Great Ari Gold!! Aaron Sorkin To Make Directorial Debut With THE JOHN EDWARDS STORY??

I am – Hercules!!
The “Entourage” version of Aaron Sorkin told superagent Ari Gold a while ago he wasn’t interested in directing, but the real version of Sorkin wants to direct a big-screen version of “The Politician,” the January 2010 book about former presidential candidate John Edwards written by former Edwards aide Andrew Young.
It turns out Edwards, unbeknownst to his cancer-survivor wife, conceived a kid out of wedlock around the time he was running for president! Cheeky monkey! Bum looker!
Sorkin, of course, has written screenplays about politics both fictional (“An American President,” “The West Wing”) and non-fictional (“Charlie Wilson’s War”).
His latest movie, about the founding of Facebook ("The Social Network," due Oct. 1), is based on non-fiction as well.
But the big news is Sorkin, one of the most gifted screenwriters of any generation (“A Few Good Men”!), finally found a story that made him want to fucking direct something! Maybe Steve Martin will yet do the same as well!!

I can remember the last time a story filled me with so much excitement and dread at the same time! I am about as big a Sorkin fan as you are likely to find, in fact I would probably list him as one of my ten favorite currently working film makers, but this gives me just a bit of pause. I love that he is going to push himself but there is the danger that as a first time director he may not be up to his own high standards. I would be over the moon if Tommy Schlame were directing as those two seem to have such a great partnership but hey heres hoping right?
-
right?
-
100%
-
I bet you $20 Schlamme will be on set every day.
-
Forget MacGruber, here's Forte's chance to be a star!
-
Surely you mean a Simon reference, don't you? I mean, same actor and all, but c'mon. This is teh Internet.
-
Am I to believe that there are people looking forward to this rather generic tale of predictable political shenanigans that date back to before the Romans (as in: this is not the first time this kind of thing has happened)? Really? What are we going to learn here? What else could we get out of this that we don't already know? I have an idea: get Michael Palin, Terry Jones and Eric Idle to write and direct and THEN you might have something interesting...
-
Only hire him if his eyes occasionally glow red and he sporadically shouts out at inopportune moments, "Where are you, Nazarene?!" Otherwise, get Danny Glover to play the part... he'd be perfect.
-
The guy gave off a phoney vibe whenever he walked into a room
-
(sigh) In the end, I guess it all comes down to how good they are in hiding it (or how willing we are to buy their lines).
On another note, how about them Lakers? -
Well, he's only six years older, but looks much more. He is a ringer, though. Neill is my closest celebrity look-alike, so that means I look like Edwards??!!!! D'OH!!!!!

Obama doesn't seem quite as phoney in person, nor did Kerry

Even Sarah Palin seemed like a genuine dummy, although she had CAKES of rouge on her cheeks hen i mether

If you couldn't tell Obama was a phoney in person...
by theghostwholurks
Then you ain't too bright. The guy goes to a racist church for 20 YEARS, embraces the pastor as his "spiritual mentor" and then has the gall to claim he not only didn't know his views when tapes surfaces showing what a complete race-baiter he is during his Sunday services, but to present himself as a "post-racial" President???Dude, c'mon... Obama BLEEDS "phoney" everytime he opens his mouth. Which is A LOT.
-
Rest in Peace, Mr. Ritter.
-
...and the fuse is lit.
-
but i don't buy this news. it's just to get attention for the facebook flick. i can't really believe that sorkin would do this to edwards kids when their mom is facing a horrible death like this. no way. he's not that much of an asshole.
-
do you know the difference between fantasy and reality? seriously. i don't care if you oppose the democratic party platform that Obama has been working to turn into policy, but for god's sake don't start with the nonsense about churches. i went to church my whole childhood and my pastor said crazy shit every other week. and my church was the same exact type that sarah palin went to as an adult. people go to church for the community relationships and shit. for fuck's sake. churches preach that god's gonna burn all non christians in hell to torture them forever. that's crazy ass shit to be saying from a pulpit. half the churches in this country say it. you just can't start giving people shit based on their church.
-
Can you dorks please stop with the endless "RIP" shit?????? Are you living in 1890?
-
Are you fucking serious? Who are you people?
-
Hire John Edwards the psychic as John Edwards the presidential candidate. Maybe he'll be able to predict the election and his career.
-
Whether on purpose or out of blind devotion to "the Democratic Party platform," I don't know. The point is that Obama blatantly LIED about knowing about his pastor and close friend's views to the public's face, loudly and often. Not only that, but in doing so, he attempted to distract from his OWN embracing of those views by attending Rev. Wright's church for TWO DECADES, while simultaneously offering himself up as a "post-racial" candidate who would bring the country together.THAT'S certainly worked out well, hasn't it? Obama's clearly been a phoney since he was a candidate for President. You and others simply refused to see it. And in many cases, still do.
-
That includes the new messiah, Obama.
I must admit, as a Non-American, I thought he seemed like a breath of fresh air. But the recent BP thing showed his true colours.
I'm no fan of BP. But ss a Brit, I hated the way he deliberately refers to BP as British Petroleum. They aren't called that. Haven't been for decades. They're mostly an American company.
It's pretty shameless of him to try to make it a country vs country thing. I'm a Brit, I don't give a fuck about BP. I don't earn profits from them. BUt the inference is that it's British interests versus American which is total crap.
It's purely to distract Americans from the fact that it's pretty much an American company & that while critising BP, your government continues to rely heavily on their contributions (granting them favours in return) & will continue to do so. It's all a big act. Pure political sleight of hand bullshit.
I forgot who said it, but I believe I read a quote once which said "Anyone who wants to be a politican shouldn't be allowed to be one". -
the careful considerate political analysis that you find in talkbacks. Wasn't it Winston Churchill who said the greatest argument against democracy is five minutes with the common voter? He didn't even have the internet, blogs, or radio pundits back then. On topic, I like a lot that Sorkin has done but his last two projects have kinda made me scratch my head. Maybe the Social Network will turn out to be interesting, but I'm not enthusiastic. And a movie about John Edwards? Huh. I just... got nothing. Maybe Sorkin is on an unlikeable guy kick right now, his own odd version of the antihero.

As for the movie..it's on a par with the Streep Thatcher movie.
by the dark shite
Who the fuck would want to watch either of them?
By the way, it's great how ol' ginger neck can post on here, but not have the guts to give us a Predators review. -
"his last two projects have kinda made me scratch my head." Um...you mean Studio 60 and Charlie Wilson? Because Studio 60 was underrated, and Charlie Wilson's War was fucking outstanding.
-
"The Social Network" and now this John Edwards project. Sorry I wasn't clear. I liked Studio 60 and love Charlie Wilson's War.
-
Last I checked, we live in a 2-party system. Which means, you consistently have to choose the lesser of two evils. Obama/Biden, IMHO, was the superior choice to McCain/Palin.
TheGhostWhoLurks, can you name 2-3 national politicans from the last 50 years that you've liked/respected? -
While I liked Studio 60 and Sports Night, his whole too earnest tone really sits uncomfortably on things that are more trivial. It works fantastically in the West Wing, A Few Good Men or Charlie Wilson's War, because the subject matter reflects his tone. He's dealing with matters of life and death. But when he moves to more trivial subject matter it sometimes feels as if the tone is inappropriately self-important. It just feels out of place when say on Studio 60 the writers are struggling with writer's block and yet somehow it feels like they're sitting with the Joint Chiefs of Staff deciding whether to invade Iran. But I mostly overlook it because no matter what he's one of the most skilled writers working today whether you agree with him or not.
-
Solid last post about Sorkin. I wouldn't worry about The Social Network; I've read the script and it's pretty amazing. 160 pages long and I was never bored.
-
I would pay to go see this. Looking forward to the Facebook movie too.
-
Can The Social Network already be my favorite movie? That's like a perfect trailer.
-
Sorkin's writing is soooo expository it's almost a verbal schematic for what ever "message" he's presenting.

Who would you say, currenly working, is definitively better than Sorkin?
Charlie Kaufman, Quentin Tarantino, The Coen Bros., maybe Cameron Crowe...who else is there? Bottom line, he's one of the best screenwrinters in the business and somebody who can get a movie made just by writing it. -
yet another movie about a failed American politician. just what the fucking world really wants.

At last, something truly disturbing and capable of causing long-term trauma. Yes!

It's hilarious!

on behalf of the people of ireland, i would like to apologise for that monstrosity called jedward. we are in ireland really really sorry and we are embarrased everytime they appea. aksed what they thought of cheryl cole and her illness, she landed her intensive care, jedward joked "its going to be a big funeral"..Cricket, cricket, cricket, cricket. and the people of ireland are also embarrased by Crystal swing, they were sponsored by bord failte. oh and John Edwards wife was looney tune.

kermit the frog and fozzy bear they would have won. two words summed up obama. constructed ambiguity.

I'm a big fan, but what the hell was he thinking with Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip? What a piece of shit!

A little prosthetic jowl work to put a decade or so on him and he's perfect.
-
He worked well with Sorkin's dialogue on AFGM. And if anyone can play a handsome dude with tons of charisma and a dark secret that ultimately destroys his good guy image it's Cruise.
-
If he were older would be good for this, eh?

Who's Sorkin, the grandpa from Lil sunshine or guy who's Gollum?
by tikidonkeypunch
-
........?
-
...I thought Jeremy Piven was going to be playing Crossing Over's John Edward.
-
And it could also get him that second Oscar nom, if he even cares about such things (I get the feeling Cruise does not). But I agree, he could really bring something real to this. Great suggestion. Tho, as your handle implies, I think its a pretty serious Outside Chance of that happening.
-
...this is a clusterfuck epic proportions. Apparently, contrary to her public image, even Elisabeth is a raving insane bitch.
At one point, it looked as though Edwards might win the Democratic primary, and his aides (who knew all about the shit behind the scenes) were considering going public and exposing him for for fear of him winning.
Craziness. -

DarkShite... I love when people start shitting on Obama
by scarywaitress
over the BP thing. Like there was an easy, quick solution, and he just didn't use it. Ever notice how EVERYONE seems to know what that quick solution was, too? And how everyone's is different? Being a Brit doesn't give you a corner on the "understanding politics" market, friend. This is a big country. We have lots of problems that aren't easily answered. Obama bet that the company that STARTED the problem was best equipped to FIX the problem. He also understands that there IS NO quick fix for this. AND, you have to remember, he inherited a mess of oil companies operating regulation-free in this coyuntry, caused by the PREVIOUS administration. He's only been in office a year and a half, and has already accomplished health care reform, legislation the likes of which no other president was able to get done since Social Security was passed. So, shit on him all you want from your teeny little island. You're certainly entitled to your wrong-ass opinions.
-
The man fathered a child out wedlock, was made public, and still won...in 1885! And he looks just like Bill Murray.
-
I think Obama knew about the racist shit... I also think he was never an avid churchgoer, and thought that there was no way this guy would be dumb enough to spout any of his old-man-crazy-shit on the national stage. I think he made a mistake, but it was a personal one. We ALL know a racist old person... as Obama said, we don't just cut them off over that uncomfortable subject. Anyone who thinks that, because he tried to stand by the guy when the media went after him, that OBAMA HIMSELF believes that shit, is a simpleton. Lots of people ran right out and bought guns at the idea of a liberal black president being elected. Their excuse was "He's gone take all our guns away, we gots to git some right quick 'fore we c'ain't no mo." Well, guess what, morons... the only gun legislation he's gotten involved in was to sign a law MAKING IT LEGAL TO CARRY GUNS IN FEDERAL PARKS. Look it up. A PRO-GUN LAW. Good grief, people like you make me tired.
-
I cannot think of a movie I would like to see LESS. Maybe one about a serial kitten killer.
-
about politicians that have failed as positive role models, create a film that brings a positive politician into the presidency and does some good.
I know it would be a fictional tale, but it's better than the reality. -
I can't wait for the scene where he breaks his leg on stage while dancing to the theme from ghostbusters.
-
i do think BP was dragging their feet on fixing the problem though. the more they stalled, the current administration looked worse for not fixing the problem. this in turn they hoped the GOP would get elected and back to the old ways..fuck that. if it wasnt for the previous admin we wouldnt be in the predicament in the first place.
-
make edwards a cannibal or something..or when he ran against a dead man in a senatorial election--he LOST!!that would be funny.
-
any movie with charles grodin makes me grin..even BEETHOVEN...yeah..that just happened..ill pack my things before you shun me away.
-
shunning not applicable.
-
because they have been allowed to operate with no regulations decreeing that they have a backup plan for this kind of emergency. They weren't dragging their feet, they were sitting there with their thumbs up their asses and stupid looks on their stupid faces. Unfortunately, the simple fact is that nothing was going to change until a disaster of this magnitude happened. Try to put regulations in place, and everyone bitches. BP bitches because it costs them money. Local workers bitch because "it affects their livelihood." Until people have the worst-case scenario right in front of their faces, EVERYONE wants to make that extra buck. Obama also had THAT stupidity to deal with.
-
1. I don't live in a teeny little island.
2. I'm not "shitting on Obama". Unlike you, I actually have no preferenece or bias, for or against him. I simply pointed out that he's exactly the same as any other politician. He wasn't lying, per se, but to say "British Petroleum" over & over, is very manipulative & deliberately misleading, when it isn't called that & isn't a British company.
It's pure deflection, like a normal person saying "Look! A flying chimp!", then doing something bad when people turn away to look.
Oh & I never once said being British gave me a "corner on the "understanding politics" market". That's your assumption. It actually sounds like you expect me to be more informed than you & feel so threatened that you have to attack my knowledge. I actually no little of politics & don't care about it.
I just dislike that specific thing he did. I find it offensive that he tried to use us as a cover for an American company. Like "Use the term British a lot, people will think it's a British thing & get off our backs".
You obviously like Obama, which is why you're making an argument that doesn't exist. That's fine. I don't give a fuck about him either way. He doesn't mean anything to me, positive or negative. I just stated the facts of the manipulation he tried to pull (to his own people, btw, not mine. YOU'RE the ones he thought were dumb enough to think BP is British). Maybe you are if you have such blind faith as you. He isn't Jesus. He's a very6 naughty boy. -
people on the coast right now..they dont like what hes doing..as you say with the gun control issue..obama is "fucking with their lives" and these little people feel threatened.these people are afraid theya re gonna go broke because of this moratorium and regulations..but theyd rather drink their sweet tea with quaker state than have these regulations..its one or the other..safety regualtions so your kids can play at the beach (at the very least) or after you go swimming in the gulf, you can look like ARMUS from star trek:TNG.
-
Not "No". But I don't care. Reading your post to me, it totally ignored my point & talked about other things entirely, YET accused me of "shitting" on someone I don't even give a fuck about.
If you just want to be pro-Obama to someone, or just wanna have an argument for argument's sake, you should probably find someone Anti-Obama & do it wit him or her.
All I did was mention something that he did & that was really a very manipulative & rotten thing to do. My problem is specific to that, because I don't see why I should take the blame for shit some multi-national, American owned company did, just so he can keep big business happy. That's all. -
30 something years ago or something. You know, when it WAS British.
But they haven't called it that for years. Because it isn't British. It's almost entirely American, hence they NEVER call it British Petroleum. Why would a bunch of American billionaires put so much money into something & let it be called British, afterall? -
Please enlighten me. While it has holdings here in the US, it is still a British-run company. NO ONE thinks this is a British plot to destroy the US... you're being ridiculous. You say you don't care... which is bullshit. You obviously have an axe to grind here... and what I AM expecting is if you're going to come out and spout off, that you be prepared to back your shit up. The "every politician is a crook" line is tired and simplistic.
-
the rig was a local rig contracted by BP. they do this cause its easier and cheaper. but BP is in charge..they are the boss. the buck stops with them.ill make it easy for you..lets say you worked at your job and you were minding your own business and doing your thang..correctly and efficiently. but the company you work for didnt check the fire alarms and sprinklers systems cause hey, its cheaper and easier not to get them check on an annual month.your place burns down and you die. is that your fault? or your bosses?
-
oil companies and such change their names all the time with buyouts ands mergers..i should know i work for one.so if they still go by the name BP, then it is BP on the account books..KFC still is kentucky fried chicken.
-
It aint anything cool...
WHO GIVES A SHIT????
Fuck that loser. -
That's all. & it worked. YOu say that stuff, but I've even seen people posting on this site, talking/having a debate with Brits & they've came out with anti-British BP stuff. Right here on a movie site.
So it's obviously made some people think it's a British thing. I just find it crass. I've got nothing against Obama. If I was American, I would have voted for him. BUT as a Brit (supposedly your closest ally), I think it's unfair. -
as British Petroleum, it's REGISTERED as BP. From Wikipedia: "Before January 1999 the company was registered as the British Petroleum Company PLC. In January 1999 following a merger the company took on the Amoco name. They retained the name BP Amoco, until April 2000. The transition to the BP PLC name was managed by BPs advertising agency: Ogilvy & Mather and PR Consultants: Ogilvy PR. The change of name culminated in BPs new logo and re-branding, in the first quarter of 2001." However, this only adds to my mirth over your posts. So POLITICIANS are all lying bastards, but a billion-dollar company that renames itself for the sake of a PR image overhaul is OK? And, taking the "British" out of the name makes the fact that it's CEO was LORD Brown until 2008 a non-issue I guess.. he just HAPPENS to be British... This is too funny. Really.
-
is a grade-A, first class moron. This is a business... a billions-dollar business. This is big money over the needs of a few poor southern American workers, families, and communities that MIGHT be suffering because they cut corners. Corners which their OWN GOVERNMENT allowed to be cut. However, anyone blaming Obama for this is a simpleton. Period.
-
why should he be blamed for this mess..the lack of regulations is his fault??the man can do so much..he wouldve gone down there himself to fix the oil leak but he can ONLY walk on water.he couldve called his superfriends to fix it..maybe aquaman.seriously this is all because of the previous administration. hes being a better person than i would have. i wouldve gone on tv and kicked my feet up in the oval office and said, you fuckers in the south wanted this..drill baby drill? drill this motherfucker! obama out!
-
If you took the time to read my posts, (instead of automatically jumping to the defence of Obama, as if he's being attacked), you would have seen that I said "I'm no fan of BP". I actually care about that kind of shit. I hate big business & what they do, just as much as I have a mistrust of politicans. I just think he was trying to deflect blame & that's how I see it. Nothing more, nothing less. I couldn't give a fuck if it was Obama or anyone else. I DO think all policians are crooks. I've yet to see one who wasn't. I thought Blair was a good man, but look how that turned out.
-
sure, why not call them BP? but everyone knows what it really stands for and by taking BRITISH out of the name, they make themselves GLOBAL. 'come, be our friends. we are part of mother earth, not just little england'
-
One of the big reasons people are pissed at him is he ISN'T doing the bullshit grandstanding that people want him to do. He's a thinker. He's calm, he's rational. And in the end, he gets what he wants. HIS approach led to BP providing $20 BILLION dedicated to cleanup and reparations... WAY more than the $3 billion dollar "cap"... and WAY more than they would have given if Obama had been a grandstanding jackass. I could not be happier about the president we have. It's nice to have a real grown-up in the Oval Office.
-
I'm not blaming Obama for BP's fuck up. That's their doing. I found the handling of it to be offensive that's all. It came across as a national "Us & Them" thing. "It's not our fault, blame the Brits". I really don't find fault with Obama generally.
But I don't see what a bunch of caviar swilling rich men has to do with me or my country & I'm tired of seeing people blame us over a politicans words. Even if they are fuckwits.
On a side note, the majority of people in the world are fuckwits, so presumably that's a hell of a lot of people who think I must go around on weekends, throwing oil on baby seagulls & cackling. -
but WHY should he accept blame for this??hes not deflecting anything, hes calling out the people who are to blame. i would also, if i were obama, tell every american to open up their history books and read the last chapter twice...the one that starts in 2001. this is the previous admins fault. and they made money off all the shit thats going down.
-
Just more "Obama is an ass for blaming the British" (which he's not doing) along with your cursory "I'm no fan of BP." Whatever. You're throwing out your opinions because you feel the British are being attacked. You're no better than any other provincial soul who feels his people aren't being given their due... and, in this case, just feeding the fire. You're buying into the soundbites. Well, fine. Enjoy. But don't try to tell anyone that's not what you're doing. OF COURSE you care... why else post? If you have a right to take exception to anti-Brit sentiment, spouted by soundbite-eaters from this side of the pond, then I have every right to take exception to the idea that Obama is trying to deflect blame directed towards his administration by taking potshots at your country.
-
hes not attacking your country..just the company thats stationed there..BP.had the enron thing gone done today, he would do the same thing..call out the company. not the nation.
-
and his cohorts made off of the regulations they helped to destroy should be sued, and all of that money should go to the people along the Gulf Coast. That is a naive, simplistic wish, but it's what SHOULD happen.
-
I made my one point. That's all I had to say about Obama. I don't dislike him. Admittedly, the "British" thing disappointed me. But that's because he deals with those guys all the time. It doesn't matter which Administration is in power. They're all in the pockets of big business & the businesses are in their's, so he knows they aren't called that.
Now, maybe, just maybe my inherent mistrust of politicans means I automatically think negatively, but I did get the impression he was distancing himself by using the word British.
Six Demon Bag, I don'T thinkhe should accept blame for it. He didn't do it. But neither did British Petroleum, because they don't exist.
Anyway, I really did only give one mention to this. If it seems like I'm really bothered & have an axe to grind, that's mainly because you guys replied, so I'm still talking about it. I only intended to make one post on my opinion that politicans are all the same & the BP thing was just the most recent example I could think of. -
That's the height of silliness. Just like American companies go around the world causing harm, most people don't blame the Americans themselves. Personally, I hadn't heard Barry call BP "British Petroleum" but at some moment amongst many he must've. Still I don't think he's deflecting blame on another country. Clearly he puts the blame on the company itself. It doesn't help England's cause that the CEO is a Brit though.
That said, I put a shitload of blame on Obama himself for the response. A disaster of this magnitude should have been met with unprecedented Federal control and an army of engineers to tackle the spill. That he was hands-off for the most part is inexcusable. I no longer trust Barry, and I was one of his biggest cheerleaders. God forbid we have another terrorist attack. He wouldn't be stupid enough to launch preemptive wars on innocent nations, but his recovery response would be no better than Bush's that's for sure.
-
Tony Hayward is the British "fall guy" (he isn't even admitting guilt or responsibility) for those evil fucks at Haliburton. How these cock smokers at Haliburton side stepped this shit is beyond me.
-
im telling you BP and BRITISH PETROLEUM are one and the same. the same shareholders, the same way they do business. nothing has changed on the way they do business. they only thing that HAS changed is their letterhead.
-
to kill your positive view of Obama, then you weren't really a supporter anyway. That is ridiculous. All the legislation he's working on, all he's accomplished in his first year and a half of office? THIS kills your support? Again... simplistic. Not realistic. And, also, in my opinion, misguided. He got what's really important... he got a SHITLOAD of money for the victims, a shitload more than a grandstanding Bush-type would have. Everyone seems to forget about that.

YOU HAVE TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR WORLD CUP FAIL THOUGH
by bringingsexyback
I was looking forward to seeing Becks play. Instead I saw him on the sidelines - looking very dapper, sure, but I wanted to see him bend the ball.
-
Instead of 3 lions, they're gonna have 1000 tampons.
Apparently it's to commemorate the worst period in English football. -
I mean, the US team was doing REALLY well... for a US team. No one thought they were going much farther than they did. If blame needs to be laid there, Italy and France should be horsewhipped for their pathetic antics. What a horrific display, from both of them.
-
as ESS said..you wanted to say your one post..your one SOUNDBITE. and not back it up. im sorry we called you out on it. but i think youre full of shit.you say you dont care, yet you comment. which would make you a liar.if you do care. then be more informend next time and try not to snipe. if yo are inclined to snipe, at least back it up with some fact.
-
Misstep? Are you kidding me? The greatest environmental disaster in modern American history is not a misstep. There's oil EVERYWHERE. You don't let BP fix the problem when it's clear they have no solution. You call in every engineer with expertise in the field and use Federal authority to address it. He did not.
And where is this shitload of money? There's a fund set up with a huge bureaucracy to cut through to get paid. People's livelihoods continue to erode, the environment continues to sustain damage and there is no restitution that is fair, given.
He did better than Bush. But that's far from good enough. -
to prostitute himself, and to put his wife closer to Hollywood. He's still yours, Darkie.
-
...to fix the fuckup. The federal government has nothing that can even remotely tackle something like that oil leak. There is no Underwater Delta Force that should have been deployed and wasn't.
That needs to change, apparently, but the way things have been set up for years, only the oil companies that caused the problem have the wherewithal to fix their own mistakes...it's scary.
Yeah, it would have felt good to see Obama throw his weight around, but I think that in the long run he got the best solution possible. Sometimes it's frustrating, but the guy's a realist. -
Especially since they got fucked by that douche ref. The entire team poured their souls into every game. I'm damned proud of them, every one.
-
long time no see.anyway, id rather have a president who think rationally before making HIS decisions and get it right. rather than bush who instinctively reacted wrongly after having his decisions made for him.
-

in the PR department. No matter what anyone would have you believe, once this disaster happened, no amount of kicking ass and bitching on the international level was going to fix this faster. The logistics involved in fixing a leak of this kind are ENORMOUS. The fact that BP did not have a contingency plan in place is due to the lack of regulation form PREVIOUS administrations. NOTHING OBAMA COULD HAVE DONE would have made any of this happen any faster... even if it would have made him look better. ALL HE COULD HAVE DONE is made himself look better... which doesn't seem to be high on his list of priorities. Getting money out of BP? MUCH higher on the list. OF COURSE people's lives are going to suffer. That was unavoidable the secong the leak started. He's doing his best to lessen the pain, but he can't fix it in any way other than over the long-term. The economy of those states may not recover for generations. That is the reality... and the blame for that is not at Obama's feet.

I was being polite. My point was merely an example that they all lie & they all mislead. That's my honest opinion & I gave it.
I replied & continued talking about it, purely out of politeness to you lot & respecting the fact that people responded to me directly by name (or fake name or whatever). But If you want to get nasty & call me ful of shit, then I don't really don't need to be polite & talk about something I honestly don't care about, other than as an example to back up my opinion of politicans. Frankly, I gave my opinion. Don't say I'm full of shit. It's late here, I'm having a drink & trying to unwind after a hard day's work. I don't need to reply but I did & did it honestly. -
im gonna ask you to be my mommy and yer gonna say yes.ess, will you be my mommy?
-
Yeah, but in this case you need a man of authority and action. It's a no-brainer to take charge of the spill. We're not talking a tanker here. We're talking about an endless gush straight out of the Earth. It's ridiculous. I know he's now taking some actions, such as issuing new moratoriums and shit, but the first days of the disaster are most critical. This could've been capped a long time ago. The disaster should have been mitigated. It doesn't take weeks to decide to deploy engineers to the site and formulate solutions. Simply put, he let BP handle it and it was dumb. I don't envy Barry's position and yes, he is tasked with monumental problems time and again. But he signed up for the job and he's gotta take the heat.
-
He's good British people.
-
But now I want him to run for President.
-
but that opinion is tired and if you cant back it up (which you halfassedly tried to) then its ignorant.im being polite too, but i dont appreciate you calling the man i voted for and will vote for again crooked. any good man elected into this mess after the last 8 years is gonna have a hell of a time winning people over, definelty when it seems a section of the country is plnating their feet in the sand to stall progress.enjoy your evening and drink chap
-
these greedy fucks just explored every single muther fucking avenue to make sure that there was no other that they could continue to draw the sweet sweet oil out of this thing. "Oh...top kill didn't work so I guess we will try Bottom Kill."See..they have names for these procedures. They knew what they were doing the whole time. Fuck these people.
-
I'm just having a debate, and I thank the honorable DarkShite for continuing in a civil and respectful manner. And, re:"This could've been capped a long time ago." This is 10000% incorrect. The depth of the leak, the temperature of the water... the logistics of this problem are INSANELY difficult. You think BP wants this on their heads? You think they didn't want to fix this faster than anyone? They didn't cap it sooner because THEY COULD NOT. They HAD no plan for if this happened. They had to figure it out on the spot... as would any government-hired engineers have had to do. Believing otherwise is buying into the anti-Obama soundbites.
-
New name.
-
unless the occasion calls for it.
-
but if BP did stall because they were coerced by friends in the GOP who are having a field day with this. "stall a week and when we get elected next term, we will cut even more regulations so we can make even more money""fuck, it why not?"
-
I think they're all crooks. That's my way. You might disagree, but then if you'd asked me about Blair maybe 10 yrs ago, I would have defended him.
I lost a LOT of faith in politicians because of him. I had the kind of belief in him that you have in Obama. Then he teamed up with that wanker Bush. So, I look out for the slipping facades. But surely it's good to be vigilant?
& I know I defended my opinion in a half arsed way. Again, that's because I truly, honestly don't really care about it much. If I was passionate about it, I might have more to say, but I was merely in a position where I had to defend my post, when my mention of the whole shitty BP situation was just to show my disdain for all politicians.
IN hidsight I should have stuck to Edwards & how nobody even bats an eyelid when they hear about what he did, because people almost expect it. Oh well! Cheers! Bottoms up. Down the hatch & all that. I'll stop the politics & just chime in on anything fun or interesting. Otherwise I'll get drunk & start calling people "cocknose" :-).
-
...that's frightening...and all too plausible.
-
I'm just saying it's unlikely... and, I don't think they're quite that long-sighted. I think every minute CNN has a live feed of the oil leak gushing out into the gulf, BP execs are losing another 3% of their hair and aging an extra year. They are watching their money go away in a hurry. What I DO believe is that the GOP could not be happier about this disaster. The more people suffer, the happier they are... because that's how the GOP operates. Off of fear, and misery. They are a cancer on our country, feeding off of ignorance and fear and knee-jerk reactions. I worry VERY much that this will work against Obama in the next election. His rational approach may not be enough. He's going to have to start listening to Rahm Emmanuel, eventually, I fear.
-
money makes the world go round with these companies. and any way to make an extra buck they will go for, be it cutting regulations or slacking off in cleanup efforts.
-
Quote: "This could've been capped a long time ago."How? One of the things that's been widely under-reported is just how many engineers were actually brought in to address that problem. Oil industry guys from nearly every other major oil company - not to mention scientists and engineers from other fields that were brought in to help think outside-the-box.Don't get me wrong; I think there is more than Obama could have done to mitigate control in the early weeks. But we now know that there wasn't a device, system, or legitimate response plan in place that could have capped the well. (And there ain't enough boom in the world to contain the gusher.)Even now, with the well-head apparently sealed, we don't know if the other kill methods caused further damage to the well-bore and whether new ruptures will occur along the sea floor due to the back-up in pressure. I just hope the relief well is effective in killing this thing altogether. The alternative is incredibly frightening.
-
so guy ahead a drag him further in the mud Sorkin, but I'd love to see a Sarah Palin biopic. That would be batshit insanity!
-
...there has been a lot of very exciting talk about privatizing the space program. Sounds great, but this BP disaster is a good lesson in what not to do.
BP was allowed to push into unsafe waters, literally, in search of profit. When disaster struck, there was no effective backup plan...and no one, not even the federal government had the resources to step in, be an adult, and fix the problem.
A privatized space program could lead to all sorts of good things, but let the current clusterfuck be a warning. -

That said, I'm still none too happy with Barry right now.
-
I hear ya. I voted for him as well...and, for the most part, I still support him even though I see the tide of crisis (plural) looming ever larger. But he ran for the office, so...
-
...I just think, "Well we still gotta get that precious precious oil."I don't believe one thing these fucks say.
-
...at that. Or maybe a pool player. Sometimes you want to see him get fired up...but he's just sitting there...counting cards, working the angles...
-
i can see him hustling to WEREWOLVES OF LONDON, taking the chumps cash.
-
I understand your frustration but there is no way they could have capped the well in two days. Sure, I suppose the "salvaging" of the well was/is of interest but the kill methods they tried were the only ones available at the time. There is no financial insentive for them to allow a gusher of that magnitude to continue. And if BP is somehow able and allowed to continue drawing oil from that resevoir after the hoped success of the relief well, then every dollar they make should go immediately into that escrow account. They can mainline the cash directly from the site of their own folly.
-
Yeah, the coolness of his rope-a-dope "poker style" can be vexing. It certainly seems to frustrate the more far-left elements of his party/supporters with regards to certain issues.

Peter Fernandez, best known as the title character's voice in the animated "Speed Racer" TV series, died Thursday from lung cancer at age 83, Anime News Network reported.
Fernandez not only voiced Speed himself, but also his brother Racer X and several other characters in the English-dubbed adaptation of Tatsunoko's "Mach Go Go Go" anime series, the Internet site said. He also directed the voice cast and even wrote the lyrics to the signature theme song used in the show imported from Japan in 1967. He later played Lupin III, Daisuke Jigen, and President Jimmy Carter in a dubbed version of "Lupin III: The Secret of Mamo."
His voice can be heard in such dubbed anime titles as "Astro Boy," "Gigantor," "Marine Boy," "Star Blazers: The Bolar Wars," and "Superbook." He made a cameo appearance as an announcer in the 2008 live-action "Speed Racer" film, Anime News Network said.
Corinne Orr, the actress who played Speed Racer's romantic interest Trixie and younger brother Sprittle Racer, spoke with Fernandez as recently as last week, the Anime News Network said. The two had worked together on 200 productions, and she noted that he was a big star on radio and Broadway and had starred in the 1949 film "City Across the River" where Tony Curtis only had a bit part."
Orr is the last surviving member of the "Speed Racer" main cast.
Orr told the Web site, "His great joy was doing all these conventions and receiving the acknowledgement and accolades from all his fans at the end of his life."
Producer and anime distributor William Winckler told Anime News Network that he was glad that renewed interest accompanying the 2008 live-action Speed Racer film, Fernandez "finally got the attention and respect he deserved from the general public and mainstream press." -
He previously said that, after completing the first draft of 'The Social Network', Sony chief Amy Pascal told him they only had one director in mind to offer to direct it. If that person passed, she told him he could direct it. That person, David Fincher, obviously didn't pass.

I see your point, but we're talking about a sea of mediocrity. Movies aren't written so much as they are "story boarded". Anyway those writers you pointed out are pretty the best in the business and then there is a huge abyss and then there's Sorkin. I'm not trying to be am Asshole but you have to admit Sorkins writing is a bit "instructional".
-
I dunno. I love Steve, he's one of my three heroes/influences, but some of his creative decisions lately have left me cold. From his bizarrely botched adaptation of Shopgirl (it's your own goddam story, how do you screw that up???) to his repeated failed attempts to breathe new life into Pink Panther (Sellers or nothing, Steve, I'm sorry), I have mixed feelings about him at the moment.
