Harry's gonna have a RADICAL, EXPENDABLES & DINI-LISCIOUS time at Comic Con!

Published at:  Jul 21, 2010 5:33:22 PM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here with an update so those of you that just have to behold the greater glory that is my sad appearance... well, you'll know where I'm at in this technological marvel they call Comic Con.

I'll be pretty busy with a ton of stuff going on at Comic Con... But I am scheduled to be on a couple of panels coming up.

THURSDAY - after I've been mind-blown by TRON in Hall H... I'll be doing this panel:

Thursday, July 22
2:00-3:00 Radical Publishing Panel— Hosted by Ain't It Cool News's very own Harry Knowles, Radical Publishing presents an all-star panel lineup with plenty of surprises, special announcements, and a free raffle ticket for everyone who attends. Panel guests include Jimmy Palmiotti (Jonah Hex), co-creator and co-writer of Time Bomb; Rick Remender (Punisher), creator and writer for The Last Days of American Crime, soon to be a major motion picture produced by and starring Avatar's Sam Worthington; Peter Milligan (Hellblazer), writer for After Dark, co-created by director Antoine Fuqua and Wesley Snipes; Arvid Nelson (Rex Mundi), writer for the upcoming Oblivion from TRON: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski; Nick Percival (Judge Dredd), creator and artist for Legends: The Enchanted, soon to be a major motion picture from Ron Howard's Imagine Entertainment; David Hine (Spider-Man Noir), writer of Ryder on the Storm and FVZA; Matt Cirulnick (True Crime: New York City), creator and co-writer for Earp: Saints for Sinners; and Keith Arem (Call of Duty series), one of the gaming industry's leading director/producers as well as co-creator for the upcoming Exile. Room 32AB

I think it is pretty important to drill Matt Cirulnick for everything he knows about Raimi adapting his SAINTS FOR SINNERS, which was announced this week. Can't wait to find out more about Joseph Kosinski's OBLIVION... and well, it's going to be a fun panel - and there's at least one product that we get to debut at the Panel that... hell... let's be frank. I WANT ONE! You'll see if you come.

Then I have to run off to HALL H to sit down and chat with Stallone and some of his leg-breaking badass Expendables buddies. Here's those details:

4:45-5:45 Lionsgate: The Expendables— Prepare to have your ass kicked by The Expendables, the biggest action movie this summer! Lionsgate presents exclusive scenes and the inside scoop on every punch, kick, and bloodied lip from the most iconic cast of heroes and villains ever assembled, including the director, writer, and star Sylvester Stallone (Rambo), along with Dolph Lundgren (Universal Soldier), Steve Austin (The Condemned), Randy Couture (Scorpion King: Rise of the Warrior), and Terry Crews (Gamer). Hall H

Then tomorrow on the site, I'll announce another Panel that I'll be a part of this FRIDAY. It kind of has to do with my big secret. Giggle.

Then Sunday, I get to sit down with the screenwriter of my GHOST TOWN project and Groomsman at my wedding, PAUL DINI - who has a new Cartoon Network series called TOWER PREP that we'll be chatting about and showing footage from. Pilot is pretty damn killer I have to say. And on that same panel, we'll be looking at another project that looks quite promising, FIREBREATHER, from Peter Chung! Here's those details:

Sunday, July 25
11:15am-12:15pm Cartoon Network: Tower Prep with Firebreather Sneak— Executive producer and series creator Paul Dini (Lost, Batman Beyond) and executive producer Glen Morgan (Bionic Woman) offer fans an exclusive first look at Cartoon Network's newest live-action mystery series Tower Prep. Meet the series stars Drew Van Acker (The Lake), Elise Gatien (Bionic Woman), Ryan Pinkston (Punk'd), and Dyana Liu (Parenthood). Fans will also get an exclusive look at Firebreather, Cartoon Network's first world premiere original CGI movie event based on the comic book series with creator and co-executive producer Phil Hester (The Wretch), co-executive producer Andy Kuhn (Freedom Ring), and writer/director Peter Chung (Aeon Flux). Room 6DE

I already made a dry run over to the Convention Center... nothing to see quite yet, I'll be heading over in about 2 & a half hours. I'm at the Hard Rock, which has Green Hornet's BLACK BEAUTY parked out in front, and in the lobby - there's a badass motorcycle from PRIEST. Everytime I come up to my room - I have to stare into a fanged maw. Last year, I had to stare at Paul Bettany's naked navel. I think I prefered Bettany's Naked Navel, it made me think of Animal Crackers and sunsets.

See you folks around Comic Con!

Dini and Timm should be on Superman

    by vadakinx

Stick Morrison in there too and you have the perfect writing team for Superman. Dini and Timm created the perfect adaptation of the comic with the animated series save one thing - Superman himself. That's where Grant Morrison comes in.

Truth is I don't trust Goyer's vision for Superman because...well...he's a mediocre writer at best.

I'm with Pfister and Nolan. IMAX does give a more immersive experience than 3D. I would FUCKING HATE for Batman 3 to be in 3D. Inception is making money. Do the math, Warner Bros. Allow Nolan to shoot Batman 3 however he fucking wants.

If not, then let the TBs post as they like, since it's FREE, and live with it. Either way, the whining isn't very productive. And for the record, I've been coming here for more than 10 years, and have had articles posted. You really have no idea who you're talking to, and no context, or history. But you shove your foot in your mouth, nonetheless, because its the internet, and you're anonymous, and can. I've probably posted 20-50x your volume, and many, many posts are helpful, engaging, thoughtful contributions. I'm not even going to bother justifying my "whining" to your self-defeating contradictory post.

AICN used to run every little rumor and gossip about casting and whatnot, back when they were the only game in town. now there's a zillion blogs and a hundred times more misinformation. running every rumor would not only clog up the site, it would be pointless. if you want to read about every rumor, then there are plenty of sites for that. if something is verified, or important for whatever reason, it'll be on AICN eventually. and speaking for myself, if I have to wait *GASP* a few hours longer, I couldn't possibly care less. I've been listening to these trolls yell about AINTITOLDNEWS for years, now. "This was on my sister's dentist's dogwalker's blog like 4 minutes ago, you guys suck! you're dropping the ball!!"it's (for lack of a better word) getting really old.the web evolved, film sites evolved, and AICN evolved, too. if you want rampant, pointless speculation, go somewhere else. but for god sake, PLEASE stop complaining here.
as Harry said above, this is going to be confirmed or denied one way or another during Comic-Con, so let's just wait and see.personally, I think it's going to be Cedric the Entertainer as Catwoman in Batman 3. you know what? that's not a bad rumor...why isn't AICN reporting on that?

Lord knows Bilbofett posted the same "dropped the ball" thing on all of them!

Anyway, to recap but not repeat what I said elswhere...the JGL rumour's been around a long time. Nolan/the people he works with NEVER confirm who's a "top consideration". He doesn't even give story hints.

Just because you hear a rumour that everybody else has been hearing for months, doesn't mean AICN dropped the ball. It's a fucking rumour, started by fanboys. It might happen. It might not. But until Nolan announces it, anyone who says it's true is full of shit.

Maybe no one cares because the rumor is soo obvious

    by spectrebeeyatch

JGL as the Riddler? Gasp! Um duh... How easy a rumor is that? Since he's one of the main actors in Inception. Murphy is already the Scarecrow and Leo probably won't be the Riddler soooooo JGL! He actually would be good but I'd seriously rather see him play the Joker but that will never happen. My only problem is how can Cobra Commander be the Riddler as well? It just doesn't make sense! But seriously when it comes to Batman and Nolan I don't trust everything that comes out at first. Mainly because he is taking a break after Inception and probably not a lot of Batman work has been done. Riddler is an easy guess as the next baddie since the pool for realistic villains is draining. Mr. Freeze? No. Croc? No. Clay Face?... None of the others really work in the Nolanverse so it has to be the Riddler. The real question I have is what else will happen? Will Harvey return? Will the league of shadows? Or at least Scarecrow? That is what I'm looking forward to finding out. The Riddler and who will play him to me already seems like old news.

people always did, and always will, complain

    by badmrwonka

but it wasn't the majority of people. and the regulars would admonish people that simply came here to bitch like an elderly woman that just goes out to a restaurant to complain.if people don't want to distinguish between someone defending this site because they love it, and someone who spends most or all of their time complaining about it (even as they visit it every day) then that's their deal. I love this site, and if I'm the bad guy in anyone's eyes for defending it, I couldn't care less. it's not going to dissuade me for continuing to do so.the talkbacks were never civil avenues of discourse, but they used to be people passionately arguing about movies, TV, comics, etc. when it devolved (as it OFTEN did) into name calling and insults, it was part and parcel of the whole thing. people got on each others case to blow off steam, because they were so excited about movies they loved, properties that they held dear, upcoming movies, casting choices, etc. it may seem hard to believe, since it's so commonplace now, but whining about how the site got scooped by an hour, or didn't run the 5th installment of an endless rumor, was the exception, not the rule.you can choose to believe that the site is a shell of its former self, and that even though it's free to all, you're somehow entitled to have the site run exactly as you see fit, but I do not agree. the web changed, and it changed what AICN is. but it didn't change the essence of what the site stands for. and people can complain that Harry or Quint or anyone are shills of this and that, or in the pocket of this and that, but it's just not true. Harry built this site from nothing, and that he's reached a level of success where he can count some important filmmakers and film people as friends makes me proud of him, not jealous or bitter. and if you say that you're not jealous or bitter, well fine, then what are you all so angry about? if Harry says, "Peter Jackson called me and told me etc. etc." there will be no less than 50 posts in the talkback tearing him a new one. how can that be anything but jealousy? if you really want scoops, if you really want it straight from the horse's mouth, the most reliable movie info out there, why WOULDN'T you want Harry to be connected to all of these people?and if you thin that this influences reviews, set visits, etc. well, maybe sometimes it does. but NO REVIEWER is going to be 100% impartial. the things you admonish Harry for are the same things that ALL people of his ilk get access to. Harry is not a pulitzer prize winning journalist, he's a MOVIE GEEK. and he's a movie geek made good. if any of you really value anything other than hearing your own voice in endless consternation, you'd be happy for him.and I really have to believe there are a lot of people out there who still are. they just don't post as much because the talkbacks are filled with your endless tears and full diapers. so I'm the Lorax that speaks for the trees, such as it is. so go ahead and keep at it. keep bitching, and I'll keep setting you straight. because as you may have noticed, I don't often shut up.

SDCC used to be about the comics and comic writers and comic artists...then Hollywood whored it up, and "Entourage" killed it. Too bad...it used to be enjoyable. Now it's just a 2 dollar whore, garishly overpainted and designed to blow you for $120 (or however much the bloated ticket stands at now). With as much cash being pumped in from the studios, networks and toy companies, don't you think the admission price should at least be kept lower?

    SDCC...

    by jabroni

I went last year and it was my first time there, in about 10 years. It is crazy insane, zillions of people. I had a great time, but by Saturday afternoon I was burned the F out. I skipped out on Sunday and decided to take my family to the beach. I was a good time, but 4 days is way to much. If you forgo the panels, 2 days is enough.

I hope the Riddler is not the next villain!!

    by brocknroll

Do we really need the Riddler again? Honestly think about it guys. I hope Christopher Nolan goes to Comic Con this weekend to deny the rumours! The next Batman should be something new and fresh. How about a villain that's never been used before? I would prefer villains such as Hugo Strange, Black Mask, Bane, Killer Croc, etc. The hell with the Riddler, that character is overrated. So please Mr. Nolan! NO RIDDLER!!!!

...if they did that, everyone on here would be bitching about that too. And it'd be like bitching about Star Trek Insurrection and Nemesis.

    SDCC needs to branch out...

    by moosemalloy

... into two different conventions. The first being for real comic book fans, writers and artists, and the second one being a more all inclusive pop culture convention (just like SDCC has become currently). This whole thing reminds me of a guy I knew who grew up thinking that comic books and superheroes were beneath him, but who now wears a Doom costume every year to show how much he is into comics. What an idiot.

God I hope JGL isn't going to be in Batman3

    by theneonsamurai

I like the kid, but he does not have the presence to play any sort of intimidating character. I could see him as Robin though.

Harrys best line of the panel.....

    by taragor

"With all this testosterone, I'm brining the estrogen"

Was great to see you mod the expendables panel...way frikin cool to see Bruce Willis show up! And is it just me or does Terry Hicks just seem to be a kid in a candy store. He genuinely just seems to be happy as shit to be a part of that group. He seems like an awesome guy.
