13 Pics From TRANSFORMERS 3's Chicago Shoot!! Men With Guns!! Streets Of Destruction!! A Bot On A Building!! Bay!!

Merrick here...
Our Chicago readers are on-the-ball and kicking-ass, sending in a butt load of photos from the filming of TRANSFORMERS 3 in Chicago. First off, well done, folks. Secondly, we appreciate your efforts...we really do. Thank you. First up, two EMBIGGENABLE!!! images from our man Highrise. The first picture gives you a nice sense of this production's scale. The second? Don't know if that's a one-off pic used only to promote the Chicago shoot, or our first glimpse of CGI robot from the new film. It'll be fun to see if that shot is actually used in the picture (I'm betting it won't be).

Here are some pics from Fat Kid Revolution. The top image shows Mister Bay talking to a man with, not surprisingly, a really big gun. The second? What's a location shoot on a Bay film without some ' boom'? And that one looks pretty reasonable - I like the little spindly tracers.

This final batch is from Eggwhisk, who contextualized his images thusly:
Transformers 3 was filming today in central Chicago, there seemed to be some drama at the N.Michigan Bridge, which had a car dangling at one end, as well as wrecked cars on fire. The whole thing was filmed via helicopter and a rig on a wire, although I must admit it was very hard to tell what was going on, but it looked like typical Michael Bay 'blowing shit up' stuff

    by theycallmemrtibbs

Probably the coolest shit I've seen In a while was the parachuters jumping off the Trump Towers and landing on Michigan Avenue. Oh and Shia running (not so cool), then taking a break for the weekend. They're shooting on Upper Wacker as we speak, right over the tunnel (Lower Wacker) where the chase scenes were shot for The Dark Knight.

    by I am_NOTREAL

These movies will end...and then the glorious and free hilarity that is a Transformers talkback will end, and a little light will go out in the world. But until that day comes, I say BRING IT ON! These TBs are massively entertaining and a great pleasure to read...ever time I see a TF item on AICN I get a little giddy.

everyone says that the first was alright but the 2nd sucked

    by 2007

well the second had a writers strike to deal with (unlike ironman 2 yet everyone talks about the weak script) pointless desert action and big egos from a a praised previous film. This 2nd sequel looks like it's back on track and the action is back in the city. Along with news that speilberg is taking a more hands on approach with story this film looks like it will be as FUN as the first. long live cinema for teh sake of enjoyment and not for talk back cred or so called "excellence." $1 billion gross this time boys.

    by Charles_Corkey_Thatcher

Making a movie that everyone knows is going to be lame. I know it will end up making money, but does the world really need another lame story like this being told. How about doing something good with your money studios. Spare us the retarded musing of a untalented man-child

    I'm jacked for this film

    by RedBull_Werewolf

The second one had some cool parts, The forest fight was the best fight from either of the first 2 movies. I bought the Bluray just for that scene. Bay had the writers strike to deal with and everyone has admited the last one was bloated and rushed, I think T3 is going to really impress alot of people

    no "doc brown bot" ?

    by Bouncy X

i'm sure it'll eventually come here but some other site posted a pic of someone holding those sticks with faces they use for the robots. its a new character and i shit you not, he has white hair sticking out from both sides and seems "bald" on top. there are rumors of Perceptor being in this so i bet thats him. what says hollywood movie scientist better than a white haired guy. lol

  • July 19, 2010, 11:33 a.m. CST

Just looks like more of the same

    by BetterCallSaul

What this one needs is Soundwave (with the classic voice) playing a major role, and maybe at least one major fight sequence/battle taking place in Earth's orbit. And I'm getting a little tired of Josh Dushamel & Tyrese's soldier characters. I know they have to put a human face in there to represent the people, but isn't that what Shia Laboeuf is for. I don't recall the military playing such a huge role in the cartoons.

Bay had the writers strike to deal with so he decided

    by UltraTron

hilarious hip-hop bots would fill in the gaps and move the story along. Ok so the transformers are a threat to us and sink our ships and destroy our cities yet we have a weapon that can destroy a Godzilla-size transformer in one shot with no problem. How much do you want to bet you never see that tech used again? Why don't the ground troops have a smaller version of that for dealing with pesky auto-bots? We have humvee chemical laser tanks in real life and handheld was on the table last time I checked. Also because of mike being such an absentee landlord on these movies, we haven't seen many of the classic robot cliches that should have been in the first film. Stomping a human. Eating a human with those sharp megatron teeth. Carrying a girl while she kicks and screams. Carrying an unconscious girl..

I stand by my viewpoint that the twins are not racist

    by RedBull_Werewolf

If you see racism in them then that says alot about you, the characters never state they are black, but you preceive them to be because of your own racial sterotypes. I think the reason people are mad at Bay and the twins was because it forced them to confront their own prejudices. And besides they are fucking robots, thats like saying my cat is a racial sterotype because it had a litter of kitties and then bailed

    by Charlie_Allnut

    I'll pass.

  • July 19, 2010, 11:57 a.m. CST

    Actually it is VERY debatable

    by RedBull_Werewolf

The fact that a robot talks with slang and you immediatly say it's a racial sterotype is very concerning. The only people who seem to throw around the racist word when it comes to the twins are white people. Now, yes granted black people that saw the film were probabaly too busy hooting and hollering at the screen to hear the dialogue, but talking in slang does not make one a racial sterotype. Anyone who say that in them are infact themselves racist and it rather sickens me

  • July 19, 2010, 11:58 a.m. CST

These photos could be from the first movie

    by THAT__SAID

and you wouldn't even know the difference. Come on Michael Bay, I know you're a shit director but at least stop remaking your back catalogue over and over.
The first movie and asteroid impacts from Armageddon and that stupid camera rotation trick during the shootout like in Bad Boys 2. The second had Pearl Harbor battleship destruction and now in the new one we're getting... more robots fighting in a city!

  • July 19, 2010, 12:02 p.m. CST

RedBull, The twins we're racial stereotypes.

    by KEVIN_COSTNERS_RECYCLED_PISS

Every racial stereotype that black people have to contend with were represented in those two characters. Stop defending the undefendable.

  • July 19, 2010, 12:03 p.m. CST

Anyone know what the subtitle is going to be?

    by RedBull_Werewolf

It's not gonna be something lame, like "on stranger tides" is it?

  • July 19, 2010, 12:08 p.m. CST

Well in that case, Optimus was a white sterotype

    by RedBull_Werewolf

He was well organized, in charge of the team, spoke with pronounced proper english, didn't break the law, he was noble and heroic without having a reason to do it.
The racial accusations thrown at the twins is only because it's another thing to beat up on bay about. If the robot twins in Transformers 2 is the most racist thing you've seen then consider yourself lucky to have lived in such a sheltered world

How is being noble and heroic a white 'Sterotype'?

    by KEVIN_COSTNERS_RECYCLED_PISS

Do you even know what the word actually mean? Bay has gone on record saying that his vision of the Twins was that he wanted bots with whom the younger audience could really identify, and the funny thing is that I actually believe him. I don't think he set out to make two grotesque caricatures; I think he honestly believes these characters reflect some aspect of youth culture and not just a cartoony, broad vision of black youth. Bay's films have never been all that racially sensitive but the Twins surely represented an all-time low.

    by KEVIN_COSTNERS_RECYCLED_PISS

How come no one ever mentions the buck-toothed black human character that appears in an equally stereotypical Jewish deli halfway through the film? He doesn’t seem to serve any purpose aside from Michael Bay obviously thinks he's 'funny lookin' and it'll get a cheap laugh from the auidence.
Fuck this fucking fuck of a director.

    Still there despite "Fallen"

    by Jabroni

I loved the first, "Fallen" was just so painfully long and just had to much going on. But I love the TF. So I am hoping for a shorter, tighter story that has robots kicking ass. I like what Bay does when he's in top form (The Rock, Bad Boys I & 2,). despite the fact that "Fallen" hade so much money, I hope he's learned from his mistakes. Either way, they are getting my 15 bucks.
If I can ask one more thing...Where is the blu-ray for Bab Boys II?

  • July 19, 2010, 12:43 p.m. CST

So now only white people can be "funny looking"?

    by RedBull_Werewolf

Who cares what color the guys skin was, if he's funny looking he's funny looking, it doesn't mean Bay thinks all blacks are funny looking or that he stuck a creepy looking extra in the scene to make a racial statement
You nerds read waty too in to things and when you don't like someone you really nitpick everything and throw accusations of race or homosexuality at them
Bay may not be your favourite director, but do you for a second think he's a racist? The guy has done two films with blacks as the leads, not to mention he always has a ethnically diverse cast in his movies, hell he even cast Megan fox and she's not even from this planet

    Transformers 3 will make 400 million +

    by RedBull_Werewolf

In the end, the studio and other investors get their money back, the film will be number one opening weekend and sell out several imax theatres. I love how a few whiny fanboys claim it will bomb. Odds are the same people that whine will be there opening weekend to see it. you guys are fucked up that way, even if you claim to 'hate" something you'll still drop money on it and spend a vast amount of time and energy talking about your "hate" of it. Way to stay a virgin forever losers!

  • July 19, 2010, 12:56 p.m. CST

Hey, I don't think Bay is intentionally racist, he's just ignora

    by KEVIN_COSTNERS_RECYCLED_PISS

Both the twin characters speak with voices that sound like urban black stereotypes, they have big ears and buck teeth, again stereotypes that have historically been thrown at black people, the same can be said for the fact that they "don’t do much readin".
Did you think Mickey Rooney playing the Japenese character in Breakfast At Tiffany's wasn't racist either? Oh but that's different isn't it because in Transformers they're 'robots from space' so it doesn't count.
If there was a robot who was good at math, had slanted eyes and talked with an asian accent it would be a racial stereotype. Just as the Skids and Mudflap characters are racial stereotypes. It doesn't mean that Michael Bay is trying to be racist, just that he's a very deluded man.

    by KEVIN_COSTNERS_RECYCLED_PISS

And for the most part I actually enjoy most Michael Bay movies, even Armageddon which is a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine.
However, after watching that shitty, cringeworthy, overlong and BOOOORING peace of shit known as Revenge of the Fallen I can quite honestly say that I will NOT be there first showing and It'll take alot of postive reviews to get me in a seat. Yeah, I'm sure it'll make a fortune at the boxoffice but if it sucks as bad as the last one it won't get any money from me.

Besides black people really don't see these movies, giant robots scare them because they have been conditioned by evolution to relate machinery with the Cotton gin and their time as slaves, it's the same reason we fear bugs..evolution abay

= Bayformers 3. Isn't Transformers escapist sci-fi about a covert battle between factions of living machines for galactic supremacy? Why is it being targeted to hillbilly red necks?

    I agree Dingbatty

    by ConfusedPanda

With some movies talkbackers can respond to negative comments by saying "Complain all you want, but you'll still see it opening weekend." However, I agree with you that a third Transformers movie is not an example of that. I did not see the first two movies in the theater, and I will not see the third movie in the theater. I was entertained by The Rock like many others, yet I did see the first Transformers movie and I surprised by how much time (especially during the first half of the movie) was spent on not blowing shit up. And Bay struggles with not blowing shit up when he doesn't have veteran actors (Sean Connery, Steve Buscemi). Plus, I realize a lot of people thought the extended action sequences were really cool in the first two movies (enough to justify liking the movies), yet I just didn't crave seeing more of the same after the first movie. Yes, he can do even longer, louder, and more expensive sequences in each subsequent movie, yet they should be (1) more ambitious/creative (I like the TBer who suggested a sequence take place in Earth's orbit...at least that's different) and be (2)part of a more focused, entertaining movie.

"If you think you hate it now, just wait till you drive it"

    by conspiracy

Michael could not help but to cackle with delight thinking of this quote, and then of his own upcoming TF3, the third movie in what had become a very lucrative, if despised, movie franchise. "God damn I love my life" Bay crowed to nobody in particular, as he sauntered over to the catering tent; Chicago was a hell hole true, but it was his kind of hell hole; and while nowhere near as fun as Detroit with it's numerous underaged and economically desperate hookers, Bay was none the less in his element amid the PBR swilling people of this blue collar, pork bellied, typically low expectation as a rule mid-western megalopolis.

Looking up as he walked along, casually taking a sip of his second 11am Pabst, and spying the "Sun-Times" logo atop a nearby building Bay lifted his hand to the air and extended his mighty middle finger. "Hey Mike...don't you think that is tempting the fates" a passing cameraman named Sam shouted out; whipping around Bay reached into his pocket...pulling forth a massive wad of 100 dollar bills, easily in the 5 figures, held together with a money clip in the shape of a vagina, the bills poking through the slit between the lips..., "Fuck Ebert...Sam, if I had have a chance I'd shove this right down his feeding tube...thumbs down on this Fucker" Bay roared as the cameraman, now walking a bit faster, blanched at the monsterous response. Yes...Life was "fucking" good for Michael Bay, He thought..." I have more money than anyone but Speilberg and Lucas, a Fresh new vagina to plow daily in this flick, and plenty of poorly educated, mindless people to again lick up my on screen seed." He reached down, stroking his engorged cock through his leather pants...and stopping, turned away from the promise of 5 star catered fair and began the short walk to the trailer of Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. "Nope..not an actress" Bay thought as his paced quickend with the depth of his hunger, "But neither was that juice box Megan when I hired her...if a girl will do ass to mouth and wash my ride, she's good enough for any film", his thoughts ended as his hand touched her door.

    MTA buses?

    by ggreenw

Are they trying to use Chicago as a stand-in for NYC?? I surely hope that Michael Bay wouldn't do something that ridiculous (lol), but the bus in the photo up above says "MTA", and here in Chicago all buses are CTA.

    Not a cent

    by OnO

I'm not spending a dollar on this bastard. No games, no toys, no fucking McDonalds happy meals or Burger King glasses or whatnots. No Dvds or Blu-ray. That's how bad the second movie screwed the third. There's two ways I'm seeing this movie. One: the hardest of core critics say Bay pulled it out of his ass and actually made a good movie with a passable plot. (I'm not holding my breath on that one) Two: when I'm stuck on some airplane and I can't escape via suicide.

  • July 20, 2010, 11:23 a.m. CST

I wonder: if spielberg had hired a different director...

    by AsimovLives

... who could make a Transformer movie which would follow the original idea behind the franchise and make a movie which could have appeal to the children younger then 13 years as well, the same way that Brad bird did with his THE INCREDIBLES, i'm certain the Transformers movies would had been much more sucessful at the box office then the retard frat-boy juvenille bullshit stuff that Bay turned the franchise into. This movies don't make as much money as they could, thanks to Bay. I hope one day Spielberg will realise that.

  • July 20, 2010, 11:28 a.m. CST

Ah Spielberg, I can still hear him saying,

    by A_Clockwork_Irony

in many interviews how he HATES the "MTV-style" editing. Hmmm, hey, I know, why not get Bay to make your movie! Jeepers.

  • July 20, 2010, 11:29 a.m. CST

One hillarious thing about the geeks who support Bay...

    by AsimovLives

... is they they completly miss the point that they are suppoorting and hommaging and praising a frat boy very mnuch like the one that bully them and beated the shit out of them in high school. Geeks supporting Bay is like you giving away your lunch money to the school fratboy bully and thanking him for that. How more clueless can this people get? Self-hating geeks who turn themselves into willing victims of bullies for the sake of false promises and outright theft. Fucking asses!

  • July 20, 2010, 11:33 a.m. CST

    A_Clockwork_Irony

Yeah, I need an inception to appreciate Bay. Hmmm, maybe I tried to do that very thing and am stuck in limbo! Holy shit, maybe Lucas, and Bay, and most of Hollywood hasn't actually turned to predictable shit! So, when I watch the prequels, the idea of shooting myself is actually a way to get back to the reality that is the 70s/early 80s of art from adversity! Sweet!

  • July 21, 2010, 6:41 p.m. CST

the bay is filled with an ocean of...

    by AllThosePowers

...piss, puke and shit, nothing lives in it because no form of life has been engineered with ears and eyes that are capable of enduring the arse-sucking mess that he smoothers the screen in - i'm fortunate enough to have only watched three films by him one of the was the rock, but that was because i was a huge brukheimer and simpson fan, i never even heard of bay back then. Then I saw Con-Air, i walked out half way through. My girlfriend took me to see bad boys, i intentionally fell asleep, so that makes one film as it was two halves. I then saw TF, suffice to say the propensity to act out my violent thoughts on bay immediately surfaced, I will not watch another bay shitfest out of necessity, for if I did I would go to jail, and there's no way I'll do time for that mother-analing sister fucker!!! I just wont see his films. The cunt.
