Holy Guzman, Batman! New set pics from the ARTHUR remake show a substantially geeky side to the new rich playboy!

Published at:  Jul 19, 2010 3:42:04 AM CDT

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I love the original Arthur and I know there are people who just hate Russell Brand to death, but I find the dude funny. I'm not totally against this remake, especially after the incredibly smart casting of Helen Mirren in the John Gielgud role. Gielgud won the Oscar for his performance as Hobson, Arthur's butler, and deserved it. Mirren being in the role can only put more distance between her performance and Gielgud's.

Also, I didn't realize Luis Guzman was in it! The Guz! Or just how geeky this Arthur is. Apparently he's obsessed with Batman... there are even set pics that surfaced a while back featuring the Joel Schumacher Batmobile.

Zimbio has a series of pictures of Luis Guzman playing Robin to Russell Brand's nipple-suited Batman that just make me laugh. Click the pic below to see 'em all.

I know Brand can't top what Dudley Moore did with the character or even match the sweetness and heart that counteracted Arthur's annoying, drunk pampered rich kid role, but if they can give this flick its own identity, let it stand on its own two feet, then it just could work. Thoughts?

I love the original, and thought casting Brand was a terrible idea when somebody like Hugh Laurie would be really fun in the role. But casting Helen Mirren as Hobson makes me think this might be a huge surprise.

    by crow3711

Honestly, this suit has been made fun of in more nerd movies than they've used the "these aren't the aroids you're looking for" joke. Lame. I would respect this flick if they had him wearing the suit but never actually make an overt joke about the nipples. But you KNOW there will be a lane one line about the nipples for no reason. It's the equivalent of a talkbacker writing the joke. Just lazy. No more batmans nipple jokes. It's old

Other than that, funny pic, might be a good flick. As others have said, Mirren and Brand together should be, at the least, a novel experience.

I'm not really against remakes, never have been, but this is not even near the top of my list. Yes, the home video market is huge, but this should not dissuade studios from re-releasing popular films from their libraries. What's more, it can be very profitable to do so. Hell, not so long ago, it was common practice, particularly at Disney. Who wouldn't go see Peter Pan or Pinocchio on a big screen? And yes, I fucking despise Russell Brand.

Not crazy about remakes, but if they're gonna do it, I always hope for the best. At least this should bring about a remastered dvd/blu. Not putting much hope for a special edition though, Dudley, Gielgud, and Steve Gordon are all gone, and Liza is kinda scary looking. Even the guy who played her dad(and he was a hoot) is dead. Actually, now that I think about it, I'm not sure I'd want to see a special edition. About all they'd come up with is a music video with Liza and Christopher Cross dueting(shudder).

    Whatever happened to...

    by triple_j_72

...original Hollywood ideas? ...comedians who are actually funny? ...movie stars I could admire? God, I'm old.

    Don't remind them of Mannequin...

    by eustisclay

...wouldn't be surprised if it's already being planned though. But it was already a remake(of a Touch of Venus if I remember right. I saw it as a kid, but I don't remember if it was good or not)>

Actually, Clooney's suits came from the same molds as Kilmer's. New BatSuits were being designed for B&R, until it was discovered that Georgey had comparable measurements, so they just pulled new suits from the Forever molds, with metallic blue pigments instead of black.

Actually, most of the B&R's blue sheen was added with specialized inks that were marred damn near every time it was handled, requiring constant touch-ups.

Also, JettL1993, you're not funny, stop posting. It wouldn't cost millions of dollars to replace something that could easily be recreated by simply pulling molds off of the B&R statue that came out in '97 (the source of numerous fan replicas) or simply purchasing a replica from several well-known artists.

Completely ignoring the fact that the foam latex originals are in no condition to actually be worn today without looking awful and causing considerable damage to an expensive and rare piece.

Is this a remake or reboot or retelling....

I really hope this piece of crap dies at the box office. Moore and Gielgud are rolling in their graves.

The Scottish like to hate the English because they are bitter about being CRUSHED TO A PATHETIC PULP so many times. They are a very weak nation, as is common knowledge here in the States.
