I look forward to this. I thought the comic started the exact same way as 28 Days Later but was otherwise original. Note: At some point when they're in prison Darabont should have someone tunnel out through a Rita Hayworth zombie picture.

    by mrmambo

a few weeks ago while out jogging in the ATL. I live in Grant Park near the Zoo and they were using one of the 1920's bungalows as the main character Rick's house, I think, having read the comic. Had a tire swing out front and the grips spent quite a while getting it rigged-up correctly; would hate to have a zombie get hurt. It was in the upper 90's that day and I saw lots of replenishing fluids and first-aid kits to help beleaguered crew.

True, but to be fair, Danny Boyle borrowed the opening of 28 Days Later from John Wyndham's The Day of The Triffids. So it wasn't even original when he did it...

    by jaka

...they had in this project when it was announced and really worked it, allowing the excitement to build even more over the next few months. I'm also pretty stoked that Kirkman is working so closely with Darabont. And that Darabont is willing to speak embrace the various aspects of our geek culture so openly (comic books, zombies, online and viral marketing). Just pretty damn excited about this in general. Only drawback for me is still the small episode order. It should be at least 13 and I'd be much happier with a 20-22 episode full season run.

    Hmmm!

    by metahuman_slayer

I like Darabont. But The Walking Dead so far doesn´t look good to me. The comic works well for several reasons. Character driven (I trust Darabont with that part), black and white renderings (big fail) and "realistic" zombies (more fail). These zombies are all wet and don´t look rotten. We´ll see, generally it´s nice that we´ll finally get a well produced Zombie series on tv, but I don´t expect it to feel like the comic. This should have been an animated black and white show with good voice talent and stark contrasts and shadows.

That´s what I´d like to see more, adult well developed genre animation in series format.

    by alientoast

Meta, have you even been following this project? The zombies look "wet" because they are fresh. They have released production shots of "aged" zombies which look extremely decayed and/or dried out. Infact, many of said production shots are on this site!

Spoilers on how I think seasons might run

    by turingtestee

Episode 6 (season 1.0) ends with Ricks son shooting Shane. Episode 12 (1.5) ends with discovery of prison. 18 ends with Rick stating "We are the walking dead." Number 24 finishes prison arc. Cant help but think they will end up at the prison much sooner. Still dont like the casting of Rick . . . he should be someone that you instantly trust upon first meeting. Have they cast Tyreese yet? Or might his character be absorbed by the Shane character?

    by metahuman_slayer

Actually I haven´t, good to know. Rotten animatronic zombies are so much more interesting than the wet wound on aged makeup, which seems cheap. I just loved some of the zombies in Lifeforce (and LMAOed at Patrick Stewart´s possession scene, best fun ever!!!).I just hope they´ll have the guts to pull the more dramatic and hardcore moments from the series, like Samurai lady doing her spoon thing, and the sheriff´s kid removing the obstacles (won´t spoil it for ya guys, just read the comic;).

Maybe Invincible gets the animation treatment, that one is essentially impossible to do for real as a series.

    by weresmurf77

These are words straight from Darabonts mouth:

"Season 1 is six episodes long. Season 2 and further seasons will be 13 episodes long."

Also, Darabont said that at the end of Season 2, they will find the Prison, not before. So that's around Episode 19 or so. That gives plenty of time during 2 to be a road trip, Herschells farm and the discovery to take place.

Again: Read my fucking lips: 6 episodes for season 1. 13 episodes FOR EACH AND EVERY FUCKING SEASON AFTERWARDS.

Nice little Clip from MTV News!!
Wow, mr. Darabont would like to do 20 years of Zombie TV?!? Yes please!! He seems like a VERY cool guy!
ANother thing about the clip that I really liked? Besides (the..pardon the pun here...) bit n pieces/glimpses of the Zombies? Actually hearing from the graphic novel worter/creator and hearing how he was impressed with how the filming is going and how frank Darabont is showing nothing but respect and trying to craft a show that we all can't wait to see in October!! :) (Now if only more Hollywood Directors and Studios would do the same thing when it comes to making a Movie from an awesome novel as opposed to doing the "Based on the Novel by..." (I cringe when I see that on the Movie Screen, usually that means.."we fucked the movie up completely and fuck you fans of the novel!) or destroying the entire concept/idea/story and making complete and utter garbage (I still have never forgiven David Lynch for fucking up "Dune" back in 1984!!)

    by sh4rkbyt3

I am so tired of the Vampire sagas that have been played out for the last 80+ years. It's past time the zombie genre took over and brought in some fresh ideas. I mean how many times can you watch some guy dressed up as the new Dracula bite a woman's neck. But of course now they've added more of a teen drama to it to entice new viewers but it's still the same old tired story no matter how many different characters you add to it.

    by malificus

I don't remember anything like this in the comics, don't mean to be a stickler but Darabont's rap about "expanding" things sounds like bullshit to me. Follow the goddamned story you fucking hack, what's so hard about that? Why do directors feel beholden to screw around with stuff when they adapt it, that bunk about "everything he came up with was better.." is that ass clown the writer? 'Cause if he is I've lost a ton of respect for him getting on there and being an apologist for someone fucking up his work. I get it, give the guy access to the set, let him stand around, give him a few minutes on ET and he better give it up for the production. Horseshit. The story sells itself, adapt it, what ego to "make it better". Who the fuck are you, douchebag?
