Holy Guzman, Batman! New set pics from the ARTHUR remake show a substantially geeky side to the new rich playboy!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I love the original Arthur and I know there are people who just hate Russell Brand to death, but I find the dude funny. I'm not totally against this remake, especially after the incredibly smart casting of Helen Mirren in the John Gielgud role. Gielgud won the Oscar for his performance as Hobson, Arthur's butler, and deserved it. Mirren being in the role can only put more distance between her performance and Gielgud's.
Also, I didn't realize Luis Guzman was in it! The Guz! Or just how geeky this Arthur is. Apparently he's obsessed with Batman... there are even set pics that surfaced a while back featuring the Joel Schumacher Batmobile.
Zimbio has a series of pictures of Luis Guzman playing Robin to Russell Brand's nipple-suited Batman that just make me laugh. Click the pic below to see 'em all.

I know Brand can't top what Dudley Moore did with the character or even match the sweetness and heart that counteracted Arthur's annoying, drunk pampered rich kid role, but if they can give this flick its own identity, let it stand on its own two feet, then it just could work. Thoughts?

Brand isnt funnny
-
The Forever batmobile rocks, sure...but the suit from B&R? Blah!
-
Oh, well. He can have her. She's annoying as he is.
-
Jul 19, 2010 3:49:32 AM CDT
cost effective maybe? I dunno. Surpsied they still had that suit
by mike_d
-
And he probably has quite a few of those. Get a blood test done, Katey Perry!
-
i have no idea what to think about this
-
I love the original, and thought casting Brand was a terrible idea when somebody like Hugh Laurie would be really fun in the role. But casting Helen Mirren as Hobson makes me think this might be a huge surprise.
-
I think that's a pretty damn great Batsuit.
-
And the Forever Batmobile was a neon mess. But I do love the 89 version.
-
Is a talent-free oxygen-thieving waste of his father's ejaculate. He's as funny as genital warts and twice as ugly. But I don't have strong feelings about him.
-
...but the Batman obsession idea is funny.
-
God, I hate that guy. So very...wery...much.
-
He is excellent; fabulously articulate and randomly surreal. As an actor i doubt he has range at all.
-
I can't watch Brand on TV, and I definitely can't watch him in a feature-length. I just hope they don't kill off Mirren.
-
Other than that, it's pretty fucking awesome. I'm surprised they put the effort into recreating the suit (I imagine they merely dusted off the molds like they did for B&R) since the originals are rotting away.
-
Hopefully he can imitate Dudley Moore by ending his days as a crippled alcoholic..please santa.
-
Arthur is clearly going to be a "make or break" film. If it turns out to be crap he won't get any more chances. But yeah he'd still be fucking Katy Perry so I won't feel sorry for the guy.
-

That, my friends, is how Robin should look
by inexplicable_nuclear_balls
Finally nailed the character on film. Thank God.
-
russell brand is more then screwing katy perry. it was rumoured a couple of weeks ago, they got married and pretended it never happened.
-
One of them looks like a sex toy?
-
Batmobile making an appearance too. Brand is still a gobshite though, and all the Batmobiles and Helen Mirrens in the world won't change that.
-
He's absolutely horrible on stage. But I have to admit, I thought he was hilarious in Forgetting Sarah Marshall. He's definitely better on screen.
-
No. Really. I'm laughing right now. While you're reading this. Whenever you're reading this. Wherever I am I'm laughing.
-
The orginal molds have since been lost so the production was going to have to spend millions to recreate the suit. well i get a phone call a few weeks ago asking if i knew of any orginal plans for the suit so that they could create a new one, well i said, i have the plans but I'll do you one better, I have the actual suit!I have actually kept a copy of all the batman on film suits since batman '89 and i was glad to give them forever's suit for a few days of shooting, you know it's funny, this business has its ups and downs but sometimes, just sometimes it pays to know a someone who just may have something your looking for
-
Still he's not getting me to see this movie. Best Guz role: The Count of Monte Cristo. He was the ultimate funny and badass sidekick.
-
Just the vibe I get from the set reports. I guess alcoholism isn't as funny either, these days.
-
Infact back when studios and his agent were pressuring him to change his name to Duncan White, i encouraged guz to stick with his roots and keep his real name, years later he would thank me for reminding him of who he really was
-
Hipflasks and miniatures aplenty. So to answer my own question, yes - he is probably still a drunk.
-
...but Russell Brand is cast perfectly in this role.
-
... as they pertain to Russell Brand and my desire to see him in movies generally involve a body-sized bag, some weights, and a large body of water.
-
I honestly don't think I'll see anything more fucked up than that this week...and I'm going to Comic-Con!
-
send The Guz geek love from all of us. Duncan White? Fuck that shit. I was reading an article about how his family moved to Vermont, and other than leaving for his acting gigs, he's pretty much jut a regular guy. That's professional. Oh, and tell him Monte Cristo was his best.
-
the first teaser or at the very least one of the trailers will try and make people believe its another batman movie. and i agree, whats up with the Schumacher stuff? even when Drew Carey won the batmobile on his show, it was the "Forever" version as well. maybe WB lost all of the Burton props etc..
-
for an MTV contest.
-
Thank all that's holy for those flesh-coloured leggings. That's all I'm saying on the subject.
-
for being the white Bagger Vance....Duncan White indeed.....
-
Your death will accomplish two greats things. First, it will make the world a better place 'cause you're no longer consuming oxygen. Second, it will free up Katy Perry. Wait, what do I care about Katy Perry. She's obviously a no-talent hack as well as a fucking douche (I mean, she married YOU right, Brand?). So, I guess just one great thing will be accomplished. But that's one very great thing and you should be proud of that. So, do it already. Make with the fucking dying.
-
The guy was exactly like you would think a guy named duncan white would be, to this day i doubt he's even touched a boob
-
A parody and the parody of a parody, vis-a-vis JettL93 and JettL1993? Seriously, I'm curious.
-
Not even that funny. Brand is less funny than eating a chick out, thinking she's getting really moist, turning on the lights, and discovering that the moisture was just the oozing herpes outbreak. He's about THAT funny.
-
Going by this pic . I wonder is there going to be some sort of rip-off / homage to the Batman and Robin gag in that famous episode of Only Fools and Horses.
Only certain people of a certain age in a certain part of the world will know what I'm talking about but that's the first thing I thought about when I saw this . -
It's hilarious that someone would bitch about the choice of Bat-suit. It's a fucking comedy, you infantile Dark Knight nerd. It's supposed to be funny, not cool.
-
It's the same reason I despise Will Farrell.
-
it was about a 40-something guy who's only happiness comes from booze and hookers. It looks like they're making it about a 20-something guy with a peter pan complex. Not quite as serious a problem.
-
LOL.
-
of individuals with sticks up asses this morning. I'm liking the fact that they seem to be trying to do their own thing with this project rather than a shot-for-shot remake of the original. But even if it goes down in flames we'll still have the original to enjoy, so I'll not be having any infantile hissyfits about this flick.
-
Honestly, this suit has been made fun of in more nerd movies than they've used the "these aren't the aroids you're looking for" joke. Lame. I would respect this flick if they had him wearing the suit but never actually make an overt joke about the nipples. But you KNOW there will be a lane one line about the nipples for no reason. It's the equivalent of a talkbacker writing the joke. Just lazy. No more batmans nipple jokes. It's old
Other than that, funny pic, might be a good flick. As others have said, Mirren and Brand together should be, at the least, a novel experience. -

Wait, so JettL93 and JettL1993 aren't the same dude?
by redbull_werewolf
I thought he was banned as L93 and came back as L1993. If KL1993 really is an imposter it begs two questions1)how sad is your life when you have to impersonate a troll rather then creating your own2) what the hel;l happend to the real Jett?
-
...should've played Robin.
-
Of course, the batsuits wouldn't fit Brand, as each suit was tailor made for the specific actor, and as brand is considerably skinnier that either Kilmer or Clooney - the suits wouldn't have fit. So what hilarious contrivance did you come up with to get out of that one?
-
I met him once and he seemed determined to show how much cleverer he was than everyone around hum, sadly missing the point that people who demean others intelligences can never really be considered that smart. Still I don't begrudge him success and hope this film does well.

"The Lives of John Lennon" would make a good Arthur-style movie
by crimson dynamo
I know everyone hates that book, but some of Lennon's stoned misadventures could make for a pretty funny movie
-
Can you write Harry's review of Predators for him
-
If I was 12 I guess this would be interesting...I guess. As it is there isn't a single thing this man has ever done to deserve an ounce of admiration, respect or desire on our part to see him stumble through anything creative. It's a sad day when he gets a woman who looks like Katy Perry (though as someone else said he can have her shes every bit as talentless and annoying as he is) and make millions of dollars... sad.
-
I'm not really against remakes, never have been, but this is not even near the top of my list. Yes, the home video market is huge, but this should not dissuade studios from re-releasing popular films from their libraries. What's more, it can be very profitable to do so. Hell, not so long ago, it was common practice, particularly at Disney. Who wouldn't go see Peter Pan or Pinocchio on a big screen? And yes, I fucking despise Russell Brand.
-
Beyond that I can't judge him...gotta see Get Him to the Greek.
-
Or the English version of Tom Green.
Take your pick. -
Dudly Moore. Didn't he kinda play a lush, slash spoiled brat already with characters he portrayed in Sarah Marshall and the Get him to the Greek? Isn't his career becoming a bit exploitive? What's his next project? A remake of a Fish called Wanda? Is it because of his accent that the studios will believe he can channel John Cleese? Or what about Mary Poppins? Benny Hill Biopic perhaps? This dude is going to burn out quicker than a Crack head trapped in a Cocaine factory, that produces Cocaine.
-
men's chests when they have chests. Especially when they are wearing Wayne-Tech skin-tight nano-armor.
-
Or be funny at all unless tightly controlled in a one-note character by Judd Apatow.
-
exact same thing! here's the only fools and horses version for all you yankie scum: http://tinyurl.com/2cbznkc
-
in apatow films but NOT anywhere else?! jesus christ man you've got it all backwards! his standup was okay and his radio show was great... until his american friends (the apatow clan) started guesting on it. those guys cant improv/tell jokes/generally be funny if it was life or death. blech.

So emulating Schumacher's Batman will help him seem "different"
by jt kirk
Sounds like an affectation.
-
I can understand not finding him funny, but the vitriol is inexplicable. What, did he fuck your sisters?
-
Show me one person under 30 that takes the time to watch the original "Arthur". I'm 38 and maybe saw it once a million years ago, when I was to young to appreciate. I think this is one case where a remake will inject new life into the original. I know for me, it will as I will seek it out and watch within the next year.
And yes Brand was the best part of Sarah Marshall -
...I remember when they used to re-release flicks. God, I'd love it if they'd re released the original Arthur instead. Not crazy about remakes, but if they're gonna do it, I always hope for the best. At least this should bring about a remastered dvd/blu. Not putting much hope for a special edition though, Dudley, Gielgud, and Steve Gordon are all gone, and Liza is kinda scary looking. Even the guy who played her dad(and he was a hoot) is dead. Actually, now that I think about it, I'm not sure I'd want to see a special edition. About all they'd come up with is a music video with Liza and Christopher Cross dueting(shudder).
-
seriously I'm cool with remakes of movies from before I was born (37 yrs ago this Saturday to be exact) but stop remaking 80's movies. What is next? Tootsie?? Fast Times? or worst of all Mannequin??
-
The Dude is lame and unfunny, Plain and Simple.
-
...cuz it's gonna BOMB.
-
It will be a documentary with Mel Gibson.
-
According to IMDB Linda (the Liza role) is being played by Jennifer Garner. Now the great new discovery Greta "Greenberg" Gerwig is also in it. But she's so perfect for a 2010 version of Linda I'm thinking IMDB has it wrong and Garner is playing Arthur's approved fiance, Susan, played originally by whatshername from "LA Law"....
-
This photo has changed my mind.
-
Pachanga!
-
Did this asshole do to his face? He looks even MORE hideous! Eeck, I don't get the appeal.
-
wearing tight clothing, doesn't he? Oh yeah, he is SO manly....
-
to hate is to fail
-
Hahahahahahaha.
-
May this tank, so that the Drop Dead Fred remake doesn't happen.
-
...original Hollywood ideas? ...comedians who are actually funny? ...movie stars I could admire? God, I'm old.
-
...wouldn't be surprised if it's already being planned though. But it was already a remake(of a Touch of Venus if I remember right. I saw it as a kid, but I don't remember if it was good or not)>
-
Actually, Clooney's suits came from the same molds as Kilmer's. New BatSuits were being designed for B&R, until it was discovered that Georgey had comparable measurements, so they just pulled new suits from the Forever molds, with metallic blue pigments instead of black.
Actually, most of the B&R's blue sheen was added with specialized inks that were marred damn near every time it was handled, requiring constant touch-ups.
Also, JettL1993, you're not funny, stop posting. It wouldn't cost millions of dollars to replace something that could easily be recreated by simply pulling molds off of the B&R statue that came out in '97 (the source of numerous fan replicas) or simply purchasing a replica from several well-known artists.
Completely ignoring the fact that the foam latex originals are in no condition to actually be worn today without looking awful and causing considerable damage to an expensive and rare piece. -
just wondering.
-
That is all.
-
I really hope this piece of crap dies at the box office. Moore and Gielgud are rolling in their graves.
-
Brand should never have left Big Brother's Big Mouth. He is lamented.

The Scottish like to hate the English because they are bitter about being CRUSHED TO A PATHETIC PULP so many times. They are a very weak nation, as is common knowledge here in the States.
