Today’s Joker is old school in the Behind the Scenes Pic of the Day!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes pic!
I have one more clown picture to throw at you, but this is the last Joker. How could I feature Heath Ledger and Jack Nicholson and not include the first Joker performance from one Mr. Cesar Romero.
This picture is interesting as it also features a few notable guests. To Romero’s right is Adam West out of suit, but pimping it in a bathrobe and to West’s right is Mr. Jerry Lewis. Weird, right? But that stuff happens. I was also sent a picture of the Blues Brothers hanging out with Tommy Chong… these weird cross-overs happen from time to time and when I can find photographic evidence of them I’ll make sure to share.
Here’s the pic:

If you have a pic you think should be included email me. I’m looking for the iconic, the rare, the just plain cool behind the scenes shots to feature here.
Got one more like picture that’s as hot as curry. See you tomorrow for the next one!

Nice column
-
THAT would have been pretty amazing.
-
You wanna hear a story, nice lady? Oh, don't hurt the person!
-
It's always nice to see some love for the series that saved the Batman character from cancellation.
-
Connie Stevens?
-
expanded score to 1989 batman released at comic con with expanded KRULL.
-
Brings back some childhood memories.
-
Doubt it. But, FAVORITE NEW COLUMN EVER.
-
Spent way too long marvelling at that and saving it.
-
Can only mean Rocky Horror.
-
After a tease of Tommy Chong with the Blues Brothers, you gotta make that tomorrows pic of the day.
-
never stops making me laugh
-
That had something to do with him being a clown in the Holocaust, I think? I don't think it was either finished and/or released.<br><br>If Quint had behind the scenes pic from that movie, it would go apt with the clown theme.
-
I think this may be a time-traveling Jerry Lewis. Check out that rockin' Devo suit! This is apparently Jerry fresh from an Earth, Wind and Fire concert.
-
nothing says joker quite like white face paint over the mustache.
-
Drove insane by banging them while still in full make up?
-
But it could be Rocky Horror too. Tim Curry rules.
-
...The Day the Clown Cried. Jerry Lewis plays a circus clown who ends up in a Nazi death camp. Supposedly just inappropriate on multiple levels, though I've never seen it.
-
Now think of the insanity of Caesar having sex with another man in full Joker makeup. Mind blowing!
-
His over the top portrayal could easily be dropped into the dark and realistic Nolanverse and still work perfectly. Dare I say it, it probably would be more insane than Ledger's Joker, who I also loved.
-
the day the clown cried. was never made. despite jerry lewis's desire to make that movie.
-
FUCK!!! Imagine if you walked in on that?
-
Was made, Jerry Lewis has like the only know print of it. No one will ever see it. Well unless his family rapes his lively hood when he dies, which probably will happen and we will probably get to see it then.
-
Chap, that thought's just done my fucking head in.<p>Why did you have to put that image in my brain? Why?
-
If I was going to take a guess... I would say that's one of his outfits from "Way Way Out". It would fit nthe time period of this picture at least. The cat behind Adam West is his co-star from that movie.... the name escapes me. IMDB anyone???
-
That's Debbie Reynolds from the same movie... blond to the right.
-
...just stepped out of a space ship.
-
Always looks like the quintessential joker to me. Different time, era and style but he just has it. Total legend.

BTS Pic of the Day is the best feature on AICN in forever
by zillabeast
I'm absoultely loving this! Keep em coming, Quint!
-
of filming Visit To A Small Planet, but that was well before TV's Batman. Maybe he just dug the silver unitard look.
-
not Debbie Reynolds. Get your '60s era blonds straight dude.
-
Connie Stevens it is. I stand corrected.
-
I don't think that's Adam West. Too small. Face not round enough, good citizen<p> Note Romero's left hand, good people of Gotham. he's about to shock the monkey, if you know what I mean, and I think you do
-
isnt that Dick Shawn?
-
cuz he had a moustache! such a pity quint can't tell the difference
-
I agree it is Connie Stevens, plus maybe Dick Shawn and Marlo Thomas...
-
you can still see the 'stache
-
Jerry Lewis, connie Stevens and Dick Shawn were all in Way Way Out. Must have been filming nearby the Batman set
-
...the tv episodes aren't out yet? Don't tell me it's because WB can't find the negatives. I bet they'd look great on blu!
-
as Batman and Robin were climbing up the side of the building. Those cameos were goofy and great.
-
thats adam west alright..i confirmed it with REVENGE OF FETTs mom..she recgonizes that bathtobe anywhere..<P>and misses jerry lewis' fuck suit.
-
Romero played the Joker like a gangster--who happened to be dressed like a clown--he was more thuggish. Nicholson and Ledger did it more from the psychotic sociopath angle.
-
goddamned iphone
-
was Colonel Klink from Hogan's Heroes. Made absolutely no sense.
-
king tut rocked this show
-
I called it yesterday.
-
Lewis looks to be dressed in his outer space garb from VISITOR TO A SMALL PLANET (based on a play by Gore Vidal). No idea why since that film was released in 1960.
-
Yeesh.
-
Joker was the best. Although I think all three were pretty cool in different ways. But as far as other Batman villains go? <p> Frank Gorshin: The best Riddler by one thousand question marks. <p> Burgess Meredith: The best Penguin by an umbrella, a cigarette holder and a nose. <p> Julie Newmar: The best Catwoman by at least three cup sizes.
-
...they kept the mustache under the makeup for Romero's Joker.
-
...is from the upcoming Animated feature Batman: Under The Red hood. The fucker definately puts Nicolson's Joker to shame (you gotta see what happens during the scene in which the Joker asks for a glass of Water...OMMFG!)And it's a effin Cartoon!!
-
Why not a behind the scenes showing Mark Hamil voicing the Joker on the cartoon?
-
Sorry, but that picture of Ledger's joker from the other day was neither iconic nor particularly good for nostalgia. The others have all been gold though.
-
is the movie Jerry Lewis was filming with Connie Stevens. The movie and Batman were both shooting on the Fox lot, in 1966.
-
Even if they swapped for one episode.
-
Michelle Pfeiffer in her dressing room...Julie Newmar's costume fitting...maybe Marion Cotillard first thing in the morning.
-
because he heard there won't be any kids in it.. get it?
-
Quint...he's a good guy this Quint. If it's a picture of the rest of the cast trying to avoid him in full makeup I'll take a bullet for you Quint. I may have to find someone to shoot it first but I'll be right there...unless I sleep in or forget...Quint Run!!! It's not safe!
-
Jerry was playing an American Astronaut and Dick Shawn was playing a Russian Cosmonaut.
-
one of my fav episodes is when joker has that black box that allows him to mess with time. That show was brilliant.

the episode where Joker escapes prison during a baseball game is
by BEYONDTHUNDERDOME2GIRLS1CUPBILLCOSBY
the dark knight joker, the joker in the 60's batman could be. download it if you can, i'm sure Nolan and Ledger watched these 2 episodes many times before making the movie.
-
his mustache off and they just put white make up over it.
-
Tim Curry is the shit in that. One of King's best, and for the most part (until the climax) the TV version keeps pace.
-
Jerry was one of the many celebrities that appeared out of a window when B&R were scaling a building. Was Dean Martin with him or were they on the outs by then?
-
Loved Jack, but I'm just imagining Tim Curry bringing a little of Pennywise's menace to The Joker...THAT woulda been something, perhaps.
-
It totally rocks, it's a lot of fun. "Some days you just can't get rid of a bomb?" Total gold! I don't understand Talkbackers.
-
It wasn't that Romero couldn't be bothered to shave the mustache off. He was asked to, and as a proper 60's era latin lover type, told them to go fuck off with their suggestion.
-
You don't see that anymore
-
Wishes it was out on DVD. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Way...Way_Out
-
Should be Paul Reubens
-
returns joker. Basically the only batman is Paul Dini/Bruce Timm batman. And perhaps big daddy. Everything else live action has sucked in comparison. It's cool to think that we could make batman work in live action but it hasn't happened yet.
-
1- Mr. Romero was apparently bi-sexual - he had a long affair with Joan Crawford and was known as quite a latin-lover around Hollywood in the golden era, with both genders. 2- The 1960s BATMAN TV show is not on official dvd yet because of multitudiness rights issues: the original contracts with all the guests and window cameos were only for tv airings (this is why it still shows up in syndication) - to bring them to DVD would mean negotiations with ALL the estates of those people, a herculean task. They are however available on bootleg DVD on the web. Adam West got tired of waiting to do the audio commentaries so he made a dvd of his own memories of each episode in chronological order - it can be purchased on his website. 3- there are apparently a precious few private copies of THE DAY THE CLOWN DIED around - Harry Shearer of the SIMPSONS claims he was shown it, but won't say where and by whom (maybe Jerry himself?)
-
Bats and Joker is easy and now the actors, who have played them before perfectly, are old enough to play them at that DKR timeline: Batman - Michael Keaton. Joker - Mark Hammil. And my personal pick for Carrie/Robin - Emma Stone. Somebody make that movie, quick!
-
But I'd rather see behind the scenes shots from the Man Who Laughed...
-
Here is a link you all might find interesting (including a link to the full script): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Day_the_Clown_Cried
-
http://www.subcin.com/ - the guy who did this site knows everything there is to know, it's his research and work that put the film back in the media a few years ago.
-
Looks pretty sharp there just like Bruce Wayne.
-
imagine THAT
-
wasn't Roger Moore in full clown paint & clothes at one point in Octopussy?
-
Weird that there was never a dvd complete Batman 60's series out (legal).
-
Fox owns the series but WB owns the character and they can't come to an agreement. The Watchmen lawsuit settlement was rumored to have involved settling this too but it looks like that wasn't the case.
-
is because he was shooting/directing "Way Way Out" in another part of that studio! Notice Dick Shawn in the very background (he played the exuberant Russian astronaut in that film). I love that film, and make no apologies for being a fan of Jerry Lewis.
-
Connie Stevens as his wife on the right. She was hilarious in that film.
-
... that Heath Ledger was the first thin actor to play The Joker?
-
Seems he was eager to play roles that would be more then just him clowning up in light hearted comedies. He certainly did a great dramatic turn in Scorsese's underrated THE KING OF COMEDY. What if Lewis had played The joker but let him lose to play a more dark sinister version of his usual clown stitch?
-
She was hot back in the 60's. She starred on "Hawaiian Eye" a very LOOONNNGG time ago.
-
Yes, that is Connie Stevens circa the Jerry Lewis directed "Way Way Out". I agree, she was hot in those days.
-
where can i find this pic?
-
Looks like him.
-
oops- Yes Lewis was shooting the space comedy 'Way, Way Out' around that same time. That's the absolute genius Dick Shawn in the background.
-
Tim Curry was going to be the voice of The Joker in Batman:The Animated Series, but bowed out and Mark Hammil stepped in.

What was the deal with Romero being unwilling to shave it? It wasn't even that big, how long could it take to grow back?
