A Sweet Piece Of Promo Art For Frank Darabont’s AMC Zombie Series THE WALKING DEAD!!

I am – Hercules!! Is there another new fall series we’re looking forward to as much as “The Walking Dead,” the new AMC Zombie drama from “Mist” writer-director Frank Darabont? I’m thinking no way. The series stars “Mist” vets Jeffrey DeMunn and Laurie Holden as the couple at far right, Andrew Lincoln as lawman Rick, brunette Sarah Wayne Callies as wife Lori, Chandler Riggs as son Carl, Jon Bernthal as Shotgun Shane, Steven Yeun as Glenn and Emma Bell as Amy the Star-Spangled College Girl. The six-episode first season launches in October.

I had to kill Canidate_Michael because he made a mistake...

    by DickJones

Seriously people who post "1ST ZOMG" should be perma-banned. On a related note, while I am looking forward to this, I'd hardly call 6 episodes a season.

  • July 15, 2010, 6:28 p.m. CST

Love that this starts in October.

    by SoylentMean

October is my favorite month of the year, ending with my favorite holiday. This is just one more celebration in my 31 days of celebrating any and all things (ok, MOST things) Horror.
Who knows, maybe this could be the start of a trend of seeing quality Horror shows hitting the boob tube again. Right now I can think of only one good Horror tv show. Supernatural.

  • July 15, 2010, 6:32 p.m. CST

Dick, 6 episodes is pretty standard in Britain.

    by SoylentMean

So I've heard. Besides, they're taking a big fuckin' gamble that people will watch. AMC has quality on its side, in precedence (Mad Men, Breaking Bad) and in it's overall production (ie. Darabont, KNB).
The odds are in favor of this gnawing the shit outta our collective brains.

    by Cinemanimetal

Anyone else notice the Science Dog T-Shirt that the kid is wearing? Awesome reference to Kirkman's other comic Invincible!

Breaking Bad also had a six episode first season

    by oneblood

  • July 15, 2010, 7:31 p.m. CST

So is Darabont directing all 6 episodes?

    by Tall_Boy66

And how long are the episodes - 60 min? It'd be crazy if he has to crank all of them out, like the length of 3 movies, in 3 months. That's pretty hardcore.

  • July 15, 2010, 7:40 p.m. CST

    High Hopes!!

    by Arcangel2020

Wow, everything I read and seen here on AICN.com looks good! I have high hopes that this series is going to be excellent and that Mr. Darabont will not let US...Zombie fans..down! Keeping fingers, toes and eyes crossed that we are all going to be happy come October!

  • July 15, 2010, 7:47 p.m. CST

Darabont wrote and directed the first episode

    by Hercules

If I remember correctly, that's all he's directing for season one, but he's heavily involved with the scripting throughout.

    Herc

    by Symposium

What would be great is if he directed all 6 episodes. Then for season 2 (lets keep the 6 episode theme) they get David Fincher in. Season 3 could have Christopher Nolan. A bit like the Masters of Horror but better. I can dream.

  • July 15, 2010, 7:54 p.m. CST

I'm really looking forward to this...

    by veritasses

but I could do without that promo art.

I've said it before and I'll say it again ...

    by Toe Jam

If the series has even a quarter of the balls of the comic -- especially when it comes to all the (MINOR SPOILER) deaths -- we're in for a real treat.

    Can't wait!

    by NeverTalksBack

So how is AMC with releasing their shows online, do they post on hulu? Cause I'm too poor to have cable and I need to see this show BAD! I'm more than halfway through the comics and it just gets better & better

  • July 16, 2010, 7:34 a.m. CST

If frank skips out on directing the brunt of the prison

    by TheJudger

the botched suicide- dad wraps it up, the town stuff with the govener, the hand chop the 2 attack on the prision with the most heartbreaking deaths of the series. I will be very bummed. After the helicopter crashes up until the end of the second attack. It has to be frank. thats the best stuff of the series. I wonder how well they will shot the big death and the hand chop scene. That hand chop has to be one of those hand is cut off in frame it rests on the table or falls on the ground we cut to you know who looking at it in a in a blank stare. Oh man and that hand is just the begining and what about the heads, and Michonne!!!! I hope her walking buds look just like they do in the comic lower jaws removed, no arms, chained like dogs to Michonne. This tv series if it can stay true to the comic and hold nothing back. It will be huge!!!!

  • July 16, 2010, 7:37 a.m. CST

They aint filming no more here

    by TheJudger

    Breaking Bad

    by emteem

Not that it's really important to The Walking Dead discussion, but Breaking Bad had a seven episode first season. It was supposed to be a nine episode first season, but got cut by two episodes when the writer's strike happened.

  • July 16, 2010, 9:13 a.m. CST

Well, now I know one of them loses an arm.

    by Chadley BeBay

Not bad...but nothing I haven't seen in a billion zombie movies/books/ etc... Tell me what is so interesting and unique about this?? (And don't say 'the human angle' because thats been done too).

  • July 16, 2010, 12:45 p.m. CST

    Tyrese and Michonne

    by parissun

They are both an important part of this story and play major roles in the most interesting portion of TWD so far. That's the prison series. Hell, most of the people in this pic are dead anyway at this point. So I figure there will be a cast mix up at some point. If they leave out Tyrese and Michonn in this series then they are fucking stupid.

  • July 16, 2010, 2:56 p.m. CST

if that's what passes for art no wonder I can't get a job.

Re: Breaking Bad's 1st season... WGA strike made it short

    by Prof. Pop-Cult

It was originally commissioned to have a 13 episode first season, but had to be cut short due to the strike.

  • July 16, 2010, 3:37 p.m. CST

1st season covers the comic events up to the prison

    by Prof. Pop-Cult

That's what I was told by a friend who has been working crew for the production in Atlanta. If this gets a second season, then we can presume that the entire season may cover the prison arc up to its end. (So if this is the pattern the series will follow, then that means the comic book is in the midst of what would be the series version's third season.)

  • July 16, 2010, 3:37 p.m. CST

    I wonder how they'll handle Tyrese's fate

    by seagrass

assuming the series makes it that far (hopefully!!) They really nailed the casting for Glen and Andrea, which makes me happy.

  • July 16, 2010, 3:42 p.m. CST

    Sorry, Tyreese

    by seagrass

Didn't press the 'e' hard enough. I'm sure they'll bring him in by the 3rd or 4th episode, as they didn't meet him until they left Atlanta. Also, Kirkman has stated that "well, frankly ... nobody lives forever in this book." Which probably means that Rick's living on borrowed time. Gonna be a shame to see him go.

  • July 16, 2010, 3:46 p.m. CST

Also, for those who don't have time to read the books

    by seagrass

or just have no interest at all (lame), you can get caught up and spoiled right here (remove any spaces, obviously): http://walkingdead.wikia.com/wiki/The_Walking_Dead_Wiki

  • July 16, 2010, 4:55 p.m. CST

    You'd think they'd learn, but no ...

    by The StarWolf

Much as I detested the terrible 28 DAYS LATER, it was the only film that managed to get one very important thing right: if you're going to go out into a world filled with undead things which can kill you with one bite, heck, one scratch, you're damn well going to break into the nearest cop shop and come out wearing a full set of riot gear. Let's see them bite through THAT! None of this short-sleeved shirt nonsense, thank you. Failing that, some heavy biker leathers and welders' gloves. Heck, make your set of chain mail come to that.

  • July 16, 2010, 4:57 p.m. CST

    StarWolf

    by malificus

Good point and in fact early in the series, the first few issues actually, a character does get ahold of some police riot gear and uses them to great effect.

  • July 16, 2010, 10:03 p.m. CST

This is looking better and better

    by Nasty In The Pasty

I just wonder if it'll be as relentlessly brutal as the comics have been.

  • July 16, 2010, 10:34 p.m. CST

Maybe you shouldn't post comic covers in these articles

    by killamajig

Seing as that one for example, has like 2 spoilers in it, one major. Asuming they get that far and go there.

  • July 17, 2010, 3:42 a.m. CST

    About the comic cover posted

    by NeverTalksBack

Herc didn't spoil anything with that cover, others did by talking about it. If you're not a fan of the comic you wouldn't know who's who. Just sayin
