHANDELIER ... I'm there on opening day and if the budget will stretch to it, IMAX at the O2 in London. -
Please don't Phantom Menace us again, please? Please??
-
I don't see it, where?
-
Really looks awesome!!!
-
Until Now!
I hoped it would be good, now I'm expecting it to be. -
Now it's entirely possible the story could just not hold up and the characterization be weak (Im still very worried about Hedlund), but these trailers really showcase what seems to be some incredible world building and it looks to be a totally reverential successor to the original. Given what little we know Im not really sure what could possibly be better at this juncture.
-
No woman is that hot.
-
Tron was a fave from my childhood.... this is going to be pretty fucking spectacular!
-
They're going to fix the CG Jeff Bridges, right?
-
if you enjoy going to the movies? Paradox.
-
Show somebody that clip in 1999 and they'll shit their pants. imagine the efx work they'll be able to do in 2020. Everybody's so de-sensitized now. Kinda like how i have to watch a guy in a bear suit bang sluts to get off in porno nowadays.
-
It looks like it’s supposed to be the map of the Great Underground Empire that Sam and his father sketched out while playing “Zork” in 1981.
-
Friggin' gorgeous.
-
Olivia Wilde and Serinda Swan in tight leather???YUMMY!!!
-
is for you talkbackers; you're watching/viewing/reading everything they come up with to promote the movie, and you'll see the movie in DECEMBER and feel like you're watching everything you've already seen edited together. I hope that's enough for all of you. I'm not watching this trailer, and I assume most of you that did watch this trailer were already set on seeing the movie. We've seen enough. Now you're just playing along with the marketing game, and it might unfortunately prevent you from having a fresh, full-effect first-time viewing experience.
-
How is that a spoiler? Did you watch the trailer? If so then you have no right to complain unless you just want to cry about something. Plus, why even click the link.
-
Look at the weird-ass, pedophile smirk he gives the camera at 1:09. He looks like a robot from The Polar Express.

LET'S BE REALLY HONEST HERE.... THE CG SIMPLY ISN'T THERE YET
by greigy just wanted to say
Undeniably looks fake... your eye can tell...

Do you risk the horrors? DO YOU??

if you watched that trailer and all you've come away with is "CGI Jeff Bridges looks like the Scorpion King."

If you're gonna see any movie in 3D, this would be the one...
by somerichs
don't fuck it up, Disney!
-
They just reeled my goofy ass in on opening night.
-
Jaded and dead.
-
"I can risk my life to get to somewhere so my father can find me. Or I can stay here with you, Olivia Wylde? Hmmm. You got anything to drink around here?"
-
That looks really bad. Why have they made Jeff Bridges look like a reanimated corpse?
-
needs more work. give 10 to 15 years. I am also going to make a prediction. that all non cgi/3d films will be made in hd. and that all films will be converted into blu-ray. all film projectors which arent 3d/cgi will be blu ray.
-
rolling my eyes thinking what WB-movie is this shit? Then they showed Flynn's. I am now officially excited. They had better deliver! (Or I will be sad.)
-
Cool trailer. I just hope the story is good. I really want this to be something special.
-
I loved the first trailer. Really exciting and well-boding. This one was pretty good, seems to flesh out the story more. We'll see.
-
In the first trailer it was totally convincing. This time around it looks like Clu has a weird botox-caused facial tick.
-
i'm a sucker for Tron. this will be fun
-
The Wrath of Tron. Sounds like fun.
-
Like if he's a computer program or some sort of computer generated illusion in the world, maybe they did the "slightly wrong" CGI look on purpose. Just a thought. Either way I'm seeing this thing- looks fucking slick.
-
“I CAN TELL FROM SOME OF THE PIXELS AND FROM SEEING QUITE A FEW CG'D HEADS IN MY TIME.” ------ Blow it out your asses collective talkbackers.
-
I really can't get over how bad that looked when he smiled by the door.
-
Me and millions of people have no idea what Tron is besides nerds in blue suits.
-
If there is going to be Catwoman in Batman 3, Olivia Wilde must be the frontrunner. She only needs to say "Meow" and I swear I'd jizz my pants.
-
you're gonna bitch about a couple of glitches on the cgi head after seeing THAT! WOW just fucking WoW. Get ready to be disappointed a lot in life.
-
Clu is a computer program. Living in a computer world. So what if he looks (god forbid) computer generated?
-
can I see it NOW please?
-
But surely that's why they've gotten Pixar involved in the last couple of weeks? (http://bit.ly/aM0lPc) I would assume the footage here predates that.
-
That's who it reminds me off.
-
So people here are bitching about bad computer animation on a character that is a (possibly corrupted) computer program? I hope I'm not the only one who can see the irony.
-
It'll be flawless and gorgeous gothic masterpiece all true to the original art for the mansion.. then he'll bow to studio pressure and put in an Eddie Murphy cameo. Then Tim Burton slits his wrists in frustration and Gilliam and Jean-Pierre Jeunet decide it's time to sweep through Disney matrix morphius rescue style. Just do it right this time toro
-
Denial stage is in full swing. a few weeks after release is when everyone will change their tune and talk about how they fucked up a beloved franchise, blah blah.
-
I'm referring to the young prof.x from X3...not the cg abortion from wolverine origins. This version of Jeff looked okay in the bedroom talking to his young son, but the later version looked creepy and just flat out bad. I really hope this is tweaked a lot more before release. Everything else though looks awesome I must say. I'd rather not have heard that spoiler though.
-
It's far from a couple of glitches. It's distractingly bad. That they've put this in the trailer suggests that they think they've done a good job. They haven't.
-
I'm missing the original look of tron, which cam about unexpectedly as a result of the limitations of the original process, but it looks tron in modern times I guess. The CG Bridges is spooky, not in a good way, the lip movement looks fake, eyes look dead, although it may suit the theme. I don't think this will be great, the original wasn't that great really, at the end of the day might be fun to watch.
-
It's just got that plasticy feel to it, not quite there yet - i can buy it if they explain it in the movie somehow (as he's Flynn's program) but i'll still feel cheated.
-
You watch an amazing trailer for what will surely be an amazing film and all you have to moan about is that the cutting edge effects work, that looks amazing, isn't 100% photo realistic. Serisouly, fuck off and die you negative whiney bitches. God forbid you actually take your head out of your ass and admit something is cool, rather than trying to be cool yourself by bashing it. Cunts.
-
Flynn isn't a computer program. He's supposed to be a real person.
-
based on an early trailer? For fuck sake, have you learned nothing? Do you honestly think this trailer--no doubt rushed to get something to the fans for this weekend--represents the completely finished effects for this film? That all the folks who worked on the CGI for this movie are just gonna sit around with their proverbial thumbs up their proverbial asses for the next 4 months, doing nothing to continue refining the effects work? Seriously?
-
I sure used the word amazing a lot.... amazing.
-
He's not talking about Flynn. Watch the original if you don't know who that other one is suppose to be.
-
Whilst I'm still excited as it looks incredible, that CG head just wasn't quite there and was a major distraction for me in that trailer. Pulled me out of it a little. It was state of the art until that 'whoah, wait!! That was weird" moment.

Here's how they should approach CG de-aged heads....
by fat_rancor_keeper
It seems like they SHOULD NOT BE GOING ALL CG just yet. Why can't the mouth movements just be blended in from a real actor standing there - and the same with the eyes? Just get a lookalike to perform the scene in full and then layer the CG face over the actor. All they need to do then is leave in the real eyes and mouth from the live actor, since they clearly haven't nailed that part down just yet. The rest can be layered CG.
-
Count me in on opening night.
-
But they obviously think it's good enough to show us, no? Does that not seem like a cause for concern re: quality control? In other words, do they actually think that this looks good?
-
I liked it alot, whatever it was.
-
I think it looks fantastic. It might have been a little off but not OH MY FUCKING GOD bad. Jaded. Pure and simple. Now Transformers 2...that was a CGI abortion.
-
Yeah, something like that would be better I think. They've never got the eyes right.
-
THIS looks like one killer film! I am chomping at the bit to see this! THis might be the best Xmas present this year!

Clu looks horrrrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiibbbbbbbbblllllllle this time
by silentp
That's pretty disappointing. Looked so awesome in those milliseconds of footage from the first trailer, but it was painful to watch here. Movie still looks badass though. Can't wait.
-
Smiles like the Ash head in Alien when it gets disconnected.
-
\m/ \m/
-
They actually were able to CGI a young Jeff Bridges that only looks slightly off from reality, and despite how cool that is and what an amazing movie trick, we are supposed to complain that it isn't 100% perfect like a real young Bridges would look? I think the effect and cool-factor of having Clu in the film AND an older Flynn is well worth any little imperfections. What do you want from these people? The very fact that this project is being made and looks 99% awesome is worth going to see it if you liked Tron. No CGI is gonna be perfect anyhow... in the fun spirit of the original film, cut this one some slack and try to enjoy what they have created here.
-
I just figured it was a really bad de-ageing job! I have no complaint here.
-
You should be demanding more really.
-
Young Jeff is FUCKING horrible to look at ..... stop defending that utter shit.
-
If it's not quite there in a movie where everything else is utterly jaw dropping then it just calls attention to itself. Having said that it's just the trailer. We'll see how it looks at Xmas.
it all looked so good still he started talking. -
Objectively speaking when CLu talks it doesnt look natural. And you know what, it doesnt really bother me, cause i dont think they could have cast the role with a younger actor when we have the first film out there, so the CGI young Jeff Bridges, which looks amazing when it isnt moving, is the lesser of the evils. I could see how it would bother some, but practically thinking this is what the filmmakers had to work with and if this was the most interesting story tot ell then I support some wonky CGI.
-
I can't believe people are ok with how embarrassing that looks. You pathetic fucking clowns amuse me. I'm so much better than you.
-
Thanks geetar, the eyes really seem to be an issue too - I agree.
I'm pumped for it regardless. To others on here crying - People just saying the CG head looks a bit shitty isn't a knock on the whole film. Maybe it's not quite done yet though like some have suggested....hopefully. The human face is very hard to nail down with a computer. If you think about it the face is what you often see on people. Most folks faces have little slight ticks, we blink fast, we blink slow, sometimes we might just subtly move our lips a bit or eyebrows, there's little imperfections here and there....etc... DE-aged CG faces NEVER take all those little things into account and what we end up with is a weird dead look. Basically, the person is only animated when they talk. Try keeping your face totally still, talking and then going back to being totally still again. People will think you are fucking insane or some kind of a robot. I really dig the idea of CG actors though and hope they perfect it to the point that it fools the eye. There is so much potential there - like we saw in Benjamin Button. -
At some point there has to be some slack cut tot he filmmaker when it comes to CGI. EVERYTHING else looks to be in place in a HEAVILY CGI film, one things is off, fine whatever, but be reasonable.
-
Or maybe it's B.O.B. but he's in there to the left of the two toy lightcycles at the beginning of the trailer... :-)
-
Yay!
-
I'm picking up your sarcasm.
-
Just wondering... Do we get to see a youthacized Bruce Boxleitner too? Be kind of funny if the Tron character wasn't in the movie at all.
-

It looks fake, but not as much so as the Avatar trailer...
by duckenheimer
...and we all know how that turned out. There were some dissenters, but most people were blown away by the effects.
And the CG Arnie in T4 looked way worse. -
I only watched the small yahoo trailer, so maybe I'm speaking out of turn, but it didn't look all that bad to me. That aside, the intent of the trailer is not SOLELY to show off the CGI. It also highlights the story and characters, to name but two other important elements. And I don't think you can assume "they obviously think it's good enough to show us," either. This is one of the most anticipated "geek" films of the last 20 years, opening in December. There's no way in hell they could let Comic Con go by and not give the fans a trailer. Ready or not, they had to put it out there. So, if you ("you" the general geek, not "you" geetar. Necessairly)can't forgive some foibles in the effects at this early stage, that you know will be fixed before the final version comes out in theaters, for the sake of getting a longer look at a much-anticipated--and pretty got-damn cool looking, I might add--flick during comic-con, then you (again, the general "you") are the worst kind of douche excuse for a "geek."
-
I'm being deadly serious actually. If people think that CG head shit looks acceptable then they take themselves out of the game. People who think that looks good, or that the intention behind it somehow makes it all ok, are fucking idiots.
-
you already know the name of the character? I've watched the trailers and have never heard his name. Take a deep breath, step back, rewatch the trailer. Can you tell me what emotion the cgi flynn is feeling from a single frame of his face? Now go look at the real Jeff Bridges shots. I think you see my point.
If you don't, then by all means, enjoy watching Beowulf for the 20th time. -
I don't think it's unreasonable to comment if something just looks bad. Not one person here is saying they are not seeing the film because of some weak CG work, we're only saying it can probably be better. I don't get why just saying that is making some people become enraged and cursing up storms as if someone shit in their mother's mouths.
-
I just shit myself a little..
-
Call me a hater, or whatever term webkidz use these days, but Tron stands fine on its own. This movie will not exist in my dojo barring majorly positive reviews... Fuck reboots/remakes and other destroyers of childhoods...
-
Low def, 12" sceeen, the head looks fine. I guess I'll have to wait to see what it looks like on the big screen to become a bitter old nerd.
-
To paraphrase Jeff Goldblum from "Jurassic Park":
Uh, there is going to be a character named "Tron" in the movie "Tron:Legacy," right?
I really hope they haven't gone for the "Rinzler is really Tron except corrupt or undercover or a clone or [fill in not-so-exciting twist here]" angle that a lot of people have speculated.
This movie is 15 years too late for me. Heck, I probably would've been excited about this 10 years ago if the storyline was fresh but now... Now I'm just waiting for the game tie-in and hoping that Disney learned it's lesson from last time and releases the SDK instead of having their game die on the vine. -
The Choppah has found us out!

^^ Well said. I totally agree. Now if they are going for a slightly surreal/bizarre look then they have nailed it. However if they are going for photo-realism they have failed. Even when CG Jeff steps back and keeps staring at his son (or not his son, whatever) he keeps staring mindlessly but really who walks backward like that and maintains an emotionless dead stare? And who do you know that keeps their head perfectly still while talking? These are very basic things that should be addressed if one is attempting to portray a realistic human being on film amidst flesh and blood actors.Even the worst actor in the world will look full of emotion next to this plastic soulless version of Jeff Bridges. -
"You guys obviously know nothing about cinema." Okay...what in the fuck does someone's opinion on a shitty CG face have to do with their knowledge of cinema?
-

I love the fact that Star Wars basically failed us...
by spectrebeeyatch
And pretty much every attempt to revamp cool franchises fails. The only exception being Batman and Bond. But seriously I never thought they could make another Tron movie and make it cool. These guys have proved me wrong. If I could I'd buy midnight tickets now.
-
But is TRON LEGACY and everyone associated with it gay? That's what we straight fellas really want--really NEED--to know.
-
But they could've done a trailer without the CG Bridges. Keep the beginning, don't show the 'by-the-door' shot, then action, then Wilde, then glimpses of Clu (as in the first trailer - no talking), then old Flynn, maybe some more Wilde (couldn't hurt), then that upside down stuff, then logo, then that last shot of Clu (which is fine - no talking/c.u.). But they didn't. They chose to show this stuff. And not just show it but arguably show it off. The CG Bridges stuff is the centrepiece of the trailer. And it's... not very good. I think the reaction is a bit O.T.T. on both sides but I would say that this trailer is far from successful. I'm saddened because thus far they've gotten everything spot on. Here's hoping that there will be a huge leap in quality between now and Christmas.
-
Are you fucking high?!
Yes the cgi head looks like a cgi head, but how far are we off from release? Pretty far, in CG terms anyway. So I expect this does not necessarily reflect the final films effects quality.
Not that I find the cgi Dude a big deal myself anyway, you guys ever heard of suspension of disbelief? Jesus... -
I am even more pumped now! Love everything I'm seeing. As far as the CGI Jeff Bridges, sure it doesn't look entirely life-like, but I don't think it's supposed to. I think they were shooting for a somewhat distorted, corrupted computer facsimile generated by the rogue program. I like it. Looks every bit as good as the "de-aging" process they used on Prof. X and Magneto in X-Men 3 (and that was decent).
-
was photorealism, a snippet or two of earlier Jeff Bridges performances, composited and color corrected, whould have probably sufficed. Looks like you see Flynn from the back most of that scene, anyways.
-
From Olivia Wilde!
-
I want a sequel to CONDORMAN!
-
Make it so!
-
the whole "younger jeff" was shown in that teaser they showed at comic-con last year, the one that was made before they even had a movie. so unless you managed to never see that or the previous trailer, how can "i am not your father" be a surprise?
-
Sure, we'd all love head from Olivia, but I don't want it to look all fake. I want to believe she's REALLY giving me head.
-
I only care if it's a good movie. Christ. The first movie looked fucking retarded even when it came out... but it was fun, and that's all that mattered.
-
This look like it's just following the mold of darker is better. Well, it's not. Fuck Disney.
-
It could also be explained away as a programming defect of some sort? Like he's a first generation Tron, and these new Trons are all jacked up and awesome. Either way, it's sooo not a dealbreaker. ALL of this looks awesome. I REALLY hope it's at least good. I don't need or expect a masterpiece, just good would be fine. Good would be nice. It'd be fine. Good. Good is good. Make it good. JUST MAKE IT GOOD!!!
-
...can give numerous intelligent reasons why they feel it looks bad...but everyone who apparently feels otherwise can give zero reasons why it looks good?
-
Who the fuck care if he looks real or not. Losers.
-
What was the purpose? So we could all get it out of our systems early and lower our expectations that a major character is compromised?
no way Disney didn't know they'd get flamed in the talkbacks. -
MUST SEE! my money is yours
-
.... but now this trailer has "flipped me over and done me dry". That CGI work is an utter turd... Benjamin Button looked far better than this... this CGI work is going backwards man. Fuck all CGI... I hate hate hate it!!!!!
-
He's digital, so they get a pass. The problem with digital Flynn isn't the look. The look is perfect. It's that old corpse thing again. Not sure why they couldn't get close to the work in Avatar, but I'm not going to bitch because they have a LOT of time to work on it before release and the look of it all is PERFECT with that tiny exception of the digital humans that are SUPPOSED to be digital.
-
Jul 22, 2010 5:32:17 PM CDT
Yeah, the CG head is a little off-kilter. Creepy? Sure.
by colonelfatheart
It may not be the intention of the filmmakers, but it actually worked for me that way. Could be some improvement. Never saw the original TRON, but I'm guessing I should since I like what I've seen from this so far.
-
Jul 22, 2010 5:32:36 PM CDT
If you hadn't known he was CG, you wouldn't have guessed...
by burnhollywood
We're very close to a movie with an older actor being allowed to play a younger version of himself (or herself), and only a few years away form "resurrecting" some dead actors.
-
And if it's from Olivia then fake, realistic, what's the difference.
-
that music sounded like Hans Zimmer phoning it in, so generic and lame. I really hope it's only a temp track as it sounded nether daft nor punk.
-
...El Duderino.
-
He didn't look real in the flashback at the beginning either. I'm not saying it's awful or anything. Just not good enough for it to have been worth it based on that evidence. Especially when the rest of it looks so good.
-
I can't wait.
-
the matrixes' render engine to bend the rules so much. Tron's render doesn't require graphics nearly this good. Cindy morgan's digital tits make an appearance in this. They were able to cast them from a mold taken for a deleted caddyshack dream sequence. Then a digital scan was taken of the mold.
-
Why do retards keep saying that it's ok that it looks shit because Flynn is a program? Seriously, I feel like a fucking God around here.

fat_rancor_keeper, congrats: dumbest comment of the day
by mattmanreturns
"Numerous intelligent reasons." That's hilarious. Whether you like an effect or not is subjective. It's an opinion.
-
So your entire argument is basically that everyone here should simply not care about whatever you randomly think isn't worth a second thought? Fucking brilliant. Well close up this talkback...a retard has spoken.
-
I'm not a hater or fanboy or whatever.... I just think the CGI heads look shit!!!
-
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA. You are a fucking idiot.
-
If all the user-cloned programs talked and looked slightly off. I think I actually caught Olivia Wilde's character doing the same bad lip movements in one shot.
-
It doesn't get much worse than that CGI face.
-
He would have said 'not good enough, we need to go back to the drawing board'. You know it to be true.
alas, he's merely heading up Disney Animation looking on, knowing he'd never have given that a pass. -
Do you think the CG face is acceptable?
-
It's typically easier and more fun to complain than give praise.
Why did I think it looked good? It's convincing- simple as that. It's also a chance to see a circa 1990-ish Jeff Bridges again. Fun, imho. -
wonderful. I'm more stoked for this than Thor or GL.

SCOTT PILGRIM: EPIC FAIL
TRON LEGACY FTW -
No doubt that is cool in and of itself. I agree that aspect of it is fun. For me it's just not convincing though.

-
What are you high on? Nearly EVERYONE on here bitches about ALL of those guys, and everything else. In fact, it's rare that people DON'T bitch about everything on this site.
-
Seriously. And where the hell's JettL93 been?
-
That's just idiotic. You know exactly what I'm saying.
lasseter is obsessed with quality and isn't afraid to revamp something that isn't working. Hence him heading up a studio who make the best films in the world and now in charge of Disney Animation itself.
if he was a producer on this (and he was obsessed with Tron back in the day) he wouldn't have approved that shot in the trailer. Like I said, could turn out fine come December - but I'm not convinced. -
I was just about to post the same thing. If they lost the real-world Flynn stuff (or at least any close-ups of him) and then had every character be CG in the computer world that would be pretty cool. Then the artificial aspects would make sense. It's amazing that they didn't do this really. With the first Tron the only way you could use CG/CG looking stuff was to have the actual film set in a computer world (given the limits of the technology for rendering objects, environments, etc.). Cut to 2010 and arguably the only way you can get away with CG actors (as in humans) is to have them be in a computer world. And yet we've got this weird hybrid, where there are some real actors and some CG actors. A missed opportunity perhaps.
-
all he said was the CG Jeff head looked like shit....what else did he say to cause such an uproar?
-
I think it looks CG, but from certain angles it's an impressive effect. The head-on shot of him smiling is weird, but the shot of him smiling sideways in the bedroom is pretty good. It's not going to make or break the movie for me though... I care more about the story/characters/action. Practically every shot of the first Tron looks ridiculously fake, but the movie still works. Judging someone's intelligence based on their opinion of an effect is bullshit though, and you know it.
-
He thinks CG flynn looks good and Inception is a "snooze fest". Choppah's opinion = voided
-
You just made a sale! Congrats!
-
I'm positive that Tron: Legacy can get their de-aging to the level of X-Men: The Last Stand's first five minutes. Give it time - December is still a way's away.
TROOOOOOOOOOON!!!!! -
Just state some reasons why. If you don't care either way - you don't really matter in this case.
-
That dipshit is a probably a paid shill who thinks that more people are going to see his paymasters' bomb-to-be because he circulates around this site trolling other movies.
They should demand a refund. -
clicking on the link is a bit redundant if the link IS the spoiler. It's a line of dialogue quoted from trailer. Whether or not I click the link, I know that one version or another of Flynn is admitting to not being Sam's father. I'm not sure why I'm explaining this to you.

by fat_rancor_keeper
"Judging someone's intelligence based on their opinion of an effect is bullshit though, and you know it." Where did I judge someone's intelligence on their opinion of an effect? If you are referring to me just saying people who don't like the head gave intelligent reasons, that's literally all I meant by that. It wasn't meant as an insult toward those who do like it. I only wanted to hear some non curse word filled opinions from the other side.
-
I think by saying that you've ironically lost any sort of credibility yourself. Not that there was much after dissing Inception and now knocking the studio whose made two sequels that are arguably the two greatest sequels ever made.
you are amusing everyone though. Who is next on your hit list? Hitchcock? Kubrick? Ford? Lean perhaps? -
Don't listen to them fat_rancor_keeper. They're always being mean to me.

goodguy, how do you know it's "one version or another of Flynn?"
by jedirob
And more to the point, how do you know there is more than one version of Flynn? Ya know, if we're being all spoiler free and such.
-
the *moment* you started posting on an internet movie website about how shitty everything is. That's what adults do. ;)
-
Kubrick is Kubrick...that's that. We can't truly evaluate Nolan's career since he's still developing his art and actively working. We can however say he's already got some impressive films under his belt and is likely on his way to greatness.
-
I was clearly carrying on the Lasseter argument. He is a genius.
-
Didn't find the young Flynn head that jarring tbh. Can anyone here do better, more to the point has any FX House nailed this yet? (Terminator Salvation & Benjamin Button spring to mind). Pointless fixating on it when there's so much more to get excited about here. My only disappointment was with the absence of Daft Punk's music in the trailer (I hope that orchestral bias isn't indicative of the actual film score). Loved the first trailer cue. Decmeber can't come soon enough.
-
I can't wait for this, this looks terrific. CG Jeff Bridges looks great!
-
any word if they'll have a trailer for thor or captain america at comic-con?

The buzz is Thor (and Green Lantern) will at least have a sizzle reel if not a full trailer, it's seemingly less likely with Captain America.

by fat_rancor_keeper
I've already stated I'm still pumped for the film. I'll likely be first in line to see it. I don't think simply not liking the CG head needs misunderstood as hating the film or read as people not wanting to see it. Nor do I feel it's needlessly picky. It's just a talking point.
-
In the scene with his young son, you only see him smiling, not speaking, and it looks very real. When the Not Flynn confronts Sam, it looks uncanny and fake and creepy, which I can buy as is, because I like the story I tell myself about why. Whether or not the movie will -- we'll see. Stuff can change, too. This film has my money, regardless. Even if I end up hating it. Some things, you just have to see for yourself and never mind the noise.
-
the tough chick that is so cliche and annoying if a guy had lines like that and was smug you would want to punch him.
-
--though I suppose that I am predisposed to like it. Yeah, the CG isn't perfect, but special effects are rarely if ever perfect; Star Wars was loaded with matte lines, for example. I (and I suspect most of you) still bought (and do buy) into it.

Remember Vader with his hands chained up in the ROTS trailer?
by fat_rancor_keeper
Remember Vader with his hands chained up in the ROTS trailer? He looked incredibly dorky in that position with baby hands dangling. Sure enough by the time the movie came out they either did some slick CG work or re-shot the whole scene and his hands were at his sides. In any case I think it's safe to assume what we're seeing here may not be the final version...or if it is (the lack of realness) might be relevant to the story somehow. Like I said before the CG Jeff in real life talking to his younger son came off better than the one talking to his older son.
-
Fuck me, so much to choose from here. RedBull is the current winner though. Gee, what else would you want TRON to look like?

GOOD! I would hope a movie that takes place inside one looks like it is supposed to. Boy, that Dune movie better not look too "desert-y"!

Does EVERY son in a movie need to be called "Sam"? What's up with that?
-
Perhaps it was because the scene was so short or the lighting was simpler, but the CG in the Tron Comiccon footage from 2008 looks tremendously better then the new trailer. I completely buy it in that trailer but I don't buy the Clu scenes in the new trailer at all. I hope they figure it out. I think the stubble is also kind of lame considering how fresh faced he was in the first film. I can only think that the face stubble is supposed to be a nod to his full on beard in the real Flynn.... considering the comiccon teaser was made fully two years ago I would think they could figure it out. My guess is real real Clu articulation animation scenes are no more then 10 minutes in the movie so they can rework that further.....

over the prevailing negative response to the young Flynn fx, expectations for this type of effect are way too high, the tech is plainly still not there yet (inspite of significant advances in all other areas of CGI). The fact remains that ten years ago or going back another decade we would have been awestruck by the type of sythespian japery of that virtual Flynn.

Having said that, I hope the film is good. -
will be dreck and Tron Legacy will beat the piss out of it in quality and at the box office. Have fun watching Mike Cera do his same old schtick, while Tron will kick everyone's ass. Scott Pilgrim.....horseshit.Who goves a flying fuck about seeing an actor play the same character he has played in every movie....have fun idiots paying for something you can watch at home for nothing....dumb asses.
-
The digital landscape is pure post-matrix greenish computer dribble. Where are the bright colors from the original? Also, the music is non-descript techno-nonsense. Give us the sweeping melodies of the original score courtesy of Wendy Carlos.
I see Olivia Wilde is kicking ass. Can't we get an old fashioned damsel in distress and romance ala Caddy Shack hottie Cindy Morgan in the original?
In short, this movie may please some unsophisticated palates but as it is created by a slick-rick here today gone tomorrow hyper fashion obsessed director of commericals, we know it will have no soul. I will not touch us or connect to any human universals like Tron did.
The uncanny CGI Jeff Bridges head is just a symptom of these deeper issues. -

Sighting special effects tricks of yesterday such as the plane and midgets in Casablanca does not excuse the CGI head.
It is very difficult to fool the human eye when portraying human beings with computers. When you get close but don't quite make it you are in the "uncanny valley".
James Cameron got over the uncanny valley but it doesn't look like the folks as Tron: Legacy have. I hope they do, but of course, we know that James Cameron spent half a billion dollars on Avatar.
The problem with the CGI head is that it is no an effect that will be on and off the screen. This is a main character, and because it is stuck in the uncanny valley it will distract the audience and ultimately draw them out of the film.
Those of us who want to get lost in the film and have it be accepted by the general public are legitimately worried about this. -
the cgi looks fine. better than anything Bay could conjure up. honestly the slow-motion light disc was the worst part of this trailer. too cliche nowadays.
-
Jul 22, 2010 7:02:57 PM CDT
It's reaching, but that uncanny valley could be intentional
by terry1978
It's a program basically trying to imitate Flynn. The other programs are all originals so they won't look as unsettling, but the way Clu acts alone with the mannerisms, you can somewhat tell it's not his true form.
-
...but it can be made better. I think it looks acceptable in the 1st scene but needs work in the 2nd scene. It doesn't need to be overhauled, it just needs some tweaking to give it more life and emotion. The lips are off and the eyes are dead, but that's something that can be modified.
-

Looks fucking GREAT. And I don't care about the CGI head.
by mr. nice gaius
I was never a big fan of TRON but I've always loved the aesthetic. It's the type of concept that can benefit from being revisited and made into something bigger and better than the original material. I'm all for it.Go Jeff Bridges.Oh, and Olivia is looking damn fine.
-
why everyone has been so worked up over Olivia Wilde (in a good way) in this movie.
-
no doubt
-
I don't have sky-high hopes from Tron Legacy. I was the right age at the right time for the original, and found it to be.... a dazzling bore. A brilliantly realised world, but even as a young 'un I found the movie itself a little plodding and a lot of the performances wooden as hell. Watched it again recently has time has been unkind but kind at the same time. It still looks uncanny enough to almost be distracting rather than absorbing; but nothing like it has ever been attempted before or since (in the same, non-CG way, I mean), and it was indeed lightyears ahead of its time in what it was saying about AI and virtual reality and a world interconnected by computers. So basically, I'm on the fence. Which makes it amusing for me to read the posts from the automatic, too-cool-for-school haters who will pounce on anything; but also makes me fear for the fans who I hope don't get Phantom Menaced on this. Don't make excuses for the obvious CGI on Young Flynn. It's not 100%. Maybe it will be touched up in time for the release, maybe it won't. But trying to explain away its dodginess by writing your own reasons (a glitch in the system) seems desperate! ... Hey, you might be right, hope you are! Doubt it myself
-
Perhaps you interact with other human beings with cold lifeless eyes, lips that don't exactly sync with your words, you keep your head perfectly still until speaking at which point you become animated before returning back to a still robotic state.....but for the rest of us that's a tad unrealistic.
-
I'M THERE!!!
-
we've seen in 3D. I only say as the subject matter is perfect for 3D. Black background, neon lines everywhere....think about it!I'm totally psyched for this!

Here is a good article from a special effects artist on why the Jeff Bridges head doesn't really work in the new trailer.
http://tinyurl.com/2ahrzog -
Wow. Holy Fuck is right.
-
I don't know.....I'm not a 3D effects guy. I only wonder why they can't do a combination using a live actor for the eyes and mouth parts and just laying the rendered CG face over the actor.
-
that's the fundamental problem in rendering and animating convincing human CG characters - teh Navi were step in the right direction, certainly advanced things with facial mo-cap (but that cost a bucket load of time and money in proprietary dev systems).
-
that's the fundamental problem in rendering and animating convincing human CG characters - the Navi were step in the right direction, certainly advanced things with facial mo-cap (but that cost a bucket load of time and money in proprietary dev systems).
-
...or at least they did as best they could considering they were dealing with blue creatures with exaggerated faces.
-
The way the eyes moved and the pupils dilated, it was basically looking at anthropomorphic cats, which I confess Cameron was able to recreate almost flawlessly.
-
cause of all the crevices, gray, and pock marks. You need quality actors like Sam Worthington to properly mo cap a face and make it realistic. DUUHHHHHHHHHHHH!
-
This one looks rather boring.
Not even one Mandelbrot hyperset in the landscape. -
I mean come ON people.
-
The guy was vaguely theorizing.
-
Bland actor = good CG face.
-
I've seen more expression in a vulcan standee
-
Sure the CGI stunt head is just 'off' a tiny, tiny amount, but it'll be perfect at release time.
-
The CG is bad, the plot is bad, the 3D is bad. A little movie called Avatar also had these complaints. Gee, what happened to that movie?
-
May be the 1st movie in 5 yrs I see in the theatre
It looks that cool.
Of course, again I'll leave the theatre poorer, wit ha headache and disappointed in the movie. -
They used unfinished shots in trailers all the time, especially early bird ones like this. People are getting worked up over shots that are most likely roughed out. If anyone remembers the Harry Potter teaser trailer for the last film, there was tons of bad composites and rough 3D. Considering everything else look tits, it's pretty pointless to gripe about a few unfinished shots.
-
...that CGI head is BAD. I mean laugh out loud at the theater bad. They better fix that shit pronto, because I would hate for the film to be ruined by that kind of AWFUL special effect. Call Cameron, or do whatever you have to do, but that has to be fixed.
-
He's synthetic
-
...and then de-age him in post? That HAS to look better than the shit in that trailer. The cut-scenes in Mass Effect look better than that.
-
...they're ALL synthetic. They are software representations. They should all have the same level of realism.
-
That's the law! I don't get some of you. You complain about CG and say Harryhausen's effects you could tell were fake, but they had this magic too them. CG tries to be too realistic. Now you say the CG looks fake. It's not realistic. It's a movie! They're also in a digitally created world, not only in special effects terms, but in the context of the movie. It's a computer world, not the real world. It's allowed to look like graphics.
-
By Karl Urban. Today is a happy day.
-
By Karl Urban. Today is a happy day.
-
... No it's NOT allowed to look like graphics dude. Bridges and Boxleitner, David Warner, everyone else were in a computer world, not a real world, in the original movie. THEY didn't look like computer graphics. THIS BRIDGES does. Stop making apologies for an effect which looks clearly, at this point, a bit shoddy. And I'm sure we can all calm down. This is an early trailer. The finished thing will be touched up, refined, and in all likelihood rock our cocks off.
-
Yes I'm a hater! a CGI hater!
-
I'm sorry to tell you. I think they're doing the best they can and remember, the film isn't even finished. It's easy to find flaws when you're so intently looking for them.
-
...I am just saying that it would have been a lot easier, AND cheaper to just use some makeup, and maybe some post effects on Bridges. Instead, they try to completely replace him, and it just looks obvious. The movie still looks awesome.
-
It's obvious that they put as much pancake makeup on Jeff Bridges as they could. Then CG went on the makeup.
-
Because God Damn it I want it to be good!!! Stop spoiling my dreams!
-
I'm glad you like it. But if it was up to par you would not have to be making excuses for it.
-
The geek in me can't wait for this!
-
It might not be perfect now, but it's close enough to be effective. Imagine the possibilities...Raiders of the Lost Ark PREQUELS. Tarantino's Vega Brothers becomes a possibility with a younger looking Travolta.
-
And saccharin tastes EXACLTY like sugar! And I got eyeball herpes!
-
Look, Bridges has weird facial movements anyway. The CG is gonna reflect that. Aw hell, he looks more natural than the kid playing his son. Who is this dude, and why didn't they find someone with personality?
-
I thought it was a White Russian spill!
-
This may end up being a good year after all.

Delusional whiney assholes...oh wait...it's an AICN talkback...what was I thinking. It looks pretty much Awestacular. As to the matter of CLU...Do-not-give-a-shit...not relevant.
p.s. SPF No-one gives a shit what you think or say. -
made my hair stand on end
-
they need to get WETA Digital on the phone - NOW!!! and get this done properly
-
Even at an earlier stage it is much better than a good amount of CGI that was released as a finished product. Sure, it's not 100% there, but to compare it to something like The Scorpion King? You are either QUITE delusional, or you NEED your vision checked.
-
Seems to me that 99% of the time what you see in the trailer is what you get in the actual movie. So, sorry to say I don't expect to see any tweaks to Clu's face/mouth movement. Kinda disappointing, but it won't ruin the whole movie for me.
-
that were better than TRON...
AND I SAW ALLLL THESE BAD FELLAS IN THE THEATER!
48HRS.,Airplane II: The Sequel, The Beast Master, Blade Runner, Cat People, Conan The Barbarian, Creepshow, The Dark Crystal, Dead Man Don't wear plaid, E.T., The Evil Dead, Fast time AT Ridgemont High, First Blood, Pink Floyd The Wall,Poltergeist, Porky's, Rambo: First Blood, Rocky III, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and the Thing.
The new Tron trailers does look cool... there is no question about it. But c'mon, cut the bullshit about the original Tron, It was not all that, The last Starfighter was better visually and story-wise, WARGAMES was more suspenseful...THE ONLY THING THAT WAS WORTH WATCHING WAS THE LIGHT CYCLE Duels--- THAT'S IT!
I didn't know what was worse, the shotty effects with Jeff Bridges tip toeing behind shit that obviously wasn't there or the dark muddy color palette that made Pink Floyd's Wall look like a Pixar flick.
what's next? The Black Hole?
Another movie that looked cool in stills and trailers but was an even bigger piece-O- Shyte?
Tron was a vehicle for Disney to cash in on the popularity of video games during that time. And it sucked like trying to play Pac-Man with a busted joystick. END OF LINE .............................. ...............BITCHES! -
Apparently ...

That movie was crap when it came out but suddenly it's the best movie ever 20 years later.

which concludes that we shouldnt talk about the movie and its sequel for this reason alone? oh dear, what a lie we the fans were living..

-
TRON looked great and is a truly unique piece of film-making, but as a kid it bored the tits off me. When I saw still from The Black Hole I was so excited, but when I saw it it bored the tits off me.
-
...to have seen the theatrical release of the original TRON when I was a university student. Personally, I'd rather see a sequel with a "mostly" convincing version of a young Flynn now than wait god knows how many years until they can get it 100% perfect (assuming that time ever comes). I've already had to wait 28 years for this movie. If this is the best that they can do given current technology, so be it. Being able to spot the model work in Star Wars or Close Encounters or latex skin on ET never kept me from enjoying those movies, so why would a "slightly off" Jeff Bridges keep me from enjoying this, especially if it fits within the context of the story. It's like refusing to enjoy the tastiest steak you've ever had just because a tiny piece at the end was slightly undercooked. As an "old fart," let me give some of you youngsters a tip. Refusing to allow yourself to enjoy ANYTHING that's mostly great just because of the 5 or 10 percent that's not is folly. Sadly, many people (myself included) don't realize this until later in life when they've had a chance to reflect on how much joy they let slip through their fingers because of it. This doesn't mean that you can't want or demand perfection. Just be realistic (and mature) enough to understand that true perfection in anything is exceedingly rare, so save that expectation for stuff that really matters. If I have to settle for "less than perfect" in my life, I'd rather it be in a disposable thing like a movie than something more important. When I see people literally raging about unrealistic lip movements, I can't help but wonder how somebody like that would deal with a real tragedy. It's called perspective folks.
-
Never was a crap movie. It bombed, but not because it was bad. And it's true: Tron was a vehicle to capitalize on the PC and video game explosion of the early 80's. It's a fun little romp with nice and clever visuals to impress 11 year old Basic writers, but nothing more. Plus Troff never showed up during the movie.
-
Blade Runner is a CULT movie. It was never successful. Even today, it's a cult thing.

NATIVEGAIJIN - WELL SAID, AND A MUCH NEEDED DOUSE OF COLD WATER
by bringingsexyback
Problem is that there are too many sneak pics, teasers and trailers out there. People latch onto them, dissect them like there's no tomorrow. What's really important is if the movie itself is good or not. You judge it by the experience of watching the story as a whole and the residual impressions you get when it ends.
-
It amuses me to watch how statements of opinions on this site lead to attacks on the opinion-holder's character, as though opinions were objective.
Yeah, the CGI looks pretty crappy, but if eye candy is what matters to you then did you love Lost In Space? That movie looked pretty gorgeous for its day, but the story/dialogue/acting was depressing, which made it a fail.
Most of you are probably old enough to have been around when PC graphics was really improving, and if you were playing PC games during that time, then you may remember that the gameplay quality took a serious nosedive, while the graphics quality was impressing us more and more. Games became more about the look than the play. So yeah, it might be distracting if CGI Flynn/Clu doesn't look 100% realistic, but is that a dealbreaker for you? Would you rather have a convincing looking young Jeff Bridges and a mediocre story or a great story and a mediocre (or maybe less) looking young Jeff Bridges? I'd like to have both, but if I can't have both, then I'll take story over look anyday.
So NativeGaijin, I'm right with you. -
i cat wait for tron legacy as long as disney doesnt fuck it up
-
I would only be willing to give you a point if CE3K included a scene with a talking animatronic head playing a younger version of Richard Dreyfuss. But it didn't. And let me tell you, if it did, everybody would be talking about how Plastic Dreyfuss killed the movie instead of how great the mothership arrival was.
-
Blade Runner hit #97 on the AFI's top films list a few years back. To my mind that pushes it out of the "cult thing".

You funny :)))

by thx185
That's right, wrong and stupid and dead and jaded. What you're seeing with Jeff Bridges' digital head is not bad CGI. It's just a body language and "evil" acting choice that you don't care for.
Meanwhile, the "grim and gritty" style for Tron Legacy is miles away from the colorful, wonderful, Carlos-scored original. I dig Daft Punk ok, but the music on these teasers is just wrong and stupid. where time becomes a loop
-
The movie isn't even finished yet. But if in the end the only thing people can complain about is CG Jeff Bridges. Then so be it. Everything else is working. I'm not fixated on CG Jeff Bridges. Talkbackers like to find a flaw and cling on it and from that one flaw. They declare it sucks. That's not a fair observation of the entire movie, is it now?
-
Talkbackers happy. Oh this person is excited for this movie? Watch me bring it down a notch and destroy their hopes and dreams. You see I don't care much about this movie. Never did, so I can't have others declaring it's the second coming. Because I know what good movies are, these Tron lovers don't! Well fuck you! This is the biggest movie of the year! It's gonna be amazing! TRON Forever!
-
I'm sure it is as good as I remember it, but Mel Gibson leaves such a bad taste in my mouth I haven't watched even his good movies in years.
-
Someone said the cutscenes in Mass Effect look better than Bridges CGI head. Oh man, thanks for the laugh buddy. Seriously.
-
When I think "I like it!" I think of Max the rabbit saying that with his arms up in the air. I saw the original twice in theaters. I guess I was in junior high at the time. The visual aesthetics were appealing to me.
-
meant to go post that in Behind The Scenes pic
-
You talk shit about Blade Runner on every talkback. Kinda like the guy that can't stop talking about his ex, but insists he's "over her". What's the deal?
-
Michael Sheen runs the End of Line Club... That's all I needed to know.
-
If they were using that CG'd young-Bridges in a t-shirt and jeans playing baseball, it would be horrific. But in this context, it's actually perfectly appropriate, because the character is supposed to be unnerving - familiar enough to make the wrongness disturbing.I'll give them enough credit to think they realize it doesn't look quite right, and are making an artistic choice.
-
I guess it wouldn't fit the timeline, and the main actor does look like he'll do alright, but the younger version looks more like he'd bring a sense of wonder to the proceedings, as opposed to the tough-guy/romantic angle, which looks to me like the least interesting part of the film (though Olivia Wilde looks, eh, extremely aesthetically pleasing).
-
Otherwise, looks amazing.
-
Tonight, you have won the internet.
-
it looks good, damn good and you'll pay to see it. go out and get some pussy instead of nitpicking at stuff that don't exist.
TRON cometh -
Yes, you speak truth. This drab post-matrix computer green and lame techno sound track don't inspire the imagination or uplift by connecting to human universals.
Give me the bright vision of the original and the beautiful innocence of the Wendy Carlos score.
But you morons wouldn't know anything about that. Flame away -
I don't hate it, but I don't get into it because I found it pretty dull. It was hard to sit through. And I love Harrison Ford usually.
-
It really depends on the depth of the story. The original TRON is not that interesting of a story, but this one seems to aspire towards something more serious. I'll go see it, most likely. But I'm not as jazzed up as some folks are for this.
-
This is the best reverse-aging CGI I've ever seen, even though I know it's not real and there's just .05% that doesn't look complete about it, it's amazingly well done compared to anything that has ever been done before.
I cannot wait to see this movie! -
Whoever likened the CG to the scorpion king is out of their minds. Yeah maybe its not the best CG ever but if you compare it to how Neo looked in matrix revolutions then tron here wins. The only thing i wonder is why they couldn't make him younger using the same FX that they used to make Patrick Stewart look younger in X3.
-
I just don't see what some of you are complaining about, with regards to the CG on Jeff Bridges. It looks fine, to me. Maybe its because you know that de-aging has been performed, requiring digital manipulation/CG, and that you think it looks completely fake. If for some reason I didn't know Jeff Bridges was much older...I wouldn't have looked twice at the scene he had with his son (when he looked back, just before walking out the door). Even knowing there is CG there, I still think it looks excellent.
-
Just saying.
-
Man, you guys are fucking pathetic. Apart from working out how he speaks, everything about it looks perfectly fine. Get a life.
-
If you step back and look at the greater context of the argument here, it's not about how well or poorly a specific effect (de-aging) was executed. Rather, it's about how an effect that can be recognized as such can pull you out of a movie. That being the case I would point to the aliens at the end of CE3K. At the time, the awkward "stick" alien and the little kids in rubber suits and bug-eyed helmets were much more off-putting to than Young Flynn in the current trailer. They just didn't seem "organic" to me. Did that ruin my enjoyment of the film? No. Because ultimately, those scenes succeeded in telling its part of the story. Also, when I write about effects work in Star Wars and CE3K, I don't mean in retrospect. These were observations I had while watching the movie in the theater for the first time. Back then, the effects were as state-of-the-art as TRON Legacy's is today. Maybe more so since they hadn't been done before. When the Star Destroyer did its overhead flyby after the title crawl, I could tell that some of the surface detailing came from model kits. The same technique had been used for the spacecraft in 2001 and Silent Running a few years earlier. As an avid model builder at the time, I even recognized some of parts. The point is I didn't let that observation pull me out of the movie because the story being told was so much more important than any nitpicks I might have with technical aspects. Again, perspective. It seems like some people have lost ability to make that cognitive choice.
-
Haters can eat a turd.
Just sayin' :)
OK now attack me b/c I hurt your feelings. That's how the game goes. But my inner 12-year-old is jazzed along with my outer 40-year old and I'll be there to see it. -
Also, nothing here can compete with the badness that was "Van Helsing." Or even Legolas running up the leg of the fake oliphant in LOTR 3.
-
then why the fuck are you worried about the face not looking real enough. What a bunch of morons.
-
The young Jeff Bridges looks absolutely believable to me. I don't get the negative reaction.
-
That is not CG. Repeat, that is not CG.
-
Is that a few shots of Bridges' face are enough to send you neckbeards into hater mode. DID YOU NOT SEE THE REST OF THE FUCKIN' CGI?
-
RPLocke... a rose by any other name. So his face became a texture. It's still 'computer generated imagery'.

Is this the first movie that attempts a CG human character...
by flickapoo
...in a live action flick? I can't think of any others...
-
After he died - that's what this reminds me of I mean the CGI of Bridges face looks good, but the movement looks horrible - the head moving in the collar. Just hideous.
-
It makes me really sad to see how unimpressed so many fanboys try to be whenever some new CG effects come out. When the original Tron hit theaters, nobody was standing there with their arms folded going "God, those cycles look so fake...and what's with the MCP's face, it doesn't animate anywhere close to a human face!" Back then, people knew how to be blown away by new FX work. We're sitting here looking at a version of Jeff Bridges that only existed like 30 years ago and you're nitpicking that it isn't identical to the ACTUAL Jeff Bridges of 30 years ago. Get over it, or go jump off a bridge and end your jaded, miserable lives.
-
It looks interesting
-
Here is most everyone's arguments who either like the CG head or could care less either way.
THE CG LOOKS FINE!!! WTF ARE YOU COMPLAINING ABOUT UR A REATRD FUCK FUCK FUCKITY FUCK, BITCH!!!!!!!!!" However if you'd remove your blood-soaked tampons for a second and actually read through the TB instead of skimming through and moronically looking for a reason to be MAD and hit CAPS-LOCK and CURSE you'll find many of the people disliking the CG head are still excited to see the film regardless. Many people (myself included) calmly stated that yes the CG head could look better but it's not a deal-breaker and we'll see it anyway. It's no big deal either way - just an interesting talking point that's all. It's unfortunate that the mere sight dissenting opinion or anyone criticizing something seems to drive you cunts into a blind rage. Many of you need some time away from the computer. -
nicely put
-
Looks kind of bad but a bit better in HD. Assuming the story is good I think it's going to be great. The production design on this movie looks incredible. I'm sure by December the CG head will have improved, but if it doesn't, so what. This looks like one good movie.
-
Thanks man.
-
Although what you just said is perfectly reasonable prepare for your words to be crammed through an "idiot filter" and warped into you somehow being a "HATer!" and a "PICKY LOSER dat NEEDS A lIFE!"
-
Yeah, I agree with you. Only I find it funny that the first negative post about the CG head had a title in all caps, and the phrase, "Weird floating CGI head bullshit." In these talkbacks, 65% of all opinions here are presented in an idiotic fashion. So what's your point?
-
You agree with me but you don't understand my point?
Anyway, of course there are going to be some people that hate just to hate on both sides, that goes w/o saying. In this case I think the hate toward dissenting opinion was a lot more evident and mindless from people who just felt like their happy parade was being rained on. I don't think there's anything wrong with challenging morons to back up their stupidity. Sometimes they step up to plate, sometimes they avoid valid points like the plague and most times they continue to dig their holes. It is what it is. -
and to all you nerds that are complaining,or knocking this movie before it even comes out YOU HAVE NO SENSE OF ADVENTURE!!!
-
Please give me quicktime... I can't even get this shit to play correctly. WTF?
-
Try updating Firefox and then getting a Youtube video to work. Lol.
-
"You agree with me but you don't understand my point?"
Yes. I agree with your statement about the ridiculousness of getting all excited over a conflicting opinion. I was asking what your point is in getting all excited about it in response. But you answered the question, fairly enough. So cheers! -
gotcha.....and for the record I'm just as guilty of being a mindless hater too sometimes....so fuck me as well damn it.
-
And I agree with you that trickery can be more or less well executed, and more or less age well, be it hi-tech or low-tech, analog or digital. But this is not the point I'm attempting to make. An example: Imagine if Han Solo was the Wookie in Star Wars. Doing the same things, saying the same lines during the same screen time, only in the yak hair mask and suit. Would it have worked? Would suspension of disbelief still have been sustained? TechnoDude in the Tron simulated world can pass as artistic choice if showing a younger Jeff Bridges is paramount to telling the story you want to tell. But the flashback scene of the trailer is pushing it a bit too much, and the loving gaze of the gentle father as he flicks the switch off just comes out as a creepy stare from beyond the valley of the uncanny. Not because the CG is bad, it's very, very good. But the technology is still not there yet, at least not for that kind of use IMHO. But hey, as many said, maybe they'll fix it and I'll go "it IS Jeff Bridges".
I hope they add a chase scene in a Mandelbrot hyperset as well.
-
A little hypocrisy among friends never hurt anybody.
-
But I didn't see a problem with the CGI. The "young" jeff looked extraordinary. The CGI "head" had weird facial ticks but I thought that it was fitting for Clu 2.0, who should look like a digitally corrupted sociopath.
-
i, like ULTRATRON, will enjoy this, while you nit-pick it to death. have fun! i know i will
-
so I hope that's not the case.
-

the visuals are stunning...i'm amazed at what i see so far
by wiboomer1
i saw the original when i was 9...in a real live crappy theatre. quit yer whining. love to see you do better
-
The movie as a whole should be cool. The digital face works fine in the Tron world but he clearly has it when he's with his son in the beginning. When he turned to look back at his son it was like GAH! WTF is wrong with your face!
-
Watched it in QuickTime. I have no idea what people are seeing about the FlynnHead that is so terrible. Looks pretty damn convincing to me. He even does a little half-smirk after saying "I'm not your father, Sam."
My wife is a big movie fan too, but she doesn't dwell on all the nerd shit like we do. So I had her watch it, and she had absolutely NO IDEA that it was CG. Which means other than any of us who nitpick it, 99.9% of the population will not notice one fucking thing about it.
And that brings it down to, is it going to be a good story? Still no way to tell at this point. I will agree with some other TBers who have called out the post-Matrix look, and the bland techno feel of the music. I wouldn't have chosen either of those, but I can accept that in the computer world, what we saw in TRON was the equivalent of game tech in the 80s... Legacy's world has been upgraded with better, more realistic graphics, just like we see on the other side of the screen today. The music, eh... I'll withhold final judgment until I see the finished product, but nothing has grabbed me yet. The original Wendy Carlos score is almost as holy to me as Star Wars, so the new stuff better be good. End of line, and all that geek shit. -
I noticed the "cgi face" of Flynn right off the bat. Are you blind? Hopefully this isnt the finished effects. Cant wait for December to roll around....!!
-
this film may end up being fine but have any of you re-watched the original? doesn't hold up; add to that the fact that flynn didn't end up with the titular character's son SAM; boxleitner did! this is a modern ret-con. still might be worth a watch though but i'm a continuity nazi
peace -
Did you guys know that Olivia Wilde's last name isn't Wilde, but......wait for it........COCKBURN.
-
from the Intellivision in one instance.
-
Brightness levels perhaps slightly off, but maybe that's just the high contrast world.
Maybe it's mainly that as you know rationally that it CAN'T be the real Jeff Bridges, your mind goes looking for flaws. -
...if perhaps unavoidable:
Bridges' voice is clearly different now from how it was 28 years ago. He has more of a tight-lipped, muttering old man quality to him now. Perhaps unsurprisingly. And it's this voice we hear talking to Sam in the bedroom, clearly different from 1982 Flynn's voice. -
i still can't get over all the steam, dust, moisture, clouds, scratches, etc. in the Tron world. that bothers me FAR more than anything else.evolved, better tech, upgrades, however you want to explain it... it just does NOT look like Tron to me. doesn't even look much like a computer generated world at all. it's a wasted opportunity to do something really mind-blowing visually.
-
GET A FUCKING LIFE MATE
-
FUCK SAKES U GEEK CUNTS,WILL U BE HAPPY WITH ANYTHING?
-
IF THEY SENT BRIDGES FROM 81 IN A TIME MACHINE TO FILM THE MOVIE U WOULD STILL FUCKING COMPLAIN
-
CLOUDS AND DUST JUST DONT LOOK RELISTIC IN A FAKE CGI WORLD,R U FOR FUCKING REAL???

WHAT THE FUCK R U CUNTS ON?

Am I missing something? The CGI on his head looks pretty damn great to me. In fact, I think it looks pretty perfect. I think y'all are just weirded out by young bridges.

Have all the people bitching about the CGI face..........
by kai_mah'gra
....stopped to consider that since CLU 2.0 is, you know, a COMPUTER PROGRAM, it's not supposed to look completely lifelike despite taking on Flynn's appearance? In fact there's more rational for having poor CG for Bridge's face projection as the visage for CLU, just as stop motion animation was the most perfect way of depicting ED209 in Robocop.
And despite the fact that all the other programs are more lifelike seeming than CLU, don't forget that in this sequel, they are creations of his, whereas he is an imperfect projection of himself or rather his creator Flynn, along with all that those imperfections imply to his character (part of the whole point of the movie is that he can never be the real life son that Flynn had or a part of that world that he comes from)
In any event, I doubt that they're completely done with all the postproduction work and post-rendering processes.
Don't you all remember everyone bitching about how "Playstationey" and 'fake CGI' Iron Man looked walking away from the exploding tank in the first Iron Man movie, when they aired the first full length trailer at the Superbowl, and how vastly that scene (and the rest of the CGI) had improved by the time the movie itself was released? -
You're on the money. SCARLETT_JOHANSSONS_BREAST_MILK - really the whole movie is going to suck because of a CGI creation's mouth? Really? I'm assuming you think Jaws is shit because the shark didn't look real. Show me a film and I'll show you a flaw. Doesn't mean it's not great. I'm not saying this movie will be best thing ever, but I'll reserve my judgement until I see it. I normally keep my mouth shut when the insults start flying, but damn you're making hard for me to resist.
-
ITS A FUCKING CGI HEAD,END OF FUCKING STORY.
-
IT LOOKS AMAZING,THEY HAVE DONE A GOOD JOB,DO U EVEN THINK FOR A SECOND THE TALENT THAT IS NEEDED TO CREATE AN IMAGE LIKE THAT.ITS A WORK OF ART.
-
MORE I WATCH IT,THE MORE I LOVE IT
-
The "Not Quite Right" issue many of you are Clu'ing into is the CGI models slower than normal lip animations and the dead earlobes. The earlobes should move with the chin. Easy fix! Dr Manhattan's facial animations were far worse in Watchmen. We are pushing the technology forward beyond it's means to make new advancements. This is using the IR camera system Avatar did. Get Pixar involved. Call Cameron and sort it out. To say the CGI head is not convincing on a visual level. That is utter rubbish! The CGI model is dead on. The smile when leaving the room is fine. The dialog scenes are a little rusty. Keyword "rusty" it can be fixed. They have the 3d capture data capture of Jeffs real face to drive this. Did you guys record his earlobes area as well when he acted out his dialog? What they need is a few talented animators to polish it. I'm not bitching because this film is not done yet. I know they can bring it home and it still looks amazing as all hell to me!
-
LOL IVE FUCKING HEARD IT ALL NOW.I RECON THE 16TH HAIR ABOVE HIS RIGHT EAR WAS A LITTLE OUT OF PLACE,AND LOOKED FAKE.I DONT RECAL DR MANHATTAN BEING CGI,ANYONE CLEAR THAT UP?
-
I expect everyone in that trailer to break into a disco dance.
-
ARNOLDS EARLOBES IN T4 LOOKED WAY MORE REALISTIC.
-
I THOUGHT HE WAS JUST SOME CUNT PAINTED BLUE,LOL
-
WELL WATCH THE FUCKING TRAILER TH EN,ID SAY THAT MAKES U EVEN MORE STUPID.
-
then why even bother posting? No interest? Then move along. People are free to like what they like. If it's not to your taste, fine. No need to berate other people for having a different opinion to yours. I know you'll probably retort with something along the lines of "I'm free to voice my opion too". Yes you are. But don't expect anyone to take you seriously with inane arguments like "it's gonna suck because Tron is stupid". You're only highlightling your own stupidity with comments like that.
-
this movie was made for me...and me alone
-
I saw about 3 seconds before it stopped and was pulled. Damn it.
-
totally.
looks cool but......
"I..... am not your father " -
Seems to be nothing in between. You either love the CGI head and think it's awesome, or you hate it and think it's the worst fx ever.
Let's get this sorted out quickly. We only have five months to argue about it. -
Creams himself over Lost and thinks Blade Runner is boring.
Jesus wept. -
Creams himself over Lost and thinks Blade Runner is boring.
Jesus wept. -
My point was worth posting twice.
-
and every special effect I or ANYONE has ever seen that has to do with a human or creature (cityscapes or inanimate objects are excluded) can be easily recognized as an effect. From stop motion to puppets to matte lines....it's always been an 'effect' to the eye. CGI is just another tool. It looks damn good to me.
-
Looks awesome, can't wait to see it.
-
He's totally the anti-Darth Vader!
-
...needs a bigger boat, or something. Fucking hell, you're terribly outdated..
-
I watched and rewatched and rewatched the trailer seveal times now in HD to study the offness more.
I noticed something else. The lower jaws deformation is off as well. There inner mouths flesh rests against the inner teeth and gums. The lower part of the jaw bone keeps it's form/shape when the jaw moves. The lower jaw bones shape is actually enhanced more as the jaw is lowered. Maybe a CT scan of Jeff Bridges lower jaw is in order.
You guys can use the same shape deformation trick that Weta used in Kong to force the eyelids to deform over the cornea of the eye. Instead you apply this deformation routine to the teeth gums and jaw, and the various muscles that should be represented in this area of the mouth and jaw. You still use the captured IR 3d data taken from Jeffs acting, but you give it a little push with this custom program.
His jowls and adams apple area should have more movement as well. The jowls area should drop a little when the mouth opens as well as being tugged up and down by the adams apple area when it moves to makes words. You might have to put Jeff back in the 3d IR helmet or chair or whatever system you used to capture this data and focus that camera on his ears and Adams apple area this time when he recites those lines. This is what I see that seems to be throwing the performance off. No true muscle and bone deformation play in and around the edges of the lower jaw, including the edges of the lower jaws bone shape enhancing deformations that would exact itself on the lower chins skin as the jaw opens wider. Little to no action in the adams apple area, low earlobes motion responses to the moving jaw, and the lip movement is not in full motion to the dialog, it seems slowed down. Not as bad as Dr Manhattan though- damn that was bad....
Do the lips stick together sometimes? Like our real lips do? Does the IR camera capture the sticky lip phenom when that happens? Or would those represented control point be located way too deep inside the IR 3d captured mouth animation?
-
A CG head...in a CG world? Holy fuck, hold the phone!!!! WHAT TRICKERY IS THIS?????
-
I mean, I haven't seen the original Tron since I don't know when. And I've never been totally geeked out about it...but that trailer was pretty fucking cool.
-
All this complaining about a movie that is not even finished yet....people hate for hate's sake, just to be cool or different. Make your judgements when the fucking movie comes out loser whiney crybabies.God nothing is ever good enough for some people. The CG head looks ok, but like others have said Clu is a PROGRAM....ever heard of glitches people? Whatever I am not wasting my time arguing with a bunch of whiners. People who have cohesive arguments are ok, but assholes just spewing shit about how its "going to suck balls" or whatever are a waste of my, and anyone else's time. Get a life losers.
-
Now I'll have to postpone suicide at least until christmas.
-
Seriously, why? Why would this instill hate in anyone? Why make dumb comments on something you have no idea on its outcome?
Looks damn good to me and its a real hoot to see 1982 Bridges.
Anyone that hates this is dead already. I feel very sorry for you. I hope this does beat the vastly overrated "Avatar." -
I only ask can you make a better argument? Can Roger Ebert make better movies than the ones he gives thumbs down to? Can sportscasters shoot free throws or hit homeruns better than the superstar players they criticize when they screw up? Must art critics paint like Dali in order to say word one about a painting? These TB's would be pretty fucking boring if we were all top industry professionals jerking each other off on how great our work is. People simply have opinions and views different than yours. Grow up and deal with it. Try discussing rationally why you feel someone is wrong or why they should reconsider rather than predictably insulting people and you'll find things way more interesting.
-
of Flynn pulling a hammer from a mudpile? That would maketh my week, forsooth!

I'd say something negative about those fucking loser, faggoty Hobbits, but its useless at this point. -
I'm never wrong.

God, if you dingbats can't be more entertaining in the way you go on and on about CLU's fuckin' head, I'm not going to bother calling you out. Young Father Flynn- fine. CLU-fuckin excellent for what he is. Boring, pedestrian score better be for the slackjaw public, because what's the point of having Daft Punk if you don't unleash some weirdness. Story will be what makes this a blockbuster or not, the effects are already heads and shoulders above most sci fi dreck.
-
Show someone this trailer. If they think the CG heads look good then they are idiots.
-
***Olivia Wilde*** Princess Leia of TRON, only hotter. Sorry Carrie.
-
I read about the first 30 post and the bitch was "CG Head" and "spoilers-it's not his dad"
So I scroll to the end and you fucking nerds are still bitching about the CG head looking dodgey. What the fuck do you want? What will please you? The movie is 5 months out and the CG will improve. But everyone here needs to inch back on the critical venom and see what the end state will be. I mean, I am not a fanboy for Tron, I think that original was lazy in a lot of ways and left the story take a back seat to the visuals, but this looks cool and at least they are trying to pump some kind of story into it.
But the TB collectivly bitches with "this will bomb" and "looks like shit" comments that make me wonder why I come to this site. For fuck sakes, if you can see that far into the future, get a fucking tent and take that shit on the road and hit the lottery.
If it is not that it is the trolling of guys like Asimvolives screaming bloody murder about JJ Failbrums and emo hair on lost.
creepythinman puking on everyone in the TB. I am really just starting to hate you all. -
FUCK OFF AND DIE, SCOTTPLIGRAMFAN! You haven't got anything nice to say, and you've said more than enough to make your stance clear, so go pound your pud into the disposal or play in traffic. ☻ Have an nice day, asshole.
-
They look really shit.
-
I think we just saw the plot...Sam has abandonment issues. So does CLU. CLU pulls Sam into the Tron World to get to Flynn. CLU probably hates Sam out of jealousy. Remember when Flynn called CLU the best program ever written, dogged and relentless?
This is going to the Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan version of TRON. -
... isn't it?
-
Are just pissed that Tron Legacy is going to piss all over Mike Cera and the stupid ass Scott Pilgrim shit. Enjoy watching Mike Cera do the same character....AGAIN.Oh and come up with a better argument than just sitting there like a stupid school boy and saying "Stupid CGI heads look fake" you sound like a little boy....oh....maybe because you actually are one....my bad.
-
....I was of a certain age that didn't really appreciate Tron when it first came out- it was just another night at the flicks. Watching it years later, it seemed oddly out of place in the advancing world of FX, and I couldn't for the life of me understand (personally mind you) what all of the fanboy furore was about. Therefore, when this was announced, I greeted the news with a resounding "meh.." Then I watched the trailers..... for a movie whos original opened to negative reviews, Disney are really taking a gamble with this follow up (and the mooted greenlit third)- a stance that I wholeheartedly support! From what I've seen, the FX looks fine, and the story should resonate with cinema goers (kid loses father, goes on quest to find him). Colour me excited. This should be a blast.
-
Please stop trolling this talkback. Tron 2 and Scott Pilgrim are two completely different movies, and will sate 2 completely different audiences. Go watch Scott Pilgrim vs the World. I am sure there will be others on this TB who will join you (myself included). Just stop comparing the two- its really not worth your time here.
-
HAHAHAHAHA....thinking something with Mike Crea is not going to be the same schtick he does in every single movie he is in.....wrong....there you go, you are now wrong dumb ass. "The year of scott pilgrim" HAHAHAHA movie aint gonna do jack shit box office, will fail miserably. Yea the year of scott pilgrim...the year he fails miserably HAHAHAHA
-
What up bro! Just playing around with this scott pilgrim douche....kinda fun, im not normally like this but I kinda like it...he he he.
-
Really? Does it? How else are they going to take 30 years or so from Jeff Bridges, plastic surgery? It looks absolutely fine. Everything apart from the mouth moving is photorealistic- couldn't have done much better (IMHO). Put it this way, if Michael Bay had done it, he would have had to have a 20 minute shoot out and 300 explosions just to showcase it to the audience, and then would have put the head into a 7 act car chase with 700 other CGI heads cluttering the screen. Fuck all wrong with it- grow the fuck up.
-
Good to hear from you my man!! I have decided to be nice with Scott pilgrimfan as he is not a Bay supporter (that I know of);) Anyway, in terms of box office, Scott Pilgrim has no hope of cracking $200m domestic (IMHO) and will be lucky to crack $200m global. Disney are backing tron to the max- $200m looks like a fucking breeze to me!!! Take care, matey!!!!
-
You will remember nothing else from 2010. Tron Legacy sucks.
-
fucking your eyes out in 2009...nothing else matters. I but it's the same guy.
-
Will piss himself when he experiences the utter and total failure of Scott Pilgrim....I will remember laughing my ass off when scott pilgrim doesn't even make 20 million on it's opening weekend, while Tron will crush everyone.....sucks to be scottpilgrim fan.....who does not know how to say anything else except "tron sucks" and "im never wrong"......little boys are funny.
-
A pleasure as always bro! Keep up the good fight! LOL
-
Sasha Grey in "Teenage Peach Fuzz 3". THAT..is what is good in life.
-
I think we just saw the plot...Sam has abandonment issues. So does CLU. CLU pulls Sam into the Tron World to get to Flynn. CLU probably hates Sam out of jealousy. Remember when Flynn called CLU the best program ever written, dogged and relentless? This is going to the Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan version of TRON.
-
I can concur on that.
-
Sasha Grey....yum...a dirty filthy whore, but yum, regardless....a threesome with her and Jenna Haze.....hell fucking yeah.
-
Holy Fuck!! I can't agree with the posts before saying the CG looks fake. It looks pretty good for todays standards and they still have a few months before they release. Count me in for December. It might make up for this mediocre year for movies.
-
Damn this movie look like 8-layers of cool.
-
How off the mark that comment is.
-
Anyone who says so is really just looking to be contrarian in my opinion. The lip movement is a bit off, but that's because our brain knows its fake. Its still a marvel of SFX work.
-
Couldnt have Jeff been de-aged by using traditional makeup? if it was possible to de-age him with makeup, then why did they use CGI for his younger incarnation?
-
prepare to get fucked up haters. The head looks great! FACT!
-
Does not look very good or convincing. Especially when you're knocking what, at least 25 years off? I'm thinking of Jon Voight in the beginning of National Treasure (because it was just on the other night and I only watched the opening). He looks like today's old Jon Voight with lighter hair and lots of blush. But he's still got the jowls and loose skin. Traditional makeup won't cut it KilliK.
-
This "looks" twice as better as the original, which looked pretty cool to begin with. As far as content goes, we'll see...
-
Looks good. And the CG on the vehicles is promising.Interesting that CLU appears to have become as corrupt as the MCP had been.
-
Is not responding....I guess his mommy told him to get off the computer and finish his breakfast like a good boy should.
-
... exploding in the background is just an all-around well composed and very cool looking shot.
-
Which says more about the people saying it than it does the FX work in this trailer.
-
Then you've wasted your life.
-
How idiotic.
-
This may rank up there with the biggies of the year. Alice in Blunderland exceeded everyones expectations- who the fuck else REALLY thought it would hit the billion wordwide??? I will admit, I didn't think it would get close! Tron may suprise us all- but the other big bastard in terms of Box office is Potter (not comparing the movies, just the takings) in November. Should be interesting to see how 2010 pans out financially.
-
You mean you've NEVER had a threesome with Sasha Gray and Jenna Haze????? I've just got back from that while James Cameron digitised my cock to look 30 foot long instead of 13"......hahahahahahahaha!!! OOPS- small penis complex.....
-
I think there is enough time between the two that they can both do well, Potter is going to be a monster because it is the end of the saga...well the first part anyways...so it will probably be #1 until Tron is released....if Tron cant bump it out of the #1 spot....might be in a bit of trouble, but I think it can and will, way too much anticipation for it not to.Sam, I agree if dreck like Alice can make the money it did, no reason why Tron should not do well. Tim Burton=Remake abortionist....the sad part is people buy into his...ummm..."vision"....yea, they guy USED to have vision, now he is just a window dresser.
-
Bit off the tron subject, but I didn't see where Burton went at all with Alice. I have two kids, one is 9 and the other is 14, and both of those were completely underwhelmed at Alice. My eldest even snorted at Johnny Depps Hatter, and she fucking loves the bloke!!! The success it earned far outweighed the spark the movie created. Mr Burton- shame on you, sir!!! As for Potter- a billion each movie wordwide without breaking a fucking sweat..... Tron will have some catching up to do come December.
-
of scottpilgrimfan's mom's ass
-
my pants. soiled. please continue.
-
I have not seen it but have no desire to. My 13 yr old step daughter saw it and loved it....dont know why lol. She tells me I must see it and to appease her I will, but I dont't expect I will enjoy it, but still I will give it a chance, just dont have high hopes...I dont have to see it to know its Burton's typical window dressing abortion of a remake. Charlie & The Chocolate Factory? Horrible, flat out horrible. Tron will in no way beat Potter IMO, but it will make decent box office I think, enough to warrant another film.
-
THAT WAS MY ASS!!!!!! I was on the top of his mom!!!!!
-
Go into Alice with the lowest possible expectations you can and prepare to still be disappointed. Just looked at the release schedule for the rest of the year, and I don't think that there is very much that will beat Potter, or have a chance. Out of them all, potential box office earners are: Tron 2, Little Fockers, Saw 7 (although...diminishing returns, but I say this because its the last one), Yogi Bear might do something in December besides shit in the woods, Voyage of the Dawn Treader possible $500m or so, and that's about it in my opinion.
-
Of course it doesn't look %100 real, BECAUSE IT ISN'T. But compare that to say, the CG shot of Brandon Routh at the end of Superman Returns, and you can see how far we've come. Given, what it really looks like is Jeff Bridges in a metric ton of prosthetic makeup, but even that is astounding. The fact that I can actually relate it to something real and tangible is something that I thought I'd just never see happen. Seriously, just look Jar Jar Binks from TEN YEARS AGO and then look at this. Stuff like this convinces me that Lucas made his movies ten years too early. Amazing...
-
2011- huge fucking numbers from the following- Green Hornet (oh it will!!!) Big Mommas House 3 (urg) Battle LA Scream 4 Thor POTC 4 (what a monster that will be!!) Hangover 2 Kung Fu Panda 2 Xmen first class Green Lantern Cars 2 TF3 Bay bastard!!! HP4 part 2 Captain America Cowboys and Aliens Twilight Breaking Dawn Sherlock Holmes 2.....
-
Do not mean 100% total disaster. So many idiotic children on this board. You weren't even around for the first film so fuck off.
-
Oh I'll go in expecting to despise it, thus I may get some enjoyment out of it, either way, I am not hopeful for it. Burton had gone from solid filmaker to window dressing hack. he needs to redeem himself in a big way. Sadly, because of the box office of Alice, he won't, because he sees he can get away with hacking and butchery and still make money as long as it looks "cool"....bullshit.I am gonna watch Kick Ass tonight and actually enjoy something LOL, hope it's as good as I have heard, and that will be 2 good films inside of a week....The A Team and Kick Ass....ahhhhh.
-
and the computer world flynn CG is off, im ok with that. I'm sure they will be tweaking this for awhile though.
-
Scotsman what the fuck u doing back here? I thought (well hoped actually) that you'd drunk yourself to an early grave long ago.
What with Spazatronik SCARLETTS_BREAST_MILK and scottpilgrimfan this place is becoming like ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOOS NEST.
THE_CHOPPAH is Jack Nicholson, the rest of you are just random retards smearing yourselves in feces. -
Bend over and bite my pillow CHOPPAH!
-
who does she play?
-
It's past time for you to take the tit, get burped, and have your afternoon nap.
-
. . . are getting the call to work over time this weekend?
Make the face look better! I don't care what you have to do, make the face look better . . .
What do you want to bet that at least the trailer scenes get revamped and improved before the movie is released? -
Knocks all the stuff off the table. De-aging looks pretty flawless there. I think some of this will be re-visted, and fixed up, before release.

I think all the computer programs should have been CGI faces.
by royston lodge
My one criticism of TRON Legacy isn't the CGI Bridges Head. My one criticism is that the other computer programs are too human.
In the original, the glowy B&W effect was a great way to show "these characters are artificial, folks".
I think they should have totally EMBRACED the uncanny valley by giving ALL the computer characters CGI faces on the bodies of actual actors. It would have been the best way to embrace the TRON aesthetic while updating it for the 21st century. -
And it'd be completely expensive to do it too! Interesting idea, but I wouldn't want that.
-
shush
-
well in that case the movie is already a flop, its destined to be.it will have a decent gross but not enough to spark a franchise.exactly what happened with the original movie.its a pity.:(
-
only the idiots
-
And I'm not even really into the original.
-
What do you mean, the last Harry Potter flopped harder than Lindsey Lohan's last movie.
-
You make a good point by suggesting that all of the faces should have been CGI heads but that would have been prohibitively expensive.
For some reason, a disney exec decided to fork over $150 million and take a huge risk of making a sequel to a seldom-seen cult classic.
Whether it be transformers 3 with extra metal testicles flopping around, blade runner 2: electric boogalo, Tron 3: PeterNorth's phat cumshot swallow fest, we should all be grateful that they are trying to make movies they think we shutin pasty fucks will like.
Right? -
where the fuck is it???
-
they will have mckay and woolsey!
-
Why is it that every time someone throws any type of weapon in a movie towards their enemy, it always has to make a slo-mo pass in front of the camera as the "bullet-time-woosh" sound effect kicks in? When was that ever "cool"?
-
I'm usually very critical of CG quality, mostly because I've been doing it my entire life and it's easier to notice certain things. But I can't rip this trailer apart, because the CG JB looks decent. Not perfect, obviously-- mostly it's the typical, unrealistically smooth way the muscles of the mouth are animated when he talks (something that has been a problem with even the best character CG over the years)-- but it's not awful by any means.
-
that was a good one.
-
it's childish to name call because someone disagrees with you. you only expose your own insecurities lashing out like that.
with that out of the way, i'm looking forward to tron.
speed racer was excellent, btw -
and NO SLO MO! Really, that's the way it should be.
-
just not sure. i haven't seen tron since i was like 5, i have virtually no memory of it and these trailers for the sequel aren't making me want to revisit it.
-
i want more of her please.
-
she has a european look.i think the actress is russian, isnt she?
-
somehow gave me a Captain Hook (the Spielberg movie) vibe.and since Disney is producing the film and they have asked for Pixar's help,i really do hope that this scifi movie wont turn into your typical family movie with the son-father rediscovering their lost relationship and all that crap.i hope this is not the case.
-
Get on it Steven!
-
with shorty in the lead.
-
Go wank off somewhere else.
-
SCOTTPILGRIM SUCKS MY BALLS!
-
HE'S A DIGITAL AVATAR !!! GET A FUCKING CLU. YOU FUCKIN' CUNTS !!
-
It's funny all these people sticking up for the cg in this trailer. Where were all of you when everybody on here was bashing the first Avatar trailer. I mean, it was like the "it" thing on here to do. There was none of this "it's an early trailer" bull. This is an official trailer and the cg is NOT going to make some drastic improvement. I am sure the action is going to be badass and I can't wait to see more of Flynn's flying machine, but the cg does look really bad and I expected a higher quality for a film of this caliber.
-
hopefully it will look better projected on the big screen,if they don't tweak before release.
Either way, I've seen worse. -
In terms of telling a real story. They seemed to hold back on FX shots.
-
I thought the CGI was flawless.

i had sexual intercourse with Olivia Wilde not too long ago!

in my 2nd level dream.
-
After watching the 1080p version, I do still notice CLU's mouth, but his younger face in the "real world" looks fine.
There's got to be something out of context for the CLU mouth... maybe they created that scene before Bridges was available to shoots on board ( someone mentioned this footage existed last year ) Afterall, the mouth and jaw area is one thing that doesn't really "age" much on men, so why on earth couldn't they just merge in Bridge's real performance there?
I think I'm done watching trailers on this though... I don't want to get my hopes any further out of proportion. Unless it's my blue glowing 6inch USB plug into Olivia Wilde's welcoming socket. -
HE'S A WEAK CG LOOKING DIGITAL AVATAR !!! GET A FUCKING CLU. YOU FUCKIN' CUNTS !!
-
GET YOUR OWN MATERIAL, YOU VAGINAL BLOOD FART !!!!

Ok, AICN, we get it.............................. .............

There's a new Tron:Legacy trailer. And in spite of it's corpse-puppets, looks amazing.
-
BUT I STILL BELIEVE THAT THERE ARE LITTLE MEN INSIDE PCs TRANSPORTING DATA ON NEON MOTORCYCLES!!!
-
Yeah well in my third level dream she was actually satisfied afterward.
-
SEEMED LIKE THE THING TO DO AT THE TIME !!! THAT FAKE LOOKING DIGITAL HEAD LOOKS SO REAL !!! I'M FORGAINST IT !!!

I forgot to take my pills, too.

2010: THE YEAR OF SCOTT PILGRIM. SPREAD THE WORD.
-
The only glitch I can see is that your ass hasn't been fucking banhammered yet for being the asinine whiny fuck that repeats the same old shit ad nauseum. Go fuck yourself, repeatedly. Then go watch that fucking Michael-Cera-being-Michael-Cera-fucking-AGAIN beigefest that your tired old ass keeps on blah-blah-blahing about. TWAT.
For the record - this trailer is AWESOME. I cannot wait for this movie. And to those whining about fucking CGI: DON'T BOTHER GOING TO SEE IT. It obviously won't live up to your ridiculously nitpicky standards. Losers... -
LARPers and post-op Tranny's.
-
God I'm sooooo waiting for this!!!
-
Not trying to be whiny, although i don't think the comments were aimed at me, but you can't saying wanting solid cg from a film of this caliber is nitpicky. I am still going to see it and enjoy it but in today's action/sci-fi world of film you have to bring your A game. Now if I were watching some balls out Japanese action movie I would not pay attention to the detail. But this is a Tron sequel backed by Disney for crying out loud.
