Finally!! Details And Release Dates For The ALIEN Movies On Blu-Ray!! An Amazing Set It Should Be...

Merrick here...
We've been pseudo-tracking the rumored and impending release of the ALIEN films on Blu-Ray for some time now. They are, easily, among the most desired/anticipated/coveted Blu-Ray titles for AICN readers - and may actually be the one set of films our readers want to possess more than any other (with the possible exception of the STAR WARS features). Until now, we've had few (if any) concrete details about what would be included in that set. However, THIS piece at IGN has finally decloaked the uber-grand collector's edition of the quadrilogy, which will be hitting on or around the end of October depending on where you live. U.S. release date? October 26. U.K. will get them one day earlier (October 25), and Australia comes in a touch later - the discs will arrive Down Under on November 3.

Sounds like many of the same features from the previous ALIEN QUADROLOGY set are returning, along with an intimidating passel of new material as well.
According to IGN, the Blu-Ray set...
have been "reinvigorated for an intense Blu-ray high-definition viewing experience." It will take advantage of Blu-ray technology by incorporating the MU-TH-UR Mode, an interactive feature that lets you access the special features on all six discs and provides an index of all available content. And what does that content include? About 60 hours of special features and over 12,000 images, including material from the legendary early '90s LaserDisc release, the "Legacy" release and, of course, the Quadrilogy. There will also be new, previously unreleased content, such as original screen tests of Sigourney Weaver prior to filming the original Alien, unseen deleted scenes, the previously unseen original cut of "Wreckage and Rage: The Making of Alien3" and more.
The actual retail price of the set is $139.99, although you can already find if for thirty or forty dollars cheaper at certain outlets (it's under $100 at Amazon, for example). There's are many, many more details regarding this set over at IGN (dual cuts of each film in the series, multiple commentaries, a tremendous amount of "Making Of..." material, deleted sequences we haven't seen before, etc.), so head on over to IGN for the complete rundown. Fox is going batshit crazy with some amped-up Blu-Ray releases in the coming months. I love it, I really do, but I'm trying to figure out how to afford all of this. I just won't eat...fuck it. I need to lose weight anyway. A Blu-Ray of Michael Mann's LAST OF THE MOHICANS, featuring a new cut by Mann, is also on the way (HERE). Love this film but, to date, I've been unable to find out how this new cut will differ from the edits we've seen in previous DVD and theatrical releases of the movie. Also in the pipeline: a 35th anniversary issuance of Jim Sharman's THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW (available HERE), and the debut of Baz Luhrmann's MOULIN ROUGE (HERE) on the format. The ALIEN ANTHOLOGY Blu-Rays, meanwhile, are are already up for preorder HERE. Exciting...
