First animated Goon feature footage has turned up!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Goon has a big panel at Comic-Con, which I'm planning on attending and will have a full report on come Friday evening... in advance of the Con MTV received the first footage from the animated feature and it look awesome.
Franky is voiced by Paul Giamatti and The Goon is Clancy Brown! Great casting and the look of this is tops! Unless something has changed, this feature is being produced by David Fincher. Crazy, right?
If you haven't read Eric Powell's awesome Goon comics you're missing out. Watch the clip below, which'll hit ya' like a knife to the eye!

Looks really amazing. The music is pretty sweet too. A knife to the eye as well as a punch to the face.

July 19, 2010, 7:05 p.m. CST

MTV is debuting this footage, but it's not a show on MTV. It's a feature film adaptation of The Goon comic, produced by David Fincher. As far as I know it's an independent production (ie no distribution), but we'll see if there have been any new developments.
July 19, 2010, 7:22 p.m. CST
I mean Fuck Yeah!
July 19, 2010, 7:22 p.m. CST
that's how it's done! Now if Marvel could only do a Jack Kirby FF this way.
July 19, 2010, 7:26 p.m. CST
like Aardman style Stop-Motion animation? Heavens to Harryhausen!

into a series? The Goon looks like they stole their art style from Team Fortress.

But where's Neddy, Eccles, Bluebottle, Major Bloodnok, Moriarty etc.? I'm confused.
July 19, 2010, 7:35 p.m. CST
MTV/Bleeding Cool are reporting that both Giamatti and Fincher will be at the panel for this at Comic-Con.
July 19, 2010, 7:40 p.m. CST

But streaming media that buffers AGAIN after you've loaded the clip once? Backward, dumb, paranoid. Welcome to 2003.

Not sure if I pointed this out to you, but the island had Jack’s appendix removed 3 years prior to MIB/Locke stabbing him in that spot, which allowed him to live just a little bit longer so he could “lift it up, brotha” and replug the core inside the cave. If his appendix was there, it would’ve burst and he would’ve been dead in seconds. That’s Darlton’s genius preplanning 3 years in advance, plot-wise. That’s why they did a recall to it in the “alt” world, his appendix scar. And they pointed out in the s3 commentary that his appendix HAD to be removed, for a very specific reason to come much later. And Jack plugging the hole is a reference back to Desmond telling him in the s2 opener “you gotta lift it up brotha” (which was then a reference to his sprained ankle).
July 19, 2010, 8:01 p.m. CST
Exactly, an animated Kirby FF would be awesome!
July 19, 2010, 8:11 p.m. CST
Damn...
j/k ;-)
July 19, 2010, 8:12 p.m. CST

July 19, 2010, 8:36 p.m. CST
The years have not been good to him. From having his own show and his own horse to bit parts getting tied up and slapped around. *tsk* How the mighty have fallen.
July 19, 2010, 9:07 p.m. CST
thanks for the clarification
July 19, 2010, 9:18 p.m. CST
nice, like to see some slowed down stuff, scenes went by quick, has that Fincher shitstain look to it, cool
July 19, 2010, 9:19 p.m. CST
Fincher's greatest film thus far was Zodiac (imo)
July 19, 2010, 9:29 p.m. CST
....having never read the source material I don't know if the zombies are prominent but FUCK ME RUNNING are we not sick of everything having zombies yet?
July 19, 2010, 9:55 p.m. CST
Seriously...THAT LOOKS FREAKING AWESOME!!! GOOOOONNNNN!!!! Cannot wait for this...much like the comic itself, this will be the perfect antidote to the tights and capes crowd stinking up the multiplex.
July 19, 2010, 10:02 p.m. CST
July 19, 2010, 10:14 p.m. CST
I've followed this comic for many years, and I've followed Clancy Brown's career too. Great actor, PERFECT for the role. I am officially freaking the fuck out. WOW!!!
July 19, 2010, 10:42 p.m. CST
July 19, 2010, 10:54 p.m. CST
The Goon is my favourite comic and looks incredibly faithful to the source material and Eric Powell's styling. Glad to see not every adaption gets fucked up. Hooray!
July 19, 2010, 11 p.m. CST
because I thought it was stop-motion.
Gorgeous. So so gorgeous.
July 19, 2010, 11:09 p.m. CST
In a good way. I'm very much looking forward to this and you can't go wrong with Brown and Giamatti!(though I always imagined Ron Perlman and Steve Buscemi to be the definitive voices of Goon and Franky while reading the comics.)
July 19, 2010, 11:16 p.m. CST
Seriously...I've watchied that clip about 10 times now. I imagine I'll watch the actual movie that much once it hits!
July 20, 2010, 12:10 a.m. CST
July 20, 2010, 12:24 a.m. CST
But I really posted this because I've always wanted to be under Harry Knowles. BAM! Who does that tune in the teaser?
July 20, 2010, 12:52 a.m. CST
be at this panel! Damn I love being from San Diego and having parents that live in a sweet ass condo right next to Petco Park!
July 20, 2010, 1:20 a.m. CST
While the zombies are indeed prominent in The Goon comics, they aren't really the overplayed Romero-style zombies of recent years. They're really closer to old-school voodoo zombies.
July 20, 2010, 1:25 a.m. CST
but that teaser did nothing to me, it just felt so tired.
July 20, 2010, 1:50 a.m. CST
that teaser was obviously nothing more than test reel material. I guarantee you final product will be a billion times more polished in every possible way.
July 20, 2010, 2:36 a.m. CST
the tune is "White Trash" by Souther Culture on the Skids. It is on the record Dirt Track Date. I can't believe i just signed up just to post that.

Now what? Well... THE GOON!
July 20, 2010, 3:02 a.m. CST
I'm not going unless it has Grytpype-Thynne and Moriarty writing an IOU on the Mona Lisa.
July 20, 2010, 3:13 a.m. CST
I hope so, but as for now, I'm not that exited about this.
July 20, 2010, 4:10 a.m. CST
Cannot access the video here in F'N Backwoods Germany!! Now I am really pissed, I LOVE the Goon and am dying to see this. God, do I hate the country I am living in.... Someone please, please, please post this on youtube!!

the CGI style suits this perfectly but part of me was kinda hoping to see a live action version like Hellboy.

...That Snooki chick, is she supposed to be Hindu or something? Or does she just go through New Jersey's entire supply of fake tan every week? She's the color of the brown crusty top part of my Mom's Thanksgiving seet potato casserole! She's actually Burnt Umber... bitch is a friggin' human Crayola! She's also apparently as wide as she is tall.
July 20, 2010, 8:03 a.m. CST
...but I'd rather see painted cell animation, like an ultraviolent version of Snow White or Pinnochio.

. . . when the trailer for Tripletts of Bellville was first posted here. Just kept watching over and over. This looks nice! Speaking of Tripletts, what the hell is Chomet up to? Anything?
July 20, 2010, 9:13 a.m. CST
the lead character has no pupils? Does this not bother anybody else?!
July 20, 2010, 9:29 a.m. CST
This makes me wish for a Grim Fandango series. I would cream my shorts for this.
July 20, 2010, 10:01 a.m. CST
The one with no pupils is Franky, The Goon's buddy. The Goon being the big fella driving the car. Actually, in the comic, Franky has no teeth either. At least, they're never shown anyways.

I think its like an homage to Little Orphan Annie or something. The character is drawn that way in the comic.
July 20, 2010, 11:47 a.m. CST
Great to hear Southern Culture on the Skids in a soundtrack again!
July 20, 2010, 11:54 a.m. CST
Giamatti and Brown are perfect choices for the voice work.
I guess asking for an animated Metalocalypse crossover is too much, huh?
July 20, 2010, 12:12 p.m. CST
July 20, 2010, 1:31 p.m. CST
Nothing to add here but delight in the absolute coolness of this. It's been a long time since a clip or trailer made me as giddy as this one did.
July 20, 2010, 1:43 p.m. CST
Very disappointed. I respected better from the "producer" involved in this.
