AICN Exclusive: Check out Drew Struzan's WALKING DEAD Comic-Con poster!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with an awesome exclusive for you.
We all know Drew Struzan is a master. We’re all super excited for THE WALKING DEAD. So when those two geek asteroids collide we get this awesome exclusive thanks to the folks at AMC and Mr. Frank Darabont.
Take a look (and click for super large version):

Excellent! Reminds a lot of Struzan’s MIST poster, especially in color scheme.
From what Darabont has mentioned, this is the first time Struzan has depicted zombies! Pretty awesome, right? I'm also told that if the show continues on to multiple seasons that there will be a different crazy-awesome artist doing their take on The Walking Dead every year at Comic-Con!
For those attending the Con, I know there’s a signing at the AMC Booth (#3721) Friday at 4pm and I’m pretty sure the above is what they’re signing. I’m stuck in Hall H at the time, so count me jealous!
I got some rad pictures of the horror-show that is the AMC booth which you can see in about an hour when I finish up my annual preview night pictorial! Stay tuned!

Is it wrong to say he's my favourite artist?
-
Just missing a few flies
-
Great, great, great poster. I want one now please!
-
A homage perhaps?
-
Seriously, the moon in the background with zombies coming at you? Gee how original.
-
Very much looking foward to the show. Wanna see how it holds up, since the comic book is one of the most exciting titles of the last decade. Just to see future Comic Con posters as cool as this one makes me wish for several seasons.
-
the dwellers of the cubicles....
-
does he ever do that? because since photoshop is all the rage for movie posters these days, he could probably find good work doing comic/graphic novel covers. imagine the little boost in sales if they could use his name, especially if its a smaller comic.
-
I'm trying to keep my expectations reasonable for this. I can feel myself getting giddy.
-
I'm going to have to check ebay for one of these beauties.
-
Its of one of the zombies that we have seen a screen shot for. like the main one in the middle is. duh
-
That's not supposed to be fucking Stephen King, it's the same guy from that batch of zombie pics who everyone was saying looked like Kevin Bacon or Jim Carey or something. http://snipurl.com/zptcz
-
Is he the Brett Favre of posters now?
-
6 episodes will be a cock tease though!
-
The Walking Dead is not a very good comic. Just sayin'.
-
Very cool poster
-
He's a zombie on the show! He's all over TWD's AMC web page. Here's one of his many photos on the site. http://blogs.amctv.com/photo-galleries/the-walking-dead-zombie-photo-gallery/zombie-gallery-2.php
-
There hasn't been a hardcore zombie poster like that in theaters since Return of the Living Dead. Some matinee-going toddlers are going to have nightmares.
-
Never mind.
-
What John Williams is to film scoring, Struzan is to cinematic posters. He even managed to make a bunch of shambling, decrepit corpses beautiful, lush and dynamic...
-
please tell me this poster will be available for sale (for decent price) after sdcc!
-
seriously, if you've ever been around anything dead (roadkill, etc) you know how many flies there are, (and bees too, for that matter).<P> Now if you multiply that by 10 or 15 corpses? An assload of flies are required.<P> A city full of zombies? Call it Fly City!
-
Dude is on a fricken Struzan poster now, and lots of see it first images and video. Who ever that extra is, Ye gods have blessed thee Big Time! You are on the damn poster, created by Struzan! F'N'A!
-
For those who say Mad Men is too slow moving, a little zombie action will wake them up. A zombie attacking Joan, ripping at her clothes...I'd buy that for a dollar!
-
Mr. Struzan. Thats putting money where your mouth is...
-
Holy crap, Peter Straub, too!!!
-
AMC? hows that gonna work? you can't have violence or objectionable material on regular tv, this would have to be on HBO to work.
-
But AMC? I dunno. MAD MEN rules, of course, it's the best show on tv right now, but a Zombie Apocalypse show without gore? I dunno.
-
Uh, okay, okay, we get it. Retro 80s. Har de har fucking har. Enough. Seriously, though, retro 80s hasn't been even remotely cool since, like, 1998, and even then it was totally uncool. Please, let's not devolve anymore than we already have, okay? The way out is FORWARD, not back into the pop-consumer womb vortex.

-
the price usually is for comic con. I might go next year.
-
Actually the other way around 'skimn'...I'm glad to see Mr. Struzan supporting Mr. Daranbont...he is as big a fan of Struzan as anyone else. Slick looking poster, to bad Struzan retired...I've always looked forward to seeing what new artwork he has created.
-
That's awesome! Can. Not. Wait!
-
we'll find out soon
-
Man, way to go with the misleading title. I haven't been this confused since I watched Snatch.

QUINT, IF YOU HAPPEN TO TRIP OVER A BODY AT COMIC-CON
by BringingSexyBack
That would be MJ_Corpse. Just take his wallet and buy Contipops a beer for us, willya?
-
you should check out breaking bad. plenty of gore/violence there. "There’s severed heads on the back of turtles, there’s liquefied bodies falling through ceilings, somebody just got their head blown off recently." <br><br>That last line listing the gore was from an interview between Quint and Robert Kirkman (author of Walking Dead). He stated that there's no limit to the gore they can show. It's more about language restrictions on AMC (no F-bombs). You should check out the interview for more info about the gore. Here's one last part: <br><br>"Anything you have seen in BREAKING BAD we can do every minute of our show. And then also there’s a lot of things you can get away with, because they are zombies, so you will be seeing all kinds of cool stuff that you would expect to see in THE WALKING DEAD: THE TV SHOW, so while it isn’t a pay cable channel, I think that people are still going to get what they want." - Robert Kirkman <br><br>I think the gore will be fine. AMC isn't a basic network like NBC or ABC....it's more along the lines of FX, which has had some pretty graphic stuff in the past.
-
I love the comic and can't wait for the show, but this poster is completely uninspired, generic bullshit. I'm with DickJones on this.
-
do better
-
While it's cool to see Drew doing zombies, it doesn't have that spark that so many of his paintings have. At first glance, it reminded me a lot of this Jim Thiesen cover to I Am Legend from the early 90s... http://www.iamlegendarchive.com/
-
I don't have to do better, I'm not Drew Struzan. The guy's a poster designing god. I'm a huge fan and I happen to own two original paintings by the man. But this is entirely uninspiring. As resvordog notes right below you, it is lacking in that spark that so many of his paintings have.
-
Oh cool, okay, that's reassuring. I still would rather see a full-on, uncensored HBO or Showtime dealie though, you know?
-
And zombies need to go away. They have become as much of a cliche as everything else wrong with "entertainment" today.
-
The Walking Dead is not a very good comic. At all. Such horrible dialogue on every damn page.
-
Quit trolling. Ass.
-
The poster is stellar. Shut up.
-
Then do it, numbnut. Seriously... do you guys get together outside of here, have a few espressos, and scheme on how you can all troll AICN?
-
I know somebody agrees with me. Hell I know most of you agree with me.
-
You should email everyone on AICN and see how many people actually do agree with you. In fact, I think you should start immediately. Don't come back without the results.
-
Mutilated flesh in combine gears, crushed pulpy remains trapped in a compacted bundle of garbage, liquified leftovers in a can of chemicals, etc, etc...and that's on regular old Fox. Plus most of the TNT dramas slip "shit" and "asshole" in there once in a while. AMC will be fine.
-
Calling people names, not saying anything related to the article except in reaction to someone else's opinion then telling them to shut up. Yeah, I'm the troll. That makes sense.
-
Darabont and Struzan are pretty tight in real life. Whether you personally like it or not Darabont knows what he wants and who can deliver<p> This poster is dope<p> And off topic. After seeing the commission Drew did for Frank of Creature' , Id Love to see Darabont tackle that.
-
Says the guy who's user name is the title of a ridiculously pretentious tone poem with no fucking dialogue to speak of. It's actually a rather wonderful comic, and while it's dialogue heavy at times the characters spring to life and it constantly defies genre convention almost never going where you expect it to.
-
Bear McCreary (Galacticas kick ass composer) Is going to score Walking Dead.<p> AMC cant miss
-
But it's kind of ridiculous that an artist can render zombies as subtle, eerie monsters and yet live action zombies these days are blood spewing psychos that aren't all that threatening. <p>There's something creepy in the classic zombie's movement and rotten appearance that is more menacing than a bunch of tweaked out fuckers with blood gushing from every orifice.
-
from commercial work. Guess not. Nice to see him still working.
-
No, it is not rather wonderful. The dialogue is almost all exposition. Characters that spring to life? If by spring to life you mean explain everything to death in completely unnatural ways then yeah you're spot on. I have no problem with lots of dialogue but that dialogue is shit. And Glass' score for Koyaanisqatsi alone elevates it to levels a fucking zombie show can never hope to attain.
-
Glad to see Drew is still working. I also was under the impression he had retired.
