A Sweet Piece Of Promo Art For Frank Darabont’s AMC Zombie Series THE WALKING DEAD!!

Published at:  Jul 15, 2010 6:40:59 PM CDT

I am – Hercules!!

Is there another new fall series we’re looking forward to as much as “The Walking Dead,” the new AMC Zombie drama from “Mist” writer-director Frank Darabont? I’m thinking no way.

The series stars “Mist” vets Jeffrey DeMunn and Laurie Holden as the couple at far right, Andrew Lincoln as lawman Rick, brunette Sarah Wayne Callies as wife Lori, Chandler Riggs as son Carl, Jon Bernthal as Shotgun Shane, Steven Yeun as Glenn and Emma Bell as Amy the Star-Spangled College Girl.

The six-episode first season launches in October.

On a related note, while I am looking forward to this, I'd hardly call 6 episodes a season.

Love that this starts in October.

    by soylentmean

October is my favorite month of the year, ending with my favorite holiday. This is just one more celebration in my 31 days of celebrating any and all things (ok, MOST things) Horror.

Who knows, maybe this could be the start of a trend of seeing quality Horror shows hitting the boob tube again. Right now I can think of only one good Horror tv show. Supernatural.

Dick, 6 episodes is pretty standard in Britain.

    by soylentmean

So I've heard. Besides, they're taking a big fuckin' gamble that people will watch. AMC has quality on its side, in precedence (Mad Men, Breaking Bad) and in it's overall production (ie. Darabont, KNB).

The odds are in favor of this gnawing the shit outta our collective brains.

So is Darabont directing all 6 episodes?

    by tall_boy66

And how long are the episodes - 60 min? It'd be crazy if he has to crank all of them out, like the length of 3 movies, in 3 months. That's pretty hardcore.

If I remember correctly, that's all he's directing for season one, but he's heavily involved with the scripting throughout.

What would be great is if he directed all 6 episodes. Then for season 2 (lets keep the 6 episode theme) they get David Fincher in. Season 3 could have Christopher Nolan. A bit like the Masters of Horror but better.

    I can dream.

If frank skips out on directing the brunt of the prison

    by thejudger

the botched suicide- dad wraps it up, the town stuff with the govener, the hand chop the 2 attack on the prision with the most heartbreaking deaths of the series. I will be very bummed. After the helicopter crashes up until the end of the second attack. It has to be frank. thats the best stuff of the series. I wonder how well they will shot the big death and the hand chop scene. That hand chop has to be one of those hand is cut off in frame it rests on the table or falls on the ground we cut to you know who looking at it in a in a blank stare. Oh man and that hand is just the begining and what about the heads, and Michonne!!!! I hope her walking buds look just like they do in the comic lower jaws removed, no arms, chained like dogs to Michonne. This tv series if it can stay true to the comic and hold nothing back. It will be huge!!!!

    by em_tee_em

Not that it's really important to The Walking Dead discussion, but Breaking Bad had a seven episode first season. It was supposed to be a nine episode first season, but got cut by two episodes when the writer's strike happened.

Herc, you really should use a different comic cover

    by prestigeworldwide

The one you used has a pretty big spoiler on it. At the very least, you might want to cover up Rick's hand of put a spoiler alert before the jump. Still, the cast looks good, and I can't wait for this show, which is the one I'm most looking forward too this fall. I just hope it turns out to be a big success, and the next season will get at least 13 episodes.

    Tyrese and Michonne

    by parissun

They are both an important part of this story and play major roles in the most interesting portion of TWD so far. That's the prison series. Hell, most of the people in this pic are dead anyway at this point. So I figure there will be a cast mix up at some point. If they leave out Tyrese and Michonn in this series then they are fucking stupid.

1st season covers the comic events up to the prison

    by prof. pop-cult

That's what I was told by a friend who has been working crew for the production in Atlanta. If this gets a second season, then we can presume that the entire season may cover the prison arc up to its end. (So if this is the pattern the series will follow, then that means the comic book is in the midst of what would be the series version's third season.)

    by seagrass

Didn't press the 'e' hard enough. I'm sure they'll bring him in by the 3rd or 4th episode, as they didn't meet him until they left Atlanta. Also, Kirkman has stated that "well, frankly ... nobody lives forever in this book." Which probably means that Rick's living on borrowed time. Gonna be a shame to see him go.

    by the starwolf

Much as I detested the terrible 28 DAYS LATER, it was the only film that managed to get one very important thing right: if you're going to go out into a world filled with undead things which can kill you with one bite, heck, one scratch, you're damn well going to break into the nearest cop shop and come out wearing a full set of riot gear. Let's see them bite through THAT! None of this short-sleeved shirt nonsense, thank you. Failing that, some heavy biker leathers and welders' gloves. Heck, make your set of chain mail come to that.
