Quint from Fantasia FF! Jay Baruchel says SORCERER'S APPRENTICE sequels to feature the Chernabog and Excalibur!

Published at:  Jul 08, 2010 11:52:44 PM CDT

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I've done two movies, 7 hours of travel and some overheated wandering about the fair city of Montreal on less than two hours of sleep, so forgive me if this piece is short and sweet.

I'm not gonna review Sorcerer's Apprentice or Ip Man 2 until I awake, but I wanted to make sure to get out two rather interesting tidbits that Jay Baruchel dropped at his Q&A for the opening night premiere of Sorcerer's Apprentice.

Naturally, any sequel they do is dependent on this one making a bunch of money, but Baruchel says right now they're wanting to incorporate another well known bit from the original Fantasia animated movie... this time the dreaded Chernabog, the Satanic mountain that has given children nightmares for 7 decades now. Yeah, this guy:

Baruchel also said the next film looks to divide itself between New York and England and will feature Excalibur, a prospect Baruchel is very much looking forward to because he said he worships the John Boorman movie.

Morgana and Merlin feature big time in the story of the first flick, which I found to be surprisingly fun. Well, not surprisingly. I've been looking forward to it since Nic Cage started kicking ass (or ass... kick. heh.) and taking names a few movies back.

Oh, and, naturally, the filmmakers and the studio want to do three Sorcerer's Apprentice films, leaving two more should this one make some money.

That's the news. Tomorrow I'll be back with full reviews of this one and Donnie Yen and Sammo Hung being Gods among men in Ip Man 2.

    I'm sorry, but....

    by smokingrobot

This movie looks relentlessly mediocre. Just like almost everything else (except Inception) being released this summer.

this will get lost between Predators and inception

    by redbull_werewolf

not saying it will be a bad movie cause it does look pretty cool, but predators will take this weekend, and inceptin will own next weekend, this might have a strong first day (perhaps 10-15 million) but by end of the month it will sink faster then Prince of pershiait will be lucky to break 80 mill domestically

    IP Man

    by wyrdy the gerbil

The awesome Sammo Hung fight scenes are just well fucking awesome ..IP Man masters test which ends with a fight between Sammo and Donny is old school epic, the only downside for me was the way to OTT performance by the guy playing the western boxer..it dumbs down the film a bit for me

"Inception" is going to be great, but....

    by holeman

I wouldn't count this movie out. The trailers are wildly appealing, Nic Cage is in full-on "Family Movie Mode" and NO ONE IS TAKING THEIR KIDS TO SEE "INCEPTION". I think it's going to do well. But, then again, I thought "The A-Team" would too, so what the fuck do I know?

    What I thought Holeman.

    by toilet_terror

    This could do okay. Maybe.

I hope Cage grows a big long wizard beard for the sequel. And spanks Jay Baruchel with a broom.

Hey, Cage acted his ass off in Bad Lieutenant

    by tall_boy66

Shit, if he makes solid movies like that on average every 5 years, let him make crap in between as long as the good flicks are actually good

    by ecto-1

yet, and they're talking about sequels?! Just what we need: Yanks pissing about with British mythology... I've watched the trailer for this and it looks awful. Just another shallow, cliche ridden, CGI soaked mess from the Bruckheimer assembly line, trying to pass itself off as an actual film. Hopefully it will bomb like Prince Of Persia. Man, THAT film was incredibly shit.

    I always liked Chernabog

    by terry1978

Always one of the cooler pieces of imagery that Disney created. If they can make him look decent via CG or whatever, knock yourself out.

    BAD ASS

    by d.vader

Live action Chernabog could kick some serious fucking ass onscreen. Holy shit, seeing a mountain come alive over a small European town would be crazy awesome.

My biggest disappointment about Fantasia 2000 was the omission of Night on bald mountain. That and Steve Martin.

There is a level where you have to defeat Chernabog. I would like to see some of KH being put into these movies...

    This movie looks terrible

    by adelai niska

Basically Disney wanted a corporately-owned Harry Potter, so they took a shit on Mickey Mouse and then jammed it into a National Treasure production.

    by ttringle

There is a scene where the apprentice is dealing with the mops just like in Fantasia sort of how that one scene from the Pirates of the Carribean ride inspired disney to make an entire movie out of it and while some may not like it, I think they did alright with those 3 movies. Could have been a lot worse than some people make them out to be.
