Behind the Scenes Pic of the Day! This one’ll shake the pillars of heaven!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes pic!
This one was hand delivered by ol’ Jack Burton and the Porkchop Express and just screams badass to me.
I mean, really… As a John Carpenter fan, how epic is this picture?

You can click on it for a bigger version. Computer backgrounds just got quicker reflexes.
If you have any pic you think should be included in this series email me. I’m looking for the iconic, the rare, the just plain cool behind the scenes shots.
Tomorrow brings a fishy pic. See ya’ then!

Keep them coming!
-
Everybody relax, I'm here.
-
Yes sir, the cheque is in the mail.
-
By all rights it should be a terrible, terrible movie but it just works. Not even Kim Cattrall managing to be both wooden and hammy (never thought that was possible) at the same time can derail it's magnificence.
-
But I guess that's OK.
-
Simple yet awesome. Pure genius. Keep em coming.
-
I own it on DVD and I don't understand why it doesn't quite work as a film, or what the one little thing is that's missing.<p> It just seems like it should be funnier - not more comedy - but the 'funny' that is there just seems a little bit flat, and I really don't know why.<p> It is, however, a brilliantly atmospheric film, and I absolutely fucking LOVE how all that ancient legend and mythology exists just a hair's breadth below the surface of the modern world depicted in the film.
-
And what a great pic!! Wish they'd made a sequel to this, one of THE great fantasy flicks of the 80s - not to mention JC cooking on all cylinders! As the gentleman before me just said, so atmospheric, too. Hope KR & JC work together one more time. Probably won't, but I can dream!
-
if only for the fact the 'hero' character manages to be completely ineffective for 80% of the movie. So quotable too. Would you stop rubbing your body up against mine, because I can't concentrate when you do that....
-
I agree with Dude_gimme_tabs, by all rights it should be a awful watching now but somehow it still works. Whenever it comes on the telly while I'm surfing the channels, it always hooks me in and butt'll stick to the sofa until the show finishes. One of the first Hollywood films to have Hong Kong quality fight choreograph
-
being an Expendable!!! Fuck!
-
In The Mouth Of Madness. Do you read Sutter Kane?
-
I fucking love Big Trouble in Little China. I remember it came out on VHS rental at exactly the same time as Aliens, I still don't know which film I love more.
-
The original Enigma Records release, inside gatefold... not exactly that rare, guys. <P> Speaking of rare, have you guys heard the private album Carpenter recorded just before BTILC called Waiting Out The 80s? It's with the Coupe De Villes (Nick Castle, Carpenter and Tommy Lee Wallace) who of course sang the title track to BTILC. More of the same, if you can track it down. <P> A LOT of Elvis impressions can be found on said record. <P> Oh - and John? For the love of everything, DO THE SCORE TO YOUR NEW FILM. IT'S LIKE 50% OF THE DRAWCARD FOR THE FANS. <P> Thank you very much.
-
Deleted scenes maybe.
-
I needs me some of Egg's magic potion :)
-
I swear he's the only one who can get away with one even today.

Buckaroo Banzai came out about three years before Big Trouble In Little China. Because Buckaroo's director W. D. Richter was the one who did a rewrite on Big Trouble's script, many have erroneously assumed that Big Trouble is a reworked script for the never materialized sequel Buckaroo Banzai Vs The World Crime League. Nothing could be further from the truth. The original Big Trouble script, which I believe was knocking around the studio at the time Buckaroo Banzai was just heading to theaters, was set in turn of the century San Fransisco. A well known script writer and script doctor, Richter was brought in to update the story to modern times.

...Steampunk NEVER works in ANY medium, haven't Wild Wild West (the movie and the show, lets face it, that show is almost unwatchable), Jonah Hex, The Adventures of Briscoe County Jr. The Difference Engine, Ruse, as well as all those annoying, fat SteamGoth kids proved that?
-
well the time travel train at the end of BTTF 3 was pretty sweet. :P
-
Also, part of me loves that Big Trouble In Little China never had a sequel. It just stands on its own as this weird American kung-fu fantasy.
-
OH! A six demon bag!

great. whats that?

All that kind of thing!

This is a great, great movie. One of the underrated classics of the 80's - too bad it also marked the beginning of Carpenter losing his mojo. So damned depressing, I want the old Carpenter back.
-
Curt is great at comedy.
-
This is one of those movies that I show to my friends who have never seen it, and they all say they like it except for Kim Cattrall's performance. I must admit I myself look foward to the scene where Lo Pan puts her in a trance, cause that's the part of the movie where she finally shuts up.
-
in makeup and her chinese garb and green eyes..<P>and the ruby red lipstick..
-
What was wrong with Ruse? And I read The Difference Engine and yes, it sucked.
-
I'd kill to see them team up again. I might give ol' John a little of his mojo back.
-
But I'd only do her in the ass because her pussy must be saggy now.
-
LIFE Magazine had a really cool double page spread on this movie. It would be cool if somebody could find that again. It showed the whole cast posing in the room with the giant statue. Great photo.
-
these two both need another team up
-
That Alien pic from yesterday was sweet too. Gods, how I wish they weren't making this totally pointless and inane Alien prequel... sigh...
-
Lost or AICN but after the series finale, this site became really terrible...but yay, articles about pictures...

Yoda, you seek Yoda! Why just one pic a day, why not Why not MANY TINE TANIES! All of these will be super rare, aka hard to find in any DVD/Bluray promo/press pic galley?

is probably great. I know I'd have a few words to say to her pussy if I met it. Now lissen here you fucking pussy! That would be the first thing, followed by- I've had just about enough of your lips flapping for one evening!
-
days, and Carpenter is too busy smoking salvia and playing God Of War 3. A new film with those two would be, if anything, fun.
-
Kurt and John make a great double act.

Love BTILC... I'm proud to say I have sold my 19 year old brother on the greatness of practical FX due in large part to Mr Carpenter too.
-
I honestly Thought this column couldn't get any fucking cooler but you're 2 for 2 with two of my favorite movie's of all time. Now alll I need is Some Plissken, MacReady, and Antonio Bay.
-
can't wait to see what you pull out of the magic hat

Russell will always be a leading man.

I'd show up at someones house with this tape, a cooler full of beer and a couple hrs later i'd have a couple raving lunatics on my hands<p> They'd be all *omg! how come no one knows about this? Where the hell did this come from? Rewind that and play it again! G'me another beer!*<p> All the way up to the mid 90's I could find people who'd never seen it

This movie rules on so many levels.

I found that on the net, printed it out and sent it to him, and he signed it for me. Way cool.

"The truth?" <P> "I can take it." <P> "We don't know." <P>THUNDER!

-
Keep it up Quint, please!
-
Along with Back to the Future and Temple of Doom. <P>Throw in Ghostbusters and Evil Dead 2 and you've got my top 5.
-
Except maybe the videogame medium since final fantasy 6 was awesome!
-
Now that you mention it, steampunk DOES lend itself to the gaming medium quite well.
-
You know what I say when it's Miller Time?
-
really? it's pretty profitable in the right circles. I make rayguns, blasters and lamps out of thrift store junk and repurposed metals and wood. Folks buy them up. I've extended the pieces into buck rogers and atomic style too. Steampunk isn't dead, hollywood just doesn't seem to get it right. -although the new Sherlock Holmes was pretty steampunky and i think it did pretty well AND was pretty good.
-
Ain't it awesome that we got a thread like this??
-
I've never seen that pic before, and I like it.
-
an ancient army of the dead, the Spirit City and monkey sacrifices.

You were not brought upon this Earth to "get it"!!

...and I don't wanna believe it. But it's real."
-
Bruce Campbell vs Lo Pan?? DO THAT SHIT!!<P> Set in San Fransisco, late 19th Century, where the dashing but dumb Brisco County Jr and his friends encounter the immortal Lo Pan and the Three Storms! An unofficial prequel of sorts to BTILC!!<P> Ah fuck it, I can dream...
-
That was a direct continuation of the dialogue in the post above, but you ruined it. Thanks a lot, man. <P> Just kidding. Anyone who can quote 'BTiLC' is cool with me.

...No such thing as order on the AICN Talkbacks. It's all just chaos and anarchy. A man'd have to be some kind of idiot to think we're all alone in this universe...<P> Nice quote, though. Just before Billy Warlock's dad Dick Warlock (Kurt's stunt double) does that amazing stunt with the wheelchair and the well...

The Chaos Engine, NES version. Well, I dug it...

I didn't play any FF past #3, I was just generally agreeing with ya. But I'll take your word for it.
-
I second Brisco vs. Lo Pan. I taped every ep of that show as it aired-great stuff!
